39 “사람의 아들아, 너는 곡을 책망하고 예언하라. 너는 나 주 여호와가 이렇게 말한다고 그에게 일러 주어라: 메섹과 두발의 왕 곡아, 내가 너를 대적한다.
2 내가 너를 돌이켜 먼 북쪽에서 이끌어내어 이스라엘 산에 이르게 한 다음
3 네 활을 쳐서 그것을 네 왼손에서 떨어뜨리고 네 화살을 네 오른손에서 떨어뜨리겠다.
4 너와 네 군대와 너의 동맹국들이 이스라엘 산에서 쓰러질 것이다. 내가 너를 육식하는 새와 들짐승의 밥이 되게 하겠다.
5 나 주 여호와가 이미 말하였으므로 너는 빈 들에 쓰러질 것이다.
6 내가 마곡과 그리고 연안 지역에서 편안하게 살고 있는 자들에게 불을 내리겠다. 그러면 그들이 나를 여호와인 줄 알 것이다.
7 내가 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데 나의 거룩한 이름을 알리고 다시는 나의 거룩한 이름이 더럽혀지지 않게 하겠다. 그러면 모든 나라가 나 여호와는 이스라엘의 거룩한 자임을 알게 될 것이다.
8 나 주 여호와가 말하지만 내가 말한 그 날이 분명히 오고야 말 것이다.
9 “이스라엘의 여러 성에 사는 자들이 나가서 버려진 무기를 주워다가 땔감으로 쓸 것이며 그들은 크고 작은 방패와 활과 화살과 전투용 몽둥이와 창으로 7년 동안 불을 땔 것이다.
10 그들은 무기를 땔감으로 사용할 것이기 때문에 들에서 나무를 줍거나 숲속에서 나무를 베지 않을 것이다. 또 그들은 자기들을 약탈한 자들을 약탈하고 자기들이 빼앗긴 것을 다시 뺏을 것이다. 이것은 나 주 여호와의 말이다.
11 “그 날에 내가 곡에게 이스라엘에 있는 한 땅을 매장지로 주겠다. 그것은 사해 동쪽으로 통행하는 자들의 골짜기이다. 곡과 그의 모든 군대가 거기에 묻힐 것이므로 통행하던 길이 막힐 것이다. 그래서 그 골짜기는 [a]‘곡의 군대 골짜기’ 로 불려질 것이다.
12 “이스라엘 백성들이 그 시체를 매장하고 그 땅을 깨끗이 정리하는 데 7개월이 걸릴 것이다.
13 그 땅 모든 백성들이 그들을 매장할 것이며 내가 내 영광을 나타내는 그 날이 이스라엘에게 영광스러운 승리의 날이 될 것이다.
14 “그들은 일정한 사람들을 고용하여 그 땅을 깨끗하게 하되 일부는 그 땅을 순회하게 하고 일부는 그 땅에 남아 있는 시체들을 매장하도록 할 것이다. 7개월이 끝날 무렵에 그들은 그 땅의 탐색을 시작할 것이다.
15 탐색하는 자가 사람의 뼈를 발견하면 그 곁에 표시물을 세워 매장하는 자들이 그것을 보고 곡의 군대 골짜기에 묻도록 할 것이다.
16 그리고 그 부근에 [b]‘하모나’ 라는 성이 생길 것이다. 이렇게 해서 그들은 그 땅을 깨끗하게 할 것이다.
17 “나 주 여호와가 말한다. 사람의 아들아, 너는 각종 새와 들짐승에게 이렇게 말하라. ‘너희는 사방에서 모여들어 내가 너희를 위해 이스라엘 산에 준비한 큰 잔치에 와서 고기를 먹고 피를 마셔라.
18 너희가 바산의 살진 짐승, 곧 숫양이나 어린 양이나 염소나 수송아지를 먹는 것처럼 용사들의 살을 먹고 세상 왕들의 피를 마시게 될 것이다.
19 내가 너희를 위해 마련한 잔치에서 너희는 배부를 때까지 기름을 먹고 취할 때까지 피를 마시며
20 내 상에서 말과 기병과 용사와 모든 병사들의 살을 배불리 먹을 것이다. 이것은 나 주 여호와의 말이다.’
