23 那 时 ， 耶 稣 对 众 人 和 门 徒 讲 论 ，
2 说 ： 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 坐 在 摩 西 的 位 上 ，
3 凡 他 们 所 吩 咐 你 们 的 ， 你 们 都 要 谨 守 遵 行 ； 但 不 要 效 法 他 们 的 行 为 ； 因 为 他 们 能 说 ， 不 能 行 。
4 他 们 把 难 担 的 重 担 捆 起 来 ， 搁 在 人 的 肩 上 ， 但 自 己 一 个 指 头 也 不 肯 动 。
5 他 们 一 切 所 做 的 事 都 是 要 叫 人 看 见 ， 所 以 将 佩 戴 的 经 文 做 宽 了 ， 衣 裳 的 ? 子 做 长 了 ，
6 喜 爱 筵 席 上 的 首 座 ， 会 堂 里 的 高 位 ，
7 又 喜 爱 人 在 街 市 上 问 他 安 ， 称 呼 他 拉 比 （ 拉 比 就 是 夫 子 ） 。
8 但 你 们 不 要 受 拉 比 的 称 呼 ， 因 为 只 有 一 位 是 你 们 的 夫 子 ； 你 们 都 是 弟 兄 。
9 也 不 要 称 呼 地 上 的 人 为 父 ， 因 为 只 有 一 位 是 你 们 的 父 ， 就 是 在 天 上 的 父 。
10 也 不 要 受 师 尊 的 称 呼 ， 因 为 只 有 一 位 是 你 们 的 师 尊 ， 就 是 基 督 。
11 你 们 中 间 谁 为 大 ， 谁 就 要 作 你 们 的 用 人 。
12 凡 自 高 的 ， 必 降 为 卑 ； 自 卑 的 ， 必 升 为 高 。
13 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 正 当 人 前 ， 把 天 国 的 门 关 了 ， 自 己 不 进 去 ， 正 要 进 去 的 人 ， 你 们 也 不 容 他 们 进 去 。 （ 有 古 卷 在 此 有
14 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 侵 吞 寡 妇 的 家 产 ， 假 意 做 很 长 的 祷 告 ， 所 以 要 受 更 重 的 刑 罚 。 ）
15 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 走 遍 洋 海 陆 地 ， 勾 引 一 个 人 入 教 ， 既 入 了 教 ， 却 使 他 作 地 狱 之 子 ， 比 你 们 还 加 倍 。
16 你 们 这 瞎 眼 领 路 的 有 祸 了 ！ 你 们 说 ： 凡 指 着 殿 起 誓 的 ， 这 算 不 得 甚 麽 ； 只 是 凡 指 着 殿 中 金 子 起 誓 的 ， 他 就 该 谨 守 。
17 你 们 这 无 知 瞎 眼 的 人 哪 ， 甚 麽 是 大 的 ？ 是 金 子 呢 ？ 还 是 叫 金 子 成 圣 的 殿 呢 ？
18 你 们 又 说 ： 凡 指 着 坛 起 誓 的 ， 这 算 不 得 甚 麽 ； 只 是 凡 指 着 坛 上 礼 物 起 誓 的 ， 他 就 该 谨 守 。
19 你 们 这 瞎 眼 的 人 哪 ， 甚 麽 是 大 的 ？ 是 礼 物 呢 ？ 还 是 叫 礼 物 成 圣 的 坛 呢 ？
20 所 以 ， 人 指 着 坛 起 誓 ， 就 是 指 着 坛 和 坛 上 一 切 所 有 的 起 誓 ；
21 人 指 着 殿 起 誓 ， 就 是 指 着 殿 和 那 住 在 殿 里 的 起 誓 ；
22 人 指 着 天 起 誓 ， 就 是 指 着 神 的 宝 座 和 那 坐 在 上 面 的 起 誓 。
23 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 将 薄 荷 、 茴 香 、 芹 菜 ， 献 上 十 分 之 一 ， 那 律 法 上 更 重 的 事 ， 就 是 公 义 、 怜 悯 、 信 实 ， 反 倒 不 行 了 。 这 更 重 的 是 你 们 当 行 的 ； 那 也 是 不 可 不 行 的 。
24 你 们 这 瞎 眼 领 路 的 ， 蠓 虫 你 们 就 滤 出 来 ， 骆 驼 你 们 倒 吞 下 去 。
25 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 洗 净 杯 盘 的 外 面 ， 里 面 却 盛 满 了 勒 索 和 放 荡 。
26 你 这 瞎 眼 的 法 利 赛 人 ， 先 洗 净 杯 盘 的 里 面 ， 好 叫 外 面 也 乾 净 了 。
27 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 好 像 粉 饰 的 坟 墓 ， 外 面 好 看 ， 里 面 却 装 满 了 死 人 的 骨 头 和 一 切 的 污 秽 。
28 你 们 也 是 如 此 ， 在 人 前 ， 外 面 显 出 公 义 来 ， 里 面 却 装 满 了 假 善 和 不 法 的 事 。
