1 我是做上帝和主耶稣基督奴仆的雅各，问候散居各地的十二支派的人。
信心和忍耐
2 我的弟兄姊妹，当你们遭遇各种磨炼的时候，都要认为是喜乐的事。 3 要知道你们的信心经过考验会产生坚忍。 4 你们要坚忍到底，使你们纯全、完备、毫无缺欠。
5 如果你们谁缺少智慧，就当求慷慨施恩、不责备人的上帝，上帝必赐给他智慧。 6-8 但他要凭信心毫不疑惑地祈求，因为疑惑的人三心二意，行事为人没有定见，就像海上随风翻腾的波涛，这种人从主那里什么也得不到。
9 卑微的弟兄高升，应当快乐。 10 富有的弟兄降卑，也要快乐，因为他会像花草一样衰残。 11 骄阳升起，草就干枯，花也凋谢，美丽就消失了。富有的人在忙忙碌碌中也会如此衰残。
12 在试炼中能够忍耐到底的人有福了，因为他若经得起考验，就会得到主应许赐给爱祂之人的生命冠冕。 13 当人受到诱惑时，不可说：“是上帝在诱惑我。”因为上帝不受邪恶的诱惑，也不诱惑人。 14 其实每个受到诱惑的人都是受自己的私欲怂恿和诱惑。 15 私欲怀了胎，便生出罪，罪一旦长成，便带来死亡。
16 我亲爱的弟兄姊妹，不要上当受骗。 17 一切良善的施予和完美的恩赐都是从天上，从众光之父那里来的。祂不像转动的影子变幻无常。 18 祂按照自己的旨意，借着真道重生了我们，使我们在祂所造的万物之中好像初熟的果实。
听道与行道
19 我亲爱的弟兄姊妹，请记住：每个人都要快快地听，慢慢地说，慢慢地动怒。 20 因为人的愤怒不能成就上帝的公义。 21 所以你们要除去所有的污秽和一切的恶习，谦卑地领受那已经栽种在你们心里、能救你们灵魂的真道。
22 你们要行道，不要只是听道，自己欺骗自己。 23 因为人听道而不行道，就像照镜子一样， 24 看过后就走了，随即忘记了自己的容貌。 25 但详细查考那使人得自由的全备律法并且持之以恒的人，不是听了就忘，而是身体力行，这样的人必在他所行的事上蒙福。
26 如果有人自以为虔诚，却不勒住自己的舌头，就等于是自己欺骗自己，他的所谓虔诚也毫无价值。 27 在父上帝看来，纯洁无暇的虔诚是指照顾患难中的孤儿寡妇，并且不让自己被世俗玷污。

1 Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo,
a las doce tribus que se hallan dispersas por el mundo:
Saludos.
Pruebas y tentaciones
2 Hermanos míos, considérense muy dichosos cuando tengan que enfrentarse con diversas pruebas, 3 pues ya saben que la prueba de su fe produce perseverancia. 4 Y la perseverancia debe llevar a feliz término la obra, para que sean perfectos e íntegros sin que les falte nada. 5 Si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios y él se la dará, pues Dios da a todos generosamente sin menospreciar a nadie. 6 Pero que pida con fe, sin dudar, porque quien duda es como las olas del mar, agitadas y llevadas de un lado a otro por el viento. 7 Quien es así no piense que va a recibir cosa alguna del Señor; 8 es indeciso e inconstante en todo lo que hace.
9 El hermano de condición humilde debe sentirse orgulloso de su alta dignidad; 10 y el rico, de su humilde condición. Porque el rico pasará como la flor del campo. 11 El sol, cuando sale, seca la planta con su calor abrasador. A esta se le cae la flor y pierde su belleza. Así se marchitará también el rico en todas sus empresas.
12 Dichoso el que resiste la tentación porque, al salir aprobado, recibirá la corona de la vida que el Señor ha prometido a quienes lo aman.
13 Que nadie al ser tentado diga: «Es Dios quien me tienta». Porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal, ni tampoco tienta él a nadie. 14 Todo lo contrario, cada uno es tentado cuando sus propios malos deseos lo arrastran y seducen. 15 Luego, cuando el deseo ha concebido, engendra el pecado; y el pecado, una vez que ha sido consumado, da a luz la muerte.
16 Mis queridos hermanos, no se engañen. 17 Toda buena dádiva y toda perfecta bendición descienden de lo alto, donde está el Padre que creó las lumbreras celestes, y quien no cambia ni se mueve como las sombras. 18 Por su propia voluntad nos hizo nacer mediante la palabra de verdad, para que fuéramos como los primeros frutos de su creación.
Hay que poner en práctica la palabra
19 Mis queridos hermanos, tengan presente esto: Todos deben estar listos para escuchar, pero no apresurarse para hablar ni para enojarse; 20 pues el enojo de una persona no produce la vida justa que Dios quiere. 21 Por esto, despójense de toda inmoralidad y de la maldad que tanto abunda, para que puedan recibir con humildad la palabra sembrada en ustedes, la cual tiene poder para salvarles.
22 No se contenten solo con oír la palabra, pues así se engañan ustedes mismos. Llévenla a la práctica. 23 El que escucha la palabra, pero no la pone en práctica, es como el que se mira el rostro en un espejo 24 y después de mirarse, se va y se olvida enseguida de cómo es. 25 Pero quien se fija atentamente en la ley perfecta que da libertad y persevera en ella, no olvidando lo que ha oído, sino haciéndolo, recibirá bendición al practicarla.
26 Si alguien se cree religioso, pero no le pone freno a su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo y su religión no sirve para nada. 27 La religión pura y sin mancha delante de Dios nuestro Padre es esta: atender a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones y conservarse limpio de la corrupción del mundo.

