Ang Katanungan tungkol sa Sabbath(A)
6 Minsan isang Sabbath,[a] habang nagdaraan si Jesus sa isang triguhan, namitas ang kanyang mga alagad ng uhay at pagkaligis dito ng kanilang mga kamay ay kinain ang mga ito. 2 Ngunit ilan sa mga Fariseo ang nagsabi, “Bakit ninyo ginagawa ang ipinagbabawal kung Sabbath?” 3 Kaya't sinagot sila ni Jesus, “Hindi ba ninyo nabasa ang ginawa ni David nang magutom siya at ang kanyang mga kasama? 4 Pumasok siya sa bahay ng Diyos, kinuha ang tinapay na ihinandog at kinain ito at ipinamigay pa sa kanyang mga kasama. Hindi ito ipinahihintulot kainin ninuman maliban ng mga pari.” 5 At sinabi niya sa kanila, “Ang Anak ng Tao ay Panginoon ng Sabbath.”
Ang Taong Paralisado ang Kamay(B)
6 Araw din ng Sabbath nang pumasok si Jesus sa sinagoga upang magturo. Naroroon ang isang lalaking paralisado ang kanang kamay. 7 Si Jesus ay minatyagang mabuti ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Fariseo kung magpapagaling siya sa Sabbath. Nagnanais silang may maibintang laban sa kanya. 8 Ngunit alam niya ang kanilang iniisip kaya't sinabi niya sa lalaking paralisado ang kamay, “Halika rito sa gitna.” Tumindig ang lalaki at tumayo nga ito roon. 9 Sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, “Tatanungin ko kayo, dapat bang gumawa ng mabuti o gumawa ng masama sa araw ng Sabbath? Ang magligtas ng buhay o pumuksa?” 10 At pagkalibot ng tingin sa kanilang lahat ay sinabi niya sa lalaki, “Iunat mo ang iyong mga kamay.” Ganoon nga ang ginawa ng lalaki at gumaling ang kanyang kamay. 11 Ngunit nagngitngit sila sa galit at pinag-usapan nila kung ano ang maaari nilang gawin kay Jesus.

12 Nang mga araw na iyon, umakyat sa bundok si Jesus upang manalangin. Magdamag siyang nanalangin sa Diyos. 13 Kinaumagahan, tinawag niya ang kanyang mga alagad at pumili siya sa kanila ng labindalawa na tinawag niyang mga apostol. 14 Ang mga ito ay sina Simon na tinawag niyang Pedro, si Andres na kapatid nito; sina Santiago at Juan; sina Felipe, Bartolome, 15 Mateo, at Tomas; si Santiago na anak ni Alfeo; si Simon na tinawag na Makabayan; 16 si Judas na anak ni Santiago; at si Judas Iscariote, na naging taksil.
Si Jesus ay Nagturo at Nagpagaling ng may Sakit(D)
17 At bumaba si Jesus kasama nila, at tumayo sa isang patag na lugar. Naroon ang malaking pangkat ng kanyang mga alagad at ang napakaraming taong buhat sa buong Judea at sa Jerusalem at sa mga baybaying bayan ng Tiro at Sidon. 18 Pumunta sila roon upang mapakinggan siya at mapagaling sa kanilang mga karamdaman. Pinagaling din niya ang mga pinahihirapan ng maruruming espiritu. 19 Sinikap ng lahat ng tao na mahipo siya sapagkat may kapangyarihang nagmumula sa kanya na nagpapagaling sa lahat.
Ang Mapapalad at ang mga Kahabag-habag(E)
20 At tumingin si Jesus sa kanyang mga alagad, at sinabi niya,
“Pinagpala kayong mga dukha,
sapagkat sa inyo ang kaharian ng Diyos.
21 Pinagpala kayong ngayon ay nagugutom,
sapagkat kayo ay bubusugin.
Pinagpala kayong ngayon ay tumatangis,
sapagkat kayo ay hahalakhak.
22 Pinagpala kayo kung kinapopootan kayo ng mga tao, at kung ipinagtatabuyan kayo at inaalipusta, at kung kinasusuklaman na tila masama ang inyong pangalan dahil sa Anak ng Tao. 23 Magalak kayo sa araw na iyon at lumundag sa kagalakan sapagkat tiyak na malaki ang inyong gantimpala sa langit. Ganoon din ang ginawa ng kanilang mga ninuno sa mga propeta.