29 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 建 造 先 知 的 坟 ， 修 饰 义 人 的 墓 ， 说 ：
30 若 是 我 们 在 我 们 祖 宗 的 时 候 ， 必 不 和 他 们 同 流 先 知 的 血 。
31 这 就 是 你 们 自 己 证 明 是 杀 害 先 知 者 的 子 孙 了 。
32 你 们 去 充 满 你 们 祖 宗 的 恶 贯 罢 ！
33 你 们 这 些 蛇 类 、 毒 蛇 之 种 阿 ， 怎 能 逃 脱 地 狱 ? 的 刑 罚 呢 ？
34 所 以 我 差 遣 先 知 和 智 慧 人 并 文 士 到 你 们 这 里 来 ， 有 的 你 们 要 杀 害 ， 要 钉 十 字 架 ； 有 的 你 们 要 在 会 堂 里 鞭 打 ， 从 这 城 追 逼 到 那 城 ，
35 叫 世 上 所 流 义 人 的 血 都 归 到 你 们 身 上 ， 从 义 人 亚 伯 的 血 起 ， 直 到 你 们 在 殿 和 坛 中 间 所 杀 的 巴 拉 加 的 儿 子 撒 迦 利 亚 的 血 为 止 。
36 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 这 一 切 的 罪 都 要 归 到 这 世 代 了 。
37 耶 路 撒 冷 阿 ， 耶 路 撒 冷 阿 ， 你 常 杀 害 先 知 ， 又 用 石 头 打 死 那 奉 差 遣 到 你 这 里 来 的 人 。 我 多 次 愿 意 聚 集 你 的 儿 女 ， 好 像 母 鸡 把 小 鸡 聚 集 在 翅 膀 底 下 ， 只 是 你 们 不 愿 意 。
38 看 哪 ， 你 们 的 家 成 为 荒 场 留 给 你 们 。
39 我 告 诉 你 们 ， 从 今 以 後 ， 你 们 不 得 再 见 我 ， 直 等 到 你 们 说 ： 奉 主 名 来 的 是 应 当 称 颂 的 。
24 耶 稣 出 了 圣 殿 ， 正 走 的 时 候 ， 门 徒 进 前 来 ， 把 殿 宇 指 给 他 看 。
2 耶 稣 对 他 们 说 ： 你 们 不 是 看 见 这 殿 宇 麽 ？ 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 将 来 在 这 里 没 有 一 块 石 头 留 在 石 头 上 ， 不 被 拆 毁 了 。
3 耶 稣 在 橄 榄 山 上 坐 着 ， 门 徒 暗 暗 的 来 说 ： 请 告 诉 我 们 ， 甚 麽 时 候 有 这 些 事 ？ 你 降 临 和 世 界 的 末 了 有 甚 麽 豫 兆 呢 ？
4 耶 稣 回 答 说 ： 你 们 要 谨 慎 ， 免 得 有 人 迷 惑 你 们 。
5 因 为 将 来 有 好 些 人 冒 我 的 名 来 ， 说 ： 我 是 基 督 ， 并 且 要 迷 惑 许 多 人 。
6 你 们 也 要 听 见 打 仗 和 打 仗 的 风 声 ， 总 不 要 惊 慌 ； 因 为 这 些 事 是 必 须 有 的 ， 只 是 末 期 还 没 有 到 。
7 民 要 攻 打 民 ， 国 要 攻 打 国 ； 多 处 必 有 饥 荒 、 地 震 。
8 这 都 是 灾 难 （ 灾 难 ： 原 文 是 生 产 之 难 ） 的 起 头 。
9 那 时 ， 人 要 把 你 们 陷 在 患 难 里 ， 也 要 杀 害 你 们 ； 你 们 又 要 为 我 的 名 被 万 民 恨 恶 。
10 那 时 ， 必 有 许 多 人 跌 倒 ， 也 要 彼 此 陷 害 ， 彼 此 恨 恶 ；
11 且 有 好 些 假 先 知 起 来 ， 迷 惑 多 人 。
12 只 因 不 法 的 事 增 多 ， 许 多 人 的 爱 心 才 渐 渐 冷 淡 了 。
13 惟 有 忍 耐 到 底 的 ， 必 然 得 救 。
14 这 天 国 的 福 音 要 传 遍 天 下 ， 对 万 民 作 见 证 ， 然 後 末 期 才 来 到 。
15 你 们 看 见 先 知 但 以 理 所 说 的 那 行 毁 坏 可 憎 的 站 在 圣 地 （ 读 这 经 的 人 须 要 会 意 ） 。
16 那 时 ， 在 犹 太 的 ， 应 当 逃 到 山 上 ；
17 在 房 上 的 ， 不 要 下 来 拿 家 里 的 东 西 ；
18 在 田 里 的 ， 也 不 要 回 去 取 衣 裳 。
19 当 那 些 日 子 ， 怀 孕 的 和 奶 孩 子 的 有 祸 了 。
20 你 们 应 当 祈 求 ， 叫 你 们 逃 走 的 时 候 ， 不 遇 见 冬 天 或 是 安 息 日 。
21 因 为 那 时 必 有 大 灾 难 ， 从 世 界 的 起 头 直 到 如 今 ， 没 有 这 样 的 灾 难 ， 後 来 也 必 没 有 。
