8 Lord, our Lord,
how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!(B)
You have covered the heavens with your majesty.[a](C)
2 From the mouths of infants and nursing babies,(D)
you have established a stronghold[b]
on account of your adversaries
in order to silence the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I observe your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you set in place,(E)
4 what is a human being that you remember him,
a son of man[c] that you look after him?(F)
5 You made him a little less than God[d][e]
and crowned him with glory and honour.
6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:(G)
7 all the sheep and oxen,
as well as the animals in the wild,
8 the birds of the sky,
and the fish of the sea
that pass through the currents of the seas.(H)

8 Lord our Lord, your name is the most wonderful in all the earth!
It brings you praise everywhere in heaven.
2 From the mouths of children and babies come songs of praise to you.
They sing of your power to silence your enemies who were seeking revenge.
3 I look at the heavens you made with your hands.
I see the moon and the stars you created.
4 And I wonder, “Why are people so important to you?
Why do you even think about them?
Why do you care so much about humans[a]?
Why do you even notice them?”
5 But you made them almost like gods
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You put them in charge of everything you made.
You put everything under their control.
7 People rule over the sheep and cattle and all the wild animals.
8 They rule over the birds in the sky
and the fish that swim in the sea.
9 Lord our Lord, your name is the most wonderful name in all the earth!

2 Herre, vår Herre,
hur majestätiskt är inte ditt namn över hela jorden!
Din härlighet når högre än alla himlar!
3 Ut ur munnarna på barn och spädbarn har du instiftat makt
för att tysta ovännen och hämnaren.[b]
4 När jag ser din himmel, dina fingrars verk,
månen och stjärnorna, som du har satt där uppe,
5 vad är då en människa, att du tänker på henne,
en människoson[c], att du lägger märke till honom?
6 Du gjorde honom lite lägre än Gud[d]
och krönte honom med härlighet och ära.
7 Du satte honom att härska över allt du har skapat,
du lade allt under hans fötter,
8 får, oxar, vilda djur,
9 himlens fåglar, havets fiskar
och allt som vandrar på havets stigar.
10 Herre, vår Herre,
hur majestätiskt är inte ditt namn över hela jorden!

- 8:1 Grundtextens innebörd är osäker; gittit kan syfta på vinpressen (så enligt Septuaginta), och psalmen har kanske sjungits vid vinskörden.
- 8:3 Grundtexten är svårförståelig, och ”makt” har i Septuaginta tolkats som lovsång (se Matt 21:16 där texten citeras ur Septuaginta).
- 8:5 Eller ett människobarn, här syftande på människan som skapad av Gud. Människoson blir i Nya Testamentet en benämning som Jesus använder om sig själv, (t.ex. Matt 16:27f.), och i Heb 2 tillämpas texten direkt på honom.

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name(A) in all the earth!
You have set your glory(B)
in the heavens.(C)
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold(D) against your enemies,
to silence the foe(E) and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,(F)
the work of your fingers,(G)
the moon and the stars,(H)
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c](I)
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e](J)
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.(K)
6 You made them rulers(L) over the works of your hands;(M)

7 all flocks and herds,(O)
