治好百夫长的仆人(A)
7 耶稣向群众讲完这一切话，就进了迦百农。 2 有百夫长所重用的一个奴仆，病得快要死了。 3 百夫长听见耶稣的事，就打发犹太人中几个长老到他那里，求他去医治他的奴仆。 4 长老们就来见耶稣，恳切地求他说：“你给他行这事，是他配得的， 5 因为他爱我们的人民，给我们建造会堂。” 6 耶稣就和他们同去。离那家不远的时候，百夫长派几个朋友来说：“主啊，不必劳驾，因为你到舍下来，我实在不敢当， 7 我也觉得没有资格去见你；只要你说一句话，我的仆人就必好了。 8 因为我自己是在别人的权下，也有兵在我以下；我对这个说：‘去！’他就去；对另一个说：‘来！’他就来；对我的仆人说：‘作这个！’他就作。” 9 耶稣听见这些话，就很惊奇，转身对跟随的众人说：“我告诉你们，这样的信心，我在以色列中从来没有见过。” 10 奉派的人回到家里，见那奴仆已经好了。
使拿因城寡妇的儿子复活
11 后来耶稣往拿因城去，与他同去的有门徒和一大群人。 12 他走近城门的时候，有人把一个死人抬出来，是个独生子，他母亲又是个寡妇。城里有一大群人陪着她。 13 主看见了，就怜悯她，对她说：“不要哭！” 14 于是上前按着杠子，抬的人就站住。他说：“青年人，我吩咐你起来！” 15 那死人就坐起来，开口说话，耶稣就把他交给他母亲。 16 众人都惊惧，颂赞 神说：“有伟大的先知在我们中间兴起来了！”又说：“ 神眷顾他的子民了！” 17 于是这话传遍了犹太和周围各地。
约翰派门徒去见耶稣(B)
18 约翰的门徒把这一切事告诉约翰。他就叫了两个门徒， 19 差他们往主那里去，说：“你就是那位要来的，还是我们要等别人呢？” 20 两人来到耶稣跟前，说：“施洗的约翰差我们来问你：‘你就是那位要来的，还是我们要等别人呢？’” 21 就在那时候，耶稣治好许多患疾病的、遭灾难的、身上有污鬼附着的，并且施恩给瞎眼的，使他们看见。 22 耶稣回答他们：“你们回去，把看见和听见的都告诉约翰，就是瞎的可以看见，跛的可以走路，患痲风的得到洁净，聋的可以听见，死人复活，穷人有福音听。 23 那不被我绊倒的，就有福了。”

24 约翰差来的人走了以后，耶稣对群众讲起约翰来，说：“你们到旷野去，是要看甚么？被风吹动的芦苇吗？ 25 你们出去到底要看甚么？身穿华丽衣服的人吗？这些衣服华丽，生活奢侈的人，是在王宫里的。 26 那么，你们出去要看甚么？先知吗？我告诉你们，是的。他比先知重要得多了。 27 圣经所记：
‘看哪，我差遣我的使者在你面前，
他必在你前头预备你的道路’，
这句话是指着他说的。 28 我告诉你们，妇人所生的，没有一个比约翰更大，然而在 神的国里最小的比他还大。” 29 众人和税吏受过约翰的洗礼，听见这话，就称 神为义。 30 但法利赛人和律法师，未受过约翰的洗礼，就拒绝 神对他们的美意。 31 耶稣又说：“我要把这世代的人比作甚么呢？他们好象甚么呢？ 32 他们好象小孩子坐在巿中心，彼此呼叫，说：

33 因为施洗的约翰来了，不吃饭，不喝酒，你们说他是鬼附的。 34 人子来了，又吃又喝，你们说：‘你看，这人贪食好酒，与税吏和罪人为友。’ 35 但 神的智慧，借着他的儿女就证实是公义的了。”

