约书亚的遗言

23 耶和华使以色列人得享平安，不受四围仇敌的骚扰，已经有一段很长的日子；约书亚已经老了，年纪不小了。 ²约书亚就把全体以色列人、他们的长老、首领、审判官和官长，都召了来，对他们说：“我已经老了，年纪不小了。 ³耶和华你们的　神，因你们的缘故，向那些国家所行的一切事，你们都亲眼看见了；因为耶和华你们的　神为你们作战。 ⁴你们看，剩下来的这些国家，连同我剪除的列国，从约旦河起，直到日落之处的大海，我都按着你们各支派，用抽签的方式，分给你们作产业了。 ⁵耶和华你们的　神必把他们从你们面前赶出去，驱逐他们离开你们，你们就必得着他们的地作产业，正如耶和华你们的　神所应许的。 ⁶所以你们要十分坚强，谨守遵行写在摩西律法书上的一切话，使你们不偏向左，不偏向右； ⁷使你们不与你们中间剩下的这些国家的人来往；他们的神的名字，你们不可提，不可指着他们起誓，不可事奉他们，也不可敬拜他们； ⁸只要照着你们一直以来所行的，紧紧倚靠耶和华你们的　神。 ⁹因为耶和华已经把又大又强的列国从你们面前赶出去；至于你们，直到今日，还没有一人能在你们面前站立得住。 ¹⁰你们一人可以追赶千人，因为耶和华你们的　神，照着他应许你们的，为你们作战。 ¹¹你们自己要十分谨慎，爱耶和华你们的　神。 ¹²如果你们转离耶和华，与你们中间剩下的这些国家的余民联络，和他们通婚，互相来往， ¹³你们就必知道，耶和华你们的　神必不再把这些国家从你们面前赶出去；他们必要成为你们的网罗和陷阱，肋下的鞭和眼中的刺，直到你们从耶和华你们的　神赐给你们的这美地上灭亡为止。

¹⁴“看哪，我今天要走世人必经的路了。你们清清楚楚（“清清楚楚”原文作“一心一意”）知道耶和华你们的　神应许赐福给你们的话，没有一句落空；完全应验在你们身上，没有一句落空。 ¹⁵耶和华你们的　神应许你们的一切福气怎样临到你们身上，耶和华也必照样使各样的灾祸临到你们身上，直到把你们从耶和华你们的　神赐给你们的这美地上消灭为止。 ¹⁶如果你们违背了耶和华你们的　神吩咐你们遵守的约，去事奉别的神，敬拜他们，耶和华必向你们大发烈怒，使你们从他赐给你们的美地上迅速灭亡。”

Joshua’s Farewell Address

23 Now it came to pass, a long time after the Lord ^(A)had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua ^(B)was old, advanced in age. ²And Joshua ^(C)called for all Israel, for their elders, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers, and said to them:

“I am old, advanced in age. ³You have seen all that the ^(D)Lord your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the ^(E)Lord your God is He who has fought for you. ⁴See, ^(F)I have divided to you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, as far as the Great Sea westward. ⁵And the Lord your God ^(G)will expel them from before you and drive them out of your sight. So you shall possess their land, ^(H)as the Lord your God promised you. ⁶^(I)Therefore be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, ^(J)lest you turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left, ⁷and lest you ^(K)go^[a] among these nations, these who remain among you. You shall not ^(L)make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause anyone to ^(M)swear by them; you shall not ^(N)serve them nor bow down to them, ⁸but you shall ^(O)hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day. ⁹^(P)For the Lord has ^[b]driven out from before you great and strong nations; but as for you, no one has been able to stand against you to this day. ¹⁰^(Q)One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, ^(R)as He promised you. ¹¹^(S)Therefore take careful heed to yourselves, that you love the Lord your God. ¹²Or else, if indeed you do ^(T)go back, and cling to the remnant of these nations—these that remain among you—and ^(U)make marriages with them, and go in to them and they to you, ¹³know for certain that ^(V)the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. ^(W)But they shall be snares and traps to you, and scourges on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

¹⁴“Behold, this day ^(X)I^[c] am going the way of all the earth. And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that ^(Y)not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed. ¹⁵^(Z)Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all the good things have come upon you which the Lord your God promised you, so the Lord will bring upon you ^(AA)all harmful things, until He has destroyed you from this good land which the Lord your God has given you. ¹⁶^[d]When you have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the ^(AB)anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.”

Josuas sista budskap till folket

(23:1—24:33)

23 Långt senare, när Herren hade låtit Israel få ro för alla sina fiender och när Josua blivit mycket gammal, ²sammankallade Josua hela Israel tillsammans med de äldste, ledarna, domarna och förmännen och sa till dem: ”Jag är nu en gammal man. ³Ni har själva sett allt som Herren, er Gud, har gjort med alla dessa folk för er skull. Han har kämpat för er. ⁴Ni har sett hur jag har genom lottning delat ut åt era stammar som egendom både de kvarvarande folkens landområden och de utrotade folkens områden från floden Jordan till Medelhavet, ⁵för Herren, er Gud, kommer att driva bort alla de folk som nu bor där. Ni ska erövra hela deras land precis som Herren, er Gud, har lovat.

⁶Var nu starka! Se till att ni följer allt som står skrivet i Moses lagbok! Vik inte av från det åt något håll! ⁷Beblanda er inte med de folk som fortfarande bor kvar i landet. Ni får inte vända er till deras gudar och svära vid dem eller tillbe och tjäna dem. ⁸Följ istället Herren, er Gud, som ni hittills gjort! ⁹Han har drivit undan stora och mäktiga folk för er och ingen har kunnat stå emot er. ¹⁰Var och en av er kan få tusen fiender på flykten, för Herren, er Gud, strider för er, så som han har lovat. ¹¹Se därför till att ni fortsätter att älska Herren, er Gud!

¹²Om ni vänder er bort och börjar beblanda er med andra folk som finns kvar hos er och gifter er med dem, ¹³ska ni veta att Herren, er Gud, inte längre tänker driva bort dessa folk framför er. Istället kommer de att bli en snara och en fälla för er, en piska på er rygg och taggar i era ögon och ni kommer att utplånas från detta goda land som Herren, er Gud, har gett er.

¹⁴Det är snart dags för mig att lämna den här världen och ni vet av hela ert hjärta och med hela er själ att inte ett ord har slagit fel av allt det goda som Herren, er Gud, lovat er. Alla Guds löften till er har gått i uppfyllelse. ¹⁵Men lika säkert som att Herren, er Gud, har gett er allt gott han lovade, lika säkert kan han låta det onda drabba er, tills han utplånat er från detta goda land som han själv har gett er. ¹⁶Om ni bryter Herrens, er Guds, förbund som han befallt er att hålla och tjänar och tillber andra gudar, kommer Herrens vrede mot er att bli fruktansvärd och han kommer snabbt att förgöra er från det goda land han har gett er.”