22 若 不 减 少 那 日 子 ， 凡 有 血 气 的 总 没 有 一 个 得 救 的 ； 只 是 为 选 民 ， 那 日 子 必 减 少 了 。
23 那 时 ， 若 有 人 对 你 们 说 ： 基 督 在 这 里 ， 或 说 ： 基 督 在 那 里 ， 你 们 不 要 信 ！
24 因 为 假 基 督 、 假 先 知 将 要 起 来 ， 显 大 神 迹 、 大 奇 事 ， 倘 若 能 行 ， 连 选 民 也 就 迷 惑 了 。
25 看 哪 ， 我 预 先 告 诉 你 们 了 。
26 若 有 人 对 你 们 说 ： 看 哪 ， 基 督 在 旷 野 里 ， 你 们 不 要 出 去 ！ 或 说 ： 看 哪 ， 基 督 在 内 屋 中 ， 你 们 不 要 信 ！
27 闪 电 从 东 边 发 出 ， 直 照 到 西 边 。 人 子 降 临 ， 也 要 这 样 。
28 尸 首 在 那 里 ， 鹰 也 必 聚 在 那 里 。
29 那 些 日 子 的 灾 难 一 过 去 ， 日 头 就 变 黑 了 ， 月 亮 也 不 放 光 ， 众 星 要 从 天 上 坠 落 ， 天 势 都 要 震 动 。
30 那 时 ， 人 子 的 兆 头 要 显 在 天 上 ， 地 上 的 万 族 都 要 哀 哭 。 他 们 要 看 见 人 子 ， 有 能 力 ， 有 大 荣 耀 . ， 驾 着 天 上 的 云 降 临 。
31 他 要 差 遣 使 者 ， 用 号 筒 的 大 声 ， 将 他 的 选 民 ， 从 四 方 （ 方 ： 原 文 是 风 ） ， 从 天 这 边 到 天 那 边 ， 都 招 聚 了 来 。
32 你 们 可 以 从 无 花 果 树 学 个 比 方 ： 当 树 枝 发 嫩 长 叶 的 时 候 ， 你 们 就 知 道 夏 天 近 了 。
33 这 样 ， 你 们 看 见 这 一 切 的 事 ， 也 该 知 道 人 子 近 了 ， 正 在 门 口 了 。
34 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 这 世 代 还 没 有 过 去 ， 这 些 事 都 要 成 就 。
35 天 地 要 废 去 ， 我 的 话 却 不 能 废 去 。
36 那 日 子 ， 那 时 辰 ， 没 有 人 知 道 ， 连 天 上 的 使 者 也 不 知 道 ， 子 也 不 知 道 ， 惟 独 父 知 道 。
37 挪 亚 的 日 子 怎 样 ， 人 子 降 临 也 要 怎 样 。
38 当 洪 水 以 前 的 日 子 ， 人 照 常 吃 喝 嫁 娶 ， 直 到 挪 亚 进 方 舟 的 那 日 ；
39 不 知 不 觉 洪 水 来 了 ， 把 他 们 全 都 冲 去 。 人 子 降 临 也 要 这 样 。
40 那 时 ， 两 个 人 在 田 里 ， 取 去 一 个 ， 撇 下 一 个 。
41 两 个 女 人 推 磨 ， 取 去 一 个 ， 撇 下 一 个 。
42 所 以 ， 你 们 要 儆 醒 ， 因 为 不 知 道 你 们 的 主 是 那 一 天 来 到 。
43 家 主 若 知 道 几 更 天 有 贼 来 ， 就 必 儆 醒 ， 不 容 人 挖 透 房 屋 ； 这 是 你 们 所 知 道 的 。
44 所 以 ， 你 们 也 要 预 备 ， 因 为 你 们 想 不 到 的 时 候 ， 人 子 就 来 了 。
45 谁 是 忠 心 有 见 识 的 仆 人 ， 为 主 人 所 派 ， 管 理 家 里 的 人 ， 按 时 分 粮 给 他 们 呢 ？
46 主 人 来 到 ， 看 见 他 这 样 行 ， 那 仆 人 就 有 福 了 。
47 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 主 人 要 派 他 管 理 一 切 所 有 的 。
48 倘 若 那 恶 仆 心 里 说 ： 我 的 主 人 必 来 得 迟 ，
49 就 动 手 打 他 的 同 伴 ， 又 和 酒 醉 的 人 一 同 吃 喝 。
50 在 想 不 到 的 日 子 ， 不 知 道 的 时 辰 ， 那 仆 人 的 主 人 要 来 ，
51 重 重 的 处 治 他 （ 或 作 ： 把 他 腰 斩 了 ） ， 定 他 和 假 冒 为 善 的 人 同 罪 ； 在 那 里 必 要 哀 哭 切 齿 了 。

23 那时，耶稣对群众和他的门徒说： 2 “经学家和法利赛人坐在摩西的座位上， 3 所以凡他们吩咐你们的，你们都要遵行和谨守，但不可效法他们的行为，因为他们只会说而不去作。 4 他们把重担捆起来，压在人的肩头上，但自己连一个指头也不肯动。 5 他们所作的一切，都是要作给人看：他们把经文的匣子做大了，衣服的繸子做长了； 6 他们喜欢筵席上的首位、会堂里的高位； 7 又喜欢人在市中心向他们问安，称呼他们‘拉比’。 8 然而你们不要被人称为‘拉比’，因为只有一位是你们的老师，你们都是弟兄。 9 不要称呼地上的人为父，因为只有一位是你们的父，就是天父。 10 你们也不要被人称为师傅，因为只有一位是你们的师傅，就是基督。 11 你们中间最大的，必作你们的仆人。 12 凡高抬自己的，必被降卑；凡自己谦卑的，必被升高。
