In his old age, his wives tempted him to follow other gods. He was no longer committed to the Lord his God as his father David had been. Solomon followed Astarte (the goddess of the Sidonians) and Milcom (the disgusting idol of the Ammonites). So Solomon did what the Lord considered evil. He did not wholeheartedly follow the Lord as his father David had done.

As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods,(A) and his heart was not fully devoted(B) to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. He followed Ashtoreth(C) the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek(D) the detestable god of the Ammonites. So Solomon did evil(E) in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done.
