稱頌 神的幫助與保護

大衛朝聖之歌(原文作“往上行之歌”)。

124 願以色列人說:

如果不是耶和華幫助我們,(本節在《馬索拉文本》包括細字標題)

如果不是耶和華幫助我們;

那麼,人起來攻擊我們,

向我們發怒的時候,

就把我們活活吞下去了。

那時,洪水漫過我們,

急流淹沒我們;

洶湧的洪水把我們淹沒。

耶和華是應當稱頌的,

他沒有容讓敵人把我們當作獵物撕裂。

我們像雀鳥從捕鳥的人的網羅裡逃脫;

網羅破裂,我們就逃脫了。

我們的幫助在於耶和華的名,

他是造天地的主。

A song by David for going up to worship.

124 “If the Lord had not been on our side …”
(Israel should repeat this.)
“If the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us,
then they would have swallowed us alive
when their anger exploded against us.
Then the floodwaters would have swept us away.
An ⌞overflowing⌟ stream would have washed us away.
Then raging water would have washed us away.”

Thank the Lord, who did not let them sink their teeth into us.
We escaped like a bird caught in a hunter’s trap.
The trap was broken, and we escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 124

A song of ascents. Of David.

If the Lord had not been on our side—
    let Israel say(A)
if the Lord had not been on our side
    when people attacked us,
they would have swallowed us alive
    when their anger flared against us;
the flood(B) would have engulfed us,
    the torrent(C) would have swept over us,
the raging waters
    would have swept us away.

Praise be to the Lord,
    who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird
    from the fowler’s snare;(D)
the snare has been broken,(E)
    and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name(F) of the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven(G) and earth.

Psalm 124[a]

A song of ascents;[b] by David.

124 “If the Lord had not been on our side”—
let Israel say this.—
if the Lord had not been on our side,
when men attacked us,[c]
they would have swallowed us alive,
when their anger raged against us.
The water would have overpowered us;
the current[d] would have overwhelmed[e] us.[f]
The raging water
would have overwhelmed us.[g]
The Lord deserves praise,[h]
for[i] he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth.
We escaped with our lives,[j] like a bird from a hunter’s snare.
The snare broke, and we escaped.
Our deliverer is the Lord,[k]
the Creator[l] of heaven and earth.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 124:1 sn Psalm 124. Israel acknowledges that the Lord delivered them from certain disaster.
  2. Psalm 124:1 sn The precise significance of this title, which appears in Pss 120-134, is unclear. Perhaps worshipers recited these psalms when they ascended the road to Jerusalem to celebrate annual religious festivals. For a discussion of their background see L. C. Allen, Psalms 101-150 (WBC), 219-21.

  8. Psalm 124:6 tn Heb “blessed [be] the Lord.”