13 “虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们在人面前关了天国的门，自己不进去，连正要进去的人，你们也不准他们进去。（有些抄本有第14节：“虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们吞没了寡妇的房产，假装作冗长的祷告，所以你们必受更重的刑罚。”）
15 “虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们走遍海洋陆地，要使一个人入教；当他入了教，你们却使他沦为地狱之子，比你们更甚。
16 “你们这些瞎眼的向导有祸了！你们说：‘凡指着圣所而起的誓，是没有用的；但指着圣所的金子而起的誓，就必须遵守。’ 17 你们这些瞎眼的愚昧人哪，到底是金子大，还是使金子成圣的圣所大呢？ 18 你们又说：‘凡指着祭坛所起的誓，是没有用的；但指着坛上的祭物所起的誓，就必须遵守。’ 19 瞎眼的人哪！到底是祭物大，还是使祭物成圣的祭坛大呢？ 20 所以，凡指着祭坛起誓的，他就是指着祭坛和坛上的一切起誓； 21 指着圣所起誓的，就是指着圣所和住在那里的 神起誓； 22 指着天起誓的，就是指着 神的宝座和坐在宝座上的起誓。
23 “虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们把薄荷、茴香、芹菜，献上十分之一，却忽略律法上更重要的，就如正义、怜悯和信实；这些更重要的是你们应当作的，但其他的也不可忽略。 24 你们这些瞎眼的向导啊，你们把蚊虫滤出来，却把骆驼吞下去。
25 “虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们洗净杯盘的外面，里面却装满了抢夺和放荡。 26 瞎眼的法利赛人哪，先把杯和盘的里面洗净，好使外面也可以干净。
27 “虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们好象粉饰了的坟墓，外面好看，里面却装满了死人的骨头和各样的污秽； 28 照样，你们外面看来像义人，里面却充塞着虚伪和不法。
29 “虚伪的经学家和法利赛人哪，你们有祸了！你们建造先知的墓，修饰义人的碑， 30 并且说：‘我们若活在我们祖先的时代，决不会与他们一同流先知的血。’ 31 这样，你们就指证自己是杀害先知的人的子孙了。 32 那么，去完成你们祖先的罪孽吧！ 33 你们这些蛇，这些毒蛇所生的啊，你们怎能逃脱地狱的刑罚呢？ 34 因此，我差派先知、智慧人和经学家到你们那里；有些你们要杀害又钉在十字架上，有些你们要在会堂里鞭打，从一个城赶逐到另一个城。 35 所以，从义人亚伯的血起，到巴拉加的儿子撒迦利亚的血为止，他就是你们在圣所和祭坛中间所杀的，所有义人在地上所流的血，都要归在你们身上。 36 我实在告诉你们，这一切都必临到这个世代。
为耶路撒冷叹息（参(B)
37 “耶路撒冷，耶路撒冷啊，你杀害先知，又用石头把奉派到你们那里的人打死。我多次想招聚你的儿女，好象母鸡招聚小鸡到翅膀底下，只是你们不愿意。 38 你看，你们的家必成为荒场，留给你们。 39 我告诉你们，从今以后，你们一定见不到我，直等到你们说：‘奉主名来的，是应当称颂的。’”
预言圣殿被毁(C)
24 耶稣出了圣殿，往前走的时候，门徒前来把圣殿的建筑指给他看。 2 他对门徒说：“你们不是看见了这一切吗？我实在告诉你们，将来在这里必没有一块石头留在另一块石头上面，每一块都要拆下来。”
这世代终结的预兆(D)
3 耶稣坐在橄榄山上，门徒暗中前来问他：“请告诉我们，甚么时候会有这些事呢？你的降临和这世代的终结，有甚么预兆呢？” 4 耶稣回答他们：“你们要小心，不要被人迷惑； 5 因为许多人要假冒我的名而来，说：‘我就是基督’，并且要迷惑许多的人。 6 你们要听见战争，也听见战争的风声；你们要小心，不要惊慌，因为这是免不了的，不过结局还没有到。 7 一个民族要起来攻打另一个民族，一个国家要起来攻打另一个国家，到处都有饥荒和地震， 8 这一切不过是痛苦的开始。 9 那时人要把你们送去受苦，也要杀害你们，你们要因我的名被万民恨恶。 10 那时许多人会失去信仰，彼此出卖，互相恨恶； 11 也有许多假先知出现，要迷惑许多人。 12 因为不法的事增加，许多人的爱心就冷淡了。 13 唯有坚忍到底的，必然得救。 14 这天国的福音要传遍天下，向万民作见证，然后结局才来到。
大灾难的日子(E)
