Tinanong ang Karapatan ni Jesus(A)
20 Isang araw, habang nagtuturo si Jesus sa mga tao sa templo at nangangaral ng ebanghelyo, lumapit sa kanya ang mga punong pari at mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan kasama ang matatandang pinuno ng bayan. 2 Sinabi nila sa kanya, “Sabihin mo sa amin kung ano ang karapatan mong gawin ang mga ito? Sino ang nagbigay sa iyo ng karapatang ito?” 3 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Mayroon din akong itatanong sa inyo. Sagutin ninyo ako: 4 Saan nagmula ang karapatan ni Juan na magbautismo, sa langit ba o sa tao?” 5 Kaya't sila'y nag-usap-usap. “Kung sasabihin nating, ‘Mula sa langit,’ sasabihin niyang, ‘Bakit hindi ninyo siya pinaniniwalaan?’ 6 Ngunit kung sasabihin naman nating, ‘Mula sa tao,’ babatuhin tayo ng taong-bayan, sapagkat naniniwala silang si Juan ay propeta.” 7 Kaya't isinagot nilang hindi nila alam kung saan nagmula. 8 At sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, “Hindi ko rin sasabihin sa inyo kung saan nagmula ang karapatan kong gumawa ng mga ito.”
Ang Talinghaga ng mga Magsasaka sa Ubasan(B)
9 At sinimulan niyang isalaysay ang talinghagang ito sa mga taong-bayan: “Isang tao ang nagtanim ng ubas sa kanyang bukid. Ipinagkatiwala niya iyon sa mga magsasaka at siya ay nangibang-bayan nang mahabang panahon. 10 Nang panahon na ng anihan, nagsugo siya ng alipin sa mga katiwala upang mabigyan siya ng parte niya mula sa ubasan. Ngunit binugbog ng mga katiwala ang kanyang sugo at pinauwing walang dala. 11 Muli siyang nagsugo ng isang alipin; ngunit ito man ay binugbog, hinamak, at pinauwing walang dala. 12 Ipinadala niya ang ikatlong sugo, ngunit kahit ito'y kanilang sinugatan at ipinagtabuyan. 13 Kaya't sinabi ng may-ari ng ubasan, ‘Ano ang gagawin ko? Isusugo ko ang aking mahal na anak. Baka naman siya'y igalang na nila.’ 14 Ngunit nang makita na ng mga katiwala ang anak ng may-ari, nag-usap-usap sila, at sinabi, ‘Ito ang tagapagmana. Patayin natin siya upang mapasaatin ang kanyang mamanahin.’ 15 At inilabas nila sa ubasan ang anak at doon pinatay. Ano kaya ang gagawin sa kanila ng may-ari ng ubasan? 16 Pupunta siya doon at papatayin ang mga katiwalang ito, at ibibigay ang ubasan sa iba.” Nang marinig ito ng mga tao, sinabi nila, “Huwag nawang loobin iyan ng Diyos!” 17 Tinitigan sila ni Jesus at tinanong, “Kung gayon, ano ang kahulugan nito na nasusulat:
‘Ang batong tinanggihan ng mga tagapagtayo
ang siyang naging batong-panulukan’?
18 Ang bawat mahulog sa batong ito ay magkakadurug-durog, at dudurugin nito ang sinumang kanyang mabagsakan.” 19 Nang mahalata ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga punong pari na sila ang pinatatamaan ng talinghagang iyon, tinangka nilang dakpin si Jesus, ngunit hindi nila nagawa dahil takót sila sa mga tao.
