耶和华弃绝犹大加以诸灾
15 耶和华对我说：“虽有摩西和撒母耳站在我面前代求，我的心也不顾惜这百姓。你将他们从我眼前赶出，叫他们去吧！ 2 他们问你说：‘我们往哪里去呢？’你便告诉他们：‘耶和华如此说：定为死亡的，必致死亡；定为刀杀的，必交刀杀；定为饥荒的，必遭饥荒；定为掳掠的，必被掳掠。 3 耶和华说：我命定四样害他们，就是刀剑杀戮，狗类撕裂，空中的飞鸟和地上的野兽吞吃毁灭。 4 又必使他们在天下万国中抛来抛去，都因犹大王希西家的儿子玛拿西在耶路撒冷所行的事。’”
5 “耶路撒冷啊，谁可怜你呢？谁为你悲伤呢？谁转身问你的安呢？” 6 耶和华说：“你弃绝了我，转身退后，因此我伸手攻击你、毁坏你，我后悔甚不耐烦。 7 我在境内各城门口[a]，用簸箕簸了我的百姓，使他们丧掉儿女。我毁灭他们，他们仍不转离所行的道。 8 他们的寡妇在我面前比海沙更多。我使灭命的午间来，攻击少年人的母亲，使痛苦惊吓忽然临到她身上。 9 生过七子的妇人力衰气绝，尚在白昼，日头忽落，她抱愧蒙羞。其余的人，我必在他们敌人跟前交于刀剑。”这是耶和华说的。
先知自言见恶于人蒙主慰藉
10 我的母亲哪，我有祸了！因你生我作为遍地相争相竞的人。我素来没有借贷于人，人也没有借贷于我，人人却都咒骂我。 11 耶和华说：“我必要坚固你，使你得好处。灾祸苦难临到的时候，我必要使仇敌央求你。
12 “人岂能将铜与铁，就是北方的铁折断呢？ 13 我必因你在四境之内所犯的一切罪，把你的货物财宝当掠物，白白地交给仇敌。 14 我也必使仇敌带这掠物到你所不认识的地去，因我怒中起的火要将你们焚烧。”
求耶和华眷顾
15 耶和华啊，你是知道的！求你记念我，眷顾我，向逼迫我的人为我报仇。不要向他们忍怒取我的命，要知道我为你的缘故受了凌辱。 16 耶和华万军之神啊，我得着你的言语就当食物吃了，你的言语是我心中的欢喜快乐，因我是称为你名下的人。 17 我没有坐在宴乐人的会中，也没有欢乐。我因你的感动[b]独自静坐，因你使我满心愤恨。 18 我的痛苦为何长久不止呢？我的伤痕为何无法医治，不能痊愈呢？难道你待我有诡诈，像流干的河道吗？
19 耶和华如此说：“你若归回，我就将你再带来，使你站在我面前。你若将宝贵的和下贱的分别出来，你就可以当做我的口。他们必归向你，你却不可归向他们。 20 我必使你向这百姓成为坚固的铜墙，他们必攻击你，却不能胜你。因我与你同在，要拯救你，搭救你。”这是耶和华说的。 21 “我必搭救你脱离恶人的手，救赎你脱离强暴人的手。”
主示耶利米斯土必灭
16 耶和华的话又临到我说： 2 “你在这地方不可娶妻，生儿养女。 3 因为论到在这地方所生的儿女，又论到在这国中生养他们的父母，耶和华如此说： 4 他们必死得甚苦，无人哀哭，必不得葬埋，必在地上像粪土，必被刀剑和饥荒灭绝。他们的尸首必给空中的飞鸟和地上的野兽做食物。
5 “耶和华如此说：不要进入丧家，不要去哀哭，也不要为他们悲伤，因我已将我的平安、慈爱、怜悯从这百姓夺去了。这是耶和华说的。 6 连大带小，都必在这地死亡，不得葬埋。人必不为他们哀哭，不用刀划身，也不使头光秃。 7 他们有丧事，人必不为他们擘饼，因死人安慰他们。他们丧父丧母，人也不给他们一杯酒安慰他们。 8 你不可进入宴乐的家，与他们同坐吃喝。 9 因为万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说：你们还活着的日子，在你们眼前，我必使欢喜和快乐的声音、新郎和新妇的声音，从这地方止息了。
斯民较其列祖尤恶
10 “你将这一切的话指示这百姓，他们问你说：‘耶和华为什么说要降这大灾祸攻击我们呢？我们有什么罪孽呢？我们向耶和华我们的神犯了什么罪呢？’ 11 你就对他们说：‘耶和华说：因为你们列祖离弃我，随从别神，侍奉敬拜，不遵守我的律法。 12 而且你们行恶比你们列祖更甚，因为各人随从自己顽梗的恶心行事，甚至不听从我。 13 所以我必将你们从这地赶出，直赶到你们和你们列祖素不认识的地，你们在那里必昼夜侍奉别神，因为我必不向你们施恩。’”
许以色列人仍归故土
14 耶和华说：“日子将到，人必不再指着那领以色列人从埃及地上来之永生的耶和华起誓， 15 却要指着那领以色列人从北方之地，并赶他们到的各国上来之永生的耶和华起誓。并且我要领他们再入我从前赐给他们列祖之地。”
16 耶和华说：“我要召许多打鱼的把以色列人打上来，然后我要召许多打猎的，从各山上、各冈上、各石穴中猎取他们。 17 因我的眼目察看他们的一切行为，他们不能在我面前遮掩，他们的罪孽也不能在我眼前隐藏。 18 我先要加倍报应他们的罪孽和罪恶，因为他们用可憎之尸玷污我的地土，又用可厌之物充满我的产业。”
偶像虚伪诞妄无益
19 耶和华啊，你是我的力量，是我的保障，在苦难之日是我的避难所。列国人必从地极来到你这里，说：“我们列祖所承受的不过是虚假，是虚空无益之物。 20 人岂可为自己制造神呢？其实这不是神！”
21 耶和华说：“我要使他们知道，就是这一次使他们知道我的手和我的能力，他们就知道我的名是耶和华了。”
犹大之罪不泯
17 “犹大的罪是用铁笔、用金钢钻记录的，铭刻在他们的心版上和坛角上。 2 他们的儿女记念他们高冈上、青翠树旁的坛和木偶。 3 我田野的山哪，我必因你在四境之内所犯的罪，把你的货物、财宝并丘坛当掠物交给仇敌。 4 并且你因自己的罪必失去我所赐给你的产业，我也必使你在你所不认识的地上服侍你的仇敌，因为你使我怒中起火，直烧到永远。”
弃主赖人者受祸
5 耶和华如此说：“倚靠人血肉的膀臂，心中离弃耶和华的，那人有祸了！ 6 因他必像沙漠的杜松，不见福乐来到，却要住旷野干旱之处，无人居住的碱地。
倚恃耶和华者得福
7 “倚靠耶和华，以耶和华为可靠的，那人有福了！ 8 他必像树栽于水旁，在河边扎根。炎热来到并不惧怕，叶子仍必青翠；在干旱之年毫无挂虑，而且结果不止。
人心诡诈难逃主鉴
9 “人心比万物都诡诈，坏到极处，谁能识透呢？ 10 我耶和华是鉴察人心、试验人肺腑的，要照各人所行的和他做事的结果报应他。 11 那不按正道得财的，好像鹧鸪抱不是自己下的蛋，到了中年，那财都必离开他，他终究成为愚顽人。”
祈主拯救
12 我们的圣所是荣耀的宝座，从太初安置在高处。 13 耶和华以色列的盼望啊，凡离弃你的，必致蒙羞。耶和华说：“离开我的，他们的名字必写在土里，因为他们离弃我这活水的泉源。” 14 耶和华啊，求你医治我，我便痊愈，拯救我，我便得救，因你是我所赞美的。
叹民不信预言
15 他们对我说：“耶和华的话在哪里呢？叫这话应验吧！” 16 至于我，那跟从你做牧人的职分，我并没有急忙离弃，也没有想那灾殃的日子，这是你知道的。我口中所出的言语都在你面前。 17 不要使我因你惊恐，当灾祸的日子，你是我的避难所。 18 愿那些逼迫我的蒙羞，却不要使我蒙羞；使他们惊惶，却不要使我惊惶；使灾祸的日子临到他们，以加倍的毁坏毁坏他们！
当以安息日为圣
19 耶和华对我如此说：“你去站在平民的门口，就是犹大君王出入的门，又站在耶路撒冷的各门口， 20 对他们说：‘你们这犹大君王和犹大众人并耶路撒冷的一切居民，凡从这些门进入的，都当听耶和华的话！ 21 耶和华如此说：你们要谨慎，不要在安息日担什么担子进入耶路撒冷的各门， 22 也不要在安息日从家中担出担子去。无论何工都不可做，只要以安息日为圣日，正如我所吩咐你们列祖的。 23 他们却不听从，不侧耳而听，竟硬着颈项不听，不受教训。
24 ‘耶和华说：你们若留意听从我，在安息日不担什么担子进入这城的各门，只以安息日为圣日，在那日无论何工都不做， 25 那时就有坐大卫宝座的君王和首领，他们与犹大人并耶路撒冷的居民，或坐车或骑马进入这城的各门，而且这城必存到永远。 26 也必有人从犹大城邑和耶路撒冷四围的各处，从便雅悯地、高原、山地并南地而来，都带燔祭、平安祭、素祭和乳香并感谢祭到耶和华的殿去。 27 你们若不听从我，不以安息日为圣日，仍在安息日担担子进入耶路撒冷的各门，我必在各门中点火，这火也必烧毁耶路撒冷的宫殿，不能熄灭。’”