15 “当你们看见但以理先知所说的‘那造成荒凉的可憎者’，站在圣地的时候（读者必须领悟）， 16 那时，住在犹太的应当逃到山上； 17 在房顶的不要下来拿家里的东西； 18 在田里的也不要回去取衣服。 19 当那些日子，怀孕的和乳养孩子的有祸了！ 20 你们应当祈求，叫你们逃难的时候，不是在冬天或安息日， 21 因为那时必有大灾难，这是从世界的开始到现在未曾有过的，以后也必不会再有。 22 如果那些日子不减少，没有一个人可以存活；但是为了选民，那些日子必会减少。 23 那时，如果有人对你们说：‘看哪，基督在这里！’或说：‘他在那里！’你们不要信， 24 因为必有假基督和假先知出现，显大神迹和奇事；如果可以的话，他们连选民也要迷惑。 25 你们看！我已经事先告诉你们了。 26 如果他们对你们说：‘看！基督在旷野里。’你们不要出去；或说：‘看！他在内室里。’也不要相信。 27 电光怎样从东方闪出来，一直照到西方，人子降临的时候，也是这样。 28 尸首在哪里，鹰也必聚在哪里。
人子必驾云降临(F)
29 “那些日子的灾难刚过去：
太阳就变黑了，
月亮也不发光，
众星从天坠落，
天上的万象震动。
30 “那时，人子的征兆要显在天上，地上的万族都要哀号，并且看见人子带着能力，满有荣耀，驾着天上的云降临。 31 当号筒发出响声，他要差派使者，把他的选民从四方，从天这边到天那边都招聚来。
32 “你们应该从无花果树学个功课：树枝长出嫩芽生出叶子的时候，你们就知道夏天近了； 33 同样，当你们看见这一切，就知道人子已经近在门口了。 34 我实在告诉你们，这一切都必要发生，然后这世代才会过去。 35 天地都要过去，但我的话决不会废去。
警醒准备(G)
36 “至于那日子和时间，没有人知道，连天上的使者和子也不知道，只有父知道。 37 挪亚的时代怎样，人子降临的时候也是这样。 38 洪水之前的时代，人们吃喝嫁娶，直到挪亚进入方舟的那一天； 39 等到洪水来到，把他们冲去，他们才明白过来；人子降临的时候也是这样。 40 那时，两个人在田里工作，一个被接去，一个撇下来； 41 两个女人在磨坊推磨，一个被接去，一个撇下来。 42 因此，你们要警醒，因为不知道你们的主甚么时候要来。 43 你们都知道，家主若晓得窃贼晚上甚么时候会来，就会提高警觉，不让他摸进屋里。 44 所以，你们也要准备妥当，因为在想不到的时候，人子就来了。
忠心的仆人有福了(H)
45 “谁是忠心和精明的仆人，被主人指派管理全家，按时分派粮食的呢？ 46 主人来到，看见他这样作，那仆人就有福了。 47 我实在告诉你们，主人要指派他管理自己的一切财产。 48 如果他是个坏的仆人，心里说‘我的主人不会那么快回来’， 49 就动手打其他的仆人，又和醉酒的人吃喝。 50 在他想不到的日子，不知道的时间，那仆人的主人要来， 51 严厉地处罚他，使他和虚伪的人同在一起；在那里必要哀哭切齿。”

A Warning Against Hypocrisy(A)(B)
23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law(C) and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.(D)
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see:(E) They make their phylacteries[a](F) wide and the tassels on their garments(G) long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;(H) 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.(I)
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father,(J) and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant.(K) 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.(L)
Seven Woes on the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees
13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!(M) You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.(N) [14] [b]
15 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert,(O) and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell(P) as you are.
