耶稣受试探
4 耶稣被圣灵充满，从约旦河回来后，随圣灵的引导来到旷野， 2 在那里受魔鬼的试探四十天。那些日子耶稣什么也没吃。那段日子过后，祂饿了。 3 魔鬼对祂说：“如果你是上帝的儿子，可以把这块石头变成食物来吃啊。”
4 耶稣回答说：“圣经上说，‘人活着不是单靠食物。’”
5 魔鬼又带祂上到高处，顷刻间把天下万国展示给祂看， 6 又说：“我要把这一切权势和荣耀都给你，因为这一切全交给我了，我想给谁就给谁。 7 所以如果你向我下拜，这一切就是你的了。”
8 耶稣回答说：“圣经上说，‘要敬拜主——你的上帝，单单事奉祂。’”
9 魔鬼又带耶稣到耶路撒冷，让祂站在圣殿的最高处，说：“如果你是上帝的儿子，就从这里跳下去吧， 10 因为圣经上说，‘上帝会吩咐祂的天使保护你， 11 他们会用手托住你，不让你的脚碰在石头上。’”
12 耶稣回答说：“圣经上说，‘不可试探主——你的上帝。’”
13 魔鬼用尽各样的试探后，暂时离开了耶稣。
拿撒勒人厌弃耶稣
14 耶稣带着圣灵的能力回到加利利，祂的名声传遍了周围地区。 15 祂在各会堂里教导人，大家都称赞祂。
16 祂来到自己长大的地方拿撒勒，照常在安息日进会堂，并站起来诵读圣经。 17 有人把以赛亚先知书递给祂，祂打开书卷，找到这样一段经文：
18 “主的灵在我身上，
因为祂膏立了我，
让我传福音给贫穷的人，
差遣我宣告被掳的人得释放、
瞎眼的人得见光明、
受欺压的人得自由，
19 又宣告上帝悦纳人的恩年已经来临。”
20 耶稣读完便收好书卷，还给负责的人，然后坐下。会堂里的人都把目光集中在祂身上。
21 祂就对他们说：“你们刚才听见的这段经文今天已经应验了。”
22 大家都称赞祂，听见祂那些充满恩典的话，都感到惊奇，就说：“这不是约瑟的儿子吗？”
23 耶稣对他们说：“你们肯定会把这句俗话用在我身上，说，‘医生啊，治好你自己吧！你在迦百农所行的一切，我们都听说了，也在你家乡行给我们看吧！’ 24 可是我实在告诉你们，先知在自己的家乡都是不受欢迎的。 25 事实上，在以利亚先知的时代，天干旱无雨达三年半之久，遍地有大饥荒。那时，以色列国有许多寡妇， 26 但以利亚并没有奉命去帮助她们任何人，只奉命去帮助住在西顿地区撒勒法的一个寡妇。 27 在以利沙先知的时代，以色列国有许多患麻风病的人，但没有一个人得到医治，反而叙利亚的乃缦得到了医治。”
28 会堂里的人听了这些话都怒火中烧， 29 就起来把耶稣赶出城外，带到悬崖边，要把祂推下去。他们的城就坐落在山上。 30 耶稣却从他们中间穿过，离开了那里。
加利利赶鬼医病
31 耶稣下到加利利的迦百农镇，在安息日教导众人。 32 听众对祂的教导感到惊奇，因为祂的话里充满权柄。
33 在会堂里有一个被污鬼附身的人高声喊叫： 34 “唉！拿撒勒的耶稣啊，我们和你有什么关系？你是来毁灭我们吗？我知道你是谁，你是上帝的圣者！”
35 耶稣责备它说：“住口！从他身上出来！”污鬼当场把那人摔倒，然后从他身上离开了，丝毫没有伤害他。
36 大家都很惊讶，彼此议论说：“这是怎么回事？祂的话竟然带着权柄和能力，一吩咐污鬼，它们就出来了！”
37 耶稣的名声传遍了周围地区。
耶稣医治许多人
38 祂离开会堂，到了西门的家。那时，西门的岳母正在发高烧，众人就求耶稣医治她。
39 耶稣站在她旁边，斥责热病，热病就退了，她便立刻起来服侍他们。
40 到了黄昏，人们把患各种疾病的人带到耶稣面前。耶稣把手按在病人身上，一一治好他们， 41 并赶出许多附在人身上的鬼。那些鬼喊叫着：“你是上帝的儿子！”耶稣却斥责它们，不许它们说话，因为它们知道祂是基督。
42 黎明时，耶稣退到一处僻静的地方。众人四处找祂，找到后想留住祂，不让祂离开。 43 但耶稣对他们说：“我必须把上帝国的福音传到其他的城镇去，因为我是为此而被差来的。” 44 于是耶稣继续在加利利[a]各会堂里传道。
呼召门徒
5 一天，耶稣站在革尼撒勒湖边，众人团团围着祂，要听上帝的道。 2 祂看见湖边停着两条船，渔夫离了船正在洗网， 3 就上了西门的那条船，请西门把船稍微划离岸边，然后坐在船上教导众人。 4 耶稣讲完之后对西门说：“把船划到水深的地方去撒网捕鱼。”