猶大的厄運
15 耶和華對我說：「就算摩西和撒母耳站在我面前求情，我也不會憐憫這些百姓。你把他們從我面前趕走吧！ 2 如果他們問你，『我們該去哪裡，』你就告訴他們，耶和華這樣說，
『該死的死，
該被殺的被殺，
該遭饑荒的遭饑荒，
該被擄的被擄。』
3 「我要讓他們遭受四種禍患——刀殺、狗撕、鳥啄、獸吞。這是耶和華說的。 4 因為猶大王希西迦的兒子瑪拿西在耶路撒冷的所作所為，我要使他們的遭遇令天下萬國驚懼。
5 「耶路撒冷啊，誰會同情你？
誰會為你悲哀？
誰會駐足向你問安？
6 你背棄我，遠離我，
因此我要伸手攻擊你，毀滅你，
不再憐憫你。
這是耶和華說的。
7 我要在這片土地上的各城門口用簸箕簸散我的子民，
使他們喪掉兒女；
我要滅絕他們，
因為他們不思悔改。
8 我要使他們的寡婦比海沙還多，
使毀滅者在午間突然奪取青年的性命，
以致母親們陷入痛苦、驚恐中。
9 生過七個孩子的母親心力枯竭，奄奄一息。
她羞愧難當，
她的希望突然破滅，
猶如白晝突然變成黑夜。

