There Is No Other Gospel

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are confusing you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.(A) But even if we or an angel[a] from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that one be accursed!(B) As we have said before, so now I repeat, if anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that one be accursed!

10 Am I now seeking human approval or God’s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.(C)

Paul’s Vindication of His Apostleship

11 For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin,(D) 12 for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

No Other Gospel

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called(A) you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel(B) which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion(C) and are trying to pervert(D) the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you,(E) let them be under God’s curse!(F) As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted,(G) let them be under God’s curse!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people?(H) If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Paul Called by God

11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters,(I) that the gospel I preached(J) is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man,(K) nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation(L) from Jesus Christ.(M)

  1. 1 Peter 5:12 Greek Silvanus, a variant of Silas

For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures(A) and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures(B) and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.(C) Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.[a] Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.(D) Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.(E) For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.(F) 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I but the grace of God that is with me.(G) 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we proclaim and so you believed.

For what I received(A) I passed on to you(B) as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins(C) according to the Scriptures,(D) that he was buried,(E) that he was raised(F) on the third day(G) according to the Scriptures,(H) and that he appeared to Cephas,[b](I) and then to the Twelve.(J) After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.(K) Then he appeared to James,(L) then to all the apostles,(M) and last of all he appeared to me also,(N) as to one abnormally born.

For I am the least of the apostles(O) and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted(P) the church of God.(Q) 10 But by the grace(R) of God I am what I am, and his grace to me(S) was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them(T)—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.(U) 11 Whether, then, it is I or they,(V) this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: when they hear the word, they immediately receive it with joy. 17 But they have no root and endure only for a while; then, when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.[a] 18 And others are those sown among the thorns: these are the ones who hear the word, 19 but the cares of the age and the lure of wealth and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it yields nothing. 20 And these are the ones sown on the good soil: they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”