5 西门说：“老师，我们劳碌了一整夜，一无所获，但既然你这样吩咐，我就照你的话做。” 6 他们把网撒下去，果然捕获很多鱼，差点把网撑破了， 7 于是招呼另一条船上的同伴来帮忙。他们一起把两条船都装满了鱼，船几乎要沉下去了。
8 西门·彼得见状，便跪倒在耶稣膝前说：“主啊，离开我，我是个罪人！” 9 他和所有同伴们对捕到这么多鱼感到非常惊讶， 10 包括西庇太的两个儿子雅各和约翰。耶稣对西门说：“不要怕，从今以后，你将成为得人的渔夫。” 11 于是他们把船靠岸后，撇下一切跟从了耶稣。
洁净麻风病人
12 有一次，耶稣在一个小镇遇见一个浑身患麻风病的人，那人一看见耶稣，就俯伏在地上恳求说：“主啊，如果你肯，一定能使我洁净。”
13 耶稣伸手摸他，说：“我肯，你洁净了吧！”他身上的麻风病立刻消失了。
14 耶稣又嘱咐他：“不要把这事告诉别人，要去让祭司察看你的身体，照摩西的规定献上祭物，向众人证明你已经洁净了。”
15 结果耶稣的名声传得更广了，成群的人聚集到祂那里听祂讲道、求祂医病。 16 不过，祂还是常常退到旷野去祷告。
叫瘫子行走
17 有一天，耶稣在教导人，旁边坐着来自加利利、犹太和耶路撒冷各地的法利赛人和律法教师，主的能力伴随着耶稣，使祂能医治病人。
18 有人用担架抬着一个瘫痪的人想进到屋里，把他放在耶稣面前。 19 可是人太挤了，无法进去，他们就爬上屋顶，掀开瓦片，把那病人连人带担架缒到耶稣面前。 20 耶稣看见他们那么有信心，就对瘫子说：“朋友，你的罪得到赦免了！”
21 那些法利赛人和律法教师开始议论起来：“这个说话亵渎上帝的人是谁啊？除了上帝以外，谁能够赦罪？”
22 耶稣知道他们的想法，就问：“你们为什么心里议论呢？ 23 说‘你的罪得到赦免了’容易呢，还是说‘你起来行走’容易呢？ 24 如今我要让你们知道人子在世上有赦罪的权柄。”于是对瘫子说：“我吩咐你起来！收拾你的担架回家去吧。”
25 那人立刻当众站了起来，拿起他躺卧的担架回家去了，不住地赞美上帝。 26 众人都十分惊奇，一同赞美上帝，心里充满了敬畏，说：“今天我们看到神迹了！”
呼召利未
27 后来耶稣外出时，看见一个名叫利未的税吏坐在收税站里，就对他说：“跟从我！” 28 利未就起来，撇下一切跟从了耶稣。
29 随后，他在家设宴款待耶稣，赴宴的人中有许多税吏和其他人。 30 法利赛人和律法教师就向耶稣的门徒抱怨说：“你们为什么跟税吏和罪人一起吃喝呢？”
31 耶稣答道：“健康的人不需要医生，有病的人才需要。 32 我来不是要召义人悔改，乃是召罪人悔改。”
论禁食
33 他们说：“约翰的门徒常常禁食祷告，法利赛人的门徒也是一样，可是你的门徒却又吃又喝。”
34 耶稣说：“新郎还跟宾客在一起的时候，岂能让宾客禁食？ 35 但有一天新郎将被带走，那时他们就要禁食了。” 36 耶稣又给他们讲了一个比喻，说：“没有人会从新衣服上撕下一块布来，补在旧衣服上。否则，不但新衣服撕破了，旧衣服和新补丁也不相称。 37 同样，没有人把新酒装进旧皮囊里，否则新酒会把旧皮囊胀破，酒也漏了，皮囊也毁了。 38 所以新酒一定要装在新皮囊里。 39 但是，没有人喝过陈年老酒后，还愿意喝新酒，因为他会说，‘还是陈年老酒好。’”
安息日的主
6 有一个安息日，耶稣和门徒走过一片麦田，门徒随手摘下一些麦穗搓了吃。 2 有些法利赛人说：“你们为什么做在安息日不准做的事？”
3 耶稣答道：“你们没有读过大卫的事吗？有一天，大卫和他的部下饿了， 4 他进入上帝的殿，拿了献给上帝的供饼。这饼只有祭司才可以吃，大卫不但自己吃了，还分给他的部下吃。” 5 耶稣又对他们说：“人子是安息日的主。”
6 又有一个安息日，耶稣进入会堂教导人，座中有一个右手萎缩的人。 7 律法教师和法利赛人密切地监视耶稣，看祂会不会在安息日医治病人，好找个借口控告祂。 8 耶稣知道他们的心思，就对那个右手萎缩的人说：“起来，站在大家面前！”那人就起来站在那里。
9 耶稣问众人：“我问你们，在安息日应该行善呢，还是作恶呢？救人呢，还是害人呢？” 10 祂环视众人，然后对那人说：“把手伸出来！”那人的手一伸就复原了。
11 但法利赛人和律法教师却怒火中烧，开始商议对付耶稣的办法。
拣选十二使徒