36 有一个法利赛人，请耶稣同他吃饭，他就到法利赛人家去赴席。 37 那城里有一个女人，是个罪人，知道他在法利赛人家里吃饭，就拿着一瓶香膏， 38 站在耶稣背后，挨近他的脚哭，眼泪滴湿他的脚，又用自己的头发擦干，不住地吻他的脚，并且抹上香膏。 39 请他的法利赛人看见了，心里说：“这人若是先知，必定知道摸他的是谁，是怎样的女人，因为她是个罪人！” 40 耶稣对他说：“西门，我有句话要对你说。”他说：“老师，请说。” 41 耶稣说：“一个债主有两个债户，一个欠五百银币，一个欠五十。 42 他们都无力偿还，债主就把两人豁免了。他们之中哪一个更爱他呢？” 43 西门回答：“我想是那个多得恩免的。”耶稣说：“你判断对了。” 44 于是转身向着那女人，对西门说：“你看见这女人吗？我进了你的家，你没有给我水洗脚，但这女人用眼泪湿了我的脚，用头发擦干。 45 你没有和我亲吻；但这女人，自从我进来，就不住地亲我的脚。 46 你没有用油抹我的头；但这女人用香膏抹我的脚。 47 所以我告诉你，她许多罪都蒙赦免了，因为她的爱多；那赦免少的，爱就少。” 48 耶稣就对她说：“你的罪赦免了。” 49 跟他一起吃饭的人心里说：“这是谁，竟然赦罪呢？” 50 耶稣对那女人说：“你的信救了你，平安地去吧！”

7 Nang matapos ni Jesus ang lahat ng kanyang sasabihin sa mga taong nakikinig ay pumasok siya sa Capernaum. 2 Doon ay may isang kapitan ng mga kawal na may aliping maysakit at nasa bingit na ng kamatayan. Ito ay napamahal na sa kanya. 3 Kaya nang marinig ang tungkol kay Jesus, isinugo niya ang ilan sa mga pinuno ng mga Judio upang makiusap kay Jesus na dalawin siya at pagalingin ang kanyang alipin. 4 Sa kanilang pagharap kay Jesus ay pinakiusapan nila ito nang mabuti. 11 Kinabukasan, pumunta si Jesus sa isang bayang kung tawagin ay Nain at sumama sa kanya ang kanyang mga alagad at ang napakaraming tao. 12 Nang malapit na sila sa bungad ng bayan ay naroon at ililibing ang namatay na kaisa-isang anak na lalaki ng kanyang inang balo. Sinabi niya, “Binata, inuutusan kita. Bumangon ka!” 15 Umupo naman ang namatay at nagsimulang magsalita. Ibinigay ito ni Jesus sa kanyang ina. 16 Nabalot ng takot ang lahat at niluwalhati nila ang Diyos sa pagsasabing, “Dumating sa atin ang isang dakilang propeta at dinalaw ng Diyos ang kanyang bayan.” 17 Kumalat sa buong Judea at sa mga nakapaligid na lugar ang balitang ito tungkol sa kanya.

