8 엘리사가 전에 죽은 아이를 살려 준 일이 있었는데, 그는 그 아이의 어머니에게 이렇게 말하였다. “부인은 가족을 데리고 어디든 몸 붙여 살 만한 곳에 가서 살도록 하십시오. 주께서 이 땅에 기근을 명하셨으니 일곱 해 동안 기근이 계속 될 것입니다.” 2 여인은 하나님의 사람이 시킨 대로 블레셋 땅에 가서 일곱 해 동안 살았다. 3 일곱 해가 지난 다음에 그 여인은 블레셋 땅에서 돌아와 자기의 집과 땅을 돌려받기 위해 왕을 찾아갔다.
4 그때 왕은 하나님의 사람의 종 게하시를 불러 이야기를 나누고 있었다. 왕이 그에게 말하였다. “엘리사가 행한 놀라운 일을 모두 이야기해 다오.” 5 그리하여 게하시가 왕에게 엘리사가 어떻게 하여 죽은 사람을 다시 살렸는지를 이야기하고 있었다. 바로 그때 엘리사가 다시 살려 준 아이의 어머니가 자기의 집과 땅을 돌려받기 위해 왕에게 왔다.
게하시가 말하였다. “임금님, 이 부인이 제가 말씀 드린 바로 그 부인입니다. 그리고 이 아이가 바로 엘리사가 다시 살려 준 부인의 아들입니다.” 6 왕은 그 여인에게 그것이 사실인지 물었다. 그러자 그 여자는 사실대로 왕에게 말하였다.
왕이 신하 한 사람을 불러서 그 여인의 일을 맡기며 말하였다. “이 여인에게 속한 모든 것을 돌려주고, 이 여인이 이 나라를 떠난 날부터 지금까지 그의 땅에서 난 모든 소출을 돌려주도록 하여라.”
하사엘이 벤하닷을 죽이다
7 엘리사가 다마스쿠스에 갔다. 그런데 그때 아람 왕 벤하닷이 병들었다. 그에게 “하나님의 사람이 멀리 이곳까지 왔습니다.”라는 말이 전해졌다. 8 그러자 왕이 하사엘에게 말하였다. “선물을 가지고 하나님의 사람을 만나러 가시오. 내 병이 나을 수 있는지 주께 여쭈어 달라고 부탁하시오.”
9 하사엘이 다마스쿠스에서 나는 온갖 것을 선물로 준비하여 낙타 사십 마리에 싣고 엘리사를 만나러 갔다. 하사엘이 말하였다. “선생님의 아들 같은 아람의 벤하닷 임금님께서 저를 선생님께 보냈습니다. 임금님께서는 자신의 병이 나을 수 있을지 선생님께 여쭈어 보라고 하셨습니다.”
10 엘리사가 대답하였다. “가서 벤하닷 왕에게 ‘임금님의 병이 나을 것입니다.’라고 말하시오. 그러나 주께서는 그가 실제로 죽을 것임을 나에게 보여 주셨소.” 11 엘리사는 하사엘이 부끄러울 정도로 하사엘을 뚫어지게 바라보았다. 그러더니 울기 시작하였다.
12 하사엘이 물었다. “선생님, 무엇 때문에 우십니까?”
엘리사가 대답하였다. “그대가 이스라엘 백성들에게 끼칠 해악을 알기에 이렇게 우는 것이오. 그대는 이스라엘의 요새 성읍들을 불로 태우고, 젊은 사람들을 칼로 죽이며, 어린아이들을 땅바닥에 메어쳐 죽이고, 임신한 여자의 배를 가를 것이오.”
13 하사엘이 말하였다. “저같이 하찮은 자가 어떻게 그런 엄청난 일을 할 수 있겠습니까?”
엘리사가 대답하였다. “그대가 아람을 다스릴 왕이 될 것을 주께서 나에게 보여 주셨소.”
14 하사엘이 엘리사를 떠나 그의 주인에게 돌아가니 벤하닷이 그에게 물었다. “엘리사가 네게 무엇이라고 하더냐?”
하사엘이 대답하였다. “임금님의 병이 틀림없이 나을 것이라고 말하였습니다.”
15 그러나 다음 날 하사엘은 두꺼운 천을 물에 흠뻑 적셔 벤하닷의 얼굴을 덮어 그를 죽였다. 그런 다음 하사엘은 벤하닷의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.
유다 왕 여호람

