Jesus ber om förhärligande
17 När Jesus hade sagt detta, såg han upp mot himlen och sa:
”Fader, stunden har nu kommit. Förhärliga din Son för att Sonen ska förhärliga dig! 2 Du har gett honom makt över alla människor så att han kan ge evigt liv åt alla dem som du har gett honom. 3 Och evigt liv är att de känner dig, den enda sanna Guden, och Jesus Kristus som du har sänt. 4 Jag har förhärligat dig här på jorden genom att slutföra det uppdrag du har gett mig. 5 Förhärliga nu mig, Fader, med den härlighet jag hade hos dig innan världen blev till!
Jesus ber för sina lärjungar
6 Jag har uppenbarat ditt namn för dem som du gav mig från världen. De var dina, du gav dem till mig och de har hållit sig till ditt ord. 7 Nu vet de att allt som du har gett mig kommer från dig. 8 Det ord jag fick från dig har jag fört vidare till dem och de har tagit emot ordet och faktiskt förstått att jag kommer från dig. De har trott att du har sänt mig.
9 Jag ber för dem. Jag ber inte för världen utan för dem som du har gett mig eftersom de tillhör dig. 10 Allt mitt är ditt och allt ditt är mitt. Jag har förhärligats i dem. 11 Jag är inte mer kvar i världen men de blir kvar här i världen. Jag kommer till dig. Helige Fader, bevara dem i ditt namn som du har gett mig, så att de blir ett så som vi är ett! 12 Medan jag var hos dem, bevarade jag dem i ditt namn som du har gett mig. Jag skyddade dem så att ingen av dem gick förlorad utom den som skulle gå förlorad, så att Skriften skulle gå i uppfyllelse.
13 Nu kommer jag till dig men detta säger jag medan jag är kvar i världen, så att de ska bli helt fyllda av min glädje. 14 Jag har fört ditt ord vidare till dem. Och världen har hatat dem därför att de inte tillhör den här världen liksom jag inte heller tillhör den. 15 Jag ber inte att du ska ta bort dem från världen utan att du ska bevara dem från den Onde[a]. 16 De tillhör inte den här världen liksom jag inte tillhör den. 17 Helga dem i sanningen! Ditt ord är sanning. 18 Så som du sände mig till världen, sänder jag ut dem i världen. 19 Och för deras skull helgar jag mig för att de ska vara helgade i sanningen.
Jesus ber för alla troende
20 Men jag ber inte bara för dem utan också för alla som börjar tro på mig genom deras ord. 21 Jag ber att de alla ska bli ett så som du, Fader, är i mig och jag i dig. Låt dem vara i oss så att världen kan tro att du har sänt mig. 22 Den härlighet du gav mig, den har jag gett till dem för att de ska bli ett så som vi är ett, 23 jag i dem och du i mig, så att deras enhet blir fullkomlig. Då ska världen förstå att du har sänt mig och att du älskar dem så som du har älskat mig. 24 Fader, jag vill att de som du har gett mig ska vara med mig där jag är, så att de kan se den härlighet du gav mig eftersom du älskade mig redan innan världen skapades.
25 Rättfärdige Fader, världen känner dig inte men jag gör det och de vet att du har sänt mig. 26 Jag har låtit dem lära känna dig och jag ska fortsätta att göra det, så att den kärlek som du har älskat mig med ska vara i dem och jag i dem.”

The High Priestly Prayer
17 When Jesus had spoken these words, (A)he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, (B)the hour has come; (C)glorify your Son that the Son may (D)glorify you, 2 since (E)you have given him authority over all flesh, (F)to give eternal life to all (G)whom you have given him. 3 (H)And this is eternal life, (I)that they know you, (J)the only (K)true God, and (L)Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I (M)glorified you on earth, (N)having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, (O)glorify me in your own presence with the glory (P)that I had with you (Q)before the world existed.
6 (R)“I have manifested your name to the people (S)whom you gave me out of the world. (T)Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything (U)that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them (V)the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that (W)I came from you; and (X)they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. (Y)I am not praying for the world but for those (Z)whom you have given me, for (AA)they are yours. 10 (AB)All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and (AC)I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but (AD)they are in the world, and (AE)I am coming to you. 20 “I do not (BG)ask for these only, but also for those (BH)who will believe in me through their word, 21 (BI)that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that (BJ)they also may be in (BK)us, so that the world (BL)may believe that you have sent me. 22 (BM)The glory that you have given me (BN)I have given to them, (BO)that they may be one even as we are one, 23 (BP)I in them and you in me, (BQ)that they may become perfectly one, (BR)so that the world may know that you sent me and (BS)loved them even as (BT)you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be (BU)with me (BV)where I am, (BW)to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me (BX)before the foundation of the world. 25 (BY)O righteous Father, even though (BZ)the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 (CA)I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love (CB)with which you have loved me may be in them, and (CC)I in them.”