24 Subalit kaysaklap ng sasapitin ninyong mayayaman,
sapagkat tinamasa na ninyo ang inyong kaginhawahan.
25 Kaysaklap ng sasapitin ninyong mga busog ngayon,
sapagkat kayo ay magugutom.
Kaysaklap ng sasapitin ninyong tumatawa ngayon
sapagkat kayo ay magluluksa at tatangis.
26 Kaysaklap ng sasapitin ninyo kapag lahat ng tao ay nagsasabi ng mabuti tungkol sa inyo, sapagkat ganoon din ang ginawa ng kanilang mga ninuno sa mga bulaang propeta.”

27 “Subalit sinasabi ko sa inyong mga nakikinig, ibigin ninyo ang inyong kaaway, at gawan ninyo ng kabutihan ang namumuhi sa inyo. 28 Pagpalain ninyo ang sumusumpa sa inyo, at ipanalangin ang mga nang-aapi sa inyo. 29 Kapag may sumampal sa iyo sa pisngi, iharap mo rin ang kabila. Kapag inagaw ang iyong balabal, huwag mong ipagkait ang iyong damit panloob. 30 Bigyan mo ang bawat humihingi sa iyo. At huwag mo nang bawiin pa ang iyong mga ari-arian sa umagaw nito. 31 Gawin mo sa iyong kapwa ang nais mong gawin nila sa iyo. 32 Kung ang mamahalin ninyo ay iyon lang mga nagmamahal sa inyo, ano ang mapapala ninyo? Kahit ang mga makasalanan ay nagmamahal sa nagmamahal sa kanila. 33 Ano ang mapapala ninyo kung gagawa kayo ng mabuti doon lamang sa gumagawa sa inyo ng mabuti? Ganoon din ang ginagawa ng mga makasalanan. 34 Kung kayo'y nagpapautang doon lamang sa mga taong inaasahan ninyong makababayad, ano ang mapapala ninyo? Kahit ang mga makasalanan ay nagpapautang sa inaasahan nilang makapagbabayad. 35 Kaya't mahalin ninyo ang inyong mga kaaway, gumawa kayo ng mabuti, at magpahiram kayo nang hindi umaasa ng kapalit. Malaki ang magiging gantimpala ninyo at kayo ay magiging mga anak ng Kataas-taasan sapagkat siya ay mabait sa mga walang utang na loob at sa masasama. 36 Maging mahabagin kayo gaya ng inyong Ama na mahabagin.”
Ang Paghatol sa Iba(G)
37 “Huwag kayong humatol upang hindi kayo hatulan. Huwag kayong humusga upang hindi kayo mahusgahan. Magpatawad kayo at kayo ay patatawarin. 38 Magbigay kayo at kayo ay bibigyan. Husto ang sukat, siksik, liglig at umaapaw ang ilalagay nila sa inyong kandungan. Sapagkat ang panukat na ginamit ninyo ang siya ring gagamiting panukat sa inyo.” 39 Sinabi pa niya sa kanila ang isang talinghaga, “Maaari bang akayin ng bulag ang kapwa bulag? Hindi kaya sila kapwa mahulog sa hukay? 40 Hindi makahihigit sa kanyang guro ang isang alagad; subalit ang sinumang sinanay nang lubos ay magiging tulad ng kanyang guro. 41 Bakit mo pinapansin ang puwing sa mata ng iyong kapatid gayong hindi mo napapansin ang troso sa iyong mata? 42 Paano mo masasabi sa iyong kapatid, ‘Kapatid, hayaan mong alisin ko ang puwing sa iyong mata,’ gayong ikaw mismo ay hindi nakakakita ng troso sa sarili mong mata? Mapagkunwari! Alisin mo muna ang troso sa iyong mata at makakakita ka nang mabuti sa pag-alis mo ng puwing sa mata ng iyong kapatid.”
