Chúa Giê-xu rửa chân các môn đệ
13 Đại lễ Vượt Qua của dân Do-thái sắp đến, Chúa Giê-xu biết rằng đã đến giờ Ngài phải rời thế gian để trở về cùng Cha. Ngài đã yêu những kẻ thuộc về mình trong thế gian thì cũng sẽ yêu cho đến cùng.
2 Chúa Giê-xu và các môn đệ đang dùng bữa ăn tối. Ma quỉ đã dụ Giu-đa Ít-ca-ri-ốt, con Xi-môn để phản bội Ngài. 3 Chúa Giê-xu biết Cha đã giao trọn quyền cho mình. Ngài đã từ Thượng Đế đến và sẽ trở về cùng Thượng Đế. 4 Nên đang bữa ăn, Ngài đứng dậy khỏi bàn, cởi áo ngoài, lấy khăn quấn ngang hông. 5 Rồi Ngài đổ nước vào chậu và bắt đầu rửa chân [a] các môn đệ, xong lấy khăn đã quấn ngang hông mà lau.
6 Khi Ngài đến cùng Xi-môn Phia-rơ thì ông hỏi, “Chúa mà rửa chân cho con sao?”
7 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Hiện nay con chưa hiểu điều ta làm nhưng về sau sẽ hiểu.”
8 Phia-rơ khăng khăng từ chối, “Con sẽ không bao giờ để thầy rửa chân con!”
Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Nếu ta không rửa chân cho con thì con sẽ không phải là môn đệ của ta nữa.”
9 Xi-môn Phia-rơ thưa, “Thưa Chúa, nếu thế thì không những rửa chân thôi, sẵn rửa tay và gội đầu luôn đi!”
10 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Ai tắm rồi thì toàn thân được sạch. Chỉ cần rửa chân mà thôi. Các con đã sạch, nhưng không phải tất cả đều sạch đâu.” 11 Chúa Giê-xu đã biết ai sẽ phản Ngài cho nên Ngài nói, “Không phải tất cả các con đều được sạch.”
12 Sau khi rửa chân xong cho các môn đệ, Ngài mặc áo lại và trở về bàn ăn. Ngài hỏi, “Các con có hiểu điều ta vừa làm cho các con không? 13 Các con gọi ta là thầy là Chúa rất đúng, vì ta là Chúa. 14 Vậy nếu ta là Chúa là thầy mà đã rửa chân cho các con thì các con cũng hãy rửa chân lẫn cho nhau. 15 Vì ta đã nêu cho các con một gương, để các con theo đó mà đối xử với nhau. 16 Ta bảo thật, kẻ nô lệ không thể lớn hơn chủ mình. Sứ giả cũng không thể lớn hơn người sai mình đi. 17 Nếu các con biết sự thật ấy và làm theo thì các con sẽ có phúc!
18 Ta không nói về tất cả các con. Ta biết những người ta đã chọn. Nhưng lời Thánh Kinh đã viết phải được thành tựu: ‘Người đã ăn chung bàn ta giơ chân đạp ta.’ [b] 19 Nay ta bảo cho các con biết chuyện ấy trước khi xảy ra để khi nó đến thì các con sẽ tin ta là Đấng ấy [c]. 20 Ta bảo thật, ai tiếp đón kẻ ta sai tức là tiếp đón ta, còn ai tiếp đón ta tức là tiếp đón Đấng đã sai ta đến.”
Chúa Giê-xu cho biết kẻ phản Ngài(A)
21 Nói xong thì tâm thần Ngài bối rối. Chúa Giê-xu tuyên bố công khai, “Ta bảo thật, một người trong các con sẽ phản ta.”
22 Các môn đệ nhìn nhau hoang mang, không hiểu Ngài nói về ai. 23 Một trong những môn đệ, tức người được Ngài yêu, đang ngồi cạnh Ngài. 24 Xi-môn Phia-rơ ra hiệu cho môn đệ ấy hỏi Chúa Giê-xu xem Ngài muốn ám chỉ ai.
25 Vì thế môn đệ ấy nghiêng lại gần Chúa Giê-xu và hỏi, “Thưa Chúa, người đó là ai vậy?”
26 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Ta sẽ nhúng miếng bánh nầy vào dĩa nước chấm. Ta trao cho ai thì đó là người phản ta.” Ngài lấy miếng bánh, nhúng vào nước chấm và trao cho Giu-đa Ít-ca-ri-ốt, con Xi-môn. 27 Khi Giu-đa vừa nhận miếng bánh xong, Sa-tăng liền nhập vào hắn. Chúa Giê-xu bảo hắn, “Việc anh làm hãy làm mau lên!” 28 Nhưng không ai trong những người ngồi ăn hiểu tại sao Ngài nói như thế với Giu-đa. 29 Vì Giu-đa giữ hộp tiền nên vài môn đệ tưởng Ngài bảo anh ta đi mua đồ cần dùng cho kỳ lễ hoặc đi giúp đỡ người nghèo.