Pagbabayad ng Buwis sa Emperador(C)
20 Kaya minatyagan nila si Jesus at sila'y nagsugo ng mga espiya upang magkunwaring matatapat, nang sa gayo'y mahuli siya sa kanyang sasabihin at madala siya sa pamamahala at kapangyarihan ng gobernador. 21 Nagtanong ang mga espiya kay Jesus, “Guro, alam naming ikaw ay nagsasabi at nagtuturo nang tama at wala kang pinapanigang tao, sa halip ay itinuturo mo ang daan ng Diyos ayon sa katotohanan. 22 Nararapat po bang magbayad ng buwis sa Emperador o hindi?” 23 Ngunit batid niya ang kanilang katusuhan kaya't sinabi niya sa kanila, 24 “Ipakita ninyo sa akin ang isang denaryo. Kaninong larawan at pangalan ang narito?” At sinabi nila, “Sa Emperador.” 25 Kaya't sinabi niya sa kanila, “Kung gayon, ibigay sa Emperador ang sa Emperador at sa Diyos ang sa Diyos.” 26 At hindi nila nagawang hulihin siya sa kanyang sinabi sa harap ng mga tao. Namangha sila sa kanyang mga sagot at sila'y tumahimik.
Ang Muling Pagkabuhay ng mga Patay(D)
27 Lumapit kay Jesus ang ilang Saduceo, ang mga hindi naniniwala sa muling pagkabuhay. Siya'y kanilang tinanong, 28 na nagsasabi, “Guro, isinulat sa atin ni Moises na kung namatay ang lalaking kapatid ng isang lalaki, at ang asawa nito'y naiwang walang anak, dapat na pakasalan ng lalaking naiwan ang asawa nito upang mabigyan ng anak ang kanyang namatay na kapatid. 29 Ngayon, may pitong magkakapatid na lalaki. Nag-asawa ang panganay at namatay na walang anak. 30 Ang ikalawa 31 at ang ikatlo hanggang ikapito ay pinakasalan ang balo ngunit lahat ay namatay na walang iniwang anak. 32 Sa huli ay namatay na rin ang babae. 33 Sa muling pagkabuhay, sino sa kanila ang magiging asawa ng babae? Sapagkat ang pito ay naging asawa niya.” 34 Kaya't sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, “Ang mga tao sa kapanahunang ito ay nag-aasawa o pinag-aasawa. 35 Subalit ang mga karapat-dapat makabahagi sa kapanahunang iyon at sa muling pagkabuhay ay hindi mag-aasawa at pag-aasawahin. 36 Hindi na sila mamamatay, sapagkat para na silang mga anghel. Sila ay mga anak na ng Diyos at mga bunga ng muling pagkabuhay. 37 Ang muling pagkabuhay ng mga patay ay pinatunayan mismo ni Moises, sa kwento tungkol sa nagliliyab na mababang puno, nang tawagin niya ang Panginoon na ‘Diyos ni Abraham, at Diyos ni Isaac, at Diyos ni Jacob.’ 38 Siya ay Diyos hindi ng mga patay kundi ng mga buháy sapagkat nabubuhay ang lahat sa kanya.” 39 Ilan sa mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan ang nagsabi, “Guro, magaling ang iyong isinagot.” 40 Kaya, hindi na sila nangahas magtanong pa sa kanya ng kahit ano.

41 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Paano nila nasasabing ang Cristo ay anak ni David? 42 Gayong si David mismo ang nagsabi sa Aklat ng mga Awit,
‘Sinabi ng Panginoon sa aking Panginoon;
“Maupo ka sa aking kanan,
43 hanggang sa magawa kong tuntungan ng iyong mga paa ang iyong mga kaaway.” ’
44 Tinawag siya ni David na Panginoon. Paano siya naging anak ni David?”

The Authority of Jesus Questioned(A)
20 One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts(B) and proclaiming the good news,(C) the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him. 2 “Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said. “Who gave you this authority?”(D)
3 He replied, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me: 4 John’s baptism(E)—was it from heaven, or of human origin?”
5 They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’ 6 But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ all the people(F) will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”(G)
7 So they answered, “We don’t know where it was from.”
8 Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
The Parable of the Tenants(H)
9 He went on to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard,(I) rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time.(J) 10 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 11 He sent another servant, but that one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed. 12 He sent still a third, and they wounded him and threw him out.
