이집트에서 모압까지의 여정
33 이것은 이스라엘 백성이 모세와 아론의 인솔하에 이집트를 떠나온 여 정이다.
2 모세는 여호와의 명령에 따라 그 여정을 이렇게 기록하였다:
3 이스라엘 백성은 유월절 다음날인 월 15일에 모든 이집트인들이 지켜 보는 가운데 당당하게 라암셋을 떠났는데
4 그때는 이집트 사람들이 여호와께서 죽인 그들의 장남을 매장하고 있을 때였다. 이렇게 하여 여호와께서는 이집트의 모든 신들을 보기 좋게 물리치셨다.
5 이스라엘 백성은 라암셋을 출발하여 숙곳에 천막을 쳤고
6 다음은 광야 끝에 위치한 에담에 천막을 쳤으며
7 거기서 그들은 바알 – 스본 동쪽 비 – 하히롯으로 되돌아가 믹돌 근처에 천막을 쳤다.
8 그들은 비 – 하히롯에서 출발하여 홍해를 지나 에담 광야에 이르고 에담 광야에서 3일을 행진하여 마라에 천막을 쳤다.
9 그들은 다시 마라를 출발하여 엘림에 도착했으며 거기에는 열두 개의 샘과 종려나무 70그루가 있었다. 그래서 그들은 거기서 천막을 쳤다.
10 그들은 다시 엘림을 출발하여 홍해 근처에 천막을 쳤고
11 다음은 신 광야에서,
12 다음은 돕가에서,
13 다음은 알루스에서 천막을 쳤다.
14 그들은 다시 거기서 출발하여 르비딤에 천막을 쳤는데 그 곳에는 마실 물이 없었다.
15-19 그리고 그들이 르비딤에서 출발하여 다 음으로 천막을 친 곳은 시나이 광야, 기브롯 – 핫다아와 하세롯, 릿마, 림몬 – 베레스,
20-24 립나, 릿사, 그헬라다, 세벨산, 하라다,
25-30 막헬롯, 다핫, 데라, 밋가, 하스모나, 모세롯,
31-37 브네 – 야아간, 홀 – 하깃갓, 욧바다, 아브 로나, 에시온 – 게벨, 진 광야의 가데스, 그리고 에돔 국경 지대에 있는 호르산이었다.
38-39 이스라엘 백성이 이집트에서 나온 지 40년째가 되는 해 5월 일에 제사장 아론은 여호와의 명령대로 호르산에 올라가 거기서 죽었으며 그 때 그의 나이는 123세였다.
40 가나안의 남쪽 네겝 지방에 살던 아랏 왕은 이스라엘 백성이 오고 있다는 말을 들었다.
41-49 이스라엘 백성이 호르산에서 출발하여 그 다음으로 천막을 친 곳은 살모나, 부논, 오봇, 모압 국경 지대에 있는 이예 – 아바림, 디본 – 갓, 알몬 – 디블라다임, 느보산 부근의 아바림산, 그리고 벧 – 여시못에서부터 아벨 – 싯딤에 이르는 여리고 맞은편 요단 강변의 모압 평야였다.
요단강을 건너기 전의 교훈
50-51 여리고 맞은편 요단 강변 모압 평야에 서 여호와께서는 모세를 통해 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “너희가 요단강을 건너 가나안 땅에 들어가거든
52 그 땅에 사는 사람들을 다 쫓아내고 돌에 새겨 만든 것이든 쇳물을 부어 만든 것이든 우상은 모조리 부숴 버리고 그들의 모든 산당을 파괴하라.
53 내가 그 땅을 너희에게 주었으니 그 곳을 점령하여 거기서 살아라.
54 너희는 각 지파와 집안별로 제비를 뽑아 그 땅을 분배하되 넓은 땅은 인원수가 많은 지파끼리 제비를 뽑고 좁은 땅은 인원수가 적은 지파끼리 제비를 뽑아 분배하라.
55 그러나 만일 너희가 그 땅의 원주민들을 쫓아내지 않으면 남아 있는 자들이 너희 눈과 옆구리를 찌르는 가시와 같이 너희를 괴롭힐 것이다.
56 그리고 내가 그들을 멸망시키려고 계획한 것처럼 너희를 멸망시킬 것이다.”