18 Ibinalita kay Juan ng mga alagad nito ang tungkol sa lahat ng mga ito. Kaya't tinawag ni Juan ang dalawa sa kanyang mga alagad 19 at isinugo sila sa Panginoon upang magtanong, “Ikaw na ba ang aming pinakahihintay o maghihintay pa kami ng iba?” 20 Pagdating ng mga lalaking ito kay Jesus ay kanilang sinabi, “Isinugo kami ni Juan na Tagapagbautismo upang magtanong, ‘Ikaw na ba ang aming pinakahihintay o maghihintay pa kami ng iba?’ ” 21 Nang oras na iyon ay marami siyang pinagaling sa karamdaman, sa salot at sa masasamang espiritu. Marami ring bulag na binigyan niya ng paningin. 22 Kaya't sinabi niya sa mga sugo ni Juan, “Humayo kayo at ibalita ninyo kay Juan ang inyong mga nakita at narinig: Nakakakitang muli ang mga bulag, nakalalakad ang mga pilay, gumagaling ang mga ketongin, nakaririnig ang mga bingi, muling nabubuhay ang mga patay, at ibinabahagi sa mahihirap ang mabuting balita. 23 Pinagpapala ang taong hindi mag-aalinlangan sa akin.” 24 Nang makaalis ang mga isinugo ni Juan ay nagsimulang magsabi si Jesus sa mga tao ng tungkol kay Juan, “Ano ang sinadya ninyo sa ilang upang makita? Isang tambo na idinuduyan ng hangin? 25 Ano nga ba ang sinadya ninyo upang makita? Isang lalaking nabibihisan ng magarang damit? Naroon sa palasyo ng mga hari ang mga nakasuot ng magagara at namumuhay nang marangya. 26 Subalit ano nga ba ang sinadya ninyo upang makita? Isang propeta? Oo nga! Sinasabi ko sa inyo, siya'y higit pa sa isang propeta. 27 Siya ang tinutukoy ng Kasulatan,
‘Narito at ipinadadala ko ang aking sugo na mauna sa iyong harapan.
Siya ang maghahanda para sa iyo ng iyong daraanan.’
28 Sinasabi ko sa inyo, walang sinuman sa mga taong isinilang ang higit na dakila kaysa kay Juan, ngunit ang pinakahamak sa kaharian ng Diyos ay mas dakila pa sa kanya.” 29 Ang lahat ng taong nakarinig pati na ang mga maniningil ng buwis ay kumilala sa katuwiran ng Diyos dahil binautismuhan sila ng bautismo ni Juan. 30 Ngunit dahil hindi nagpabautismo sa kanya ang mga Fariseo at ang mga dalubhasa sa Kautusan, tinanggihan nila ang layunin ng Diyos para sa kanila.
31 “Saan ko ngayon maihahambing ang mga tao ng kasalukuyang panahon? Ano ang katulad nila? 32 Tulad nila'y mga batang nakaupo sa pamilihan at nagsasabi sa isa't isa,
‘Tinugtugan namin kayo ng plauta ngunit hindi kayo sumayaw!
Nanaghoy kami ngunit hindi kayo umiyak!’
33 Sapagkat dumating si Juan na Tagapagbautismo na hindi kumakain ng tinapay ni umiinom ng alak, at sinasabi ninyong, ‘Siya ay may demonyo.’ 34 Dumating naman ang Anak ng Tao na kumakain at umiinom at sinabi naman ninyong, ‘Tingnan ninyo ang taong matakaw at manlalasing, at kaibigan ng mga maniningil ng buwis at ng mga makasalanan.’ 35 Gayon pa man, ang karunungan ay pinatutunayang matuwid ng kanyang mga tagasunod.”
Si Jesus sa Tahanan ni Simon na Fariseo
36 Isang Fariseo ang nag-anyaya kay Jesus na kumaing kasalo niya. Pagpasok niya sa bahay ng Fariseo ay umupo siya sa hapag. 37 Isang babaing makasalanan ang nakatira sa lungsod na iyon. At dahil alam nitong kumakain si Jesus doon sa bahay ng Fariseo ay nagdala ito ng pabango sa sisidlang alabastro. 38 Tumayo siyang umiiyak sa likuran sa may paanan ni Jesus, at unti-unting binasá ang mga paa nito ng kanyang luha. Pinunasan niya ang mga ito ng kanyang buhok at pinaghahagkan ang mga paa ni Jesus at pinahiran iyon ng pabango. 39 Nang makita ito ng Fariseo na nag-anyaya sa kanya ay sinabi nito sa kanyang sarili, “Kung propeta nga ang taong ito, dapat ay alam niya kung sino at anong uring babae itong humahawak sa kanya sapagkat ito ay makasalanan.” 40 Kaya sinabi ni Jesus sa kanya, “Simon, mayroon akong sasabihin sa iyo.” “Sige po Guro,” sagot ni Simon. 41 “May dalawang umutang sa isang tao. Ang isa ay umutang ng limandaang denaryo at ang isa naman ay limampu. 42 Nang hindi makabayad, kapwa sila pinatawad. Sino ngayon sa kanila ang higit na magmamahal sa nagpautang?” 43 Sumagot si Simon, “Sa palagay ko po'y ang pinatawad nang mas malaki.” At sinabi niya rito, “Tama ang iyong pagkaunawa.” 44 Pagharap niya sa babae ay sinabi niya kay Simon, “Nakikita mo ba ang babaing ito? Pumasok ako sa iyong bahay at hindi mo man lang ako binigyan ng tubig para sa aking mga paa. Ngunit binasa niya ng luha ang aking mga paa at pinunasan ito ng kanyang mga buhok. 45 Hindi mo ako hinagkan, ngunit mula nang pumasok ako ay hindi pa siya humihinto nang kahahalik sa aking mga paa. 46 Hindi mo binuhusan ng langis ang aking ulo ngunit pinahiran niya ng pabango ang aking mga paa. 47 Kaya't sinasabi ko sa inyo, ang marami niyang mga kasalanan ay pinatawad na; kaya naman nagmahal siya nang higit. 7 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.
26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
31 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