16 “Woe to you, blind guides!(Q) You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’(R) 17 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?(S) 18 You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.’ 19 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?(T) 20 Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells(U) in it. 22 And anyone who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it.(V)
23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth(W) of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.(X) You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides!(Y) You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish,(Z) but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.(AA) 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs,(AB) which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
29 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets(AC) and decorate the graves of the righteous. 30 And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.(AD) 32 Go ahead, then, and complete(AE) what your ancestors started!(AF)
33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers!(AG) How will you escape being condemned to hell?(AH) 34 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify;(AI) others you will flog in your synagogues(AJ) and pursue from town to town.(AK) 35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel(AL) to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah,(AM) whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.(AN) 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.(AO)
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,(AP) how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,(AQ) and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate.(AR) 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’[c]”(AS)
The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times(AT)
24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another;(AU) every one will be thrown down.”
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,(AV) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming(AW) and of the end of the age?”(AX)
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(AY) 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(AZ) 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(BA) There will be famines(BB) and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(BC) and put to death,(BD) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(BE) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(BF) will appear and deceive many people.(BG) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(BH) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(BI) will be preached in the whole world(BJ) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(BK) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[d](BL) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(BM) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(BN) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(BO)
22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(BP) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(BQ) 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders(BR) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning(BS) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming(BT) of the Son of Man.(BU) 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.(BV)
29 “Immediately after the distress of those days
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[e](BW)
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[f] will mourn(BX) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,(BY) with power and great glory.[g] 31 And he will send his angels(BZ) with a loud trumpet call,(CA) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[h] is near, right at the door.(CB) 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(CC) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(CD)
The Day and Hour Unknown(CE)(CF)
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[i] but only the Father.(CG) 37 As it was in the days of Noah,(CH) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,(CI) up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.(CJ) 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.(CK) 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.(CL)
42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.(CM) 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,(CN) he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready,(CO) because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant,(CP) whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.(CQ) 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.(CR) 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.(CS) 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(CT)

