¹⁷ Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were the chief officials in the service of the king.^(A)

¹⁸ Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over^[a] the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were priests.^(A)

¹⁸ All his officials passed by him, and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the six hundred Gittites who had followed him from Gath passed on before the king.^(A)

²⁸ “but their duty shall be to assist the descendants of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God;

³⁴ Then Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up and struck him down and killed him, and he was buried at his own house near the wilderness. ³⁵ The king put Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the army in his place, and the king put the priest Zadok in the place of Abiathar.^(A)

⁴⁴ the king has sent with him the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they had him ride on the king’s mule;

³⁸ So the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule and led him to Gihon.^(A)

¹⁹ He was the most renowned of the Thirty^[a] and became their commander, but he did not attain to the Three.

²⁰ Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant warrior^[b] from Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds; he struck down two sons of Ariel^[c] of Moab. He also went down and killed a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen.^{(A) 21} And he killed an Egyptian, a handsome man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand, but Benaiah went against him with a staff, snatched the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear. ²² Such were the things Benaiah son of Jehoiada did and won a name beside the three warriors. ²³ He was renowned among the Thirty, but he did not attain to the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.^(B)

²³ Now Joab was in command of all the army of Israel;^[a] Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in command of the Cherethites and the Pelethites;^(A)
