중풍병 환자를 고쳐 주시다

(막 2:1-12; 눅 5:17-26)

예수께서는 배를 타고 살고 계시던 자기 마을로 다시 돌아오셨다. 사람들이 한 중풍병자를 들것에 누인 채 예수께 데리고 왔다. 예수께서는 그 사람들의 믿음을 보시고, 중풍병자에게 말씀하셨다. “기운을 내어라, 아들아. 네 죄가 용서함을 받았다.”

그때 율법 선생 몇이 예수의 말씀을 듣고 자기들끼리 수군거렸다. “이 사람은 하나님을 모독하는 말을 하고 있다!” 예수께서는 율법 선생들의 생각을 아시고 말씀하셨다. “어찌하여 너희는 악한 생각을 품느냐? ‘네 죄가 용서되었다’ 는 말과, ‘일어나서 걸어라’ 는 말 가운데, 어느 것이 더 하기 쉬우냐? 사람의 아들에게는 땅에서 죄를 용서할 권세가 있다는 것을 너희에게 보여 주겠다.” 그러고 나서 예수께서는 중풍병자에게 말씀하셨다. “일어나서 네 침대를 거두어 가지고 집으로 가거라.” 그러자 그는 일어나서 집으로 갔다. 이것을 본 사람들이 놀라워하였다. 그들은 사람에게 그런 능력을 주신 하나님을 찬양하였다.

마태(레위)를 부르시다

(막 2:13-17; 눅 5:27-32)

예수께서 그곳을 떠나 길을 가시다가, 마태라는 사람이 세관[a]에 앉아 있는 것을 보셨다. 예수께서 마태에게 “나를 따라오너라.” 하고 말씀하셨다. 그러자 그는 일어나서 예수를 따랐다.

10 예수께서 마태의 집에서 음식을 잡수실 때에, 많은 세무원[b]들과 죄인[c]들이 와서 예수와 예수의 제자들과 함께 음식을 먹게 되었다. 11 바리새파 사람들이 이것을 보고 제자들에게 “어찌하여 당신네 선생님은 세무원들과 죄인들과 함께 어울려 음식을 드십니까?” 하고 물었다.

12 예수께서 이 말을 들으시고 말씀하셨다. “건강한 사람에게는 의사가 필요하지 않다. 의사가 필요한 사람은 병든 사람이다. 13 그러니 가서 성경에 나오는 ‘내가 바라는 것은 희생 제물이 아니라 자비이다’(A) 라는 말씀이 무슨 뜻인지 생각해 보라. 나는 의로운 사람들을 부르러 온 것이 아니라 죄인들을 부르러 왔다.”

여느 종교 지도자들과 다르신 예수

(막 2:18-22; 눅 5:33-39)

14 그때 세례자 요한의 제자들이 예수께 와서 물었다. “저희나 바리새파 사람들은 자주 금식하는데, 왜 선생님의 제자들은 금식하지 않습니까?”

15 예수께서 대답하셨다. “혼인 잔치에서 손님들이 신랑과 함께 있는 동안에 슬퍼할 수 있느냐? 그러나 신랑을 빼앗길 날이 올 것이니, 그때에는 그들도 슬퍼하며 금식할 것이다.

16 낡은 옷에 새 천 조각을 대어 깁는 사람은 없다. 새로 댄 천 조각이 옷을 잡아당겨서, 옷이 더 많이 찢어질 것이기 때문이다. 17 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 붓는 사람도 없다. 그렇게 하면 가죽 부대가 터져서, 포도주가 새고 가죽 부대도 못쓰게 될 것이다. 새 포도주는 새 가죽 부대에 담아야 둘 다 쓸 수 있다.”

죽은 소녀를 살리고, 병든 여인을 고치시다

(막 5:21-43; 눅 8:40-56)

18 예수께서 이 말씀을 하고 계실 때 어떤 회당장[d]이 예수께 왔다. 그는 예수 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 말하였다. “제 딸이 방금 죽었습니다. 그러나 오셔서 그 아이에게 손을 얹어 주시면, 아이가 다시 살아날 것입니다.”

19 예수께서 일어나 제자들과 함께 그 사람을 따라가셨다.

20 마침 그때 열두 해 동안 심하게 피를 흘리는 병을 앓고 있던 여자가, 예수의 뒤로 다가가 옷자락에 손을 대었다. 21 그 여자는 “이분의 옷에 손만 대도 내 병이 나을 것이다.” 라고 생각했던 것이다.

22 예수께서 돌아서서 그 여자를 보시고 말씀하셨다. “딸아, 기운을 내어라. 네 믿음이 네 병을 고쳤다.” 그 순간 여자의 병이 나았다.

23 예수께서 회당장의 집에 이르셔서, 피리 부는 사람들과 떠드는 사람들을 보시고 말씀하셨다. 24 “물러가라! 이 딸아이는 죽은 것이 아니라 자고 있다!” 그러자 사람들은 예수를 비웃기 시작하였다. 25 예수께서는 사람들을 집 밖으로 내보내신 뒤 소녀의 방으로 들어가셨다. 예수께서 소녀의 손을 잡으시자 소녀가 일어났다. 26 이 소문이 곳곳으로 널리 퍼졌다.

