ד הואיל והמשיח סבל והתענה למענכם, היו מוכנים מבחינה נפשית לסבול כמוהו. כי אדם שסובל פיזית עקב התנגדותו לחטא, שוב אינו חוטא בכוונה תחילה; 2 אדם כזה לא יבלה את שארית חייו עלי-אדמות בסיפוק תאוותיו ותשוקותיו, כי אם בעשיית רצון אלוהים! 3 לפני שהאמנתם במשיח היה לכם מספיק זמן להתנהג כמו הגויים: לזנות, לנאוף, להשתכר, להתהולל, לעבוד את האלילים ולעשות מעשי תועבה אחרים.
4 אכן, חבריכם לשעבר מתפלאים על כך ששוב אינכם משתתפים במעשי השחיתות שלהם, והם כועסים עליכם ולועגים לכם. 5 אולם זכרו כי הם יתנו את הדין על מעשיהם, לפני האלוהים השופט את החיים ואת המתים, וייענשו בהתאם למעלליהם. 6 משום כך הושמעה הבשורה גם למתים, כדי שעל אף פסק-דין המוות שקיבלו כדרך בני-האדם בבשר, יחיו ברוח כדרך האלוהים.
7 מכיוון שקץ העולם קרב, רסנו את עצמכם והתפללו בצלילות הדעת. 8 מעל הכול, המשיכו לאהוב איש את רעהו אהבה כנה ועמוקה, כי האהבה סולחת על מגרעות ופשעים רבים. 9 הכניסו אורחים לביתכם בשמחה ובלי תלונות.
10 לכל אחד מכם העניק אלוהים כישרונות מסוימים; נצלו כישרונות אלה ועזרו לזולת.
11 אם העניק לך אלוהים את כישרון ההטפה וההוראה, הטף ולמד כאילו אלוהים עצמו מדבר בפיך. אם ביקש ממך אלוהים לעזור לזולתך, עשה את המוטל עליך ברצון ובכל הכוח והעוז שמעניק לך אלוהים. בכל מעשיך כבד ופאר את אלוהים דרך ישוע המשיח, אשר לו הכבוד והגבורה לעולם ועד. – אמן.
12 ידידים יקרים, כשתבואנה עליכם צרות כדי לבחון את אמונתכם, אל תתפלאו ואל תשתוממו כאילו היה זה דבר מוזר ויוצא-דופן. 13 שמחו על צרות אלה, כי אתם משתתפים למעשה בסבל המשיח, ויום אחד כשיגלה את עצמו ברוב הדרו, תימלאו שמחה נפלאה.
14 שמחו כשמקללים ומעליבים אתכם על-שום אמונתכם במשיח, כי פירוש הדבר שרוח אלוהים נחה עליכם בהדר רב. 15 אולם אינני רוצה לשמוע על סבל שנגרם לכם על-שום שרצחתם, גנבתם, עשיתם רע או התערבתם בענייניהם של אחרים. 16 אין זאת בושה לסבול בגלל היותכם משיחיים; להיפך, הודו לאלוהים על הזכות להשתייך למשפחת המשיח ועל הזכות לשאת את שמו.
17 הגיע מועד משפטו של אלוהים, ותחילה עליו לשפוט את בניו. אם אף עלינו, המאמינים, להישפט, תארו לעצמכם מה נורא יהיה גורלם של אלה אשר מעולם לא האמינו באלוהים ובמשיח! 18 אם הצדיקים נושעים בקושי, איזה סיכוי יש לרשעים?
19 לפיכך, גם אם אתה סובל, כרצון אלוהים, המשך לעשות את הטוב, והפקד את עצמך בידי האלוהים אשר ברא אותך, כי הוא לעולם לא יאכזב אותך.

حَيَاةٌ التَّغيير
4 فَمَا دَامَ المَسِيحُ قَدْ تَألَّمَ بِجَسَدِهِ، تَسَلَّحُوا أنتُمْ أيْضًا بِهَذَا الفِكْرِ. لِأنَّ مَنْ يَتَألَّمُ بِالجَسَدِ، يَتَوَقَّفُ عَنِ العَيشِ فِي الخَطِيَّةِ، 2 وَلَا يَعُودُ يُكَرِّسُ بَقِيَّةَ حَيَاتِهِ الأرْضِيَّةِ لِلشَّهَوَاتِ الجَسَدِيَّةِ، بَلْ لِتَنْفِيذِ إرَادَةِ اللهِ. 3 فَكَفَاكُمْ مَا قَضَيتُمْ مِنْ وَقْتٍ فِي المَاضِي وَأنْتُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُريدُهُ غَيْرُ المُؤْمِنِينَ، إذِ انغَمَسْتُمْ فِي كُلِّ أنْوَاعِ الخَطَايَا الجِنسِيَّةِ وَالشَّهَوَاتِ وَالسُّكْرِ وَالخَلَاعَةِ وَاللَهوِ المُنحَرِفِ وَعِبَادَةِ الأصْنَامِ البَغِيضَةِ.
4 وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْرِبُونَ الآنَ أنَّكُمْ لَا تُجَارُونَهُمْ فِي تَيَّارِ انحِلَالِهِمْ هَذَا، فَيَفْتَرُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ. 5 لَكِنَّ المَسِيحَ المُسْتَعِدَّ لإدَانَةِ الأحيَاءِ وَالأمْوَاتِ، سَيُحَاسِبُهُمْ عِنْدَ مَجِيئِهِ. 6 فَمِنَ الأمْوَاتِ الآنَ مَنْ كَانُوا قَدْ بُشِّرُوا سَابِقًا، فَأدَانَهُمُ النَّاسُ أثْنَاءَ حَيَاتِهِمْ. لَكِنَّ اللهَ كَانَ يُريدُ أنْ تَكُونَ لَهُمْ حَيَاةٌ بِالرٌّوحِ.
