耶和华本为善,在患难的日子为人的保障,并且认得那些投靠他的人。 但他必以涨溢的洪水淹没尼尼微,又驱逐仇敌进入黑暗。

尼尼微人哪,设何谋攻击耶和华呢?他必将你们灭绝净尽,灾难不再兴起。 10 你们像丛杂的荆棘,像喝醉了的人,又如枯干的碎秸全然烧灭。 11 有一人从你那里出来,图谋邪恶,设恶计攻击耶和华。 12 耶和华如此说:“尼尼微虽然势力充足,人数繁多,也被剪除,归于无有。犹大啊,我虽然使你受苦,却不再使你受苦。 13 现在我必从你颈项上折断他的轭,扭开他的绳索。”

14 耶和华已经出令,指着尼尼微说:“你名下的人必不留后。我必从你神的庙中除灭雕刻的偶像和铸造的偶像,我必因你鄙陋使你归于坟墓。”

15 看哪,有报好信传平安之人的脚登山,说:“犹大啊,可以守你的节期,还你所许的愿吧!因为那恶人不再从你中间经过,他已灭绝净尽了。”

耶和華是良善的,
是人患難時的避難所;
祂看顧那些信靠祂的人。
祂必用滔滔洪水滅絕祂的敵人,
把他們驅逐到黑暗中。

尼尼微人啊,
你們為何圖謀抵擋耶和華?
祂要徹底毀滅你們,
無需擊打兩次。
10 你們像糾結的荊棘,
又像酩酊大醉的人,
要如乾稭被火燒盡。
11 你們當中有一個人,
一個邪惡的陰謀者,
圖謀抵擋耶和華。
12 耶和華說:
「儘管尼尼微勢力強大、人口眾多,
但必被剷除,化為烏有。
我的子民啊,我使你們受了苦,
但必不再使你們受苦。
13 現在我要打碎他們套在你們頸項上的軛,
鬆開你們身上的鎖鏈。」
14 尼尼微啊,
耶和華已發出有關你的命令:
「你的名不會傳於後世。
我要摧毀你神廟中雕刻和鑄造的偶像。
我要為你掘好墳墓,
因為你毫無用處。」

15 看啊,
傳喜訊、報平安的人穿山越嶺而來。
猶大啊,
慶祝你的節期,
還你許的願吧!
邪惡之人將不再侵擾你,
他們都將被徹底毀滅。

The Lord is good,(A)
    a refuge in times of trouble.(B)
He cares for(C) those who trust in him,(D)
    but with an overwhelming flood(E)
he will make an end of Nineveh;
    he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.

Whatever they plot(F) against the Lord
    he will bring[a] to an end;
    trouble will not come a second time.
10 They will be entangled among thorns(G)
    and drunk(H) from their wine;
    they will be consumed like dry stubble.[b](I)
11 From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
    who plots evil against the Lord
    and devises wicked plans.

12 This is what the Lord says:

“Although they have allies and are numerous,
    they will be destroyed(J) and pass away.
Although I have afflicted you, Judah,
    I will afflict you no more.(K)
13 Now I will break their yoke(L) from your neck
    and tear your shackles away.”(M)

14 The Lord has given a command concerning you, Nineveh:
    “You will have no descendants to bear your name.(N)
I will destroy the images(O) and idols
    that are in the temple of your gods.
I will prepare your grave,(P)
    for you are vile.”

15 Look, there on the mountains,
    the feet of one who brings good news,(Q)
    who proclaims peace!(R)
Celebrate your festivals,(S) Judah,
    and fulfill your vows.
No more will the wicked invade you;(T)
    they will be completely destroyed.[c]
