Jesús da de comer a unas cuatro mil personas (Mt 15,32-39)
8 Por aquellos días se reunió otra vez mucha gente. Como no tenían qué comer, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo:
2 — Me da lástima esta gente. Ya hace tres días que están conmigo y no tienen nada que comer. 3 Si los despido y los dejo ir a sus casas en ayunas, van a desfallecer por el camino. Y algunos han venido de lejos.
4 Los discípulos le contestaron:
— Pero ¿de dónde podrá uno sacar pan para dar de comer a todos estos en este lugar apartado?
5 Jesús les preguntó:
— ¿Cuántos panes tienen ustedes?
Ellos contestaron:
— Siete.
6 Jesús dispuso que la gente se sentara en el suelo. Luego tomó los siete panes, dio gracias a Dios, los partió y se los fue dando a sus discípulos para que ellos los distribuyeran. Y los discípulos los distribuyeron entre la gente. 7 Tenían además unos cuantos peces; Jesús los bendijo y mandó que los repartieran. 8 Todos comieron hasta quedar satisfechos, y todavía se recogieron siete espuertas de los trozos sobrantes de pan. 9 Luego Jesús despidió a la multitud, que era de unas cuatro mil personas. 10 A continuación subió a la barca con sus discípulos y se dirigió a la región de Dalmanuta.
Petición de una señal milagrosa (Mt 16,1-4)
11 Llegaron los fariseos y se pusieron a discutir con Jesús. Para tenderle una trampa, le pidieron que hiciera alguna señal milagrosa de parte de Dios. 12 Pero Jesús, suspirando profundamente, dijo:
— ¿Por qué pide esta gente una señal milagrosa? ¡Les aseguro que no se les dará señal alguna! 13 Y, dejándolos, se embarcó de nuevo y pasó a la otra orilla del lago.
El pan y la levadura de los fariseos y de Herodes (Mt 16,5-12)
14 Los discípulos habían olvidado llevar pan. Solamente tenían uno en la barca. 15 Jesús les recomendó:
— Miren, cuídense de la levadura de los fariseos y de Herodes.
16 Los discípulos comentaban unos con otros: “Esto lo dice porque no hemos traído pan”. 17 Pero, dándose cuenta de ello, Jesús les dijo:
— ¿Por qué están comentando que les falta el pan? ¿Tan embotada tienen la mente que no son capaces de entender ni comprender nada? 18 ¡Ustedes tienen ojos, pero no ven; tienen oídos, pero no oyen! ¿Ya no se acuerdan 19 de cuando repartí cinco panes entre cinco mil personas? ¿Cuántos cestos llenos de trozos sobrantes recogieron?
Le contestaron:
— Doce.
20 — Y cuando repartí siete panes entre cuatro mil personas, ¿cuántas espuertas de trozos sobrantes recogieron?
Le contestaron:
— Siete.
21 Y Jesús les dijo:
— ¿Y aún siguen sin entender?
Curación de un ciego en Betsaida
22 Cuando llegaron a Betsaida, le presentaron a Jesús un ciego y le pidieron que lo tocase. 23 Jesús tomó de la mano al ciego y lo condujo fuera de la aldea. Allí le untó los ojos con saliva, puso las manos sobre él y le preguntó:
— ¿Ves algo?
24 El ciego abrió los ojos y dijo:
— Veo a la gente. Son como árboles que andan. 25 Jesús le puso otra vez las manos sobre los ojos, y entonces el ciego comenzó a ver perfectamente. Estaba curado y hasta de lejos podía ver todo con toda claridad. 26 Después Jesús lo mandó a su casa, encargándole que ni siquiera entrase en la aldea.
Declaración de Pedro acerca de Jesús (Mt 16,13-20; Lc 9,18-21)
27 Jesús y sus discípulos se fueron a las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo. Por el camino les preguntó:
— ¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?
28 Ellos contestaron:
— Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías, y otros, que alguno de los profetas.
29 Jesús volvió a preguntarles:
— Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy?
Entonces Pedro declaró:
— ¡Tú eres el Mesías!
30 Pero Jesús les mandó que no hablaran a nadie sobre él.
III.— REVELACIÓN DE JESÚS COMO MESÍAS SUFRIENTE (8,31—16,8)
Hacia Jerusalén (8,31—10,52)
Jesús anuncia por primera vez su muerte y su resurrección (Mt 16,21-23; Lc 9,22)
31 Entonces Jesús empezó a explicarles que el Hijo del hombre tenía que sufrir mucho; que había de ser rechazado por los ancianos del pueblo, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley; que luego lo matarían, pero que al tercer día resucitaría. 32 Les hablaba con toda claridad. Pedro entonces, llevándolo aparte, comenzó a reprenderlo. 33 Pero Jesús se volvió y, mirando a sus discípulos, reprendió a su vez a Pedro, diciéndole:
— ¡Apártate de mí, Satanás! ¡Tú no piensas como piensa Dios, sino como piensa la gente!
34 Luego Jesús convocó a la gente y a sus propios discípulos y les dijo:
— Si alguno quiere ser discípulo mío, deberá olvidarse de sí mismo, cargar con su cruz y seguirme. 35 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; pero el que entregue su vida por mi causa y por la causa de la buena noticia, ese la salvará. 36 Pues ¿de qué le sirve a uno ganar el mundo entero si pierde su propia vida? 37 ¿O qué podrá dar una persona a cambio de su vida? 38 Pues bien, si alguno se avergüenza de mí y de mi mensaje delante de esta gente infiel y pecadora, también el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de él cuando venga rodeado de la gloria de su Padre y acompañado de los santos ángeles.