耶利米訴苦
10 母親啊，我真不幸，因為你生了我這個跟全猶大爭論、激辯的人。我沒有向人借貸，也沒有借貸給人，然而人人都咒罵我。 11 耶和華說：「我必拯救你，我必使仇敵在災禍、困難來臨時哀求你。 12 誰能折斷來自北方之敵的鐵拳銅臂呢？ 13 因為你們境內罪惡氾濫，我要使敵人任意搶掠你們的財寶， 14 把你們擄到陌生的地方。我的怒火要燒滅你們。」
15 耶和華啊，你知道我的遭遇。
求你顧念我，眷顧我，
報應迫害我的人。
求你不要取我的性命，
因為你不輕易發怒，
你知道我為了你忍受辱罵。
16 萬軍之上帝耶和華啊，
我把你的話視為甘飴，
它們是我心中的快樂和喜悅，
因為我屬於你的名下。
17 我沒有與作樂的人為伍，
沒有與他們同樂。
你要我獨坐一處，
他們的罪惡使我怒氣填胸。
18 為什麼我的痛楚無休無止？
為什麼我的創傷無法醫治？
難道你要像一條時斷時流的小溪讓我無法依靠嗎？
19 耶和華對我說：
「如果你回心轉意，
我就讓你重新事奉我。
如果你說有益的話，
不說無益的話，
就可以做我的發言人，
百姓便會歸向你，
但你不可受他們的影響。
20 我要使你成為堅固的銅牆，
他們要攻擊你，卻不能勝過你，
因為我與你同在，我會保護你，
拯救你。
這是耶和華說的。
21 我要把你從惡人手中救出，
從殘暴之徒的權勢下贖回。」
耶和華降災難的日子
16 耶和華對耶利米說： 2 「你不可在這地方娶妻，也不可生兒育女。 3 至於在這地方出生的孩子和他們的父母，耶和華說， 4 『他們必死於惡疾，無人哀悼，無人埋葬，他們好像地上的糞便。他們必死於戰爭和饑荒，屍首必成為飛鳥和走獸的食物。』」 5 耶和華對我說：「你不要進入喪家為他們哀悼悲傷，因為我已收回我賜給這百姓的平安、慈愛和憐憫。這是耶和華說的。 6 他們無論尊卑都要死在這裡，無人埋葬，無人哀悼，也無人為他們的死而割傷身體、剃光頭髮。 7 無人用食物和酒安慰哀悼者，甚至無人給喪父或喪母者一杯安慰酒。 8 你不可進入宴樂之家與他們同坐吃喝。」 9 以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說：「在這百姓有生之年，我要使這地方的歡樂聲和新郎新娘的歡笑聲從他們眼前消失。
10 「當你把這些話告訴他們的時候，他們會質問你，『耶和華為什麼給我們降這大災難？我們有什麼罪？我們哪裡得罪了我們的上帝耶和華？』 11 你要對他們說，『耶和華說，你們的祖先背棄我，去跟隨、供奉、祭拜別的神明；他們背棄我，不遵守我的律法。 12 可是，你們的行為比他們更邪惡，一意孤行，不聽從我。 13 所以，我要把你們從這裡驅逐到你們和你們祖先都不認識的地方，你們在那裡要日夜供奉別的神明，因為我不再恩待你們。』」
14 耶和華說：「時候將到，那時人不再憑把以色列人帶出埃及的耶和華起誓， 15 而是憑把他們從流放之地——北方和列國領回來的永活的耶和華起誓。因為我必領他們回到我賜給他們祖先的地方。」
16 耶和華說：「看啊，我要召來許多漁夫把他們捕撈上來，我要召來許多獵人去各山嶺和岩穴獵取他們。 17 因為我鑒察他們的一切行為，他們無法隱藏，他們的罪惡逃不過我的眼晴。 18 首先，我要讓他們因自己的罪與惡而受加倍的報應，因為他們用沒有生命氣息的可憎偶像玷污我的土地，使可厭之物充滿我的產業。」
19 耶和華啊，你是我的力量，
是我的堡壘，
是我患難時的避難所。
萬國都要從地極來朝見你，
說：「我們祖先所拜的神像虛假無用，一無是處。
20 難道人可以為自己製造神明嗎？
其實那些神明並不是真神。」
21 耶和華說：「看啊，這一次我要讓他們知道我的權柄和能力，讓他們知道我是耶和華。」
猶大的罪與罰
17 「猶大人的罪是用鐵筆記錄的，用鑽石鐫刻的，寫在了他們心坎上和祭壇角上。 2 他們的兒女沒有忘記綠樹下、高崗上、 3 山野間的祭壇和亞舍拉神像。因為他們境內的罪惡，我必使敵人擄掠他們的財寶和神廟。 4 他們必失去我賜給他們的產業，被敵人擄到異鄉做奴隸，因為他們激起了我的怒火，永難熄滅。」
5 耶和華說：
「信靠世人、倚靠血肉之軀、
背叛耶和華的人該受咒詛！
6 這樣的人毫無福樂，
像沙漠中的灌木。
他要住在曠野中乾旱無人的鹽鹼地。
7 信靠耶和華、倚靠耶和華的人有福了！
8 這樣的人像一棵栽在水邊的樹，
根扎入水中，
不怕炎熱，不怕乾旱，
綠葉如蔭，不斷結果。
9 「人心比什麼都詭詐，
無可救藥，
誰能識透呢？
10 我耶和華鑒察人心，
察看人的意念，
按照人的行為報應人。」
11 謀取不義之財的人就像孵其他鳥蛋的鷓鴣，
他中年便會失去不義之財，
最後成了愚昧之人。
12 我們的聖殿是從太初就矗立在高處的榮耀寶座。
13 耶和華啊，你是以色列的盼望。
背棄你的人必蒙羞，
背叛你的人必像寫在塵土上的名字一樣消逝，
因為他們背棄了耶和華——活水的源泉。
14 耶和華啊，
你醫治我，我必痊癒；
你拯救我，我必脫離危難，
因為你是我所讚美的。
15 人們常譏諷我說：「耶和華說的那些事在哪裡？
怎麼還沒有實現呢？」
16 但我並沒有逃避牧養你子民的工作，
也沒有求你降禍給他們。
你知道我說的每一句話。
17 你是我患難中的避難所，

