耶穌受試探
4 耶穌被聖靈充滿，從約旦河回來後，隨聖靈的引導來到曠野， 2 在那裡受魔鬼的試探四十天。那些日子耶穌什麼也沒吃。那段日子過後，祂餓了。 3 魔鬼對祂說：「如果你是上帝的兒子，可以把這塊石頭變成食物來吃啊。」
4 耶穌回答說：「聖經上說，『人活著不是單靠食物。』」
5 魔鬼又帶祂上到高處，頃刻間把天下萬國展示給祂看， 6 又說：「我要把這一切權勢和榮耀都給你，因為這一切全交給我了，我想給誰就給誰。 7 所以如果你向我下拜，這一切就是你的了。」
8 耶穌回答說：「聖經上說，『要敬拜主——你的上帝，單單事奉祂。』」
9 魔鬼又帶耶穌到耶路撒冷，讓祂站在聖殿的最高處，說：「如果你是上帝的兒子，就從這裡跳下去吧， 10 因為聖經上說，『上帝會吩咐祂的天使保護你， 11 他們會用手托住你，不讓你的腳碰在石頭上。』」
12 耶穌回答說：「聖經上說，『不可試探主——你的上帝。』」
13 魔鬼用盡各樣的試探後，暫時離開了耶穌。
拿撒勒人厭棄耶穌
14 耶穌帶著聖靈的能力回到加利利，祂的名聲傳遍了周圍地區。 15 祂在各會堂裡教導人，大家都稱讚祂。
16 祂來到自己長大的地方拿撒勒，照常在安息日進會堂，並站起來誦讀聖經。 17 有人把以賽亞先知書遞給祂，祂打開書卷，找到這樣一段經文：
18 「主的靈在我身上，
因為祂膏立了我，
讓我傳福音給貧窮的人，
差遣我宣告被擄的人得釋放、
瞎眼的人得見光明、
受欺壓的人得自由，
19 又宣告上帝悅納人的恩年已經來臨。」
20 耶穌讀完便收好書卷，還給負責的人，然後坐下。會堂裡的人都把目光集中在祂身上。
21 祂就對他們說：「你們剛才聽見的這段經文今天已經應驗了。」
22 大家都稱讚祂，聽見祂那些充滿恩典的話，都感到驚奇，就說：「這不是約瑟的兒子嗎？」
23 耶穌對他們說：「你們肯定會把這句俗話用在我身上，說，『醫生啊，治好你自己吧！你在迦百農所行的一切，我們都聽說了，也在你家鄉行給我們看吧！』 24 可是我實在告訴你們，先知在自己的家鄉都是不受歡迎的。 25 事實上，在以利亞先知的時代，天乾旱無雨達三年半之久，遍地有大饑荒。那時，以色列國有許多寡婦， 26 但以利亞並沒有奉命去幫助她們任何人，只奉命去幫助住在西頓地區撒勒法的一個寡婦。 27 在以利沙先知的時代，以色列國有許多患痲瘋病的人，但沒有一個人得到醫治，反而敘利亞的乃縵得到了醫治。」
28 會堂裡的人聽了這些話都怒火中燒， 29 就起來把耶穌趕出城外，帶到懸崖邊，要把祂推下去。他們的城就坐落在山上。 30 耶穌卻從他們中間穿過，離開了那裡。
加利利趕鬼醫病
31 耶穌下到加利利的迦百農鎮，在安息日教導眾人。 32 聽眾對祂的教導感到驚奇，因為祂的話裡充滿權柄。
33 在會堂裡有一個被污鬼附身的人高聲喊叫： 34 「唉！拿撒勒的耶穌啊，我們和你有什麼關係？你是來毀滅我們嗎？我知道你是誰，你是上帝的聖者！」
35 耶穌責備牠說：「住口！從他身上出來！」污鬼當場把那人摔倒，然後從他身上離開了，絲毫沒有傷害他。
36 大家都很驚訝，彼此議論說：「這是怎麼回事？祂的話竟然帶著權柄和能力，一吩咐污鬼，牠們就出來了！」
37 耶穌的名聲傳遍了周圍地區。
耶穌醫治許多人
38 祂離開會堂，到了西門的家。那時，西門的岳母正在發高燒，眾人就求耶穌醫治她。
39 耶穌站在她旁邊，斥責熱病，熱病就退了，她便立刻起來服侍他們。
40 到了黃昏，人們把患各種疾病的人帶到耶穌面前。耶穌把手按在病人身上，一一治好他們， 41 並趕出許多附在人身上的鬼。那些鬼喊叫著：「你是上帝的兒子！」耶穌卻斥責牠們，不許牠們說話，因為牠們知道祂是基督。
42 黎明時，耶穌退到一處僻靜的地方。眾人四處找祂，找到後想留住祂，不讓祂離開。 43 但耶穌對他們說：「我必須把上帝國的福音傳到其他的城鎮去，因為我是為此而被差來的。」 44 於是耶穌繼續在加利利[a]各會堂裡傳道。

4 1 Of Christ’s temptation, and fasting. 16 He teacheth in Nazareth to the great admiration of all. 24 A Prophet that teacheth in his own country is condemned. 33 One possessed of the devil is cured. 38 Peter’s mother-in-law is healed, 40 and divers sick persons are restored to health. 41 The devils acknowledge Christ.