더 많은 사람의 병을 고쳐 주시다

27 예수께서 그곳을 떠나 길을 가시는데, 눈먼 사람 둘이 예수를 따라왔다. 그들은 계속 “다윗의 자손[e]이여, 우리를 불쌍히 여겨 주십시오!” 하고 외쳤다.

28 예수께서 집 안으로 들어가시자 눈먼 두 사람이 따라 들어왔다. 예수께서 그들에게 물으셨다. “내가 너희의 눈을 밝게 해 줄 수 있다고 믿느냐?” 그러자 두 사람은 “네, 주님! 믿습니다!” 하고 대답하였다.

29 예수께서 그들의 눈을 만지며 말씀하셨다. “너희 믿음대로 되어라!” 30 그러자 두 사람은 볼 수 있게 되었다. 예수께서는 그들에게 엄히 이르셨다. “결코 다른 사람들에게는 이 일을 알리지 말아라.” 31 그러나 두 사람은 나가서, 예수의 소문을 온 지역에 퍼뜨렸다.

32 두 사람이 떠난 뒤에, 사람들이 귀신 들려 말을 못 하는 사람을 예수께 데리고 왔다. 33 예수께서 귀신을 쫓아내자, 그 사람이 다시 말을 하게 되었다. 사람들은 이것을 보고 놀라 웅성거렸다. “이스라엘에서 여태까지 이런 일을 결코 본 적이 없다.”

34 그러나 바리새파 사람들은 “저 사람은 귀신 두목의 힘을 빌려서 귀신을 내쫓는다.” 라고 하였다.

사람들을 불쌍히 여기시다

35 예수께서 모든 성읍과 마을을 돌아다니며 회당에서 가르치셨다. 또 하늘나라에 관한 기쁜 소식을 선포하시고, 사람들의 온갖 질병과 아픔을 고쳐 주셨다. 36 예수께서 모여든 사람들을 보시고 그들을 불쌍히 여기셨다. 그들이 목자 없는 양처럼 삶에 시달려 지쳐 있었기 때문이다. 37 그래서 제자들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “추수할 것은 많으나 일할 사람이 적다. 38 그러니 추수하는 주인이신 주께 당신의 추수 밭으로 일꾼들을 더 보내 달라고 기도하여라.”

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralytic(A)

So He got into a boat, crossed over, (B)and came to His own city. (C)Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. (D)When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”

But Jesus, (E)knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” And he arose and departed to his house.

Now when the multitudes saw it, they (F)marveled[a] and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

Matthew the Tax Collector(G)

(H)As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.

10 (I)Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with (J)tax collectors and (K)sinners?”

12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: (L)‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, (M)but sinners, [b]to repentance.”

Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting(N)

14 Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, (O)“Why do we and the Pharisees fast [c]often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

15 And Jesus said to them, “Can (P)the [d]friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and (Q)then they will fast. 16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for [e]the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins [f]break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(R)

18 (S)While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” 19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His (T)disciples.

20 (U)And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and (V)touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; (W)your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

23 (X)When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw (Y)the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, (Z)“Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and (AA)took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the (AB)report of this went out into all that land.

Two Blind Men Healed

27 When Jesus departed from there, (AC)two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, (AD)“Son of David, have mercy on us!”

28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, (AE)“See that no one knows it.” 31 (AF)But when they had departed, they [g]spread the news about Him in all that [h]country.

A Mute Man Speaks

32 (AG)As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. 33 And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”

34 But the Pharisees said, (AH)“He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.”

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(A)

Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.(B) Some men brought to him a paralyzed man,(C) lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith,(D) he said to the man, “Take heart,(E) son; your sins are forgiven.”(F)

At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”(G)

Knowing their thoughts,(H) Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man(I) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God,(J) who had given such authority to man.

The Calling of Matthew(K)

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,”(L) he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”(M)

12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a](N) For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”(O)

Jesus Questioned About Fasting(P)

14 Then John’s(Q) disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often,(R) but your disciples do not fast?”

15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them?(S) The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.(T)

16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(U)

18 While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him(V) and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her,(W) and she will live.” 19 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.

20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.(X) 21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”

22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart,(Y) daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.”(Z) And the woman was healed at that moment.(AA)

23 When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,(AB) 24 he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead(AC) but asleep.”(AD) But they laughed at him. 25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.(AE) 26 News of this spread through all that region.(AF)

Jesus Heals the Blind and the Mute

27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”(AG)

28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

“Yes, Lord,” they replied.(AH)

29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”;(AI) 30 and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”(AJ) 31 But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.(AK)

32 While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed(AL) and could not talk(AM) was brought to Jesus. 33 And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”(AN)

34 But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”(AO)

The Workers Are Few

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.(AP) 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them,(AQ) because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.(AR) 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest(AS) is plentiful but the workers are few.(AT) 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