遵守安息日
19 耶和華對我說：「你去站在猶大君王出入的城門前和耶路撒冷的各城門前， 20 宣告，『從這些城門進出的猶大君王、百姓以及耶路撒冷的居民啊，你們都要聽耶和華的話。 21 耶和華說，如果你們想保住性命，就要小心，不要在安息日帶貨物進耶路撒冷的城門， 22 也不要從家中運出貨物，不要在安息日做任何工作。要按照我對你們祖先的吩咐守安息日為聖日。 23 然而，他們卻不聽，毫不理會，頑固不化，不肯受教。
24 「『耶和華說，你們要留心聽我的話，在安息日不可運貨物進耶路撒冷的城門，不可做任何工作，要守安息日為聖日。 25 這樣，坐大衛寶座的君王及其官員必乘車騎馬和猶大人以及耶路撒冷的居民從城門出入。這城必永遠有人居住。 26 人們必帶著燔祭、平安祭、素祭、乳香和感恩祭從猶大的城邑、耶路撒冷四周、便雅憫地區、丘陵、山區和南地去耶和華的殿。 27 但如果你們不聽我的話，不守安息日為聖日，仍在安息日運貨物進耶路撒冷的城門，我必在各城門點起無法撲滅的大火，燒毀耶路撒冷的宮殿。』」

16 万军之上帝耶和华啊，

15 Then the Lord said to me: “Even if Moses(A) and Samuel(B) were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people.(C) Send them away from my presence!(D) Let them go! 2 And if they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says:
“‘Those destined for death, to death;
those for the sword, to the sword;(E)
those for starvation, to starvation;(F)
those for captivity, to captivity.’(G)
3 “I will send four kinds of destroyers(H) against them,” declares the Lord, “the sword(I) to kill and the dogs(J) to drag away and the birds(K) and the wild animals to devour and destroy.(L) 4 I will make them abhorrent(M) to all the kingdoms of the earth(N) because of what Manasseh(O) son of Hezekiah king of Judah did in Jerusalem.
5 “Who will have pity(P) on you, Jerusalem?
Who will mourn for you?
Who will stop to ask how you are?
6 You have rejected(Q) me,” declares the Lord.
“You keep on backsliding.
So I will reach out(R) and destroy you;
I am tired of holding back.(S)
7 I will winnow(T) them with a winnowing fork
at the city gates of the land.
I will bring bereavement(U) and destruction on my people,(V)
for they have not changed their ways.(W)
8 I will make their widows(X) more numerous
than the sand of the sea.
At midday I will bring a destroyer(Y)
against the mothers of their young men;
suddenly I will bring down on them
anguish and terror.(Z)
9 The mother of seven will grow faint(AA)
and breathe her last.(AB)
Her sun will set while it is still day;
she will be disgraced(AC) and humiliated.
I will put the survivors to the sword(AD)

declares the Lord.
10 Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth,(AF)

