撒种的比喻
4 耶稣又在海边教训人。有许多人到他那里聚集，他只得上船坐下。船在海里，众人都靠近海，站在岸上。 2 耶稣就用比喻教训他们许多道理。在教训之间，对他们说： 3 “你们听啊！有一个撒种的出去撒种。 4 撒的时候，有落在路旁的，飞鸟来吃尽了。 5 有落在土浅石头地上的，土既不深，发苗最快， 6 日头出来一晒，因为没有根，就枯干了。 7 有落在荆棘里的，荆棘长起来，把它挤住了，就不结实。 8 又有落在好土里的，就发生长大，结实有三十倍的，有六十倍的，有一百倍的。” 9 又说：“有耳可听的，就应当听！”
用比喻的因由
10 无人的时候，跟随耶稣的人和十二个门徒问他这比喻的意思。 11 耶稣对他们说：“神国的奥秘只叫你们知道，若是对外人讲，凡事就用比喻， 12 叫‘他们看是看见，却不晓得，听是听见，却不明白；恐怕他们回转过来，就得赦免’。”
解明撒种的比喻
13 又对他们说：“你们不明白这比喻吗？这样怎能明白一切的比喻呢？ 14 撒种之人所撒的就是道。 15 那撒在路旁的，就是人听了道，撒旦立刻来，把撒在他心里的道夺了去。 16 那撒在石头地上的，就是人听了道，立刻欢喜领受， 17 但他心里没有根，不过是暂时的，及至为道遭了患难，或是受了逼迫，立刻就跌倒了。 18 还有那撒在荆棘里的，就是人听了道， 19 后来有世上的思虑、钱财的迷惑和别样的私欲进来，把道挤住了，就不能结实。 20 那撒在好地上的，就是人听道又领受，并且结实，有三十倍的，有六十倍的，有一百倍的。”
21 耶稣又对他们说：“人拿灯来，岂是要放在斗底下、床底下，不放在灯台上吗？ 22 因为掩藏的事没有不显出来的，隐瞒的事没有不露出来的。 23 有耳可听的，就应当听！” 24 又说：“你们所听的要留心。你们用什么量器量给人，也必用什么量器量给你们，并且要多给你们。 25 因为有的，还要给他；没有的，连他所有的也要夺去。”
26 又说：“神的国如同人把种撒在地上， 27 黑夜睡觉，白日起来，这种就发芽渐长，那人却不晓得如何这样。 28 地生五谷是出于自然的，先发苗，后长穗，再后穗上结成饱满的子粒。 29 谷既熟了，就用镰刀去割，因为收成的时候到了。”
芥菜种的比喻
30 又说：“神的国，我们可用什么比较呢？可用什么比喻表明呢？ 31 好像一粒芥菜种，种在地里的时候，虽比地上的百种都小， 32 但种上以后，就长起来，比各样的菜都大，又长出大枝来，甚至天上的飞鸟可以宿在它的荫下。”
33 耶稣用许多这样的比喻，照他们所能听的，对他们讲道。 34 若不用比喻，就不对他们讲；没有人的时候，就把一切的道讲给门徒听。
平静风和海
35 当那天晚上，耶稣对门徒说：“我们渡到那边去吧。” 36 门徒离开众人，耶稣仍在船上，他们就把他一同带去；也有别的船和他同行。 37 忽然起了暴风，波浪打入船内，甚至船要满了水。 38 耶稣在船尾上枕着枕头睡觉。门徒叫醒了他，说：“夫子！我们丧命，你不顾吗？” 39 耶稣醒了，斥责风，向海说：“住了吧！静了吧！”风就止住，大大地平静了。 40 耶稣对他们说：“为什么胆怯？你们还没有信心吗？” 41 他们就大大地惧怕，彼此说：“这到底是谁？连风和海也听从他了！”

21 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrthynt, A ddaw cannwyll i’w dodi dan lestr, neu dan wely? ac nid i’w gosod ar ganhwyllbren? 22 Canys nid oes dim cuddiedig, a’r nis amlygir; ac ni bu ddim dirgel, ond fel y delai i eglurdeb. 23 Od oes gan neb glustiau i wrando, gwrandawed. 24 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrthynt, Edrychwch beth a wrandawoch. A pha fesur y mesuroch, y mesurir i chwithau; a chwanegir i chwi, y rhai a wrandewch. 25 Canys yr hwn y mae ganddo, y rhoddir iddo: a’r hwn nid oes ganddo, ie, yr hyn sydd ganddo a ddygir oddi arno.