Ang Punongkahoy at ang Bunga Nito(H)
43 “Walang mabuting punong namumunga ng masama. Gayon din naman, walang masamang punong namumunga ng mabuti. 44 Bawat puno ay nakikilala sa sarili nitong bunga. Sapagkat hindi makapipitas ng igos sa tinikan ni hindi rin makapipitas ng ubas sa dawagan. 45 Gumagawa ng kabutihan ang mabuting tao dahil sa mabuting kayamanan ng kanyang puso, ngunit ang masamang tao ay gumagawa ng masama dahil sa kanyang kasamaan. Sapagkat mula sa kayamanan ng puso ay nagsasalita ang bibig.”
Ang Dalawang Nagtayo ng Bahay(I)
46 “Bakit ninyo ako tinatawag na ‘Panginoon! Panginoon!’ gayong hindi naman ninyo sinusunod ang inuutos ko? 47 Ipapakita ko sa inyo kung saan maihahalintulad ang lahat ng nagsisilapit sa akin at nakikinig sa aking mga salita at gumagawa nito. 48 Siya ay tulad ng isang taong sa pagtatayo ng kanyang bahay ay naghukay nang malalim at naglagay ng pundasyon sa ibabaw ng bato. Nang dumaan ang baha at humampas sa bahay na iyon ay hindi iyon natinag sapagkat mahusay ang pagkakatayo nito. 49 Ngunit ang nakarinig subalit hindi sumusunod sa mga ito at tulad ng isang taong nagtayo ng kanyang bahay at itinayo ito sa lupang walang pundasyon. Kaya't nang hampasin ito ng agos ay agad na bumagsak. Malaki ang magiging sira ng bahay na iyon.”

Los discípulos recogen espigas en el día de reposo
(Mt. 12.1-8; Mr. 2.23-28)
6 Aconteció en un día de reposo,[a] que pasando Jesús por los sembrados, sus discípulos arrancaban espigas y comían,(A) restregándolas con las manos. 2 Y algunos de los fariseos les dijeron: ¿Por qué hacéis lo que no es lícito hacer en los días de reposo?[b] 3 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: ¿Ni aun esto habéis leído, lo que hizo David cuando tuvo hambre él, y los que con él estaban; 4 cómo entró en la casa de Dios, y tomó los panes de la proposición, de los cuales no es lícito comer sino solo a los sacerdotes,(B) y comió, y dio también a los que estaban con él?(C) 5 Y les decía: El Hijo del Hombre es Señor aun del día de reposo.[c]
El hombre de la mano seca

6 Aconteció también en otro día de reposo,[d] que él entró en la sinagoga y enseñaba; y estaba allí un hombre que tenía seca la mano derecha. 7 Y le acechaban los escribas y los fariseos, para ver si en el día de reposo[e] lo sanaría, a fin de hallar de qué acusarle. 8 Mas él conocía los pensamientos de ellos; y dijo al hombre que tenía la mano seca: Levántate, y ponte en medio. Y él, levantándose, se puso en pie. 9 Entonces Jesús les dijo: Os preguntaré una cosa: ¿Es lícito en día de reposo[f] hacer bien, o hacer mal?, ¿salvar la vida, o quitarla? 10 Y mirándolos a todos alrededor, dijo al hombre: Extiende tu mano. Y él lo hizo así, y su mano fue restaurada. 11 Y ellos se llenaron de furor, y hablaban entre sí qué podrían hacer contra Jesús.
Elección de los doce apóstoles
(Mt. 10.1-4; Mr. 3.13-19)
12 En aquellos días él fue al monte a orar, y pasó la noche orando a Dios. 13 Y cuando era de día, llamó a sus discípulos, y escogió a doce de ellos, a los cuales también llamó apóstoles: 14 a Simón, a quien también llamó Pedro, a Andrés su hermano, Jacobo y Juan, Felipe y Bartolomé, 15 Mateo, Tomás, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón llamado Zelote, 16 Judas hermano de Jacobo, y Judas Iscariote, que llegó a ser el traidor.
Jesús atiende a una multitud

17 Y descendió con ellos, y se detuvo en un lugar llano, en compañía de sus discípulos y de una gran multitud de gente de toda Judea, de Jerusalén y de la costa de Tiro y de Sidón, que había venido para oírle, y para ser sanados de sus enfermedades; 18 y los que habían sido atormentados de espíritus inmundos eran sanados. 19 Y toda la gente procuraba tocarle, porque poder salía de él y sanaba a todos.