I have neither lent(AH) nor borrowed,

11 The Lord said,
“Surely I will deliver you(AJ) for a good purpose;
surely I will make your enemies plead(AK) with you
in times of disaster and times of distress.
12 “Can a man break iron—
iron from the north(AL)—or bronze?
13 “Your wealth(AM) and your treasures
I will give as plunder,(AN) without charge,(AO)
because of all your sins

14 I will enslave you to your enemies
in[a] a land you do not know,(AQ)
for my anger will kindle a fire(AR)
that will burn against you.”
15 Lord, you understand;
remember me and care for me.
Avenge me on my persecutors.(AS)
You are long-suffering(AT)—do not take me away;
think of how I suffer reproach for your sake.(AU)
16 When your words came, I ate(AV) them;
they were my joy and my heart’s delight,(AW)
for I bear your name,(AX)

17 I never sat(AY) in the company of revelers,
never made merry with them;
I sat alone because your hand(AZ) was on me

18 Why is my pain unending

You are to me like a deceptive brook,

19 Therefore this is what the Lord says:
“If you repent, I will restore you

if you utter worthy, not worthless, words,
you will be my spokesman.(BD)
Let this people turn to you,
but you must not turn to them.
20 I will make you a wall(BE) to this people,
a fortified wall of bronze;
they will fight against you
but will not overcome(BF) you,
for I am with you
to rescue and save you,”(BG)
declares the Lord.
21 “I will save(BH) you from the hands of the wicked(BI)
and deliver(BJ) you from the grasp of the cruel.”(BK)
Day of Disaster
16 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 2 “You must not marry(BL) and have sons or daughters in this place.” 3 For this is what the Lord says about the sons and daughters born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers:(BM) 4 “They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried(BN) but will be like dung lying on the ground.(BO) They will perish by sword and famine,(BP) and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.”(BQ)
5 For this is what the Lord says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity(BR) from this people,” declares the Lord. 6 “Both high and low will die in this land.(BS) They will not be buried or mourned,(BT) and no one will cut(BU) themselves or shave(BV) their head for the dead. 7 No one will offer food(BW) to comfort those who mourn(BX) for the dead—not even for a father or a mother—nor will anyone give them a drink to console(BY) them.
8 “And do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink.(BZ) 9 For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds(CA) of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride(CB) and bridegroom in this place.(CC)
10 “When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?’(CD) 11 then say to them, ‘It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped(CE) them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.(CF) 12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors.(CG) See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts(CH) instead of obeying me. 13 So I will throw you out of this land(CI) into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known,(CJ) and there you will serve other gods(CK) day and night, for I will show you no favor.’(CL)
14 “However, the days are coming,”(CM) declares the Lord, “when it will no longer be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’(CN) 15 but it will be said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north(CO) and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’(CP) For I will restore(CQ) them to the land I gave their ancestors.(CR)
16 “But now I will send for many fishermen,” declares the Lord, “and they will catch them.(CS) After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt(CT) them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks.(CU) 17 My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden(CV) from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes.(CW) 18 I will repay(CX) them double(CY) for their wickedness and their sin, because they have defiled my land(CZ) with the lifeless forms of their vile images(DA) and have filled my inheritance with their detestable idols.(DB)”(DC)
19 Lord, my strength and my fortress,
my refuge(DD) in time of distress,
to you the nations will come(DE)
from the ends of the earth and say,
“Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,(DF)

20 Do people make their own gods?
Yes, but they are not gods!”(DI)
21 “Therefore I will teach them—
this time I will teach them
my power and might.
Then they will know

on the tablets of their hearts(DL)

beside the spreading trees

3 My mountain in the land

4 Through your own fault you will lose

5 This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,(DW)
who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.(DX)
6 That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places(DY) of the desert,
in a salt(DZ) land where no one lives.
7 “But blessed(EA) is the one who trusts(EB) in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.(EC)
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought(ED)
and never fails to bear fruit.”(EE)
9 The heart(EF) is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
10 “I the Lord search the heart(EG)
and examine the mind,(EH)
to reward(EI) each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.”(EJ)
11 Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay
are those who gain riches by unjust means.
When their lives are half gone, their riches will desert them,
and in the end they will prove to be fools.(EK)
12 A glorious throne,(EL) exalted from the beginning,
is the place of our sanctuary.
13 Lord, you are the hope(EM) of Israel;
all who forsake(EN) you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust(EO)
because they have forsaken the Lord,
the spring of living water.(EP)
14 Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed;(EQ)
save(ER) me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise.(ES)
15 They keep saying to me,
“Where is the word of the Lord?

