Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)

10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits(F) and to heal every disease and sickness.(G)

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.(H)

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.(I) Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.(J) As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven(K) has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts(L) 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.(M) 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.(N) 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.(O) 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah(P) on the day of judgment(Q) than for that town.(R)

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.(S) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.(T) 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils(U) and be flogged in the synagogues.(V) 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings(W) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.(X) At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father(Y) speaking through you.

21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents(Z) and have them put to death.(AA) 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me,(AB) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(AC) 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.(AD)

24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.(AE) 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul,(AF) how much more the members of his household!

26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.(AG) 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One(AH) who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.(AI) 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.(AJ)

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(AK) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(AL)

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(AM)
36     a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c](AN)

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(AO) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(AP) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(AQ)

40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me,(AR) and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AS) 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”(AT)

Sa halip, puntahan ninyo ang mga Israelita na parang mga nawawalang tupa. Ipahayag ninyo sa kanila na malapit na[c] ang paghahari ng Dios. Pagalingin nʼyo ang mga may sakit, buhayin ang mga patay, pagalingin ang mga may malubhang sakit sa balat para maituring silang malinis, at palayasin ang masasamang espiritu. Tinanggap ninyo ang kapangyarihang ito nang walang bayad, kaya ipamahagi rin ninyo nang walang bayad. 11 “Sa alin mang bayan o nayon na inyong pupuntahan, humanap kayo ng taong malugod kayong tatanggapin sa kanyang bahay,[e] at makituloy kayo roon hanggang sa pag-alis ninyo. 12 Sa pagpasok ninyo sa tahanang iyon, pagpalain ninyo ang lahat ng nakatira roon. 13 Kung talagang tinatanggap nila kayo, pagpalain ninyo sila. Ngunit kung hindi, huwag nʼyo silang pagpalain. 14 Kung ayaw kayong tanggapin o pakinggan sa isang tahanan o bayan, umalis kayo roon at ipagpag ninyo ang alikabok sa inyong mga paa bilang babala laban sa kanila. 15 Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, sa Araw ng Paghuhukom, mas mabigat na parusa ang tatanggapin nila kaysa sa mga taga-Sodom at Gomora.”

16 “Tandaan ninyo, tulad kayo ng mga tupang sinugo ko sa mga lobo, kaya maging matalino kayo gaya ng mga ahas, at kasing-amo ng mga kalapati. 17 Mag-ingat kayo sa mga tao, dahil dadakpin nila kayo at dadalhin sa hukuman, at hahagupitin nila kayo sa kanilang mga sambahan. 18 Iimbestigahan kayo sa harap ng mga gobernador at mga hari dahil sa pagsunod ninyo sa akin. Magiging pagkakataon ninyo iyon para magpatotoo sa kanila at sa mga hindi Judio ng tungkol sa akin. 19 At kapag dinala kayo sa hukuman, huwag kayong mag-alala kung ano ang sasabihin ninyo o kung paano kayo sasagot, dahil ibibigay ng Dios sa inyo sa sandaling iyon ang sasabihin ninyo. 20 Sapagkat hindi kayo ang magsasalita kundi ang Espiritu ng inyong Ama. Siya ang magsasalita sa pamamagitan ninyo.”

21 Sa panahong iyon, may mga taong ipagkakanulo ang kanilang kapatid para patayin. Ganoon din ang mga ama sa kanilang mga anak, at ang mga anak sa kanilang mga magulang. 22 Kapopootan kayo ng lahat dahil sa pagsunod ninyo sa akin. Ngunit ang mananatiling tapat hanggang wakas ay maliligtas 23 Kapag inuusig kayo sa isang bayan, pumunta kayo sa ibang bayan. Dahil ang totoo, hindi pa man ninyo nalilibot ang lahat ng bayan ng Israel, ako na Anak ng Tao ay babalik na.

24 “Walang mag-aaral na mas higit sa kanyang guro, at walang aliping mas higit sa kanyang amo. 25 Sapat na sa isang mag-aaral na maging katulad ng kanyang guro, at sa alipin na maging katulad ng kanyang amo. Kung akong pinuno ninyo ay tinatawag nilang Satanas,[f] gaano pa kaya kasama ang itatawag nila sa inyong mga tagasunod ko?”

Ang Dapat Katakutan(D)

26 “Kaya huwag kayong matakot sa mga tao. Sapagkat walang natatagong hindi malalantad, at walang lihim na hindi mabubunyag. 27 Ang mga bagay na sa inyo ko lang sinasabi ay sabihin ninyo sa lahat,[g] at ang mga ibinubulong ko sa inyo ay ipamalita ninyo sa mga tao. 28 Huwag kayong matakot sa mga gustong pumatay sa inyo. Ang katawan lang ninyo ang kaya nilang patayin, pero hindi ang inyong kaluluwa. Sa halip, matakot kayo sa Dios, na siyang may kakayahang puksain ang katawan at kaluluwa ninyo sa impyerno. 29 Hindi baʼt napakamura ng halaga ng dalawang maya? Pero wala ni isa man sa kanila ang nahuhulog sa lupa nang hindi ayon sa kagustuhan ng inyong Ama. 30 Mas lalo na kayo, maging ang bilang ng inyong mga buhok ay alam niya. 31 Kaya huwag kayong matakot, dahil mas mahalaga kayo kaysa sa maraming maya.”

Ang Pagkilala kay Cristo(E)

32 “Ang sinumang kumikilala sa akin bilang Panginoon sa harap ng mga tao ay kikilalanin ko rin sa harap ng aking Amang nasa langit. 33 Ngunit ang hindi kumikilala sa akin sa harap ng mga tao ay hindi ko rin kikilalanin sa harap ng aking Amang nasa langit.”

Ang Pagkakahati-hati ng Sambahayan Dahil kay Cristo(F)

34 “Huwag ninyong isipin na naparito ako sa lupa upang magkaroon nang maayos na relasyon ang mga tao. Naparito ako upang magkaroon sila ng hidwaan.[h] 35 Dahil sa akin, kokontrahin ng anak na lalaki ang kanyang ama, at kokontrahin ng anak na babae ang kanyang ina. Ganoon din ang gagawin ng manugang na babae sa kanyang biyenang babae. 36 Ang magiging kaaway ng isang tao ay ang sarili niyang sambahayan.[i]

37 “Ang nagmamahal sa kanyang mga magulang ng higit sa akin ay hindi karapat-dapat sa akin. At ang nagmamahal sa kanyang anak ng higit sa akin ay hindi karapat-dapat sa akin. 38 Ang sinumang ayaw sumunod sa akin dahil natatakot siyang mamatay para sa akin[j] ay hindi karapat-dapat sa akin. 39 Ang taong naghahangad magligtas ng kanyang buhay ay mawawalan nito. Ngunit ang taong nagnanais mag-alay ng kanyang buhay alang-alang sa akin ay magkakaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan.”

Mga Gantimpala(G)

40 “Ang tumatanggap sa inyo ay tumatanggap sa akin, at ang tumatanggap sa akin ay tumatanggap sa nagsugo sa akin. 41 Ang tumatanggap sa isang propeta dahil sa kanyang pagkapropeta ay makakatanggap ng gantimpalang naaayon para sa isang propeta. At ang tumatanggap sa matuwid na tao dahil sa kanyang pagkamatuwid ay makakatanggap ng gantimpalang naaayon para sa matuwid na tao. 42 At ang sinumang magbibigay ng kahit isang basong tubig na malamig sa pinakahamak kong tagasunod ay tiyak na makakatanggap ng gantimpala.”

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

Persecutions Are Coming(W)
