13 逾越节之前，耶稣知道自己快要离开世界回到父那里了。祂一直爱世上属自己的人，并且爱他们到底。 2 吃晚饭的时候，魔鬼已经把出卖耶稣的念头放在加略人西门的儿子犹大的心里。 3 耶稣知道父将一切交给了祂，也知道自己从上帝那里来、要回到上帝那里， 4 就离席站起来，脱了外衣，把毛巾束在腰间， 5 然后倒了一盆水为门徒洗脚，用束在腰间的毛巾擦干。 6 轮到西门·彼得的时候，他说：“主啊！你要洗我的脚吗？”
7 耶稣回答说：“我这样做，你现在虽然不明白，将来一定会明白。”
8 彼得说：“你绝对不可以洗我的脚。”

12 耶稣给门徒洗完了脚，便穿上外衣再次坐下来，然后问道：“我为你们做的，你们明白吗？ 13 你们称呼我‘老师’，也称呼我‘主’，你们称呼得对，因为我是。 14 我是你们的老师又是你们的主，尚且给你们洗脚，你们更应当彼此洗脚。 15 我给你们立了一个榜样，好让你们效法我。
16 “我实实在在地告诉你们，奴仆不能大过主人，受差遣的也不能大过差遣他的人。 17 既然你们明白这个道理，如果去实践，就有福了。 18 我这话不是对你们每一个人说的，我知道我拣选了谁，但这是为了要应验圣经上的话，‘吃我饭的人用脚踢我。’[a] 19 我在事情还没有发生之前，预先告诉你们，等事情发生以后，你们就会相信我是基督。 20 我实实在在地告诉你们，人若接待我所差遣的，就是接待我；接待我，就是接待差我来的那位。”

21 说完这番话，耶稣心里忧伤，便宣布说：“我实实在在地告诉你们，你们中间有一个人要出卖我。” 22 门徒面面相觑，不知道耶稣指的是谁。 23-24 西门·彼得向耶稣所爱的那个门徒点头示意，让他问耶稣到底是谁要出卖祂。那门徒坐在耶稣旁边， 25 便顺势靠过去问耶稣：“主啊，是谁呢？”
26 耶稣回答说：“我蘸一点饼给谁，就是谁。”耶稣就蘸了一点饼，递给加略人西门的儿子犹大。 27 犹大吃了以后，撒旦就进了他的心。耶稣对他说：“你要做的事，赶快去做吧！” 28 同桌吃饭的人没有人明白耶稣这话的意思。 29 因为犹大是管钱的，有人以为耶稣是叫他去买过节的用品，或者去周济穷人。 30 犹大吃过那块饼后，立刻出去了。那时候是晚上。
新命令
31 犹大出去以后，耶稣就说：“现在人子得到荣耀了，上帝在人子身上也得了荣耀。 32 上帝既然在人子身上得了荣耀，也要让人子在祂身上得荣耀，并且马上要使人子得荣耀。 33 孩子们，我与你们同在的时间不多了，以后你们要找我，但我去的地方，你们不能去。这句话我以前对犹太人说过，现在也照样告诉你们。 34 我赐给你们一条新命令——你们要彼此相爱。我怎样爱你们，你们也要怎样彼此相爱。 35 你们如果彼此相爱，世人就会认出你们是我的门徒。”
预言彼得不认主
36 西门·彼得问耶稣：“主啊，你要到哪里去？”
耶稣回答说：“我要去的地方，你现在不能跟我去，但将来必定跟我去。”
37 彼得说：“主啊！为什么我现在不能跟你去呢？就是为你死，我也愿意！”
38 耶稣说：“你真的愿意为我死吗？我实实在在地告诉你，鸡叫以前，你会三次不认我。”