16 I have not run away from being your shepherd;
you know I have not desired the day of despair.

18 Let my persecutors be put to shame,

Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy
19 This is what the Lord said to me: “Go and stand at the Gate of the People,[d] through which the kings of Judah go in and out; stand also at all the other gates of Jerusalem.(EZ) 20 Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah and all people of Judah and everyone living in Jerusalem(FA) who come through these gates.(FB) 21 This is what the Lord says: Be careful not to carry a load on the Sabbath(FC) day or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem. 22 Do not bring a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your ancestors.(FD) 23 Yet they did not listen or pay attention;(FE) they were stiff-necked(FF) and would not listen or respond to discipline.(FG) 24 But if you are careful to obey me, declares the Lord, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath, but keep the Sabbath day holy(FH) by not doing any work on it, 25 then kings who sit on David’s throne(FI) will come through the gates of this city with their officials. They and their officials will come riding in chariots and on horses, accompanied by the men of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited forever.(FJ) 26 People will come from the towns of Judah and the villages around Jerusalem, from the territory of Benjamin and the western foothills, from the hill country and the Negev,(FK) bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and incense, and bringing thank offerings to the house of the Lord. 27 But if you do not obey(FL) me to keep the Sabbath(FM) day holy by not carrying any load as you come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire(FN) in the gates of Jerusalem that will consume her fortresses.’”(FO)

15 Mais l’Eternel me dit : Même si Moïse et Samuel[a] se tenaient devant moi pour prier pour ce peuple, je ne me soucierais pas d’eux. Chasse-le de ma vue, qu’il parte loin de moi ! 2 Et lorsqu’ils te diront : « Où devons-nous aller ? » tu leur diras ceci :
Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel :
Ceux qui sont destinés ╵à la peste ╵s’en iront à la peste ;
ceux qui sont destinés ╵à périr par l’épée ╵s’en iront à l’épée,
ceux qui sont destinés ╵à mourir de famine, ╵iront à la famine ;
ceux qui sont destinés ╵à la déportation, ╵s’en iront en déportation.
3 Je leur enverrai quatre sortes de maux, déclare l’Eternel : l’épée pour les abattre, les chiens pour les déchirer, les rapaces et les animaux sauvages pour les dévorer et les détruire. 4 Je ferai d’eux un sujet d’épouvante pour tous les royaumes de la terre, à cause de Manassé, fils d’Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et de tout le mal qu’il a commis dans Jérusalem[b].

pourtant tous me maudissent !
11 L’Eternel répondit :
Moi, je t’assure,
je te délivrerai ╵pour te faire du bien ;
au temps de ton malheur, ╵au temps de ta détresse :
ce sont tes ennemis ╵qui viendront t’implorer[c] !
12 Peut-on briser le fer
– le fer qui vient du nord – ╵ou bien le bronze ?
13 Parle ainsi à ce peuple :
Vos biens et vos trésors, ╵je les livrerai au pillage, ╵et on ne te les paiera pas

Elles ont fait ma joie et mon bonheur,

17 Je ne me suis pas joint ╵à un cercle de plaisantins ╵pour m’y amuser avec eux.
Non, contraint par ta main, ╵je suis resté à part,

et ma plaie douloureuse, ╵rebelle aux soins ?
Vraiment : pour moi tu es ╵une source trompeuse

