Gifts for Building the Temple
29 Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced.(A) The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. 2 With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold(B) for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise,[a](C) stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities.(D) 3 Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided(E) for this holy temple: 4 three thousand talents[b] of gold (gold of Ophir)(F) and seven thousand talents[c] of refined silver,(G) for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5 for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?”
6 Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials(H) in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.(I) 7 They(J) gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents[d] and ten thousand darics[e] of gold, ten thousand talents[f] of silver, eighteen thousand talents[g] of bronze and a hundred thousand talents[h] of iron. 8 Anyone who had precious stones(K) gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.(L) 9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly(M) to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.
David’s Prayer
10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
“Praise be to you, Lord,
the God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power(N)
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.(O)
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.(P)
12 Wealth and honor(Q) come from you;
you are the ruler(R) of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?(S) Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.(T) 15 We are foreigners and strangers(U) in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow,(V) without hope. 16 Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart(W) and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.(X) 18 Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion(Y) to keep your commands, statutes and decrees(Z) and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”(AA)
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the Lord your God.” So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.
Solomon Acknowledged as King(AB)
21 The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him:(AC) a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.(AD) 22 They ate and drank with great joy(AE) in the presence of the Lord that day.
Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok(AF) to be priest. 23 So Solomon sat(AG) on the throne(AH) of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons,(AI) pledged their submission to King Solomon.
25 The Lord highly exalted(AJ) Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor(AK) such as no king over Israel ever had before.(AL)
The Death of David(AM)
26 David son of Jesse was king(AN) over all Israel.(AO) 27 He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron(AP) and thirty-three in Jerusalem.(AQ) 28 He died(AR) at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.(AS)
29 As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer,(AT) the records of Nathan(AU) the prophet and the records of Gad(AV) the seer, 30 together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.

29 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.
2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
3 Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house.
4 Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal:
5 The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?
6 Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king's work, offered willingly,
7 And gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand drams, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
10 Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
11 Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
16 O Lord our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.
18 O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
20 And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the Lord your God. And all the congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the Lord, and the king.
21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings unto the Lord, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:
22 And did eat and drink before the Lord on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the Lord to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
25 And the Lord magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26 Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
28 And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.
29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,
30 With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.

Ofrendas para construir el templo
29 El rey David le dijo a todo el pueblo de Israel:
«Mi hijo Salomón, el único al que Dios ha elegido, es todavía muy joven e inexperto, y el trabajo que le espera es grande, porque el templo no es para los hombres sino para el SEÑOR Dios. 2 Yo me he esforzado por dejar listo todo lo necesario para el templo de mi Dios. Conseguí ya el material apropiado para cada objeto; tengo el oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro y la madera para usar según corresponda. También están listas las piedras de ónice para las instalaciones, las baldosas de colores, toda clase de piedras preciosas y gran cantidad de mármol. 3 Además de todo lo que ya tengo listo para el templo, voy a entregar mi tesoro personal de oro y plata. Estoy dispuesto a entregarlo todo para el templo de mi Dios. 4 Tengo 100 000 kilos[a] de oro de Ofir y doscientas sesenta toneladas de plata refinada para cubrir las paredes de cada salón. 5 Entrego oro para los objetos de oro y plata para los objetos de plata. Los dejo en manos de expertos artesanos. Ahora, ¿quién de ustedes está dispuesto hoy a dedicarse al SEÑOR?»
6 Entonces los jefes de familia, los jefes de las tribus de Israel, los jefes de 1000 y de 100 soldados, y los funcionarios administrativos del rey hicieron voluntariamente sus donaciones. 7 Lo que ofrendaron al servicio de la casa de Dios fueron 165 000 kilos y 10 000 monedas[b] de oro, 330 000 kilos de plata, y como 600 000 kilos de bronce y 3 300 000 kilos de hierro. 8 Todos los que tenían piedras preciosas las donaron para la tesorería del templo del SEÑOR que estaba a cargo de Jehiel el guersonita. 9 Toda la gente estaba contenta de tanta generosidad porque habían dado de todo corazón y voluntariamente al SEÑOR. El rey David también estaba muy contento.