30 Khi Giu-đa nhận miếng bánh xong liền đi ra. Lúc ấy trời sập tối.
Chúa Giê-xu nói về cái chết của Ngài
31 Sau khi Giu-đa đi rồi, Chúa Giê-xu nói, “Bây giờ Con Người đã được hiển vinh và Thượng Đế cũng được hiển vinh qua Ngài. 32 Nếu Thượng Đế được hiển vinh qua Ngài thì Thượng Đế sẽ ban vinh hiển cho Con Người qua Ngài, và Ngài sẽ làm điều ấy tức khắc.
33 Các con ơi, ta chỉ còn ở với các con ít lâu nữa thôi. Các con sẽ tìm ta và bây giờ ta nói với các con điều mà ta đã nói với người Do-thái: Các con không thể đến được nơi ta đi.
34 Ta cho các con một mệnh lệnh mới: Hãy yêu thương nhau. Các con hãy yêu nhau như ta đã yêu các con. 35 Nếu các con yêu nhau thì mọi người sẽ biết các con là môn đệ ta.”
Chúa Giê-xu cho biết Phia-rơ sẽ chối Ngài(B)
36 Xi-môn Phia-rơ hỏi Ngài, “Thưa Chúa, Chúa đi đâu?”
Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Nơi ta đi hiện nay con không thể theo, nhưng sau nầy con sẽ đi theo ta.”
37 Phia-rơ thắc mắc, “Thưa Chúa, tại sao con không thể theo thầy bây giờ được? Con sẵn sàng chết vì thầy kia mà!”
38 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Con sẵn sàng chết vì ta sao? Ta bảo thật, trước khi gà gáy con sẽ ba lần chối không biết ta.”

- Giăng 13:5 rửa chân Một phong tục vào thế kỷ thứ nhất vì lúc đó người ta mang dép đi trên đường sá đầy bụi. Vì thế việc rửa chân là một bổn phận thấp hèn, thường chỉ dành cho đầy tớ làm mà thôi. Xem thêm các câu 6-14.

13 逾越節之前，耶穌知道自己快要離開世界回到父那裡了。祂一直愛世上屬自己的人，並且愛他們到底。 2 吃晚飯的時候，魔鬼已經把出賣耶穌的念頭放在加略人西門的兒子猶大的心裡。 3 耶穌知道父將一切交給了祂，也知道自己從上帝那裡來、要回到上帝那裡， 4 就離席站起來，脫了外衣，把毛巾束在腰間， 5 然後倒了一盆水為門徒洗腳，用束在腰間的毛巾擦乾。 6 輪到西門·彼得的時候，他說：「主啊！你要洗我的腳嗎？」
7 耶穌回答說：「我這樣做，你現在雖然不明白，將來一定會明白。」
8 彼得說：「你絕對不可以洗我的腳。」
耶穌說：「如果我不洗你的腳，你就和我沒有關係了。」
9 西門·彼得說：「主啊，不只我的腳，連我的手和頭也幫我洗吧。」
10 耶穌說：「洗過澡的人全身是乾淨的，只要洗洗腳就好了。你們是乾淨的，但不是每一個都乾淨。」
11 因為耶穌知道誰要出賣祂，所以說：「你們不是每一個都乾淨。」
12 耶穌給門徒洗完了腳，便穿上外衣再次坐下來，然後問道：「我為你們做的，你們明白嗎？ 13 你們稱呼我『老師』，也稱呼我『主』，你們稱呼得對，因為我是。 14 我是你們的老師又是你們的主，尚且給你們洗腳，你們更應當彼此洗腳。 15 我給你們立了一個榜樣，好讓你們效法我。
16 「我實實在在地告訴你們，奴僕不能大過主人，受差遣的也不能大過差遣他的人。 17 既然你們明白這個道理，如果去實踐，就有福了。 18 我這話不是對你們每一個人說的，我知道我揀選了誰，但這是為了要應驗聖經上的話，『吃我飯的人用腳踢我』[a]。 19 我在事情還沒有發生之前，預先告訴你們，等事情發生以後，你們就會相信我是基督。 20 我實實在在地告訴你們，人若接待我所差遣的，就是接待我；接待我，就是接待差我來的那位。」
預言猶大賣主
21 說完這番話，耶穌心裡憂傷，便宣佈說：「我實實在在地告訴你們，你們中間有一個人要出賣我。」 22 門徒面面相覷，不知道耶穌指的是誰。 23-24 西門·彼得向耶穌所愛的那個門徒點頭示意，讓他問耶穌到底是誰要出賣祂。那門徒坐在耶穌旁邊， 25 便順勢靠過去問耶穌：「主啊，是誰呢？」
26 耶穌回答說：「我蘸一點餅給誰，就是誰。」耶穌就蘸了一點餅，遞給加略人西門的兒子猶大。 27 猶大吃了以後，撒旦就進了他的心。耶穌對他說：「你要做的事，趕快去做吧！」 28 同桌吃飯的人沒有人明白耶穌這話的意思。 29 因為猶大是管錢的，有人以為耶穌是叫他去買過節的用品，或者去賙濟窮人。 30 猶大吃過那塊餅後，立刻出去了。那時候是晚上。
新命令
31 猶大出去以後，耶穌就說：「現在人子得到榮耀了，上帝在人子身上也得了榮耀。 32 上帝既然在人子身上得了榮耀，也要讓人子在祂身上得榮耀，並且馬上要使人子得榮耀。 33 孩子們，我與你們同在的時間不多了，以後你們要找我，但我去的地方，你們不能去。這句話我以前對猶太人說過，現在也照樣告訴你們。 34 我賜給你們一條新命令——你們要彼此相愛。我怎樣愛你們，你們也要怎樣彼此相愛。 35 你們如果彼此相愛，世人就會認出你們是我的門徒。」
預言彼得不認主
36 西門·彼得問耶穌：「主啊，你要到哪裡去？」
耶穌回答說：「我要去的地方，你現在不能跟我去，但將來必定跟我去。」
37 彼得說：「主啊！為什麼我現在不能跟你去呢？就是為你死，我也願意！」
38 耶穌說：「你真的願意為我死嗎？我實實在在地告訴你，雞叫以前，你會三次不認我。」

Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet
13 It was just before the Passover Festival.(A) Jesus knew that the hour had come(B) for him to leave this world and go to the Father.(C) Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.(D) 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power,(E) and that he had come from God(F) and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.(G) 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet,(H) drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”(I)
8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean,(J) though not every one of you.”(K) 11 For he knew who was going to betray him,(L) and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’(M) and ‘Lord,’(N) and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.(O) 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.(P) 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master,(Q) nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.(R)
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
18 “I am not referring to all of you;(S) I know those I have chosen.(T) But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture:(U) ‘He who shared my bread(V) has turned[a](W) against me.’[b](X)
19 “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe(Y) that I am who I am.(Z) 20 Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”(AA)
21 After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit(AB) and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.”(AC)
22 His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. 23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved,(AD) was reclining next to him. 24 Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”
25 Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, “Lord, who is it?”(AE)
26 Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas,(AF) the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.(AG)
So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” 28 But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. 29 Since Judas had charge of the money,(AH) some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival,(AI) or to give something to the poor.(AJ) 30 As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.(AK)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(AL)