12 一天，耶稣到山上整夜向上帝祷告。 13 天明时分，祂召集门徒，从中选出十二人立为使徒。 14 他们是：西门——耶稣给他取名叫彼得、西门的兄弟安得烈、雅各、约翰、腓力、巴多罗买、 15 马太、多马、亚勒腓的儿子雅各、激进党人[b]西门、 16 雅各的儿子犹大和出卖耶稣的加略人犹大。
17 耶稣和他们下了山，站在一处平地上，身边有一大群门徒，还有大批从犹太、耶路撒冷以及泰尔和西顿沿海地区来的人，要听祂讲道，盼望祂医治他们的疾病。 18 那些被污鬼缠身的人也得到了祂的医治。 19 大家都想去摸祂，因为有能力从祂身上发出来，可以治好人们的疾病。
论四福
20 耶稣抬头望着门徒，对他们说：
“贫穷的人有福了，
因为上帝的国属于你们！
21 现在饥饿的人有福了，
因为你们将得饱足！
现在哀哭的人有福了，
因为你们将要欢笑！
22 你们为人子的缘故而遭人憎恨、弃绝、侮辱、毁谤，就有福了！ 23 那时你们要欢喜雀跃，因为你们在天上有大赏赐！他们的祖先也曾这样恶待以前的先知。
论四祸
24 “富有的人有祸了，
因为你们已经享尽了人世间的安逸！
25 现在饱足的人有祸了，
因为你们将要挨饿！
现在欢笑的人有祸了，
因为你们将要哀哭！
26 人人都夸赞你们的时候，
你们就有祸了，
因为他们的祖先也是这样夸赞假先知！
论爱仇敌
27 “但是，我告诉你们这些听道的人，要爱你们的仇敌，要善待恨你们的人， 28 要为咒诅你们的人祝福，要替恶待你们的人祷告。 29 如果有人打你一边的脸，连另一边也转过来让他打。如果有人夺你的外衣，连内衣也由他拿去。 30 有人向你求什么，就给他；有人拿了你的东西，不要追讨。 31 你们想要别人怎样对待你们，你们就要怎样对待别人。 32 如果你们只爱那些爱你们的人，有什么功劳呢？就是罪人也会这样做。 33 如果你们只善待那些善待你们的人，有什么功劳呢？就是罪人也会这样做。 34 如果你们借钱给人，指望收回，有什么功劳呢？即使罪人也会借贷给罪人，日后再如数收回。
35 “然而，要爱你们的仇敌，善待他们；无论借出什么，都不要指望归还。这样，你们将有大赏赐，并且将成为至高者的儿子，因为祂以恩慈待那些忘恩负义和作恶的人。 36 你们要怜悯人，像你们的天父怜悯人一样。
责人先责己
37 “不要论断人，免得你们被人论断；不要定人的罪，免得自己也被定罪。要饶恕人，这样你们也必蒙饶恕。 38 你们要给他人，这样上帝必给你们，并且会用大号升斗摇匀压实，满满地倒给你们，因为你们用什么样的量器量给别人，上帝也会用什么样的量器量给你们。”
39 耶稣又给他们讲了个比喻，说：“瞎子岂能给瞎子带路？二人岂不是要双双掉进坑里吗？ 40 学生不会高过老师，学成之后不过像老师一样。 41 为什么你只看见你弟兄眼中的小刺，却看不见自己眼中的大梁呢？ 42 你既看不见自己眼中的大梁，又怎能对弟兄说‘让我除去你眼中的小刺’呢？你这伪君子啊！要先除掉自己眼中的大梁，才能看得清楚，以便清除弟兄眼中的小刺。
树和果子
43 “好树不结坏果子，坏树也结不出好果子。 44 树的好坏从果子就可以分辨出来。人不会从荆棘中采集无花果，也不会在蒺藜上摘取葡萄。 45 善人心存良善，就从他里面发出良善；恶人心存邪恶，就从他里面发出邪恶。因为心里充满的，口里自然会说出来。
两种盖房子的人
46 “你们为什么‘主啊，主啊’地称呼我，却不遵行我的话呢？ 47 我要告诉你们那到我这里来，听了我的话又去遵行的人是什么样。 48 他好比一个人盖房子，把地挖深，根基立在磐石上。当河流泛滥，洪水冲击房子时，房子却屹立不摇，因为它的根基稳固。 49 但听了我的话却不遵行的人，好比一个人没有打根基，便将房子盖在地面上，洪水一冲，房子立刻倒塌，完全毁坏了。”
百夫长的信心
7 耶稣向众人讲完道后，进了迦百农。 2 当时，有一个百夫长很赏识的奴仆病了，生命垂危。 3 百夫长听说耶稣的事，就托几位犹太人的长老去请耶稣来医治他的奴仆。 4 他们便来恳求耶稣，说：“这位百夫长值得你帮助， 5 因为他爱我们的同胞，为我们建造会堂。” 6 耶稣就跟他们去了。
快抵达时，那百夫长又请几位朋友去见耶稣，对祂说：“主啊，不用劳驾，我不配让你亲自来我家。 7 我自认不配见你的面，只要你一句话，我的奴仆必定康复。 8 因为我有上司，也有部下。我命令我的部下去，他就去；要他来，他就来。我吩咐奴仆做什么事，他一定照办。”
