The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Yisroel in the yamim of Uziyah Melech Yehudah, and in the yamim of Yarov‘am ben Yoash Melech Yisroel, two years before the earthquake.

And he said, Hashem roars from Tziyon, and utters His voice from Yerushalayim; and the pastures of the ro’im (shepherds) mourn, and the summit of Mt Carmel withers.

Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Damascus, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gil‘ad with threshing sledges of barzel (iron);

But I will send an eish onto Bais Chatzael, which shall devour the fortresses of Ben-hadad.

I will break down also the gate bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from Bikeat-Aven, and him that holdeth the shevet (sceptre) from Bais Eden; and the people of Aram shall go into golus unto Kir, saith Hashem.

Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Azah (Gaza), even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the golus shleimah (entire exiled population), to deliver them up to Edom;

But I will send an eish on the chomah (wall) of Azah (Gaza), which shall devour the fortresses thereof;

And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the shevet (sceptre) from Ashkelon, and I will turn Mine hand against Ekron; and the she’erit Pelishtim shall perish, saith Adonoi Hashem.

Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Tzor, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the golus shleimah to Edom, and remembered not the brit achim;

10 But I will send an eish on the chomah (wall) of Tzor, which shall devour the fortresses thereof.

11 Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of Edom, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the cherev, and did cast off all rachamim, and his anger did rage perpetually, and he kept his wrath netzach;

12 But I will send an eish upon Teman, which shall devour the fortresses of Botzrah.

13 Thus saith Hashem: For shloshah peysha’im of the Bnei Ammon, even for arba’ah, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped open the women with child of Gil‘ad, that they might enlarge their border;

14 But I will kindle an eish in the chomah (wall) of Rabbah, and it shall devour the fortresses thereof, with war cries in the yom milchamah, with a tempest in the yom sufah (day of the storm);

15 And their melech shall go into golus, he and his sarim (princes) together, saith Hashem.

Amos’ Vision of Yahweh’s Fire

The words of Amos, who was among the (A)sheepherders from (B)Tekoa, which he beheld in visions concerning Israel in the days of (C)Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of (D)Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the (E)earthquake. And he said,

[a](F)Yahweh roars from Zion
And from Jerusalem He gives forth His voice;
And the shepherds’ (G)pasture grounds mourn,
And the [b](H)top of Carmel dries up.”

Thus says Yahweh,

“For (I)three transgressions of (J)Damascus and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron.
So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael,
And it will consume the citadels of (K)Ben-hadad.
I will also (L)break the gate bar of Damascus
And cut off the inhabitant from the [c]valley of Aven
And him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden;
So the people of Aram will go into exile to (M)Kir,”
Says Yahweh.

Thus says Yahweh,

“For three transgressions of (N)Gaza and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because they took away into exile the whole community of exiles
To (O)deliver it up to Edom.
So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza,
And it will consume her citadels.
I will also cut off the inhabitant from (P)Ashdod
And him who holds the scepter from (Q)Ashkelon;
I will even turn My hand against Ekron,
And the remnant of the (R)Philistines will perish,”
Says Lord Yahweh.

Thus says Yahweh,

“For three transgressions of (S)Tyre and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because they delivered up the whole community of exiles to Edom
And did not remember the covenant of [d](T)brotherhood.
10 So I will (U)send fire upon the wall of Tyre,
And it will consume her citadels.”

11 Thus says Yahweh,

“For three transgressions of (V)Edom and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because he (W)pursued his brother with the sword
While he corrupted his compassion;
And his anger also (X)tore continually,
And he kept his wrath forever.
12 So I will send fire upon (Y)Teman,
And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says Yahweh,

“For three transgressions of the sons of (Z)Ammon and for four
I will not turn back its punishment
Because they (AA)ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
In order to (AB)enlarge their borders.
14 So I will kindle a fire on the wall of (AC)Rabbah,
And it will consume her citadels
Amid a (AD)loud shout on the day of battle
And a (AE)storm on the day of tempest.
15 And their (AF)king will go into exile,
He and his princes together,”
Says Yahweh.

Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:

But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.

I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the Lord.

Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:

Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

10 But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.

11 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:

12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:

14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:

15 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the Lord.