Jesus Washes His Followers’ Feet
13 It was almost time for the Jewish Passover festival. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go back to the Father. Jesus had always loved the people in the world who were his. Now was the time he showed them his love the most.
2 Jesus and his followers were at the evening meal. The devil had already persuaded Judas Iscariot to hand Jesus over to his enemies. (Judas was the son of Simon.) 3 The Father had given Jesus power over everything. Jesus knew this. He also knew that he had come from God. And he knew that he was going back to God. 4 So while they were eating, Jesus stood up and took off his robe. He got a towel and wrapped it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers’ feet.[a] He dried their feet with the towel that was wrapped around his waist.
6 He came to Simon Peter. But Peter said to him, “Lord, you should not wash my feet.”
7 Jesus answered, “You don’t know what I am doing now. But later you will understand.”
8 Peter said, “No! You will never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “If I don’t wash your feet, you are not one of my people.”
9 Simon Peter said, “Lord, after you wash my feet, wash my hands and my head too!”
10 Jesus said, “After a person has a bath, his whole body is clean. He needs only to wash his feet. And you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 Jesus knew who would hand him over to his enemies. That is why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
12 When Jesus finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and went back to the table. He asked, “Do you understand what I did for you? 13 You call me ‘Teacher.’ And you call me ‘Lord.’ And this is right, because that is what I am. 14 I am your Lord and Teacher. But I washed your feet. So you also should wash each other’s feet. 15 I did this as an example for you. So you should serve each other just as I served you. 16 Believe me, servants are not greater than their master. Those who are sent to do something are not greater than the one who sent them. 17 If you know these things, great blessings will be yours if you do them.
18 “I am not talking about all of you. I know the people I have chosen. But what the Scriptures say must happen: ‘The man who shared my food has turned against me.’[b] 19 I am telling you this now before it happens. Then when it happens, you will believe that I Am.[c] 20 I assure you, whoever accepts the person I send also accepts me. And whoever accepts me also accepts the one who sent me.”
Jesus Tells Who Will Turn Against Him(A)
21 After Jesus said these things, he felt very troubled. He said openly, “Believe me when I say that one of you will hand me over to my enemies.”
22 His followers all looked at each other. They did not understand who Jesus was talking about. 23 One of the followers was next to Jesus and was leaning close to him. This was the one Jesus loved very much. 24 Simon Peter made signs to this follower to ask Jesus who he was talking about.
25 That follower leaned closer to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesus answered him, “I will dip this bread into the dish. The man I give it to is the one.” So Jesus took a piece of bread, dipped it, and gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27 When Judas took the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus said to Judas, “What you will do—do it quickly!” 28 No one at the table understood why Jesus said this to Judas. 29 Since Judas was the one in charge of the money, some of them thought that Jesus meant for him to go and buy some things they needed for the feast. Or they thought that Jesus wanted him to go give something to the poor.
30 Judas ate the bread Jesus gave him. Then he immediately went out. It was night.
Jesus Talks About His Death
31 When Judas was gone, Jesus said, “Now is the time for the Son of Man to receive his glory. And God will receive glory through him. 32 If God receives glory through him, he will give glory to the Son through himself. And that will happen very soon.”
33 Jesus said, “My children, I will be with you only a short time more. You will look for me, but I tell you now what I told the Jewish leaders: Where I am going you cannot come.
34 “I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other just as I loved you. 35 All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.”
Jesus Says Peter Will Deny Him(B)
36 Simon Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, where are you going?”
Jesus answered, “Where I am going you cannot follow now. But you will follow later.”
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I am ready to die for you!”
38 Jesus answered, “Will you really give your life for me? The truth is, before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”

- John 13:5 wash … feet A social custom of the first century, because people wore open sandals on very dusty roads. It was a humble duty, usually done by a servant. Also in verses 6-14.
- John 13:18 has turned against me Literally, “has lifted up his heel against me.” Quote from Ps. 41:9.
- John 13:19 I Am This is like the name of God used in the Old Testament. See Isa. 41:4; 43:10; Ex. 3:14. However, it can also mean “I am he,” meaning “I am the Messiah.”

Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet
13 Now (A)before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that (B)His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He (C)loved them to the end.
2 And [a]supper being ended, (D)the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing (E)that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He (F)had come from God and (G)was going to God, 4 (H)rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, (I)“Lord, are You washing my feet?”
7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you (J)do not understand now, (K)but you will know after this.”
8 Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, (L)“If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and (M)you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For (N)He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”

Jesus Identifies His Betrayer(U)
18 “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the (V)Scripture may be fulfilled, (W)‘He who eats [c]bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’ 19 (X)Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He. 20 (Y)Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
21 (Z)When Jesus had said these things, (AA)He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (AB)one of you will betray Me.” 22 Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke.
23 Now (AC)there was [d]leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. 24 Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke.
25 Then, leaning [e]back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to (AD)Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27 (AE)Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. 29 For some thought, because (AF)Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.
30 Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night.
The New Commandment
31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, (AG)“Now the Son of Man is glorified, and (AH)God is glorified in Him. 32 If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and (AI)glorify Him immediately. 33 Little children, I shall be with you a (AJ)little while longer. You will seek Me; (AK)and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you. 34 (AL)A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 (AM)By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
36 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”
Jesus answered him, “Where I (AN)am going you cannot follow Me now, but (AO)you shall follow Me afterward.”
37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will (AP)lay down my life for Your sake.”
38 Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not (AQ)crow till you have denied Me three times.
