David Strikes Down the Amalekites

30 Then it happened when David and his men came to ^(A)Ziklag on the third day, that ^(B)the Amalekites had made a raid on the ^[a]Negev and on ^(C)Ziklag and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire;

¹⁶ So he brought him down, and behold, they were ^[a]spread over all the land, ^(A)eating and drinking and ^[b]celebrating because of ^(B)all the great spoil that they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.

^18 (A)and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada ^[a]was over the ^(B)Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were ^[b](C)priests.

Solomon Anointed King

³⁸ So ^(A)Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, ^(B)the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and brought him to ^(C)Gihon.

⁴⁴ The king has also sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king’s mule.

¹⁶ therefore thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I will ^(A)stretch out My hand against the Philistines and cut off the ^(B)Cherethites and cause the remnant of the seacoast to perish.