The Faith of the Centurion(A)
7 When Jesus had finished saying all this(B) to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.(C) 8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son(D)
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord(E) saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”(F) 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 They were all filled with awe(G) and praised God.(H) “A great prophet(I) has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”(J) 17 This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.(K)
Jesus and John the Baptist(L)
18 John’s(M) disciples(N) told him about all these things. Calling two of them, 19 he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’”
21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses(O) and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(P) 23 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
24 After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet?(Q) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is the one about whom it is written:
28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God(S) is greater than he.”
29 (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.(T) 30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law(U) rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
31 Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:
“‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not cry.’
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,(V) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(W) 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”

36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet,(Z) he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[c] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,(AA) but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss,(AB) but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head,(AC) but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”(AD)
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you;(AE) go in peace.”(AF)

A Centurion’s Slave Healed
7 After he had finished all his statements in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capernaum. 2 Now a certain centurion’s slave, who was esteemed by him, was sick[a] and[b] was about to die. 3 So when he[c] heard about Jesus, he sent Jewish elders to him, asking him that he would come and[d] cure his slave. 4 And when they[e] came to Jesus, they began imploring[f] him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy that you grant this for him, 5 because he loves our nation and he himself built the synagogue for us.” 6 So Jesus went with them. Now by this time he was not far away from the house, and[g] the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. 7 For this reason neither did I consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word and my slave must be healed. 8 For I also am a man placed under authority, who has soldiers under me, and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another one, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”[h]
9 And when[i] Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning around to the crowd that was following him, he said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith!” 10 And when they[j] returned to the house, those who had been sent found the slave healthy.
A Widow’s Son Raised
11 And it happened that on the next day he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. 12 And as he approached the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, his mother’s only son, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 And when[k] the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, “Do not weep!” 14 And he came up and[l] touched the bier, and those who were carrying it[m] stopped. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and he gave him to his mother. 16 And fear seized them all, and they began to glorify[n] God, saying, “A great prophet has appeared among us!” and “God has visited to help his people!” 17 And this report about him went out in the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.
A Question from John the Baptist
18 And his disciples reported to John about all these things. And summoning a certain two of his disciples, John 19 sent them[o] to the Lord,[p] saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” 20 And when[q] the men came to him, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?’” 21 In that hour he healed many people of diseases and suffering and evil spirits, and he granted sight to many blind people. 22 And he answered and[r] said to them, “Go and[s] tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear;[t] the dead are raised, the poor have good news announced to them.[u] 23 And whoever is not offended by me is blessed.”
24 And when[v] the messengers of John had departed, he began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 25 But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are in splendid clothing and luxury are in the royal palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and even more than a prophet! 27 It is this man about whom it is written:
‘Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you.’[w]
28 I tell you, there is no one greater among those born of women than John, but the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 29 (And all the people, when they[x] heard this[y]—even the tax collectors—affirmed the righteousness of God, because they[z] had been baptized with the baptism of John, 30 but the Pharisees and the legal experts rejected the purpose of God for themselves, because they[aa] had not been baptized by him.)
31 “To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to one another, who say,
‘We played the flute for you and you did not dance;
we sang a lament and you did not weep.’
33 For John the Baptist has come not eating bread or drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a man who is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35 And wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
A Sinful Woman Anoints Jesus’ Feet

One owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty. 42 When[aj] they were not able to repay him,[ak] he forgave the debts[al] of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and[am] said, “I suppose that it is the one to whom he forgave more.” And he said to him, “You have judged correctly.” 44 And turning toward the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house.