Oración de alabanza de David
10 Luego David hizo esta oración de alabanza al SEÑOR frente a todo su pueblo:
«¡Bendito seas por siempre, SEÑOR,
Dios de Israel y padre nuestro!
11 SEÑOR, sólo a ti te corresponden
la grandeza y el poder, la gloria,
el esplendor y el honor.
Porque a ti te pertenece todo lo que existe
en el cielo y en la tierra.
Tú, SEÑOR, eres el único soberano
y tuyo es el reino.
12 La riqueza y el honor vienen de ti;
tú lo gobiernas todo.
Tienes en tus manos el poder y la fuerza.
También está en tus manos el poder de decidir a quién hacer grande y poderoso.
13 Dios nuestro, ahora te damos gracias
y alabamos tu santo nombre.
14 »¿Quién soy yo o quién es mi pueblo para hacerte estas ofrendas? En realidad todo viene de ti y simplemente te estamos dando de lo que hemos recibido de ti. 15 Porque ante ti no somos más que inmigrantes; viajeros temporales igual que lo fueron nuestros antepasados. Nuestros días en la tierra sólo son sombra sin esperanza. 16 SEÑOR, Dios nuestro, hemos reunido todas estas riquezas para construirte un templo para honrar tu nombre. Todo eso viene de ti y a ti te pertenece. 17 Yo sé, Dios mío, que tú examinas el corazón de la gente y te agrada la persona íntegra y correcta. Por eso, te entrego todo esto, con generosidad y de todo corazón. También he visto cómo toda esta gente aquí presente se siente dichosa de ofrecerte todo lo que tiene. 18 SEÑOR, Dios de nuestros antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, te ruego que conserves siempre esta buena voluntad en el corazón de tu pueblo; guía su corazón hacia ti. 19 Dale un corazón íntegro a mi hijo Salomón para que pueda seguir cumpliendo y poniendo en práctica tus mandamientos, estatutos y decretos. Haz que él pueda construir el templo para el que he hecho todos los preparativos».
20 Luego David les dijo a todos: «Alaben al SEÑOR su Dios». Entonces todos alabaron al SEÑOR, Dios de sus antepasados, y se inclinaron ante el SEÑOR y ante el rey.
Coronación de Salomón
21 Al día siguiente sacrificaron animales al SEÑOR y ofrecieron al SEÑOR sacrificios que deben quemarse completamente. Se sacrificaron 1000 toros, 1000 carneros y 1000 corderos. Se hicieron ofrendas de vino y abundantes sacrificios por todo Israel. 22 Ese día todos bebieron y comieron felices en honor al SEÑOR, por segunda vez proclamaron como rey[c] a Salomón hijo de David, lo consagraron rey ante el SEÑOR y nombraron sacerdote a Sadoc. 23 Entonces Salomón se sentó en el trono del SEÑOR como rey, en reemplazo de su papá David, y tuvo mucho éxito. Todo Israel lo obedeció. 24 Todos los jefes, guerreros y los demás hijos del rey David prometieron ser leales al rey Salomón. 25 El SEÑOR hizo engrandecer enormemente a Salomón ante todo Israel y le otorgó el esplendor y la gloria que ningún otro rey tuvo antes que él en Israel.
Muerte de David
(1 R 2:10-12)
26 David hijo de Isaí fue rey de todo Israel 27 durante 40 años. Gobernó siete años en Hebrón, y 33 años en Jerusalén. 28 David murió a una avanzada edad lleno de riqueza, honor y gloria. Su hijo Salomón reinó en su lugar.
29 Todos los hechos que ocurrieron durante el reinado de David, desde el primero hasta el último, están registrados en las crónicas del vidente Samuel, del profeta Natán y del vidente Gad. 30 Allí hay una descripción completa del reinado de David, de su gran poder, y de todos los sucesos que les afectaron a él, a Israel y a los países vecinos.