9 耶稣听了这番话，感到惊奇，转身对跟从祂的百姓说：“我告诉你们，就是在以色列，我也从未见过有这么大信心的人。”
10 派去的几位朋友回到百夫长家里，发现那奴仆已经痊愈了。
寡妇的独子起死回生
11 过了不久[c]，耶稣去拿因城，随行的有门徒和一大群人。 12 耶稣快到城门口时，从城里走出一队送殡的人，死者是一个寡妇的独子，有许多城中的人陪着她。 13 耶稣看见那寡妇，怜悯之心油然而生，就对她说：“不要哭！” 14 随即上前按住抬尸架，抬的人停了下来。耶稣说：“年轻人，我吩咐你起来！” 15 那死者就坐了起来，并开口说话。耶稣把他交给他母亲。
16 在场的人惊惧万分，把荣耀归给上帝，说：“我们中间出了一位大先知！”又说：“上帝眷顾了祂的百姓！” 17 有关祂的这消息传遍了犹太和附近地区。
施洗者约翰的疑问
18 约翰从自己的门徒那里获悉这些事后， 19 就叫了两个门徒来，派他们去问主：“将要来的那位就是你吗？还是我们要等别人呢？”
20 他们找到耶稣，便问：“施洗者约翰派我们来请教你，‘将要来的那位就是你吗？还是我们要等别人呢？’”
21 那时，耶稣刚治好了许多患各种疾病和被鬼附身的人，又使许多瞎子得见光明。 22 耶稣便回答说：“你们回去把所见所闻告诉约翰，就是瞎子看见，瘸子走路，麻风病人得洁净，聋子听见，死人复活，穷人听到福音。 23 凡对我没有失去信心的人有福了！”
耶稣称赞施洗者约翰
24 约翰的门徒离去后，耶稣对众人谈论约翰，说：“你们从前去旷野要看什么呢？看随风摇动的芦苇吗？ 25 如果不是，你们到底想看什么？是看穿绫罗绸缎的人吗？那些衣着华丽、生活奢侈的人住在王宫里。 26 你们究竟想看什么？看先知吗？是的，我告诉你们，他不只是先知。 27 圣经上说，‘看啊，我要差遣我的使者在你前面为你预备道路。’这里所指的就是约翰。 28 我告诉你们，凡妇人所生的，没有一个比约翰大，但上帝国中最微不足道的也比他大。”
29 众百姓和税吏听了这番话，都承认上帝是公义的，因为他们接受了约翰的洗礼。 30 但那些法利赛人和律法教师没有接受约翰的洗礼，拒绝了上帝为他们所定的旨意。
31 主又说：“我用什么来比拟这个世代的人呢？他们像什么呢？ 32 他们就如街头上戏耍的孩童——彼此呼叫，
“‘我们吹娶亲的乐曲，
你们不跳舞；
我们唱送葬的哀歌，
你们不哭泣。’
33 施洗者约翰来了，禁食禁酒，你们就说他被鬼附身了； 34 人子来了，又吃又喝，你们就说，‘看啊，祂是个贪吃好酒之徒，与税吏和罪人为友！’ 35 然而，智慧会在追求智慧的人身上得到验证。”
罪妇的悔改
36 有一个法利赛人请耶稣到他家里吃饭，耶稣应邀赴宴。 37 那城里住着一个女人，生活败坏。她听说耶稣在那法利赛人家里吃饭，就带了一个盛满香膏的玉瓶进去。 38 她站在耶稣背后，挨着祂的脚哭，泪水滴湿了祂的脚，就用自己的头发擦干，又连连亲祂的脚，并抹上香膏。
39 请耶稣的法利赛人看在眼里，心想：“如果这人真的是先知，就该知道摸祂的是谁，是个什么样的女人，她是个罪人。”
40 耶稣对他说：“西门，我有话跟你说。”
西门答道：“老师，请说。”
41 耶稣说：“有一个债主借给一个人五百个银币，又借给另一个人五十个银币。 42 二人都没有能力还债，这位债主就免了他们的债务。你想，哪一位会更爱债主呢？”
43 西门答道：“我相信是那个被免去较多债的人。”
44 耶稣说：“你判断得对！”随后转向那女人，继续对西门说：“你看见这女人了吗？我到你家里来，你没有拿水给我洗脚，这女人却用她的眼泪洗我的脚，还亲自用头发擦干。 45 你没有亲吻我，但我进来以后，这女人却不停地吻我的脚。 46 你没有用油为我抹头，这女人却用香膏抹我的脚。 47 所以我告诉你，她众多的罪都被赦免了，因此她的爱深切；那些获得赦免少的，他们的爱也少。”
48 耶稣对那女人说：“你的罪都被赦免了。”
49 同席的人彼此议论说：“这人是谁？竟然能赦免人的罪！”
50 耶稣又对那女人说：“你的信心救了你，平安地走吧！”
撒种的比喻
8 此后，耶稣到各城镇去传扬上帝国的福音。同行的有十二使徒， 2 还有几个曾被邪灵和疾病缠身、现在已被医治的妇女。其中有抹大拉的玛丽亚，耶稣曾经从她身上赶出七个鬼， 3 还有希律的管家苦撒的妻子约亚拿，此外还有苏撒拿等其他妇女。她们用自己的钱财资助耶稣和门徒。
