Божият дом и Божият народ
2 (A)И така, като отхвърлите всяка злоба, всяко лукавство, лицемерие, завист и всяко одумване,
2 (B)пожелавайте като новородени младенци чистото духовно мляко, за да пораснете чрез него към спасение,
3 (C)ако сте опитали, „че Господ е благ“;
4 (D)при Когото, като идвате като при жив камък, отхвърлен от човеците, но от Бога избран и скъпоценен,
5 (E)и вие като живи камъни се съграждате в духовен дом, за да станете свято свещенство, да принасяте духовни жертви, благоприятни на Бога чрез Исус Христос.
6 (F)Защото е писано в Писанието:
„Ето, полагам в Сион крайъгълен камък, избран, скъпоценен;
и който вярва в Него, няма да се посрами.“
7 (G)И така, за вас, които вярвате, Той е скъпоценност, а на тези, които не вярват –
„Камъкът, който отхвърлиха зидарите,
Той стана глава на ъгъла,“
8 (H)и „Камъкът, о който да се спъват, и канара, в която да се съблазняват;“ защото се спъват о словото и са непокорни, за което бяха и определени.
9 (I)Вие обаче сте избран род, царско свещенство, свят народ, народ, който Бог придоби, за да възвестява превъзходствата на Този, Който ви призова от тъмнината в Своята чудесна светлина;
10 (J)вие, които някога не бяхте народ, а сега сте Божий народ, не бяхте придобили милост, а сега сте придобили.
Задълженията към властниците
11 (K)Възлюбени, умолявам ви, като пришълци и чужденци на света, да се въздържате от плътски страсти, които воюват против душата;
12 (L)да живеете благоприлично между езичниците, така че заради това, за което ви одумват като злотворци, да прославят Бога във времето, когато ще ги посети, понеже виждат добрите ви дела.
13 (M)Покорявайте се заради Господа на всяка човешка власт, било на царя като върховен владетел,
14 било на управителите като пратеници от него, за да наказват злотворците и за похвала на добротворците.
15 (N)Защото това е Божията воля, като правите добро, да затваряте устата на невежите и глупави човеци;
16 (O)като свободни, обаче, не употребяващи свободата за покривало на злото, но като Божии слуги.
17 (P)Почитайте всички; обичайте братството; от Бога се бойте, царя почитайте.
Примерът на Христовото страдание
18 (Q)Слуги, покорявайте се на господарите си с пълен страх, не само на добрите и кротките, но и на опърничавите;
19 (R)защото това е благоугодно, ако някой от съзнанието за Бога претърпява скръб, като страда несправедливо.
20 (S)Защото каква похвала, ако понасяте търпеливо, когато ви бият за престъпленията ви? Но когато вършите добро и страдате, ако понасяте търпеливо, това е угодно пред Бога.
21 (T)Защото и за това сте призовани; понеже и Христос пострада за вас и ви остави пример да вървите по Неговите стъпки;
22 (U)Който грях не е сторил, нито се е намерило лукавство в устата Му;
23 (V)Който, когато Го хулеха, с хула не отвръщаше; когато страдаше, не заплашваше; а предаваше делото Си на Този, Който съди справедливо;
24 (W)Който сам понесе в тялото Си нашите грехове на дървото, така че като сме умрели за греховете, да живеем за правдата; с Чиито рани вие оздравяхте.
25 (X)Защото като овце блуждаехте, но сега се върнахте при Пастира и Епископа на душите ви.

2 Por lo tanto, abandonando toda maldad y todo engaño, hipocresía, envidias y toda calumnia, 2 deseen con ansias la leche espiritual pura, como niños recién nacidos. Así, por medio de ella, crecerán en su salvación, 3 ahora que han probado lo bueno que es el Señor.
La piedra viva y su pueblo escogido
4 Cristo es la piedra viva, desechada por los seres humanos, pero escogida y preciosa ante Dios. Al acercarse a él, 5 también ustedes son como piedras vivas, con las cuales se está edificando una casa espiritual. De este modo llegan a ser un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales que Dios acepta por medio de Jesucristo. 6 Así dice la Escritura:
«Miren, yo pongo en Sión
una piedra angular escogida y preciosa,
y el que confíe en ella
no será jamás defraudado».[a]
7 Para ustedes los creyentes, esta piedra es preciosa; pero para los incrédulos,
«la piedra que desecharon los constructores
ha llegado a ser la piedra angular»,[b]
8 y también:
«una piedra de tropiezo
y una roca que hace caer».[c]
Tropiezan al desobedecer la palabra, para lo cual estaban destinados.
9 Pero ustedes son descendencia escogida, sacerdocio regio, nación santa, pueblo que pertenece a Dios, para que proclamen las obras maravillosas de aquel que los llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable. 10 Ustedes antes ni siquiera eran pueblo, pero ahora son pueblo de Dios; antes no habían recibido misericordia, pero ahora ya la han recibido.
11 Queridos hermanos, les ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos en este mundo que se aparten de los deseos pecaminosos[d] que combaten contra el alma. 12 Mantengan entre los incrédulos[e] una conducta tan ejemplar que, aunque los acusen de hacer el mal, ellos observen las buenas obras de ustedes y glorifiquen a Dios en el día de su visitación.[f]
Sumisión a los gobernantes y a los superiores
13 Sométanse por causa del Señor a toda autoridad humana, ya sea al rey como suprema autoridad 14 o a los gobernadores que él envía para castigar a los que hacen el mal y reconocer a los que hacen el bien. 15 Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios: que, practicando el bien, hagan callar la ignorancia de los insensatos. 16 Eso es actuar como personas libres que no se valen de su libertad para encubrir su maldad, sino que viven como siervos de Dios. 17 Den a todos el debido respeto: amen a los hermanos, teman a Dios, respeten al rey.
18 Siervos, sométanse con todo respeto a sus amos, no solo a los buenos y comprensivos, sino también a los insoportables. 19 Porque es digno de elogio que, por causa de la conciencia ante Dios, se soporten las aflicciones, aun sufriendo injustamente. 20 Pero ¿cómo pueden ustedes atribuirse mérito alguno si soportan que los maltraten por persistir en hacer el mal? En cambio, si sufren por hacer el bien, eso merece elogio delante de Dios. 21 Para esto fueron llamados, porque Cristo sufrió por ustedes y les ha dado ejemplo para que sigan sus pasos.
22 «Él no cometió ningún pecado
ni hubo engaño en su boca».[g]
23 Cuando proferían insultos contra él, no replicaba con insultos; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que confiaba en aquel que juzga con justicia. 24 Él mismo, en su cuerpo, llevó al madero nuestros pecados, para que muramos al pecado y vivamos para la justicia. Por sus heridas ustedes han sido sanados. 25 Antes eran ustedes como ovejas descarriadas,[h] pero ahora han vuelto al Pastor que cuida[i] de sus vidas.

2 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
