Redemption Through the Blood of Christ

The Blood of Christ

11 But when Christ came as high priest(A) of the good things that are now already here,[a](B) he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle(C) that is not made with human hands,(D) that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;(E) but he entered the Most Holy Place(F) once for all(G) by his own blood,(H) thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption.

  2. Hebrews 9:12 Or blood, having obtained

They serve (A)a copy and (B)shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, (C)“See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.” But as it is, Christ[a] has obtained a ministry that is (D)as much more excellent than the old as (E)the covenant (F)he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. (G)For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

For he finds fault with them when he says:[b]

(H)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10 (I)For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and (J)write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall (K)all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
(L)and I will remember their sins no more.”

13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And (M)what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

  1. Hebrews 8:6 Greek he
  2. Hebrews 8:8 Some manuscripts For finding fault with it he says to them

They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy(A) and shadow(B) of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned(C) when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”[a](D) But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant(E) of which he is mediator(F) is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.(G) But God found fault with the people and said[b]:

“The days are coming, declares the Lord,
    when I will make a new covenant(H)
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant
    I made with their ancestors(I)
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
10 This is the covenant(J) I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.(K)
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.(L)
11 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,(M)
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.(N)[c](O)

13 By calling this covenant “new,”(P) he has made the first one obsolete;(Q) and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
