13 Jesse's three oldest sons had joined Saul's army to fight the war. They were Eliab, Jesse's oldest son, his second son, Abinadab, and his third son, Shammah. 14 David was Jesse's youngest son. While Jesse's three oldest sons were in Saul's army, 15 David would sometimes leave Saul and go back home to Bethlehem. He did that to take care of his father's sheep.

13 Jesse’s three oldest sons had followed Saul to the war: The firstborn was Eliab;(A) the second, Abinadab;(B) and the third, Shammah.(C) 14 David was the youngest. The three oldest followed Saul, 15 but David went back and forth from Saul to tend(D) his father’s sheep(E) at Bethlehem.