1 Greetings from James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
To God’s people[a] who are scattered all over the world.
Faith and Wisdom
2 My brothers and sisters, you will have many kinds of trouble. But this gives you a reason to be very happy. 3 You know that when your faith is tested, you learn to be patient in suffering. 4 If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be.
5 Do any of you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom. 6 But when you ask God, you must believe. Don’t doubt him. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is blown up and down by the wind. 7-8 People like that are thinking two different things at the same time. They can never decide what to do. So they should not think they will receive anything from the Lord.
True Riches
9 Believers who are poor should be glad that God considers them so important. 10 Believers who are rich should be glad when bad things happen that humble them. Their riches won’t keep them from disappearing as quickly as wildflowers. 11 As the sun rises and gets hotter, its heat dries up the plants, and the flowers fall off. The flowers that were so beautiful are now dead. That’s how it is with the rich. While they are still making plans for their business, they will die.
Temptation Does Not Come From God
12 Great blessings belong to those who are tempted and remain faithful! After they have proved their faith, God will give them the reward[b] of eternal life. God promised this to all people who love him. 13 Whenever you feel tempted to do something bad, you should not say, “God is tempting me.” Evil cannot tempt God, and God himself does not tempt anyone. 14 You are tempted by the evil things you want. Your own desire leads you away and traps you. 15 Your desire grows inside you until it results in sin. Then the sin grows bigger and bigger and finally ends in death.
16 My dear brothers and sisters, don’t be fooled about this. 17 Everything good comes from God. Every perfect gift is from him. These good gifts come down from the Father who made all the lights in the sky. But God never changes like the shadows from those lights. He is always the same. 18 God decided to give us life through the true message he sent to us. He wanted us to be the most important of all that he created.
Listening and Obeying
19 My dear brothers and sisters, always be more willing to listen than to speak. Keep control of your anger. 20 Anger does not help you live the way God wants. 21 So get rid of everything evil in your lives—every kind of wrong you do. Be humble and accept God’s teaching that is planted in your hearts. This teaching can save you.
22 Do what God’s teaching says; don’t just listen and do nothing. When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves. 23 Hearing God’s teaching and doing nothing is like looking at your face in the mirror 24 and doing nothing about what you saw. You go away and immediately forget how bad you looked. 25 But when you look into God’s perfect law that sets people free, pay attention to it. If you do what it says, you will have God’s blessing. Never just listen to his teaching and forget what you heard.
The True Way to Worship God
26 You might think you are a very religious person. But if your tongue is out of control, you are fooling yourself. Your careless talk makes your offerings to God worthless. 27 The worship that God wants is this: caring for orphans or widows who need help and keeping yourself free from the world’s evil influence. This is the kind of worship that God accepts as pure and good.

- James 1:12 reward Literally, “wreath,” a ring of leaves or branches that was placed on the head of the winners of athletic contests to honor them. It was a symbol of victory and reward.