13 “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love;(K) perhaps they will respect him.’
14 “But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. ‘This is the heir,’ they said. ‘Let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
“What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and kill those tenants(L) and give the vineyard to others.”
When the people heard this, they said, “God forbid!”
17 Jesus looked directly at them and asked, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written:
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”(N)
19 The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him(O) immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.(P)
Paying Taxes to Caesar(Q)
20 Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said,(R) so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.(S) 21 So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.(T) 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them, 24 “Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?”
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
25 He said to them, “Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s,(U) and to God what is God’s.”
26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
The Resurrection and Marriage(V)
27 Some of the Sadducees,(W) who say there is no resurrection,(X) came to Jesus with a question. 28 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.(Y) 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. 30 The second 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. 32 Finally, the woman died too. 33 Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
34 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come(Z) and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children,(AA) since they are children of the resurrection. 37 But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’[b](AB) 38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
39 Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!” 40 And no one dared to ask him any more questions.(AC)
Whose Son Is the Messiah?(AD)
41 Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?(AE) 42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
43 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”’[c](AF)
44 David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
Warning Against the Teachers of the Law
45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 46 “Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.(AG) 47 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”

20 Un día, mientras Jesús enseñaba al pueblo en el Templo y les predicaba las buenas noticias, se acercaron los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la Ley, junto con los líderes religiosos.
2 —Dinos con qué autoridad haces esto —lo interrogaron—. ¿Quién te dio esa autoridad?
3 —Yo también voy a hacerles una pregunta a ustedes —respondió él—. Díganme: 4 El bautismo de Juan, ¿procedía del cielo o de los hombres?
5 Ellos, pues, lo discutieron entre sí: «Si respondemos “del cielo”, nos dirá “¿por qué no le creyeron?”. 6 Pero si decimos “de los hombres”, todo el pueblo nos apedreará, porque están convencidos de que Juan era un profeta».
7 Así que respondieron:
—No sabemos de dónde era.
8 Entonces Jesús dijo:
—Pues yo tampoco les voy a decir con qué autoridad hago esto.
Parábola de los labradores malvados(B)
9 Pasó luego a contarle a la gente esta parábola:
—Un hombre plantó un viñedo, se lo arrendó a unos labradores y se fue de viaje por largo tiempo. 10 Llegada la cosecha, mandó un siervo a los labradores para que le dieran parte de la cosecha. Pero los labradores lo golpearon y lo despidieron con las manos vacías. 11 Les envió otro siervo, pero también a este lo golpearon, lo humillaron y lo despidieron con las manos vacías. 12 Entonces envió un tercero, pero aun a este lo hirieron y lo expulsaron.
13 »Entonces pensó el dueño del viñedo: “¿Qué voy a hacer? Enviaré a mi hijo amado; seguro que a él sí lo respetarán”. 14 Pero cuando lo vieron los labradores, trataron el asunto. “Este es el heredero —dijeron—. Matémoslo y la herencia será nuestra”. 15 Así que lo arrojaron fuera del viñedo y lo mataron.
»¿Qué les hará el dueño? 16 Volverá, acabará con esos labradores y dará el viñedo a otros.
Al oír esto, la gente exclamó:
—¡Dios no lo quiera!
17 Mirándolos fijamente, Jesús les dijo:
—Entonces, ¿qué significa esto que está escrito:
»“La piedra que desecharon los constructores
ha llegado a ser la piedra angular”?[a]
18 Todo el que caiga sobre esa piedra quedará despedazado y, si ella cae sobre alguien, lo hará polvo.
19 Los maestros de la Ley y los jefes de los sacerdotes, cayendo en cuenta que la parábola iba dirigida contra ellos, buscaron la manera de echarle mano en aquel mismo momento. Pero temían al pueblo.
El pago de impuestos al césar(C)
20 Entonces, para acecharlo, enviaron espías que fingían ser gente honorable. Pensaban atrapar a Jesús en algo que él dijera y así poder entregarlo a la jurisdicción del gobernador.