وُكَلَاءٌ صَالِحُون
7 لَقَدِ اقْتَرَبَ زَمَنُ نِهَايَةِ كُلِّ شَيءٍ. فَكُونُوا مُتَعَقِّلِينَ وَاضْبُطُوا أنْفُسَكُمْ، فَهَذَا يُفِيدُكُمْ فِي صَلَوَاتِكُمْ. 8 وَفَوقَ كُلِّ شَيءٍ، لِتَكُنْ مَحَبَّتُكُمْ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ثَابِتَةً، لِأنَّ المَحَبَّةَ تَغْفِرُ خَطَايَا كَثِيرَةً. 9 افتَحُوا بُيُوتَكُمْ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ دُونَ تَذَمُّرٍ. 10 وَليَسْتَخْدِمْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمُ المَوهِبَةَ الَّتِي نَالَهَا مِنَ اللهِ فِي خِدْمَةِ الآخَرِينَ، كَوُكَلَاءَ صَالِحِينَ عَلَى نِعْمَةِ اللهِ بِأشكَالِهَا المُتُنَوِّعَةِ. 11 مَنْ يَتَكَلَّمُ، فَليَتَكَلَّمْ بِكَلَامِ اللهِ، وَمَنْ يَخْدِمُ، فَلْيَخْدِمْ بِالقُوَّةِ الَّتِي يُعطِيهَا لَهُ اللهُ. وَهَكَذَا يُعْطَى المَجْدُ فِي كُلِّ شَيءٍ للهِ، بِيَسُوعَ المَسِيحِ. لَهُ المَجْدُ وَالقُوَّةُ إلَى أبَدِ الآبِدِينَ. آمِين.
ألَمُ المُؤمِن
12 لَا تَسْتَغْرِبُوا أيُّهَا الأحِبَّاءُ، المِحَنَ الشَّدِيدَةَ الحَاصِلَةَ بَيْنَكُمْ، وَالَّتِي تَهْدِفُ إلَى امتِحَانِكُمْ. فَلَا تَنْظُرُوا إلَيْهَا كَشَيءٍ غَرِيبٍ يَحْدُثُ لَكُمْ، 13 بَلِ افرَحُوا لِأنَّكُمْ تَشْتَرِكُونَ الآنَ فِي آلَامِ المَسِيحِ، لِكَي تَفِيضُوا فَرَحًا عِنْدَمَا يَظْهَرُ مَجْدُ المَسِيحِ. 14 فَهَنِيئًا لَكُمْ إنْ كُنْتُمْ تُهَانُونَ مِنْ أجْلِ اسْمِ المَسِيحِ، لِأنَّ الرُّوحَ المَجِيدَ، رُوحَ اللهِ، يَحِلُّ عَلَيْكُمْ. 15 فَلَا يَتَألَّمْ أحَدُكُمْ لِأنَّهُ قَاتِلٌ أوْ فَاعِلُ شَرٍّ، أوْ حَتَّى مُتَدَخِّلٌ فِي مَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ. 16 لَكِنْ، إذَا تَألَّمَ لِكَونِهِ مَسِيحِيًّا، فَلَا مُوجِبَ لِخَجَلِهِ. بَلْ لِيُمَجِّدِ اللهَ لِأنَّهُ يَحْمِلُ اسْمَ المَسِيحِ. 17 فَقَدْ حَانَ وَقْتُ القَضَاءِ الإلَهيِّ بَدءًا بِعَائِلَةِ اللهِ. فِإنْ كَانَ يَبْدَأُ بِنَا، فَكَيْفَ سَتَكُونُ نِهَايَةُ الَّذِينَ لَا يُطِيعُونَ بِشَارَةَ اللهِ؟
18 «فَإنْ كَانَ الإنْسَانُ الصَّالِحُ بِالكَادِ يَخْلُصُ، فَمَاذَا سَيَحِلُّ بِالفَاجِرِ وَالخَاطِئِ؟»[a]
19 إذًا فَلْيَضَعِ الَّذِينَ يُعَانُونَ بِحَسَبِ مَشِيئَةِ اللهِ حَيَاتَهُمْ وَديعَةً لَدَى خَالِقِهِمُ الأمِينِ، وَلْيُواصِلُوا عَمَلَ الخَيْرِ.

Christ’s Example to Be Followed
4 Therefore, since Christ suffered [a]for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, (A)but for the will of God. 3 For we have spent enough of our past [b]lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. 5 They will give an account to Him who is ready (B)to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this reason (C)the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but (D)live according to God in the spirit.
Serving for God’s Glory
7 But (E)the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for (F)“love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 (G)Be hospitable to one another (H)without grumbling. 10 (I)As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, (J)as good stewards of (K)the manifold grace of God. 11 (L)If anyone speaks, let him speak as the [c]oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that (M)in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the [d]dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Suffering for God’s Glory
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice (N)to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that (O)when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are [e]reproached for the name of Christ, (P)blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. [f]On their part He is blasphemed, (Q)but on your part He is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a [g]busybody in other people’s matters. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this [h]matter.
17 For the time has come (R)for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, (S)what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 Now
(T)“If the righteous one is scarcely saved,
Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God (U)commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