3 凡 他 们 所 吩 咐 你 们 的 ， 你 们 都 要 谨 守 遵 行 ； 但 不 要 效 法 他 们 的 行 为 ； 因 为 他 们 能 说 ， 不 能 行 。

17 你 们 这 无 知 瞎 眼 的 人 哪 ， 甚 麽 是 大 的 ？ 是 金 子 呢 ？ 还 是 叫 金 子 成 圣 的 殿 呢 ？
18 你 们 又 说 ： 凡 指 着 坛 起 誓 的 ， 这 算 不 得 甚 麽 ； 只 是 凡 指 着 坛 上 礼 物 起 誓 的 ， 他 就 该 谨 守 。

23 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 将 薄 荷 、 茴 香 、 芹 菜 ， 献 上 十 分 之 一 ， 那 律 法 上 更 重 的 事 ， 就 是 公 义 、 怜 悯 、 信 实 ， 反 倒 不 行 了 。 这 更 重 的 是 你 们 当 行 的 ； 那 也 是 不 可 不 行 的 。
24 你 们 这 瞎 眼 领 路 的 ， 蠓 虫 你 们 就 滤 出 来 ， 骆 驼 你 们 倒 吞 下 去 。
25 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 洗 净 杯 盘 的 外 面 ， 里 面 却 盛 满 了 勒 索 和 放 荡 。
26 你 这 瞎 眼 的 法 利 赛 人 ， 先 洗 净 杯 盘 的 里 面 ， 好 叫 外 面 也 乾 净 了 。
27 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 好 像 粉 饰 的 坟 墓 ， 外 面 好 看 ， 里 面 却 装 满 了 死 人 的 骨 头 和 一 切 的 污 秽 。
28 你 们 也 是 如 此 ， 在 人 前 ， 外 面 显 出 公 义 来 ， 里 面 却 装 满 了 假 善 和 不 法 的 事 。
29 你 们 这 假 冒 为 善 的 文 士 和 法 利 赛 人 有 祸 了 ！ 因 为 你 们 建 造 先 知 的 坟 ， 修 饰 义 人 的 墓 ， 说 ：
30 若 是 我 们 在 我 们 祖 宗 的 时 候 ， 必 不 和 他 们 同 流 先 知 的 血 。
31 这 就 是 你 们 自 己 证 明 是 杀 害 先 知 者 的 子 孙 了 。
32 你 们 去 充 满 你 们 祖 宗 的 恶 贯 罢 ！
33 你 们 这 些 蛇 类 、 毒 蛇 之 种 阿 ， 怎 能 逃 脱 地 狱 ? 的 刑 罚 呢 ？
34 所 以 我 差 遣 先 知 和 智 慧 人 并 文 士 到 你 们 这 里 来 ， 有 的 你 们 要 杀 害 ， 要 钉 十 字 架 ； 有 的 你 们 要 在 会 堂 里 鞭 打 ， 从 这 城 追 逼 到 那 城 ，
35 叫 世 上 所 流 义 人 的 血 都 归 到 你 们 身 上 ， 从 义 人 亚 伯 的 血 起 ， 直 到 你 们 在 殿 和 坛 中 间 所 杀 的 巴 拉 加 的 儿 子 撒 迦 利 亚 的 血 为 止 。
36 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 这 一 切 的 罪 都 要 归 到 这 世 代 了 。

24 耶 稣 出 了 圣 殿 ， 正 走 的 时 候 ， 门 徒 进 前 来 ， 把 殿 宇 指 给 他 看 。
2 耶 稣 对 他 们 说 ： 你 们 不 是 看 见 这 殿 宇 麽 ？ 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 将 来 在 这 里 没 有 一 块 石 头 留 在 石 头 上 ， 不 被 拆 毁 了 。
3 耶 稣 在 橄 榄 山 上 坐 着 ， 门 徒 暗 暗 的 来 说 ： 请 告 诉 我 们 ， 甚 麽 时 候 有 这 些 事 ？ 你 降 临 和 世 界 的 末 了 有 甚 麽 豫 兆 呢 ？
4 耶 稣 回 答 说 ： 你 们 要 谨 慎 ， 免 得 有 人 迷 惑 你 们 。
5 因 为 将 来 有 好 些 人 冒 我 的 名 来 ， 说 ： 我 是 基 督 ， 并 且 要 迷 惑 许 多 人 。
6 你 们 也 要 听 见 打 仗 和 打 仗 的 风 声 ， 总 不 要 惊 慌 ； 因 为 这 些 事 是 必 须 有 的 ， 只 是 末 期 还 没 有 到 。
7 民 要 攻 打 民 ， 国 要 攻 打 国 ； 多 处 必 有 饥 荒 、 地 震 。
8 这 都 是 灾 难 （ 灾 难 ： 原 文 是 生 产 之 难 ） 的 起 头 。
9 那 时 ， 人 要 把 你 们 陷 在 患 难 里 ， 也 要 杀 害 你 们 ； 你 们 又 要 为 我 的 名 被 万 民 恨 恶 。
10 那 时 ， 必 有 许 多 人 跌 倒 ， 也 要 彼 此 陷 害 ， 彼 此 恨 恶 ；
11 且 有 好 些 假 先 知 起 来 ， 迷 惑 多 人 。
12 只 因 不 法 的 事 增 多 ， 许 多 人 的 爱 心 才 渐 渐 冷 淡 了 。
13 惟 有 忍 耐 到 底 的 ， 必 然 得 救 。
14 这 天 国 的 福 音 要 传 遍 天 下 ， 对 万 民 作 见 证 ， 然 後 末 期 才 来 到 。
15 你 们 看 见 先 知 但 以 理 所 说 的 那 行 毁 坏 可 憎 的 站 在 圣 地 （ 读 这 经 的 人 须 要 会 意 ） 。
16 那 时 ， 在 犹 太 的 ， 应 当 逃 到 山 上 ；
17 在 房 上 的 ， 不 要 下 来 拿 家 里 的 东 西 ；
18 在 田 里 的 ， 也 不 要 回 去 取 衣 裳 。
19 当 那 些 日 子 ， 怀 孕 的 和 奶 孩 子 的 有 祸 了 。
20 你 们 应 当 祈 求 ， 叫 你 们 逃 走 的 时 候 ， 不 遇 见 冬 天 或 是 安 息 日 。
21 因 为 那 时 必 有 大 灾 难 ， 从 世 界 的 起 头 直 到 如 今 ， 没 有 这 样 的 灾 难 ， 後 来 也 必 没 有 。
22 若 不 减 少 那 日 子 ， 凡 有 血 气 的 总 没 有 一 个 得 救 的 ； 只 是 为 选 民 ， 那 日 子 必 减 少 了 。
23 那 时 ， 若 有 人 对 你 们 说 ： 基 督 在 这 里 ， 或 说 ： 基 督 在 那 里 ， 你 们 不 要 信 ！
24 因 为 假 基 督 、 假 先 知 将 要 起 来 ， 显 大 神 迹 、 大 奇 事 ， 倘 若 能 行 ， 连 选 民 也 就 迷 惑 了 。
25 看 哪 ， 我 预 先 告 诉 你 们 了 。
26 若 有 人 对 你 们 说 ： 看 哪 ， 基 督 在 旷 野 里 ， 你 们 不 要 出 去 ！ 或 说 ： 看 哪 ， 基 督 在 内 屋 中 ， 你 们 不 要 信 ！
27 闪 电 从 东 边 发 出 ， 直 照 到 西 边 。 人 子 降 临 ， 也 要 这 样 。
28 尸 首 在 那 里 ， 鹰 也 必 聚 在 那 里 。
29 那 些 日 子 的 灾 难 一 过 去 ， 日 头 就 变 黑 了 ， 月 亮 也 不 放 光 ， 众 星 要 从 天 上 坠 落 ， 天 势 都 要 震 动 。
30 那 时 ， 人 子 的 兆 头 要 显 在 天 上 ， 地 上 的 万 族 都 要 哀 哭 。 他 们 要 看 见 人 子 ， 有 能 力 ， 有 大 荣 耀 . ， 驾 着 天 上 的 云 降 临 。
31 他 要 差 遣 使 者 ， 用 号 筒 的 大 声 ， 将 他 的 选 民 ， 从 四 方 （ 方 ： 原 文 是 风 ） ， 从 天 这 边 到 天 那 边 ， 都 招 聚 了 来 。
32 你 们 可 以 从 无 花 果 树 学 个 比 方 ： 当 树 枝 发 嫩 长 叶 的 时 候 ， 你 们 就 知 道 夏 天 近 了 。
33 这 样 ， 你 们 看 见 这 一 切 的 事 ， 也 该 知 道 人 子 近 了 ， 正 在 门 口 了 。
34 我 实 在 告 诉 你 们 ， 这 世 代 还 没 有 过 去 ， 这 些 事 都 要 成 就 。
35 天 地 要 废 去 ， 我 的 话 却 不 能 废 去 。
36 那 日 子 ， 那 时 辰 ， 没 有 人 知 道 ， 连 天 上 的 使 者 也 不 知 道 ， 子 也 不 知 道 ， 惟 独 父 知 道 。
37 挪 亚 的 日 子 怎 样 ， 人 子 降 临 也 要 怎 样 。
38 当 洪 水 以 前 的 日 子 ， 人 照 常 吃 喝 嫁 娶 ， 直 到 挪 亚 进 方 舟 的 那 日 ；
39 不 知 不 觉 洪 水 来 了 ， 把 他 们 全 都 冲 去 。 人 子 降 临 也 要 这 样 。
40 那 时 ， 两 个 人 在 田 里 ， 取 去 一 个 ， 撇 下 一 个 。
41 两 个 女 人 推 磨 ， 取 去 一 个 ， 撇 下 一 个 。
42 所 以 ， 你 们 要 儆 醒 ， 因 为 不 知 道 你 们 的 主 是 那 一 天 来 到 。
43 家 主 若 知 道 几 更 天 有 贼 来 ， 就 必 儆 醒 ， 不 容 人 挖 透 房 屋 ； 这 是 你 们 所 知 道 的 。
44 所 以 ， 你 们 也 要 预 备 ， 因 为 你 们 想 不 到 的 时 候 ， 人 子 就 来 了 。

23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law(C) and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.(D)
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see:(E) They make their phylacteries[a](F) wide and the tassels on their garments(G) long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;(H) 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.(I)
8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father,(J) and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant.(K) 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.(L)
Seven Woes on the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees
13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!(M) You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.(N) [14] [b]
15 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert,(O) and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell(P) as you are.
