看哪!他們埋伏要害我的性命;

強盛的人聚集起來攻擊我;

求你醒來,懲罰萬國;

10 我的 神必以慈愛迎接我;

11 不要殺害他們,免得我的人民忘記了;

15 他們四處飄流,尋找食物;

17 我的力量啊!我要向你歌唱;

A Prayer for Protection

For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” A miktam of David when Saul sent men to watch David’s house to kill him.

59 God, save me from my enemies.
    Protect me from those who come against me.
Save me from those who do evil
    and from murderers.

Look, they are waiting to ambush me.
    Cruel people attack me,
    but I have not sinned or done wrong, Lord.
I have done nothing wrong, but they are ready to attack me.
    Wake up to help me, and look.
You are the Lord God All-Powerful, the God of Israel.
    Arise and punish those people.
    Do not give those traitors any mercy. Selah

They come back at night.
    Like dogs they growl and roam around the city.
Notice what comes from their mouths.
    Insults come from their lips,
    because they say, “Who’s listening?”
But, Lord, you laugh at them;
    you make fun of all of them.

God, my strength, I am looking to you,
    because God is my defender.
10 My God loves me, and he goes in front of me.
    He will help me defeat my enemies.
11 Lord, our protector, do not kill them, or my people will forget.
    With your power scatter them and defeat them.
12 They sin by what they say;
    they sin with their words.
They curse and tell lies,
    so let their pride trap them.
13 Destroy them in your anger;
    destroy them completely!
Then they will know
    that God rules over Israel
    and to the ends of the earth. Selah

14 They come back at night.
    Like dogs they growl
    and roam around the city.
15 They wander about looking for food,
    and they howl if they do not find enough.
16 But I will sing about your strength.
    In the morning I will sing about your love.
You are my defender,
    my place of safety in times of trouble.
17 God, my strength, I will sing praises to you.
    God, my defender, you are the God who loves me.

God Is My Strong Tower

Psalm 59

For the music director: “Do Not Destroy,” a Michtam of David, when Saul sent men to watch the house to kill him.
Deliver me from my enemies, my God!
Set me on high,
    away from those who rise up against me.
Deliver me from workers of iniquity.
Rescue me from bloodthirsty men.
For behold, they lie in wait for me.
Defiant men stir up strife against me—
not for my transgression or sin, Adonai.
For no guilt of mine, they run and set things up.
Awake! Help me! Look!
For You are Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot, the God of Israel!
Rouse Yourself to punish all the nations.
Show no mercy to any iniquitous traitors. Selah
They return at evening, snarling like a dog,
prowling about the city.
See, they are spewing with their mouth
—swords in their lips—
“After all, who is listening?”

But You, Adonai, are laughing at them.
You scoff at all the nations.
10 O my strength, I watch for You—
for God is my strong tower.
11 My God in His lovingkindness will go before me.
God will let me look down on my foes.
12 Do not slay them, lest my people forget.
With Your power shake them
and bring them down, O Lord our shield.
13 The sin of their mouth is the words of their lips.
So let them be caught in their pride,
    and for uttering a curse and a lie.
14 Consume them in wrath,
    consume them till they are no more.
Let them know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah

15 They return at evening, snarling like a dog,
prowling about the city.
16 They wander around for food.
If they are not full, they stay up all night.
17 But I—I sing of Your strength!
Yes, in the morning I sing aloud of Your lovingkindness.
For You have been my fortress,
    a refuge in the day of my trouble.
18 O my strength, to You I sing praises.
For God is my strong tower—
my God of lovingkindness.

59 1-2 My God! Rescue me from my enemies,
    defend me from these mutineers.
Rescue me from their dirty tricks,
    save me from their hit men.

3-4 Desperadoes have ganged up on me,
    they’re hiding in ambush for me.
I did nothing to deserve this, God,
    crossed no one, wronged no one.
All the same, they’re after me,
    determined to get me.

4-5 Wake up and see for yourself! You’re God,
    God-of-Angel-Armies, Israel’s God!
Get on the job and take care of these pagans,
    don’t be soft on these hard cases.

6-7     They return when the sun goes down,
    They howl like coyotes, ringing the city.
    Then suddenly they’re all at the gate,
    Snarling invective, drawn daggers in their teeth.
    They think they’ll never get caught.

8-10 But you, God, break out laughing;
    you treat the godless nations like jokes.
Strong God, I’m watching you do it,
    I can always count on you.
God in dependable love shows up on time,
    shows me my enemies in ruin.

11-13 Don’t make quick work of them, God,
    lest my people forget.
Bring them down in slow motion,
    take them apart piece by piece.
Let all their mean-mouthed arrogance
    catch up with them,
Catch them out and bring them down
    —every muttered curse
    —every barefaced lie.
Finish them off in fine style!
    Finish them off for good!
Then all the world will see
    that God rules well in Jacob,
    everywhere that God’s in charge.

14-15     They return when the sun goes down,
    They howl like coyotes, ringing the city.
    They scavenge for bones,
    And bite the hand that feeds them.

16-17 And me? I’m singing your prowess,
    shouting at dawn your largesse,
For you’ve been a safe place for me,
    a good place to hide.
Strong God, I’m watching you do it,
    I can always count on you—
    God, my dependable love.