Bienaventuranzas y ayes

20 Y alzando los ojos hacia sus discípulos, decía: Bienaventurados vosotros los pobres, porque vuestro es el reino de Dios.
21 Bienaventurados los que ahora tenéis hambre, porque seréis saciados. Bienaventurados los que ahora lloráis, porque reiréis.
22 Bienaventurados seréis cuando los hombres os aborrezcan, y cuando os aparten de sí, y os vituperen, y desechen vuestro nombre como malo, por causa del Hijo del Hombre.(D) 23 Gozaos en aquel día, y alegraos, porque he aquí vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; porque así hacían sus padres con los profetas.(E)
24 Mas ¡ay de vosotros, ricos! porque ya tenéis vuestro consuelo.
25 ¡Ay de vosotros, los que ahora estáis saciados! porque tendréis hambre. ¡Ay de vosotros, los que ahora reís! porque lamentaréis y lloraréis.
26 ¡Ay de vosotros, cuando todos los hombres hablen bien de vosotros! porque así hacían sus padres con los falsos profetas.
El amor hacia los enemigos, y la regla de oro
(Mt. 5.38-48; 7.12)
27 Pero a vosotros los que oís, os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, haced bien a los que os aborrecen; 28 bendecid a los que os maldicen, y orad por los que os calumnian. 29 Al que te hiera en una mejilla, preséntale también la otra; y al que te quite la capa, ni aun la túnica le niegues. 30 A cualquiera que te pida, dale; y al que tome lo que es tuyo, no pidas que te lo devuelva. 31 Y como queréis que hagan los hombres con vosotros, así también haced vosotros con ellos.
32 Porque si amáis a los que os aman, ¿qué mérito tenéis? Porque también los pecadores aman a los que los aman. 33 Y si hacéis bien a los que os hacen bien, ¿qué mérito tenéis? Porque también los pecadores hacen lo mismo. 34 Y si prestáis a aquellos de quienes esperáis recibir, ¿qué mérito tenéis? Porque también los pecadores prestan a los pecadores, para recibir otro tanto. 35 Amad, pues, a vuestros enemigos, y haced bien, y prestad, no esperando de ello nada; y será vuestro galardón grande, y seréis hijos del Altísimo; porque él es benigno para con los ingratos y malos. 36 Sed, pues, misericordiosos, como también vuestro Padre es misericordioso.
El juzgar a los demás
(Mt. 7.1-5)
37 No juzguéis, y no seréis juzgados; no condenéis, y no seréis condenados; perdonad, y seréis perdonados. 38 Dad, y se os dará; medida buena, apretada, remecida y rebosando darán en vuestro regazo; porque con la misma medida con que medís, os volverán a medir.
39 Y les decía una parábola: ¿Acaso puede un ciego guiar a otro ciego? ¿No caerán ambos en el hoyo?(F) 40 El discípulo no es superior a su maestro;(G) mas todo el que fuere perfeccionado, será como su maestro. 41 ¿Por qué miras la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano, y no echas de ver la viga que está en tu propio ojo? 42 ¿O cómo puedes decir a tu hermano: Hermano, déjame sacar la paja que está en tu ojo, no mirando tú la viga que está en el ojo tuyo? Hipócrita, saca primero la viga de tu propio ojo, y entonces verás bien para sacar la paja que está en el ojo de tu hermano.
Por sus frutos los conoceréis

43 No es buen árbol el que da malos frutos, ni árbol malo el que da buen fruto. 44 Porque cada árbol se conoce por su fruto;(H) pues no se cosechan higos de los espinos, ni de las zarzas se vendimian uvas. 45 El hombre bueno, del buen tesoro de su corazón saca lo bueno; y el hombre malo, del mal tesoro de su corazón saca lo malo; porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca.(I)

46 ¿Por qué me llamáis, Señor, Señor, y no hacéis lo que yo digo? 47 Todo aquel que viene a mí, y oye mis palabras y las hace, os indicaré a quién es semejante. 48 Semejante es al hombre que al edificar una casa, cavó y ahondó y puso el fundamento sobre la roca; y cuando vino una inundación, el río dio con ímpetu contra aquella casa, pero no la pudo mover, porque estaba fundada sobre la roca. 49 Mas el que oyó y no hizo, semejante es al hombre que edificó su casa sobre tierra, sin fundamento; contra la cual el río dio con ímpetu, y luego cayó, y fue grande la ruina de aquella casa.

