⁸ the^[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

⁶ This is the one who came by water and blood^(A)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.^{(B) 7} For there are three^(C) that testify:

²⁶ “When the Advocate^(A) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father^(B)—the Spirit of truth^(C) who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.^(D)

²¹ and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you^(A) also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience^(B) toward God.^[a] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,^(C)

² Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.^{(A) 3} They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. ⁴ All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit^(B) and began to speak in other tongues^[a](C) as the Spirit enabled them.