31 When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man(AM) is glorified(AN) and God is glorified in him.(AO) 32 If God is glorified in him,[c] God will glorify the Son in himself,(AP) and will glorify him at once.
33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.(AQ)
34 “A new command(AR) I give you: Love one another.(AS) As I have loved you, so you must love one another.(AT) 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”(AU)
36 Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?”(AV)
Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now,(AW) but you will follow later.”(AX)
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”
38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!(AY)

Jesus Washes His Followers’ Feet
13 It was almost time for the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that it was time for him to leave this world and go back to the Father. He had always loved those who were his own in the world, and he loved them all the way to the end.
2 Jesus and his followers were at the evening meal. The devil had already persuaded Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to turn against Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had given him power over everything and that he had come from God and was going back to God. 4 So during the meal Jesus stood up and took off his outer clothing. Taking a towel, he wrapped it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a bowl and began to wash the followers’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 Jesus came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus answered, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but you will understand later.”
8 Peter said, “No, you will never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “If I don’t wash your feet, you are not one of my people.”
9 Simon Peter answered, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but wash my hands and my head, too!”
10 Jesus said, “After a person has had a bath, his whole body is clean. He needs only to wash his feet. And you men are clean, but not all of you.” 11 Jesus knew who would turn against him, and that is why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and sat down again. He asked, “Do you understand what I have just done for you? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that is what I am. 14 If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash each other’s feet. 15 I did this as an example so that you should do as I have done for you. 16 I tell you the truth, a servant is not greater than his master. A messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
18 “I am not talking about all of you. I know those I have chosen. But this is to bring about what the Scripture said: ‘The man who ate at my table has turned against me.’[a] 19 I am telling you this now before it happens so that when it happens, you will believe that I am he. 20 I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send also accepts me. And whoever accepts me also accepts the One who sent me.”
Jesus Talks About His Death
21 After Jesus said this, he was very troubled. He said openly, “I tell you the truth, one of you will turn against me.”
22 The followers all looked at each other, because they did not know whom Jesus was talking about. 23 One of the followers sitting[b] next to Jesus was the follower Jesus loved. 24 Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus whom he was talking about.
25 That follower leaned closer to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesus answered, “I will dip this bread into the dish. The man I give it to is the man who will turn against me.” So Jesus took a piece of bread, dipped it, and gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus said to him, “The thing that you will do—do it quickly.” 28 No one at the table understood why Jesus said this to Judas. 29 Since he was the one who kept the money box, some of the followers thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast or to give something to the poor.
30 Judas took the bread Jesus gave him and immediately went out. It was night.
31 When Judas was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man receives his glory, and God receives glory through him. 32 If God receives glory through him,[c] then God will give glory to the Son through himself. And God will give him glory quickly.”
33 Jesus said, “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and what I told the Jews, I tell you now: Where I am going you cannot come.
34 “I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. 35 All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.”
Peter Will Say He Doesn’t Know Jesus
36 Simon Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, where are you going?”
Jesus answered, “Where I am going you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”
37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I am ready to die for you!”
38 Jesus answered, “Are you ready to die for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”