Señor del sábado(A)
6 Un sábado, al pasar Jesús por los sembrados, sus discípulos arrancaron unas espigas de trigo, y las frotaban entre las manos para comérselas. 2 Por eso algunos de los fariseos dijeron:
—¿Por qué hacen ustedes lo que está prohibido hacer en día sábado?
3 Jesús contestó:
—¿Nunca han leído lo que hizo David en aquella ocasión en que él y sus compañeros tuvieron hambre? 4 Entró en la casa de Dios y, tomando los panes consagrados a Dios, comió lo que solo a los sacerdotes les es permitido comer. Y dio también a sus compañeros.
5 Entonces añadió:
—El Hijo del hombre es Señor del sábado.
6 Otro sábado entró en la sinagoga y comenzó a enseñar. Había allí un hombre que tenía la mano derecha paralizada. 7 Así que los maestros de la Ley y los fariseos, buscando un motivo para acusar a Jesús, no le quitaban la vista de encima para ver si sanaba en día sábado. 8 Pero Jesús, que sabía lo que estaban pensando, dijo al hombre de la mano paralizada:
—Levántate y ponte frente a todos.
Así que el hombre se puso de pie. 9 Entonces Jesús dijo a los otros:
—Voy a hacerles una pregunta: ¿Qué está permitido hacer en sábado: hacer el bien o el mal?, ¿salvar una vida o destruirla?
10 Jesús se quedó mirando a todos los que lo rodeaban y dijo al hombre:
—Extiende la mano.
Así lo hizo y la mano quedó restablecida. 11 Pero ellos se enfurecieron y comenzaron a discutir qué podrían hacer contra Jesús.
Los doce apóstoles(B)
12 Por aquel tiempo se fue Jesús a la montaña a orar y pasó toda la noche en oración a Dios. 13 Al llegar la mañana, llamó a sus discípulos y escogió a doce de ellos, a los que nombró apóstoles:
14 Simón (a quien llamó Pedro), su hermano Andrés,
Santiago,
Juan,
Felipe,
Bartolomé,
15 Mateo,
Tomás,
Santiago, hijo de Alfeo,
Simón, al que llamaban el Zelote,
16 Judas, hijo de Santiago,
y Judas, Iscariote, que llegó a ser el traidor.
Bendiciones y lamentos(C)
17 Luego bajó con ellos y se detuvo en un llano. Había allí una gran multitud de sus discípulos y mucha gente de toda Judea, de Jerusalén y de la costa de Tiro y Sidón, 18 que habían llegado para oírlo y para que los sanara de sus enfermedades. Los que eran atormentados por espíritus malignos quedaban liberados; 19 así que toda la gente procuraba tocarlo, porque de él salía poder que sanaba a todos.
20 Él entonces dirigió la mirada a sus discípulos y dijo:
«Dichosos ustedes los pobres,
porque el reino de Dios les pertenece.
21 Dichosos ustedes que ahora pasan hambre,
porque serán saciados.
Dichosos ustedes que ahora lloran,
porque luego habrán de reír.
22 Dichosos serán ustedes cuando los odien,
cuando los discriminen, los insulten y los desprestigien[a]
por causa del Hijo del hombre.
23 »Alégrense en aquel día y salten de gozo, pues miren que les espera una gran recompensa en el cielo. Dense cuenta de que los antepasados de esta gente trataron así a los profetas.
24 »Pero ¡ay de ustedes los ricos,
porque ya han recibido su consuelo!
25 ¡Ay de ustedes los que ahora están saciados,
porque sabrán lo que es pasar hambre!
¡Ay de ustedes los que ahora ríen,
porque sufrirán y llorarán!
26 ¡Ay de ustedes cuando todos los elogien!
Dense cuenta de que los antepasados de esta gente trataron así a los falsos profetas.
El amor a los enemigos(D)
27 »Pero a ustedes que me escuchan les digo: Amen a sus enemigos, hagan bien a quienes los odian, 28 bendigan a quienes los maldicen y oren por quienes los maltratan. 29 Si alguien te pega en una mejilla, vuélvele también la otra. Si alguien te quita la capa, no le impidas que se lleve también la camisa. 30 Dale a todo el que te pida y, si alguien se lleva lo que es tuyo, no se lo reclames. 31 Traten a los demás tal y como quieren que ellos los traten a ustedes.