1 And [a]Jesus full of the holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by that Spirit into the wilderness,
2 (A)And was there forty days tempted of the devil, and in those days he did eat nothing, but when they were ended, he afterward was hungry.
3 [b]Then the devil said unto him, If thou be the son of God, command this stone, that it be made bread.
4 But Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, (B)That man shall not live by bread only, but by every word of God.
5 Then the devil took him up into an high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, in the twinkling of an eye.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this [c]power will I give thee, and the glory of those kingdoms: for that is [d]delivered to me: and to whomsoever I will, I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, they shall be all [e]thine.
8 But Jesus answered him, and said, Hence from me, Satan: for it is written, (C)Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him alone thou shalt serve.
9 Then he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the Temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence,
10 For it is written, (D)That he will give his Angels charge over thee to keep thee:
11 And with their hands they shall lift thee up, lest at anytime thou shouldest dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answered, and said unto him, It is said, (E)Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a little season.
14 ¶ And Jesus returned by the power of the spirit into Galilee: and there went a fame of him throughout all the region round about:
15 For he taught in their Synagogues, and was honored of all men.
16 (F)[f]And he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up, and (as his custom was) went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the Prophet Isaiah: and when he had [g]opened the book, he found the place, where it was written,
18 (G)The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me, that I should preach the Gospel to the poor: he hath sent me, that I should heal the brokenhearted, that I should preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, that I should set at liberty them that are bruised:
19 And that I should preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and gave it again to the minister, and sat down: and the eyes of all that were in the Synagogue were fastened on him.
21 Then he began to say unto them, This day is the Scripture fulfilled in your ears.
22 [h]And all [i]bare him witness, and [j]wondered at the [k]gracious words, which proceeded out of his mouth, and said, Is not this Joseph’s son?
23 Then he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this Proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do it here likewise in thine own country.
24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, (H)No Prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of (I)Elijah, when heaven was shut three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the [l]land:
26 But unto none of them was Elijah sent, save into Zarephath, a city of Sidon, unto a certain widow.
27 Also many lepers were in Israel, in the time of (J)Elisha the Prophet: yet none of them was made clean, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28 [m]Then all that were in the Synagogue, when they heard it, were filled with wrath,
29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the edge of the hill, whereon their city was built, to cast him down headlong.
30 But he passed through the midst of them, and went his way,
31 ¶ (K)And came down into Capernaum a city of Galilee, and there taught them on the Sabbath days.
32 (L)And they were astonied at his doctrine: for his word was with authority.
33 (M)And in the Synagogue there was a man which had a spirit of an unclean devil, which cried with a loud voice,
34 [n]Saying, Oh, what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know who thou art, even the Holy one of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. Then the devil throwing him in the midst of them, came out of him, and hurt him nothing at all.
36 So fear came on them all, and they spake among themselves, saying, What thing is this: for with authority and power he commandeth the foul spirits, and they come out?
37 And the fame of him spread abroad throughout all the places of the country round about.
38 ¶ (N)[o]And he rose up, and came out of the Synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever, and they required him for her.
39 Then he stood over her, and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she arose, and ministered unto them.
40 Now at the Sun setting, all they that had sick folks of divers diseases, brought them unto him, and he laid his hands on everyone of them, and healed them.
41 (O)[p]And devils also came out of many, crying, and saying, Thou art that Christ that Son of God: but he rebuked them, and suffered them not to say that they knew him to be that Christ.
42 [q]And when it was day, he departed, and went forth into a desert place, and the people sought him, and came to him, and kept him that he should not depart from them.
43 But he said unto them, Surely I must also preach the kingdom of God to other cities: for therefore am I sent.
44 And he preached in the Synagogues of Galilee.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness(A)
4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit,(B) left the Jordan(C) and was led by the Spirit(D) into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days(E) he was tempted[a] by the devil.(F) He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God,(G) tell this stone to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’[b]”(H)
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.(I) 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me,(J) and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’[c]”(K)
9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you carefully;
11 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[d]”(L)
12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[e]”(M)
13 When the devil had finished all this tempting,(N) he left him(O) until an opportune time.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
14 Jesus returned to Galilee(P) in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.(Q) 15 He was teaching in their synagogues,(R) and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth,(S) where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue,(T) as was his custom. He stood up to read,(U) 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,(V)
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news(W) to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[f](X)
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down.(Y) The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled(Z) in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.(AA)
23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown(AB) what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”(AC)
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.(AD) 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.(AE) 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.(AF) 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy[g] in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”(AG)
28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town,(AH) and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.(AI)
Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit(AJ)
31 Then he went down to Capernaum,(AK) a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching,(AL) because his words had authority.(AM)
33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us,(AN) Jesus of Nazareth?(AO) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are(AP)—the Holy One of God!”(AQ)
35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly.(AR) “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
36 All the people were amazed(AS) and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority(AT) and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.(AU)
Jesus Heals Many(AV)(AW)
38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. 39 So he bent over her and rebuked(AX) the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.
40 At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one,(AY) he healed them.(AZ) 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!”(BA) But he rebuked(BB) them and would not allow them to speak,(BC) because they knew he was the Messiah.
42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God(BD) to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” 44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.(BE)