16 “Woe to you, blind guides!(Q) You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’(R) 17 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?(S) 18 You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.’ 19 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?(T) 20 Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells(U) in it. 22 And anyone who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it.(V)
23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth(W) of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.(X) You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides!(Y) You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish,(Z) but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.(AA) 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs,(AB) which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
29 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets(AC) and decorate the graves of the righteous. 30 And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.(AD) 32 Go ahead, then, and complete(AE) what your ancestors started!(AF)
33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers!(AG) How will you escape being condemned to hell?(AH) 34 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify;(AI) others you will flog in your synagogues(AJ) and pursue from town to town.(AK) 35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel(AL) to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah,(AM) whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.(AN) 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.(AO)
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,(AP) how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,(AQ) and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate.(AR) 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’[c]”(AS)
The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times(AT)
24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another;(AU) every one will be thrown down.”
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,(AV) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming(AW) and of the end of the age?”(AX)
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(AY) 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(AZ) 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(BA) There will be famines(BB) and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(BC) and put to death,(BD) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(BE) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(BF) will appear and deceive many people.(BG) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(BH) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(BI) will be preached in the whole world(BJ) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(BK) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[d](BL) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(BM) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(BN) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(BO)
22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(BP) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(BQ) 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders(BR) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning(BS) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming(BT) of the Son of Man.(BU) 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.(BV)
29 “Immediately after the distress of those days
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[e](BW)
30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[f] will mourn(BX) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,(BY) with power and great glory.[g] 31 And he will send his angels(BZ) with a loud trumpet call,(CA) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[h] is near, right at the door.(CB) 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(CC) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(CD)
The Day and Hour Unknown(CE)(CF)
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[i] but only the Father.(CG) 37 As it was in the days of Noah,(CH) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,(CI) up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.(CJ) 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.(CK) 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.(CL)
42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.(CM) 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,(CN) he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready,(CO) because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant,(CP) whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.(CQ) 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.(CR) 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.(CS) 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(CT)