21 —Maestro —dijeron los espías—, sabemos que lo que dices y enseñas es correcto. No juzgas por las apariencias, sino que de verdad enseñas el camino de Dios. 22 ¿Nos está permitido pagar impuestos al césar o no?
23 Pero Jesús, dándose cuenta de sus malas intenciones, respondió:
24 —Muéstrenme una moneda romana.[b] ¿De quién es esta imagen y esta inscripción?
—Del césar —contestaron.
25 —Entonces —dijo Jesús—, denle al césar lo que es del césar y a Dios lo que es de Dios.
26 No pudieron atraparlo en lo que decía en público. Así que, admirados de su respuesta, se callaron.
La resurrección y el matrimonio(D)
27 Luego, algunos de los saduceos, que decían que no hay resurrección, se acercaron a Jesús y le plantearon un problema:
28 —Maestro, Moisés nos enseñó en sus escritos que si un hombre muere y deja a la viuda sin hijos, el hermano de ese hombre tiene que casarse con la viuda para que su hermano tenga descendencia. 29 Pues bien, había siete hermanos. El primero se casó y murió sin dejar hijos. 30 Entonces el segundo 31 y el tercero se casaron con ella, y así sucesivamente murieron los siete sin dejar hijos. 32 Por último, murió también la mujer. 33 Ahora bien, en la resurrección, ¿de cuál será esposa esta mujer, ya que los siete estuvieron casados con ella?
34 —La gente de este mundo se casa y se da en casamiento —contestó Jesús—. 35 Pero los que sean dignos de tomar parte en el mundo venidero por la resurrección no se casarán ni serán dados en casamiento, 36 ni tampoco podrán morir, pues serán como los ángeles. Son hijos de Dios porque toman parte en la resurrección. 37 Pero que los muertos resucitan lo dio a entender Moisés mismo en el pasaje sobre la zarza, pues llama al Señor “el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob”.[c] 38 Él no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos; en efecto, para él todos ellos viven.
39 Algunos de los maestros de la Ley respondieron:
—¡Bien dicho, Maestro!
40 Y ya no se atrevieron a hacerle más preguntas.
¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?(E)
41 Pero Jesús les preguntó:
—¿Cómo es que dicen que el Cristo es descendiente de David? 42 David mismo declara en el libro de los Salmos:
»“Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
‘Siéntate a mi derecha,
43 hasta que ponga a tus enemigos
por debajo de tus pies’ ”.[d]
44 David lo llama “Señor”. ¿Cómo puede entonces ser su descendiente?
45 Mientras todo el pueblo lo escuchaba, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
46 —Cuídense de los maestros de la Ley. Les gusta pasearse con ropas ostentosas y les encanta que los saluden en las plazas, ocupar los primeros asientos en las sinagogas y los lugares de honor en los banquetes. 47 Se apoderan de los bienes de las viudas y a la vez hacen largas plegarias para impresionar a los demás. Estos recibirán peor castigo.

3 He answered them, “I also will ask you one question. Tell me: 4 the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?”
5 They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’ 6 But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.” 7 They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.
8 Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.’
14 “But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’ 15 Then they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.”
When they heard that, they said, “May that never be!”
17 But he looked at them and said, “Then what is this that is written,
‘The stone which the builders rejected
was made the chief cornerstone’?(A)
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces,
but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”
19 The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them. 20 They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor. 21 They asked him, “Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. 22 Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me? 24 Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?”
They answered, “Caesar’s.”
25 He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
26 They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent. 27 Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection. 28 They asked him, “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother. 29 There were therefore seven brothers. 34 Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. 36 For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection. 37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ (B) 38 Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”
39 Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.” 40 They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.
41 He said to them, “Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son? 42 David himself says in the book of Psalms,
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
43 until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’(C)
44 “David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
45 In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples, 46 “Beware of those scribes who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts; 47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32 Last of all the woman died also.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
40 And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
45 Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