19 Voici la réponse de l’Eternel :
Si tu reviens à moi, ╵je te rétablirai.
Tu pourras te tenir
à mon service.
Si ce qui est précieux, ╵tu le sépares ╵de ce qui est indigne,
tu seras mon porte-parole.
Ils reviendront à toi,
mais ce n’est pas à toi ╵de revenir vers eux.
20 Et je ferai de toi, ╵en face de ce peuple,
comme un rempart de bronze ╵inébranlable.
Ils te feront la guerre
mais ils ne l’emporteront pas sur toi
car je suis avec toi : ╵je te protégerai ╵et te délivrerai,
l’Eternel le déclare[f].
21 Oui, je te délivrerai des méchants,
je te sauverai des violents.
La solitude du prophète
16 L’Eternel m’adressa la parole : 2 Tu ne te marieras pas, tu n’auras donc ni fils ni filles en ce lieu, 3 car voici ce que déclare l’Eternel au sujet des fils et des filles qui naissent en ce lieu et au sujet des mères qui les mettent au monde, et au sujet des pères qui les engendrent ici, dans ce pays : 4 Des maladies mortelles les feront périr. Nul ne mènera deuil sur eux et on ne les mettra pas au tombeau. Leurs corps resteront étendus comme du fumier sur le sol. L’épée ou la famine les consumeront et leurs cadavres seront dévorés par les rapaces et les bêtes sauvages.
5 Car voici ce que déclare l’Eternel : Tu ne dois pas entrer dans une maison endeuillée ; ne va pas à des funérailles, n’aie pour ces gens aucun geste de sympathie, car j’ai retiré à ce peuple ma paix, ma bonté et ma compassion, l’Eternel le déclare. 6 Les grands et les petits mourront dans ce pays ; ils ne seront pas enterrés, nul ne mènera deuil sur eux, on ne se fera pas des incisions pour eux[g], nul ne se rasera la tête pour eux. 7 Personne ne fera de repas funéraire pour ceux qui sont en deuil, pour les réconforter du décès d’un des leurs. Nul ne leur offrira la coupe de consolation au sujet du décès d’un père ou d’une mère.
8 Tu n’iras pas non plus dans la maison où l’on festoie pour t’asseoir avec eux, pour manger et pour boire. 9 Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées célestes, Dieu d’Israël : Je vais faire cesser en ce lieu, sous vos yeux et durant votre temps, les cris de réjouissance et d’allégresse, la voix du marié et de la mariée.
10 Or, quand tu communiqueras ce message à ce peuple, ils te demanderont : « Pourquoi donc l’Eternel parle-t-il de nous envoyer ce grand malheur ? Quel mal avons-nous fait ? Quel péché avons-nous commis contre l’Eternel notre Dieu ? » 11 Alors, tu leur diras : Vos pères m’ont abandonné, l’Eternel le déclare, ils se sont attachés à d’autres dieux, ils leur ont rendu un culte, et ils se sont prosternés devant eux. Ils m’ont abandonné et n’ont pas appliqué ma Loi. 12 Et vous, vous avez fait pis encore que vos pères, chacun de vous suit les penchants de son cœur obstiné et mauvais, sans m’écouter. 13 Je vous jetterai donc hors de ce pays-ci jusqu’en un pays inconnu de vous et de vos pères. Là, jour et nuit, vous adorerez d’autres dieux, car je n’aurai plus pitié de vous.
Lueur d’espoir
14 C’est pourquoi, des jours viennent – l’Eternel le déclare – où l’on ne dira plus : « L’Eternel est vivant, lui qui a fait sortir d’Egypte les Israélites[h] » ; 15 mais l’on dira plutôt : « L’Eternel est vivant, lui qui a fait sortir les Israélites du pays du nord et de tous les pays où il les avait chassés. » Je les ramènerai dans leur pays que j’ai donné à leurs ancêtres.
16 Oui, je vais envoyer des pêcheurs en grand nombre, et ils les pêcheront, déclare l’Eternel, et j’enverrai des chasseurs en grand nombre, et ils les chasseront sur toutes les montagnes, sur toutes les collines et dans les fentes des rochers. 17 J’observe toutes leurs démarches, aucune ne m’échappe, et leur crime ne peut se dérober à mon regard. 18 Je leur paierai d’abord[i] au double le salaire que méritent leur iniquité et leurs péchés, car ils ont profané mon pays avec leurs idoles qui n’ont pas plus de vie que des cadavres, et ils ont rempli mon domaine de leurs horreurs abominables.
Les peuples non israélites se tournent vers l’Eternel
19 Eternel, toi ma force, ╵mon rempart,
toi, mon refuge, ╵au temps de la détresse,
les peuples étrangers ╵viendront à toi
des confins de la terre
en proclamant :
« Nos pères n’ont eu en partage ╵que des idoles mensongères,
des divinités inutiles ╵qui ne servent à rien.
20 Un homme pourrait-il ╵se fabriquer des dieux ?
Ce ne sont pas des dieux ! »
21 C’est pourquoi, je vais leur faire connaître,
oui, cette fois,
je leur ferai connaître ╵comment j’agis avec puissance,
et ils sauront alors ╵que je suis l’Eternel.
Le cœur corrompu
Le péché de Juda
17 Le péché de Juda ╵est écrit avec un burin de fer,
il est gravé ╵sur la tablette de leur cœur
avec la pointe de diamant
et sur les cornes ╵aux coins de leurs autels[j].
2 Aussi leurs fils ont leurs pensées, ╵tournées vers leurs autels
et vers leurs pieux sacrés ╵voués à Ashéra ╵près de chaque arbre vert