26 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Felly y mae teyrnas Dduw, fel pe bwriai ddyn had i’r ddaear; 27 A chysgu, a chodi nos a dydd, a’r had yn egino ac yn tyfu, y modd nis gŵyr efe. 28 Canys y ddaear a ddwg ffrwyth ohoni ei hun; yn gyntaf yr eginyn, ar ôl hynny y dywysen, yna yr ŷd yn llawn yn y dywysen. 29 A phan ymddangoso’r ffrwyth, yn ebrwydd y rhydd efe y cryman ynddo, am ddyfod y cynhaeaf.
30 Ac efe a ddywedodd, I ba beth y cyffelybem deyrnas Dduw? neu ar ba ddameg y gwnaem gyffelybrwydd ohoni? 31 Megis gronyn o had mwstard ydyw, yr hwn pan heuer yn y ddaear, sydd leiaf o’r holl hadau sydd ar y ddaear; 32 Eithr wedi yr heuer, y mae yn tyfu, ac yn myned yn fwy na’r holl lysiau, ac efe a ddwg ganghennau mawrion; fel y gallo ehediaid yr awyr nythu dan ei gysgod ef. 33 Ac â chyfryw ddamhegion lawer y traethodd efe iddynt y gair, hyd y gallent ei wrando: 34 Ond heb ddameg ni lefarodd wrthynt: ac o’r neilltu i’w ddisgyblion efe a eglurodd bob peth.
35 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrthynt y dwthwn hwnnw, wedi ei hwyrhau hi, Awn trosodd i’r tu draw. 36 Ac wedi iddynt ollwng ymaith y dyrfa, hwy a’i cymerasant ef fel yr oedd yn y llong: ac yr oedd hefyd longau eraill gydag ef. 37 Ac fe a gyfododd tymestl fawr o wynt, a’r tonnau a daflasant i’r llong, hyd onid oedd hi yn llawn weithian. 38 Ac yr oedd efe yn y pen ôl i’r llong, yn cysgu ar obennydd: a hwy a’i deffroesant ef, ac a ddywedasant wrtho, Athro, ai difater gennyt ein colli ni? 39 Ac efe a gododd i fyny, ac a geryddodd y gwynt, ac a ddywedodd wrth y môr, Gostega, distawa. A’r gwynt a ostegodd, a bu tawelwch mawr. 40 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrthynt. The Parable of the Sower
4 Again (A)he began to teach beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about him, (B)so that he got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land. 2 And (C)he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: 3 “Listen! Behold, (D)a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. 6 And (E)when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, (F)it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among (G)thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. 8 And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and (H)a hundredfold.” 9 And he said, (I)“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
The Purpose of the Parables
10 And (J)when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 And he said to them, (K)“To you has been given (L)the secret of the kingdom of God, but for (M)those outside everything is in parables, 12 (N)so that
“‘they (O)may indeed see but not perceive,
and may indeed hear but not understand,
lest they (P)should turn and be forgiven.’”
13 (Q)And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 (R)The sower sows (S)the word. 15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. 16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it (T)with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but (U)endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately (V)they fall away.[a] 18 And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, 19 but (W)the cares of (X)the world and (Y)the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and (Z)bear fruit, (AA)thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
A Lamp Under a Basket
21 (AB)And he said to them, (AC)“Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand? 22 (AD)For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light. 23 (AE)If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” 24 And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: (AF)with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. 25 (AG)For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
The Parable of the Seed Growing
26 And he said, (AH)“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; (AI)he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once (AJ)he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
30 (AK)And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? 31 It is like (AL)a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
33 (AM)With many such parables he spoke (AN)the word to them, (AO)as they were able to hear it. 34 He did not speak to them (AP)without a parable, but (AQ)privately to his own disciples he (AR)explained everything.
Jesus Calms a Storm
35 (AS)On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves (AT)were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and (AU)rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and (AV)there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you (AW)so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, (AX)“Who then is this, that even (AY)the wind and the sea obey him?”

A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