21 “내가 온 세상에 내 영광을 나타낼 것이니 모든 나라가 내가 행한 심판과 나의 능력을 보게 될 것이다.
22 그때부터 이스라엘 백성은 내가 그들의 하나님 여호와임을 알 것이며
23 세상 나라들은 이스라엘 백성이 포로로 잡혀간 이유가 그들의 죄 때문이었음을 알게 될 것이다. 그들이 나에게 범죄하였으므로 나는 그들에게 내 얼굴을 가리고 그들을 그 원수들에게 넘겨 주어 칼날에 다 쓰러지게 하였다.
24 나는 그들의 더러움과 죄에 따라 그들을 벌하고 외면하였다.
25 “그러므로 나 주 여호와가 말한다. 내가 이제 나의 거룩한 이름을 위해서 야곱의 후손인 이스라엘 백성을 불쌍히 여겨 그들을 포로 된 땅에서 돌아오게 하겠다.
26 그들이 자기들의 땅에서 아무 두려움 없이 편안하게 살게 될 때 그들은 나에게 범죄하여 수치당하던 일을 잊을 것이다.
27 내가 그들을 모든 나라에서 이끌어내고 적국으로부터 모아들일 때 내가 그들을 통해 많은 나라가 보는 데서 나의 거룩함을 나타낼 것이다.
28 내가 그들을 이방 나라에 사로잡혀가게 하였으나 한 사람도 남기지 않고 그들의 본토로 돌아오게 하겠다. 그들은 내가 자기들의 하나님 여호와임을 알게 될 것이다.
29 내가 이스라엘 백성에게 나의 성령을 줄 것이며 다시는 그들을 외면하지 않을 것이다. 이것은 나 주 여호와의 말이다.”

39 “Son of man, prophesy against Gog(A) and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of[a] Meshek(B) and Tubal.(C) 2 I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north(D) and send you against the mountains of Israel.(E) 3 Then I will strike your bow(F) from your left hand and make your arrows(G) drop from your right hand. 4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds(H) and to the wild animals.(I) 5 You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.(J) 6 I will send fire(K) on Magog(L) and on those who live in safety in the coastlands,(M) and they will know(N) that I am the Lord.
7 “‘I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned,(O) and the nations will know(P) that I the Lord am the Holy One in Israel.(Q) 8 It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord. This is the day(R) I have spoken of.
9 “‘Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up—the small and large shields, the bows and arrows,(S) the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.(T) 10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder(U) those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign Lord.(V)
11 “‘On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the valley of those who travel east of the Sea. It will block the way of travelers, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried(W) there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog.[b](X)
12 “‘For seven months the Israelites will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.(Y) 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and the day I display my glory(Z) will be a memorable day for them, declares the Sovereign Lord. 14 People will be continually employed in cleansing the land. They will spread out across the land and, along with others, they will bury any bodies that are lying on the ground.
“‘After the seven months they will carry out a more detailed search. 15 As they go through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will leave a marker beside it until the gravediggers bury it in the Valley of Hamon Gog, 16 near a town called Hamonah.[c] And so they will cleanse the land.’
17 “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Call out to every kind of bird(AA) and all the wild animals: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.(AB) 18 You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls—all of them fattened animals from Bashan.(AC) 19 At the sacrifice(AD) I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk. 20 At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.(AE)
21 “I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the punishment I inflict and the hand I lay on them.(AF) 22 From that day forward the people of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God. 23 And the nations will know that the people of Israel went into exile for their sin, because they were unfaithful to me. So I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.(AG) 24 I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their offenses, and I hid my face from them.(AH)
25 “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will now restore the fortunes of Jacob[d](AI) and will have compassion(AJ) on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name.(AK) 26 They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety(AL) in their land with no one to make them afraid.(AM) 27 When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of many nations.(AN) 28 Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them(AO) to their own land, not leaving any behind.(AP) 29 I will no longer hide my face(AQ) from them, for I will pour out my Spirit(AR) on the people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.(AS)”
