8 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

8 En aquellos días, cuando de nuevo había una gran multitud que no tenía qué comer, (A)Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo*: 2 Tengo compasión de la multitud porque hace ya tres días que están conmigo y no tienen qué comer(B); 3 y si los despido sin comer a sus casas, desfallecerán en el camino, pues algunos de ellos han venido de lejos. 4 Sus discípulos le respondieron: ¿Dónde podrá alguien encontrar lo suficiente para saciar de pan[a] a estos aquí en el desierto? 5 Y Él les preguntó[b]: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Y ellos respondieron: Siete. 6 Entonces mandó* a la multitud que se recostara en el suelo; y tomando los siete panes, después de dar gracias, los partió y los iba dando a sus discípulos para que los pusieran delante de la gente; y ellos los sirvieron a[c] la multitud. 7 También tenían unos pocos pececillos; y después de bendecirlos(C), mandó que estos también los sirvieran[d]. 8 Todos comieron y se saciaron; y recogieron de lo que sobró de los pedazos, siete canastas(D). 9 Los que comieron eran unos cuatro mil; y los despidió. 10 Y subiendo enseguida a la barca con sus discípulos, fue a la región de Dalmanuta(E).
Los fariseos buscan señal
11 (F)Entonces salieron los fariseos y comenzaron a discutir con Él, buscando de Él una señal[e] del cielo(G) para ponerle[f] a prueba. 12 Suspirando profundamente(H) en su espíritu[g], dijo*: ¿Por qué pide señal[h](I) esta generación? En verdad os digo que no se le dará señal[i] a esta generación. 13 Y dejándolos, se embarcó otra vez y se fue al otro lado.
La levadura de los fariseos
14 Y se habían olvidado de tomar panes; y no tenían consigo en la barca sino solo un pan. 15 Y Él les encargaba[j] diciendo: ¡Tened cuidado! Guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos(J) y de la levadura de Herodes(K). 16 Y ellos discutían entre sí que no tenían panes. 17 Dándose cuenta Jesús, les dijo*: ¿Por qué discutís que no tenéis pan? ¿Aún no comprendéis ni entendéis? ¿Tenéis el corazón endurecido[k](L)? 18 Teniendo ojos, ¿no veis? Y teniendo oídos, ¿no oís(M)? ¿No recordáis 19 cuando partí los cinco panes entre los cinco mil(N)? ¿Cuántas cestas llenas de pedazos recogisteis? Y ellos le dijeron*: Doce(O). 20 Y cuando partí los siete panes entre los cuatro mil(P), ¿cuántas canastas llenas de los pedazos recogisteis? Y ellos le dijeron*: Siete(Q). 21 Y les dijo[l]: ¿Aún no entendéis(R)?
El ciego de Betsaida
22 Llegaron* a Betsaida(S), y le trajeron* un ciego y le rogaron* que lo tocara(T). 23 Tomando de la mano al ciego, lo sacó fuera de la aldea; y después de escupir(U) en sus ojos y de poner las manos sobre él(V), le preguntó: ¿Ves algo? 24 Y levantando[m] la vista, dijo: Veo a los hombres, pero los veo[n] como árboles que caminan. 25 Entonces Jesús puso otra vez las manos sobre sus ojos, y él miró fijamente y fue restaurado; y lo veía todo con claridad. 26 Y lo envió a su casa diciendo: Ni aun en la aldea entres(W).
La confesión de Pedro
27 (X)Salió Jesús con sus discípulos a las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo(Y); y en el camino preguntó a sus discípulos, diciéndoles: ¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo? 28 Y le respondieron, diciendo: Unos, Juan el Bautista; y otros, Elías; pero otros, uno de los profetas(Z). 29 Él les preguntó de nuevo: Pero vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo? Respondiendo Pedro, le dijo*: Tú eres el Cristo[o](AA). 30 Y Él les advirtió severamente que no hablaran de Él a nadie(AB).
Jesús anuncia su muerte y resurrección
31 (AC)Y comenzó a enseñarles que el Hijo del Hombre debía padecer muchas cosas, y ser rechazado por los ancianos, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y ser muerto, y después de tres días resucitar(AD). 32 Y les decía estas palabras claramente(AE). Y Pedro le llevó aparte y comenzó a reprenderle. 33 Mas Él volviéndose y mirando a sus discípulos, reprendió a Pedro y le dijo*: ¡Quítate de delante de mí[p], Satanás(AF)!, porque no tienes en mente las cosas de Dios, sino las de los hombres.
Condiciones para seguir a Jesús
34 Y llamando a la multitud y a sus discípulos, les dijo: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame(AG). 35 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida[q], la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida[r] por causa de mí y del evangelio, la salvará(AH). 36 Pues, ¿de qué le sirve a un hombre ganar el mundo entero y perder su alma? 37 Pues ¿qué dará un hombre a cambio de su alma? 38 Porque cualquiera que se avergüence de mí y de mis palabras en esta generación adúltera y pecadora, el Hijo del Hombre(AI) también se avergonzará(AJ) de él, cuando venga en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles(AK).

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(A)(B)(C)
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people;(D) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.(E) 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(F) 9 About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(G) 12 He sighed deeply(H) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(I) of the Pharisees(J) and that of Herod.”(K)
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(L) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,”(M) they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”(N)
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(O)
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida,(P) and some people brought a blind man(Q) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(R) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(S) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[a] the village.”
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(U) others say Elijah;(V) and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”(W)
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.(X)
Jesus Predicts His Death(Y)
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man(Z) must suffer many things(AA) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AB) and that he must be killed(AC) and after three days(AD) rise again.(AE) 32 He spoke plainly(AF) about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”(AG) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
The Way of the Cross
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AH) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(AI) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man(AJ) will be ashamed of them(AK) when he comes(AL) in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