8 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Feeding the Four Thousand(A)
8 In those days, (B)the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them, 2 “I have (C)compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.”
4 Then His disciples answered Him, “How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?”
5 (D)He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”
And they said, “Seven.”
6 So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude. 7 They also had a few small fish; and (E)having blessed them, He said to set them also before them. 8 So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments. 9 Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. The Pharisees Seek a Sign(G)
11 (H)Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. 12 But He (I)sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, (J)no sign shall be given to this generation.”
Beware of the Leaven of the Pharisees and Herod(K)
13 And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side. 14 (L)Now [a]the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat. 15 (M)Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the [b]leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? (N)Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart [c]still hardened? 18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? 19 (O)When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?”
They said to Him, “Twelve.”
20 “Also, (P)when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?”
And they said, “Seven.”
21 So He said to them, “How is it (Q)you do not understand?”
A Blind Man Healed at Bethsaida
22 Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a (R)blind man to Him, and begged Him to (S)touch him. 23 So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when (T)He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.
24 And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”
25 Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. 26 Then He sent him away to his house, saying, [d]“Neither go into the town, (U)nor tell anyone in the town.”
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ(V)
27 (W)Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”
28 So they answered, (X)“John the Baptist; but some say, (Y)Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered and said to Him, (Z)“You are the Christ.”
30 (AA)Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him.
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection(AB)
31 And (AC)He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be (AD)rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be (AE)killed, and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He (AF)rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not [e]mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him(AG)

Wala silang makain, kaya tinawag ni Jesus ang kanyang mga alagad at sinabi sa kanila, 2 “Nahahabag ako sa maraming taong ito sapagkat tatlong araw ko na silang kasama at walang makain. 3 Kung pauuwiin ko silang nagugutom, mahihilo sila sa daan lalo na't ang iba sa kanila'y nanggaling pa sa malayo.” 4 Sumagot ang kanyang mga alagad, “Saan po dito sa ilang makakukuha ng sapat na pagkain para sa mga taong ito?” 5 “Ilan ba ang tinapay ninyo riyan?” tanong ni Jesus. “Pito,” sagot nila. 6 Pinaupo ni Jesus sa lupa ang mga tao. Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Isang Bulag
22 Pumasok sila sa Bethsaida at dinala sa kanya ang isang lalaking bulag at ipinakiusap na kanyang hipuin. 23 Hinawakan ni Jesus sa kamay ang bulag at inakay palabas ng nayon. Niluraan niya ang mga mata nito, ipinatong ang kanyang mga kamay at tinanong, “Mayroon ka bang nakikita?” 24 Tumingala ang lalaki at nagsabi, “Nakakakita po ako ng mga tao, parang mga punongkahoy na naglalakad.” 25 Muling ipinatong ni Jesus ang kanyang kamay sa mga mata ng lalaki. Iminulat ng lalaki ang kanyang mga mata. Nanumbalik ang kanyang paningin at nakakita na siya nang malinaw. 26 Pinauwi siya ni Jesus at pinagbilinan, “Huwag ka nang pumasok sa nayon.”
Ang Pagpapahayag ni Pedro tungkol kay Jesus(G)
27 Nagtungo si Jesus at ang kanyang mga alagad sa mga nayon ng Cesarea sa Filipos. Habang sila'y nasa daan ay tinanong niya ang kanyang mga alagad, “Ano ang sinasabi ng mga tao kung sino ako?” 28 Sumagot (H) sila, “Sabi ng iba ay si Juan na Tagapagbautismo; sabi naman ng iba'y si Elias, at ng iba'y isa sa mga propeta.” 29 “At kayo, ano ang sinasabi ninyo kung sino ako?” (I) tanong niya sa kanila. Sumagot si Pedro, “Ikaw ang Cristo.”[b] 30 Mahigpit na ipinagbilin ni Jesus sa kanila na huwag sasabihin kaninuman ang tungkol sa kanya.
Unang Pagpapahayag ni Jesus tungkol sa Kanyang Kamatayan(J)
31 Mula noo'y sinimulan niyang ituro sa mga alagad na ang Anak ng Tao ay dapat dumanas ng maraming hirap, at itakwil ng matatandang pinuno, ng mga punong pari, at ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. Siya'y papatayin ngunit pagkaraan ng tatlong araw ay muling mabubuhay. 32 Maliwanag niyang sinabi ang mga ito sa kanila, kaya dinala siya ni Pedro sa isang tabi at sinimulang pagsabihan. 33 Ngunit lumingon si Jesus, tumingin sa mga alagad at pinagsabihan si Pedro, “Lumayas ka sa harapan ko, Satanas! Ang iniisip mo'y hindi galing sa Diyos kundi galing sa tao!” 34 Tinawag (K) ni Jesus ang maraming tao at ang kanyang mga alagad, at sinabi sa kanila, “Sinumang nais sumunod sa akin, tanggihan niya ang kanyang sarili, pasanin ang kanyang krus at sumunod sa akin. 35 Sapagkat (L) sinumang nagnanais magligtas ng kanyang buhay ay mawawalan nito, at ang sinumang mawalan ng kanyang buhay dahil sa akin at sa ebanghelyo ay magkakamit nito. 36 Sapagkat ano ang pakinabang ng tao makamtan man niya ang buong sanlibutan kung mapapahamak naman ang kanyang buhay? 37 Ano ang maibibigay ng tao kapalit ng kanyang buhay? 38 Sinumang ikahiya ako at ang aking salita sa mapakiapid at makasalanang salinlahing ito, ay ikahihiya rin ng Anak ng Tao pagdating niya na taglay ang kaluwalhatian ng kanyang Ama, kasama ang mga banal na anghel.”