4 那时，人群络绎不绝地从各地聚集到耶稣面前，耶稣用比喻教导他们，说： 5 “有一个农夫到田里撒种，有些种子落在路旁，被人践踏，又被飞鸟吃掉了； 6 有些落在盖着浅土的石头地上，因水分不足，幼苗刚长出来就枯萎了； 7 有些落在荆棘丛中，荆棘长起来便把幼苗挤住了； 8 有些落在沃土里，发芽生长，结出百倍的果实。”耶稣讲完这番话后，高声说：“有耳可听的，就要留心听。”
9 门徒请耶稣解释这比喻的意思， 10 耶稣便说：“上帝国的奥秘只让你们知道，对其他人，我就用比喻，使他们看却看不见，听却听不明白。 11 这个比喻的意思是这样，种子代表上帝的道， 12 种子落在路旁是指人听了道，随后魔鬼来把道从他们心里夺走了，不让他们相信并得救。 13 种子落在盖着浅土的石头地上是指人听了道，欣然接受了，但是没有根基，只是暂时相信，一遇到试炼就放弃了。 14 种子落在荆棘丛中是指人听了道，后来被生活的忧虑、钱财和享乐缠住了，以致结不出成熟的果实来。 15 种子落在沃土里则是指人听了道，用诚实良善的心坚忍持守，至终结出果实。
点灯的比喻
16 “没有人点了灯，却用器皿把它盖起来或放到床底下，而是放在灯台上，使进来的人能见到光。 17 掩盖的事终会暴露出来，隐藏的秘密终会被人知道。 18 因此，你们要留心听，因为凡有的，还要给他更多；凡没有的，连他自以为已经拥有的也要被夺去。”
耶稣的亲属
19 这时，耶稣的母亲和兄弟来找祂，由于人太多，他们无法靠近耶稣， 20 有人就对祂说：“你的母亲和兄弟在外面想见你。” 21 耶稣却说：“听见上帝的话语并遵行的人就是我的母亲、我的弟兄。”
平静风浪
22 有一天，耶稣对门徒说：“我们到湖的对岸去吧。”于是他们坐船前往对岸。 23 途中耶稣睡着了。不料湖上忽然狂风大作，船灌满了水，非常危险。 24 门徒过来唤醒耶稣，说：“主啊，主啊！我们快淹死了！”
耶稣醒来，就斥责风浪，顿时风平浪静了。
25 耶稣对他们说：“你们的信心在哪里呢？”
门徒又惊又怕，彼此议论说：“祂究竟是谁？一发命令，连风浪都听祂的！”
格拉森赶鬼
26 他们渡过加利利湖，到了格拉森地区。 27 耶稣上岸后，迎面遇见当地一个被鬼附身的人。那人长期赤身露体，不住在房屋里，只住在墓穴中。 28 他一见到耶稣，就扑倒在祂面前，高声喊叫：“至高上帝的儿子耶稣，我和你有什么关系？求求你，不要折磨我！” 29 这是因为耶稣已命令污鬼离开那人。那人多次被污鬼操纵，人们用铁链脚镣把他锁起来看管，他竟把锁链也扯断，被鬼催逼到荒野。
30 耶稣问他：“你叫什么名字？”
他说：“我叫‘群’。”因为有一大群鬼附在那人身上。 31 鬼不断央求耶稣不要叫它们到无底坑去。
32 当时有一大群猪在附近山坡上觅食，污鬼就央求耶稣准许它们进入猪群，耶稣答应了。 33 于是那群鬼便离开那人，进入猪群。那群猪就一路奔下陡坡，冲进湖里淹死了。 34 放猪的人见此情形拔腿就跑，把这事告诉了城里和乡下的人。 35 人们出来看个究竟，到了耶稣那里，发现那曾被鬼附身的人衣着整齐、神智清醒地坐在耶稣脚前，他们都很害怕。 36 目击者把事情的始末告诉了他们。 37 格拉森地区的居民都十分害怕，请求耶稣离开那里，耶稣便乘船回去了。
38 那从前被鬼附身的人恳求跟耶稣同行，耶稣却对他说： 39 “你回家吧，把上帝为你所行的奇事告诉别人。”他就回去，走遍全城，四处传扬耶稣为他所行的奇事。
雅鲁求救
40 耶稣回到对岸，受到等候在那里的百姓的欢迎。 41 一个名叫雅鲁的会堂主管走过来俯伏在耶稣脚前，求耶稣到他家去，因为他有一个大约十二岁的独生女快要死了。

彼得说：“老师，众人都在拥挤你。”
46 耶稣却说：“一定有人摸了我，因为我感觉有能力从我身上出去。”
47 那妇人知道无法隐瞒，就战战兢兢地走过来，俯伏在耶稣脚前，把她摸了耶稣的衣裳后顽疾马上痊愈的始末当众说了出来。
48 耶稣对她说：“女儿，你的信心救了你！安心回去吧。”
雅鲁女儿死而复活
49 耶稣还在说话的时候，有人从雅鲁家赶来，对雅鲁说：“你的女儿已经死了，不用麻烦老师了。”
50 耶稣听见，就对雅鲁说：“不要怕，只要信。你的女儿一定会好的！”