32 »¿Qué mérito tienen ustedes al amar solamente a quienes los aman? Aun los pecadores lo hacen así. 33 ¿Y qué mérito tienen ustedes al hacer bien a quienes les hacen bien? Aun los pecadores actúan así. 34 ¿Y qué mérito tienen ustedes al dar prestado a quienes pueden corresponderles? Aun los pecadores se prestan entre sí, esperando recibir el mismo trato. 35 Ustedes, por el contrario, amen a sus enemigos, háganles bien y denles prestado sin esperar nada a cambio. Así tendrán una gran recompensa y serán hijos del Altísimo, porque él es bondadoso con los ingratos y malvados. 36 Sean compasivos, así como su Padre es compasivo.
El juzgar a los demás(E)
37 »No juzguen y no se les juzgará. No condenen y no se les condenará. Perdonen y se les perdonará. 38 Den y se les dará: se les echará en el regazo una medida llena, apretada, sacudida y desbordante. Porque con la medida con que midan a otros, se les medirá a ustedes».
39 También les contó esta parábola: «¿Acaso puede un ciego guiar a otro ciego? ¿No caerán ambos en el hoyo? 40 El discípulo no es superior a su maestro, pero todo el que haya completado su aprendizaje será como su maestro.
41 »¿Por qué te fijas en la astilla que tiene tu hermano en el ojo y no le das importancia a la viga que está en el tuyo? 42 ¿Cómo puedes decirle a tu hermano: “Hermano, déjame sacarte la astilla del ojo”, cuando tú mismo no te das cuenta de la viga en el tuyo? ¡Hipócrita!, saca primero la viga de tu propio ojo, y entonces verás con claridad para sacar la astilla del ojo de tu hermano.
El árbol y su fruto(F)
43 »Ningún árbol bueno da fruto malo; tampoco da buen fruto el árbol malo. 44 A cada árbol se le reconoce por su propio fruto. No se recogen higos de los espinos ni se cosechan uvas de las zarzas. 45 El que es bueno, de la bondad que atesora en el corazón produce el bien; pero el que es malo, de su maldad produce el mal, porque de lo que abunda en el corazón habla la boca.
El prudente y el insensato(G)
46 »¿Por qué me llaman ustedes “Señor, Señor”, y no hacen lo que les digo? 47 Voy a decirles a quién se parece todo el que viene a mí, oye mis palabras y las pone en práctica: 48 Se parece a un hombre que al construir una casa cavó bien hondo y puso el cimiento sobre la roca. De manera que cuando vino una inundación, el torrente azotó aquella casa, pero no pudo ni siquiera hacerla tambalear porque estaba bien construida. 49 Pero el que oye mis palabras y no las pone en práctica se parece a un hombre que construyó una casa sobre tierra y sin cimientos. Tan pronto como la azotó el torrente, la casa se derrumbó y el desastre fue terrible».

6 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.(B) 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(C)
3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(D) 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat.(E) And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man(F) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6 On another Sabbath(G) he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(H) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.(I) 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking(J) and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious(K) and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
The Twelve Apostles(L)
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.(M) 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:(N) 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew,(O) Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Blessings and Woes(P)
17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,(Q) 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him,(R) because power was coming from him and healing them all.(S)
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.(T)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.(U)
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.(V)
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you(W) and insult you(X)
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.(Y)
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,(Z) because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.(AA)
24 “But woe to you who are rich,(AB)
for you have already received your comfort.(AC)
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.(AD)
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.(AE)
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.(AF)
Love for Enemies(AG)
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,(AH) 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(AI) 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.(AJ) 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.(AK)
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?(AL) Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?(AM) Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them,(AN) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children(AO) of the Most High,(AP) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful,(AQ) just as your Father(AR) is merciful.
Judging Others(AS)
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(AT) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(AU) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(AV) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(AW)
39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?(AX) 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.(AY)
41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit(AZ)
43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.(BA) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.(BB)
The Wise and Foolish Builders(BC)
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’(BD) and do not do what I say?(BE) 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,(BF) I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