sur les hautes collines[k]
3 et les montagnes ╵dans la campagne.
Mais je livrerai au pillage
vos biens, tous vos trésors,
ainsi que vos hauts lieux,
à cause des péchés ╵que vous avez commis
dans tout votre pays[l].
4 Tu te dessaisiras ╵du patrimoine que je t’ai donné
et de vos ennemis, ╵je vous rendrai esclaves,
dans un pays ╵qui vous est inconnu ;
car vous, vous avez attisé ╵le feu de ma colère :
il sera embrasé ╵à tout jamais.
5 Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel :
Maudit soit l’homme ╵qui met sa confiance en l’homme
et qui fait des moyens humains ╵la source de sa force
mais qui détourne ╵son cœur de l’Eternel.
6 Il est comme un buisson dans le désert,
et il ne verra pas ╵arriver le bonheur.
Il aura pour demeure ╵un aride désert,
une terre salée ╵où n’habite personne.
7 Béni soit l’homme ╵qui met sa confiance ╵en l’Eternel
et qui fonde sur l’Eternel ╵toute son assurance.
8 Il sera comme un arbre ╵planté près d’un cours d’eau
qui étend ses racines ╵vers le ruisseau,
il ne redoute rien ╵lorsque vient la chaleur :
ses feuilles restent vertes ;
il ne s’inquiète pas
pendant l’année de sécheresse,
et il ne cesse pas ╵de produire du fruit[m].
9 Le cœur est tortueux ╵plus que toute autre chose,
et il est incurable,
qui pourrait le connaître ?
10 Moi, l’Eternel, ╵moi, je sonde les cœurs,
je scrute le tréfonds de l’être
pour donner à chacun ╵ce que lui auront valu sa conduite
et les effets ╵de ses agissements.
11 Semblable à la perdrix ╵qui a couvé des œufs ╵qu’elle n’a pas pondus
est l’homme qui amasse ╵des richesses acquises ╵injustement.
Au milieu de sa vie, ╵sa fortune le quitte
et il montre finalement ╵qu’il est un insensé.
Prière
12 Il est un trône glorieux, ╵élevé dès les origines,
c’est là qu’est notre sanctuaire.
13 O Eternel, ╵toi l’espoir d’Israël,
tous ceux qui t’abandonnent ╵seront couverts de honte.
Oui, ceux qui se détournent ╵de moi vont à leur perte,
parce qu’ils ont abandonné ╵la source des eaux vives[n] ╵qu’est l’Eternel.
14 Guéris-moi, Eternel, ╵et je serai guéri !
Oui, sauve-moi ╵et je serai sauvé !
Car c’est toi que je loue !
15 Les voilà qui me disent :
« Où sont donc les menaces ╵que l’Eternel a proférées ?
Qu’elles se réalisent ! »
16 Pourtant, je n’ai pas refusé
de marcher à ta suite ╵en étant un berger[o].
Je n’ai pas souhaité ╵que vienne le jour des douleurs.
Toi, tu es au courant ╵de ce qu’a dit ma bouche,
c’est devant toi que j’ai parlé.
17 Ne deviens pas pour moi ╵un sujet de frayeur !
Tu es mon seul refuge ╵dans le temps du malheur !
18 Que mes persécuteurs ╵soient dans la confusion,
et que je ne sois pas confus !
Qu’ils soient saisis de peur,
et que je n’aie pas peur !
Fais arriver sur eux ╵le jour de la détresse,
et brise-les ╵par un double désastre !
Le sabbat consacré à l’Eternel
19 L’Eternel me parla en ces termes : Va te poster à « la porte du Peuple », par où entrent et sortent les rois de Juda. Et fais de même à toutes les autres portes de la cité de Jérusalem. 20 Là tu proclameras : Ecoutez ce que déclare l’Eternel, rois de Juda, et vous, tous les Judéens, et vous, tous les habitants de Jérusalem, vous qui passez par ces portes !
21 Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel : Gardez-vous de porter des fardeaux le jour du sabbat, et ne leur faites pas passer les portes de Jérusalem[p] ! 22 Ne faites pas non plus sortir de fardeau de vos maisons au jour du sabbat ! Abstenez-vous de tout travail, et faites de ce jour du sabbat un jour saint, comme je l’ai ordonné à vos ancêtres[q]. 23 Ils n’ont pas écouté ni prêté attention, ils ont raidi leur nuque et ils ne m’ont pas écouté, ils n’ont pas accepté d’instructions de ma part.
24 Mais si vous m’écoutez vraiment, déclare l’Eternel, si le jour du sabbat vous ne faites pas passer de fardeaux par les portes de cette ville et si vous faites de ce jour du sabbat un jour saint, vous abstenant en ce jour-là de tout travail, 25 alors des rois et leurs ministres continueront à passer par ces portes. Ces rois, siégeant sur le trône de David, se déplaceront, montés sur des chars et des chevaux. Eux et leurs ministres, ainsi que les Judéens et les habitants de Jérusalem passeront par ces portes, et, pour toujours, la ville restera habitée. 26 Alors, des villes de Juda et des environs de Jérusalem, du territoire de Benjamin et de la vallée du Jourdain[r], de la montagne et du Néguev, on viendra pour offrir des holocaustes et d’autres sacrifices, des offrandes et de l’encens, pour offrir des sacrifices de reconnaissance, dans le temple de l’Eternel. 27 Mais si vous ne m’écoutez pas, si vous ne faites pas du jour du sabbat un jour saint, si vous ne vous abstenez pas de porter des fardeaux et de franchir les portes de Jérusalem en ce jour-là, alors je mettrai le feu aux portes de la ville, et il consumera les palais de Jérusalem : il ne s’éteindra pas.