16 이스라엘 왕 아합의 아들 요람 제오년에[a] 여호사밧의 아들 여호람이 유다의 왕이 되어 다스리기 시작하였다. 17 여호람은 서른두 살에 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 팔 년 동안 다스렸다. 18 그는 아합의 딸과 결혼하였기 때문에 아합 집안이 한 것처럼 이스라엘 왕들의 길을 걸었다. 그는 주께서 보시기에 악한 일을 하였다. 19 그러나 주께서는 당신의 종 다윗을 생각하시어 유다를 멸망시키고 싶지 않으셨다. 일찍이 다윗과 그 후손들에게 언제나 왕위에 오를 자손을 주시겠다고[b] 약속하셨기 때문이다.
20 여호람 시대에 에돔이 유다에 반기를 들고 일어나 자기들의 왕을 세웠다. 21 그리하여 여호람은 모든 전차부대를 앞세워 사일로 갔다. 에돔군이 그와 그의 전차부대 지휘관들을 에워쌌으나, 그는 밤을 틈타 적을 공격하였다. 그러나 그의 군대는 도망쳐 각기 집으로 돌아가 버렸다. 22 이리하여 에돔은 유다의 지배에서 벗어나 오늘에 이르고 있다. 립나가 반기를 들고 일어난 것도 그때이다.
23 여호람이 다스리는 동안에 일어난 다른 일들과 그가 한 일은 모두 ‘유다 왕들의 역사’에 기록되어 있다. 24 여호람은 죽어서 그의 조상들이 묻힌 다윗 성에 묻혔다. 여호람의 뒤를 이어 그의 아들 아하시야가 왕이 되었다.

25 이스라엘 왕 아합의 아들 요람 제십이년에 여호람의 아들 아하시야가 유다 왕이 되었다. 26 아하시야는 스물두 살에 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 한 해 동안 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 아달랴는 이스라엘 왕 오므리의 손녀였다. 27 아하시야는 아합 집안이 걸었던 길을 따라 걸었다. 그는 아합 집안과 혼인 관계를 맺어, 아합 집안이 한 것과 같이 주께서 보시기에 악한 일을 하였다.
요람이 부상을 당하다
28 아하시야가 아합의 아들 요람과 함께 아람 왕 하사엘을 맞아 싸우려고 길르앗의 라못으로 갔다. 아람군이 요람에게 부상을 입혔다. 29 그리하여 요람 왕은 라못에서 아람 왕 하사엘과 싸우다가 입은 상처를 치료하려고 이스르엘로 돌아갔다.
그러자 유다 왕 여호람의 아들 아하시야가 부상을 입은 아합의 아들 요람을 문병하려고 이스르엘로 내려갔다.

8 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the Lord by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the Lord hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The Lord hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover.
15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Je hoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

The Shunammite’s Land Restored
8 Now Elisha had said to the woman(A) whose son he had restored to life, “Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine(B) in the land that will last seven years.”(C) 2 The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3 At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to appeal to the king for her house and land. 4 The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, “Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.” 5 Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored(D) the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to appeal to the king for her house and land.
Gehazi said, “This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 The king asked the woman about it, and she told him.
Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, “Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now.”
Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad
7 Elisha went to Damascus,(E) and Ben-Hadad(F) king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here,” 8 he said to Hazael,(G) “Take a gift(H) with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult(I) the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
9 Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”
10 Elisha answered, “Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’(J) Nevertheless,[a] the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die.” 11 He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed.(K) Then the man of God began to weep.(L)
12 “Why is my lord weeping?” asked Hazael.
“Because I know the harm(M) you will do to the Israelites,” he answered. “You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash(N) their little children(O) to the ground, and rip open(P) their pregnant women.”
13 Hazael said, “How could your servant, a mere dog,(Q) accomplish such a feat?”
“The Lord has shown me that you will become king(R) of Aram,” answered Elisha.
14 Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me that you would certainly recover.” 15 But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died.(S) Then Hazael succeeded him as king.
Jehoram King of Judah(T)
16 In the fifth year of Joram(U) son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram(V) son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter(W) of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19 Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy(X) Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp(Y) for David and his descendants forever.
20 In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.(Z) 21 So Jehoram[b] went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. 22 To this day Edom has been in rebellion(AA) against Judah. Libnah(AB) revolted at the same time.
23 As for the other events of Jehoram’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24 Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.
Ahaziah King of Judah(AC)
25 In the twelfth(AD) year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. 26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah,(AE) a granddaughter of Omri(AF) king of Israel. 27 He followed the ways of the house of Ahab(AG) and did evil(AH) in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab’s family.
28 Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.(AI) The Arameans wounded Joram; 29 so King Joram returned to Jezreel(AJ) to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth[c] in his battle with Hazael(AK) king of Aram.
Then Ahaziah(AL) son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.

And Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.” 6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him.
So the king appointed a certain officer for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now.”
Death of Ben-Hadad
7 Then Elisha went to Damascus, and (F)Ben-Hadad king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.” 8 And the king said to (G)Hazael, (H)“Take a present in your hand, and go to meet the man of God, and (I)inquire of the Lord by him, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’ ” 9 So (J)Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, of every good thing of Damascus, forty camel-loads; and he came and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’ ”
10 And Elisha said to him, “Go, say to him, ‘You shall certainly recover.’ However the Lord has shown me that (K)he will really die.” 11 Then he [a]set his countenance in a stare until he was ashamed; and the man of God (L)wept. 12 And Hazael said, “Why is my lord weeping?”
He answered, “Because I know (M)the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: Their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword; and you (N)will dash their children, and rip open their women with child.”
13 So Hazael said, “But what (O)is your servant—a dog, that he should do this gross thing?”
And Elisha answered, (P)“The Lord has shown me that you will become king over Syria.”

Jehoram Reigns in Judah(Q)
