사데 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지
3 “사데 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라.
‘하나님의 일곱 영과 일곱 별을 가지신 분께서 하시는 말씀이다. 나는 네가 하는 짓을 안다. 너는 살아 있다는 이름은 가지고 있지만, 사실 너는 죽어 있다. 2 깨어나라! 네게 아직 남아 있는 것이 완전히 죽어 없어지기 전에 힘을 북돋아 주어라. 나는 네가 하는 일이 내 하나님께서 보시기에 완전하다고 보지 않는다. 3 그러므로 네가 받고 들은 가르침을 기억하고, 그 가르침에 순종하여라. 그리고 회개하여라. 그러나 네가 깨어나지 않으면, 내가 도둑처럼 예기치 않은 때에 올 것이다. 너는 내가 어느 시간에 네게 올지 모를 것이다.
4 그러나 사데에는 자신의 옷을 더럽히지 않은 사람 몇이 있다. 그들은 흰 옷을 입고 나와 함께 걸을 것이다. 그들은 그럴 만한 자격이 있다. 5 이기는 사람은 이들처럼 흰 옷을 입을 것이다. 나는 생명책에서 그의 이름을 결코 지우지 않을 것이다. 나는 내 아버지와 아버지의 천사들 앞에서 그가 내 사람이라고 분명히 말할 것이다. 6 귀 있는 사람은 성령께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라.’”
필라델피아 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지
7 “필라델피아 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라.
‘거룩하시고 진실되시며, 다윗의 열쇠를 쥐고 계신 분께서 하시는 말씀이다. 그분께서 여시는 것은 아무도 닫을 수 없다. 그리고 그분께서 닫으시는 것은 아무도 열 수 없다.[a] 8 나는 네 행위를 안다. 보라! 나는 네 앞에, 아무도 닫을 수 없는 열린 문을 놓아두었다. 나는, 네가 힘은 적으나 내 말을 지키고, 내 이름을 부인하지 않은 것을 알고 있다. 9 들어라! 사탄의 회당에 속한 무리가 있다. 그들은 자기들이 유대 사람이라고 주장하나, 그들은 거짓말쟁이이다. 그들은 참 유대 사람이 아니다. 나는 그들이 와서 네 발 앞에 엎드리게 하고, 내가 너를 사랑해 왔다는 것을 인정하게 하겠다. 10 참고 견디라는 내 명령을 너는 잘 지켜 왔다. 그러므로 땅 위에 사는 사람들을 시험하려고 온 세상에 시련이 닥쳐 올 때에 내가 너를 지켜 주겠다.
11 내가 곧 가겠다. 네가 가진 것을 꼭 붙들어서, 아무도 네 면류관을 빼앗을 수 없게 하여라. 12 이기는 사람은 내 하나님의 성전의 기둥으로 삼겠다. 그 사람은 언제나 하나님의 성전에 있을 것이다. 나는 그 사람 위에 내 하나님의 이름과 내 하나님의 도시의 이름을 쓰겠다. 그 도시는 하늘에서 내 하나님께로부터 내려오는 새 예루살렘[b]이다. 그리고 나는 그 사람 위에 나의 새 이름도 쓰겠다. 13 귀 있는 사람은 성령께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라.’”
라오디게아 교회에 보내는 예수의 편지
14 “라오디게아 교회의 천사에게 이렇게 써서 보내어라.
‘충실하고 진실한 증인이시며, 하나님께서 만드신 모든 것의 근원이신 아멘[c]께서 하시는 말씀이다. 15 나는 네가 하는 짓을 안다. 너는 차지도 뜨겁지도 않다. 네가 차거나 뜨거우면 좋겠다. 16 네가 차지도 뜨겁지도 않고 미적지근하므로, 나는 너를 내 입에서 뱉어 내려 한다. 17 너는 이렇게 말한다. “나는 부자다. 나는 풍족하니 부족한 것이 조금도 없다.” 그러나 사실은 너 자신이 비참하고 가엾고 가난하고 눈멀고 벌거벗었다는 것을 깨닫지 못하고 있다. 18 그러므로 내가 네게 충고한다. 너는 내게서 금을 사서 부자가 되어라. 이 금은 불로 달구어 더러운 것을 모두 태워 버린 순금이다. 그리고 내게서 흰 옷을 사서 부끄러운 네 벌거숭이 모습을 가리고, 연고를 사서 눈에 발라 보도록 하여라.
19 나는 내가 사랑하는 사람들을 꾸짖고 훈련시킨다. 그러니 네 생각과 행동을 바꾸도록 힘써 노력하여라. 20 내가 여기 있다! 내가 문 밖에 서서 문을 두드린다. 누구든지 내 목소리를 듣고 문을 열면, 내가 들어가서 그와 함께 먹을 것이다. 그리고 그는 나와 함께 먹을 것이다.
21 나는 이겼다. 그래서 내 아버지의 보좌에 아버지와 함께 앉았다. 마찬가지로 누구든지 이기는 사람에게는, 나와 함께 내 보좌에 앉을 권리를 주겠다. 22 귀 있는 사람은 성령께서 교회들에게 하시는 말씀을 들어라.’”

3 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

To the Church in Sardis
3 “To the angel[a] of the church in Sardis(A) write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits[b](B) of God and the seven stars.(C) I know your deeds;(D) you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.(E) 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent.(F) But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief,(G) and you will not know at what time(H) I will come to you.
4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes.(I) They will walk with me, dressed in white,(J) for they are worthy. 5 The one who is victorious(K) will, like them, be dressed in white.(L) I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life,(M) but will acknowledge that name before my Father(N) and his angels. 6 Whoever has ears, let them hear(O) what the Spirit says to the churches.
To the Church in Philadelphia
7 “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia(P) write:
These are the words of him who is holy(Q) and true,(R) who holds the key of David.(S) What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds.(T) See, I have placed before you an open door(U) that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.(V) 9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan,(W) who claim to be Jews though they are not,(X) but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet(Y) and acknowledge that I have loved you.(Z) 10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you(AA) from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world(AB) to test(AC) the inhabitants of the earth.(AD)
11 I am coming soon.(AE) Hold on to what you have,(AF) so that no one will take your crown.(AG) 12 The one who is victorious(AH) I will make a pillar(AI) in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God(AJ) and the name of the city of my God,(AK) the new Jerusalem,(AL) which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. 13 Whoever has ears, let them hear(AM) what the Spirit says to the churches.
To the Church in Laodicea
14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea(AN) write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness,(AO) the ruler of God’s creation.(AP) 15 I know your deeds,(AQ) that you are neither cold nor hot.(AR) I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’(AS) But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.(AT) 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire,(AU) so you can become rich; and white clothes(AV) to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness;(AW) and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.(AX) So be earnest and repent.(AY) 20 Here I am! I stand at the door(AZ) and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,(BA) I will come in(BB) and eat with that person, and they with me.
21 To the one who is victorious,(BC) I will give the right to sit with me on my throne,(BD) just as I was victorious(BE) and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Whoever has ears, let them hear(BF) what the Spirit says to the churches.”
