2 from the nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, and they must not intermarry with you, because they will turn your heart away to follow their gods.”(A) To these women Solomon was deeply attached[a] in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives who were princesses and three hundred who were concubines,(B) and they turned his heart away.(C)
4 When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away to follow other gods. He was not wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord his God, as his father David had been.(D)

2 They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry(A) with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines,(B) and his wives led him astray.(C) 4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods,(D) and his heart was not fully devoted(E) to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
