2 Corinthians 11:23-28
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
23 Are they ministers of Christ? I am talking like a madman—I am a better one: with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless floggings, and often near death.(A) 24 Five times I have received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.(B) 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I received a stoning. Three times I was shipwrecked; for a night and a day I was adrift at sea;(C) 26 on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from bandits, danger from my own people, danger from gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers and sisters;(D) 27 in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, hungry and thirsty, often without food,[a] cold and naked.(E) 28 And, besides other things, I am under daily pressure because of my anxiety for all the churches.

23 Are they servants of Christ?(A) (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder,(B) been in prison more frequently,(C) been flogged more severely,(D) and been exposed to death again and again.(E) 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes(F) minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods,(G) once I was pelted with stones,(H) three times I was shipwrecked,(I) I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews,(J) in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city,(K) in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.(L) 27 I have labored and toiled(M) and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food;(N) I have been cold and naked. 28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.(O)

9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, as though sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to humans.(A) 10 We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are sensible people in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored.(B) 11 To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are naked and beaten and homeless,(C) 12 and we grow weary from the work of our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;(D) 13 when slandered, we speak kindly. We have become like the rubbish of the world, the dregs of all things, to this very day.

9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die(A) in the arena. We have been made a spectacle(B) to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings. 10 We are fools for Christ,(C) but you are so wise in Christ!(D) We are weak, but you are strong!(E) You are honored, we are dishonored! 11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.(F) 12 We work hard with our own hands.(G) When we are cursed, we bless;(H) when we are persecuted,(I) we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage(J) of the world—right up to this moment.

4 Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.(A) 5 But the Jews became jealous, and with the help of some ruffians in the marketplaces they formed a mob and set the city in an uproar. While they were searching for Paul and Silas to bring them out to the assembly, they attacked Jason’s house.(B) 6 When they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some brothers and sisters before the city authorities, shouting, “These people who have been turning the world upside down have come here also,(C) 7 and Jason has entertained them as guests. They are all acting contrary to the decrees of the emperor, saying that there is another king named Jesus.”(D) 8 The people and the city officials were disturbed when they heard this, 9 and after they had taken bail from Jason and the others, they let them go.

They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus.”(H) 8 When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. 9 Then they made Jason(I) and the others post bond and let them go.