Stages of Israel’s Journey.[a] 1 These are the journeys of the people of Israel who came out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. 2 At the command of the Lord, Moses recorded the stages of their journeys. These are their journeys by stages: 3 the people of Israel left Rameses on the fifteenth day of the first month, the day after Passover. They went out triumphantly in the sight of the Egyptians. 4 This was while the Egyptians were burying their firstborn whom the Lord had slain. The Lord also executed judgment upon their gods.
5 The people of Israel set out from Rameses, and they camped in Succoth. 6 They set out from Succoth and they camped in Etham, which is on the fringes of the desert. 7 They left Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth, to the east of Baal-zephon. They camped near Migdol. 8 They left Pi-hahiroth and crossed over through the midst of the sea into the desert. They traveled for three days in the Desert of Etham, camping in Marah. 9 They left Marah and came to Elim. There are twelve springs and seventy palm trees there, so they camped there. 10 They left Elim and camped by the Red Sea.
11 They left the Red Sea and camped in the Desert of Sin. 12 They left the Desert of Sin and camped in Dophkah. 13 They left Dophkah and camped in Alush. 14 They left Alush and camped in Rephidim. (There was no water there for the people to drink.) 15 They left Rephidim and camped in the Sinai Desert. 16 They left the Sinai Desert and camped in Kibroth-hattaavah. 17 They left Kibroth-hattaavah and camped in Hazeroth. 18 They left Hazeroth and camped in Rithmah. 19 They left Rithmah and camped in Rimmon-perez. 20 They left Rimmon-perez and camped in Libnah. 21 They left Libnah and camped in Rissah. 22 They left Rissah and camped in Kehelathah. 23 They left Kehelathah and camped at Mount Shepher. 24 They left Mount Shepher and camped in Haradah. 25 They left Haradah and camped in Makheloth. 26 They left Makheloth and camped in Tahath. 27 They left Tahath and camped in Terah. 28 They left Terah and camped in Mithkah. 29 They left Mithkah and camped in Hashmonah. 30 They left Hashmonah and camped in Moseroth. 31 They left Moseroth and camped in Bene-jaakan. 32 They left Bene-jaakan and camped in Hor-haggidgad. 33 They left Hor-haggidgad and camped in Jotbathah. 34 They left Jotbathah and camped in Abronah. 35 They left Abronah and camped in Ezion-geber.[b] 36 They left Ezion-geber and camped in Kadesh, which is in the Desert of Zin. 37 They left Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, on the border of Edom.
38 Then Aaron the priest went up Mount Hor following the Lord’s command. He died there in the fortieth year after the people of Israel came out of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month. 39 Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40 The Canaanite king of Arad who dwelt in the Negeb in the land of Canaan heard that the people of Israel were coming.
41 They left Mount Hor and camped in Zalmonah. 42 They left Zalmonah and camped in Punon. 43 They left Punon and camped in Oboth. 44 They left Punon and camped in Iye-abarim on the border of Moab. 45 They left Iye-abarim, and camped in Dibon-gad. 46 They left Dibon-gad and camped in Almon-diblathaim. 47 They left Almon-diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim near Nebo. 48 They left the mountains of Abarim and camped in the plain of Moab near the Jordan, across from Jericho. 49 There on the plain of Moab they camped near the Jordan from Beth-jeshimoth to Abel-shittim.
50 Possession and Division of Canaan. On the plain of Moab near the Jordan, across from Jericho, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 51 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan 52 drive out the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all of their carved images[c] and all of their cast idols. Demolish all of their high places. 53 Take possession of the land and live in it, for I have given you the land to possess. 54 Distribute the land by lot among your families. Give a larger inheritance to those that are larger and a smaller inheritance to those that are smaller. Wherever the lot falls, give it to them. Distribute it according to your ancestral tribes. 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, then those whom you leave will become splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will harass you in the land in which you dwell.’ ”

- Numbers 33:1 At the time when the Hebrews were about to settle down in arable lands, it was found useful to make a record of the wilderness journey. Such is the purpose of this schematized list of forty stages, which are a reminder of the forty previous years of nomadic life.
- Numbers 33:35 Ezion-geber is the modern Elath on the Gulf of Aqaba.
- Numbers 33:52 Destroy all of their carved images: just as Israel had conquered the Midianites and eradicated their pagan symbols, the same fate now fell on the land of Canaan.