51 到了雅鲁家，耶稣只准彼得、雅各、约翰和雅鲁夫妇跟祂进去。 52 屋内的人都在为那女孩哀伤哭泣，耶稣说：“不要哭，她没有死，只是睡着了。” 53 众人就讥笑祂，因为他们明明知道那女孩死了。 54 耶稣拉着那女孩的手，说：“孩子，起来！” 55 她的灵魂就回来了，她立刻站了起来。耶稣吩咐人给她东西吃。 56 她的父母非常惊讶，耶稣却嘱咐他们不要把这事传开。
差遣十二使徒
9 耶稣召集了十二个使徒，赐他们能力和权柄可以医病赶鬼， 2 又差遣他们出去宣讲上帝国的福音、医治病人。 3 耶稣叮嘱他们：“出门的时候，什么也不要带，不要带手杖、背包、干粮、金钱，也不要带两件衣服。 4 有人家接待你们，就住下来，一直住到你们离开。 5 如果有人不欢迎你们，你们在离开那城的时候，就把脚上的尘土跺掉，作为对他们的警告。”

希律的困惑

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness(A)
4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit,(B) left the Jordan(C) and was led by the Spirit(D) into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days(E) he was tempted[a] by the devil.(F) He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God,(G) tell this stone to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’[b]”(H)
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.(I) 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me,(J) and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’[c]”(K)
9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you carefully;
11 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[d]”(L)
12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[e]”(M)
13 When the devil had finished all this tempting,(N) he left him(O) until an opportune time.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
14 Jesus returned to Galilee(P) in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.(Q) 15 He was teaching in their synagogues,(R) and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth,(S) where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue,(T) as was his custom. He stood up to read,(U) 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,(V)
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news(W) to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[f](X)
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down.(Y) The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled(Z) in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.(AA)
23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown(AB) what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”(AC)
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.(AD) 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.(AE) 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.(AF) 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy[g] in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”(AG)
28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town,(AH) and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.(AI)
Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit(AJ)
31 Then he went down to Capernaum,(AK) a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching,(AL) because his words had authority.(AM)
33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us,(AN) Jesus of Nazareth?(AO) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are(AP)—the Holy One of God!”(AQ)
35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly.(AR) “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
36 All the people were amazed(AS) and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority(AT) and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.(AU)
Jesus Heals Many(AV)(AW)
38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. 39 So he bent over her and rebuked(AX) the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.
40 At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one,(AY) he healed them.(AZ) 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!”(BA) But he rebuked(BB) them and would not allow them to speak,(BC) because they knew he was the Messiah.
42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God(BD) to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” 44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.(BE)
Jesus Calls His First Disciples(BF)
5 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[h] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God.(BG) 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.(BH)
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”(BI)
5 Simon answered, “Master,(BJ) we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.(BK) But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.(BL) 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”(BM) 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid;(BN) from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.(BO)
Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(BP)
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[i](BQ) When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone,(BR) but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded(BS) for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more,(BT) so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.(BU)
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(BV)
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law(BW) were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.(BX) 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”(BY)
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(BZ)
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man(CA) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God.(CB) They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(CC)
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,”(CD) Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.(CE)
29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors(CF) and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect(CG) complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”(CH)
31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”(CI)
Jesus Questioned About Fasting(CJ)
33 They said to him, “John’s disciples(CK) often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”
34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom(CL) fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them;(CM) in those days they will fast.”
36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(CN)
6 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.(CO) 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(CP)
3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(CQ) 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat.(CR) And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man(CS) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6 On another Sabbath(CT) he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(CU) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.(CV) 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking(CW) and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious(CX) and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
The Twelve Apostles(CY)
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.(CZ) 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:(DA) 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew,(DB) Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Blessings and Woes(DC)
17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,(DD) 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him,(DE) because power was coming from him and healing them all.(DF)
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.(DG)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.(DH)
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.(DI)
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you(DJ) and insult you(DK)
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.(DL)
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,(DM) because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.(DN)
24 “But woe to you who are rich,(DO)
for you have already received your comfort.(DP)
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.(DQ)
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.(DR)
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.(DS)
Love for Enemies(DT)
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,(DU) 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(DV) 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.(DW) 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.(DX)
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?(DY) Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?(DZ) Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them,(EA) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children(EB) of the Most High,(EC) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful,(ED) just as your Father(EE) is merciful.
Judging Others(EF)
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(EG) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(EH) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(EI) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(EJ)
39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?(EK) 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.(EL)
41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit(EM)
43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.(EN) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.(EO)
The Wise and Foolish Builders(EP)
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’(EQ) and do not do what I say?(ER) 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,(ES) I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
The Faith of the Centurion(ET)
7 When Jesus had finished saying all this(EU) to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. 2 There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3 The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, 5 because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” 6 So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7 That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.(EV) 8 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” 10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son(EW)
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord(EX) saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”(EY) 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 They were all filled with awe(EZ) and praised God.(FA) “A great prophet(FB) has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”(FC) 17 This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.(FD)
Jesus and John the Baptist(FE)
18 John’s(FF) disciples(FG) told him about all these things. Calling two of them, 19 he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’”
21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses(FH) and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[j] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(FI) 23 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
24 After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet?(FJ) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is the one about whom it is written:
28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God(FL) is greater than he.”
29 (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.(FM) 30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law(FN) rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
31 Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:
“‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not cry.’
33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine,(FO) and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(FP) 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman(FQ)(FR)
36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet,(FS) he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[l] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,(FT) but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss,(FU) but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head,(FV) but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”(FW)
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you;(FX) go in peace.”(FY)
The Parable of the Sower(FZ)
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(GA) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(GB) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(GC) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(GD)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(GE) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(GG) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(GH) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(GI) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(GJ) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(GK) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(GL)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(GM)
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers(GN) are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”(GO)
Jesus Calms the Storm(GP)(GQ)
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(GR) we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked(GS) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(GT) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(GU)(GV)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[n] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(GW) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(GX) I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.(GY)
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake(GZ) and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(HA) dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed(HB) man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,(HC) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(HD)
40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(HE) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(HF) for twelve years,[o] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(HG) and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(HH) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(HI) I know that power has gone out from me.”(HJ)
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(HK) Go in peace.”(HL)
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(HM) “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,(HN) and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning(HO) for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”(HP)
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”(HQ) 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(HR)
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(HS)(HT)
9 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons(HU) and to cure diseases,(HV) 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God(HW) and to heal the sick. 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.(HX) 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5 If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”(HY) 6 So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
7 Now Herod(HZ) the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed because some were saying that John(IA) had been raised from the dead,(IB) 8 others that Elijah had appeared,(IC) and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life.(ID) 9 But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.(IE)
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(IF)(IG)
10 When the apostles(IH) returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida,(II) 11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God,(IJ) and healed those who needed healing.
12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”
