耶穌是道路、真理、生命
14 耶穌繼續說：「你們心裡不要憂愁，你們要信上帝，也要信我。 2 我父的家裡有許多住處，不然我就不會說去為你們安排地方了。 3 我安排好了以後，必定回來接你們到我那裡。我在哪裡，讓你們也在哪裡。 4 你們知道通往我要去的地方的路。」
5 多馬說：「主啊，你要去哪裡，我們還不知道，又怎麼會知道路呢？」
6 耶穌說：「我就是道路、真理、生命，若不藉著我，沒有人能到父那裡。 7 你們若認識我，也會認識我的父。從現在起，你們不但認識祂，而且也看見祂了。」
8 腓力說：「主啊！求你讓我們看看父，我們就心滿意足了。」
9 耶穌說：「腓力，我和你們相處了這麼久，你還不認識我嗎？人看見了我，就看見了父，你怎麼說『讓我們看看父』呢？ 10 難道你不相信我在父裡面，父也在我裡面嗎？我這些話不是憑自己講的，而是住在我裡面的父在做祂自己的工作。 11 你們應當相信我在父裡面，父也在我裡面。即使你們不信，也應該因我所做的而信我。 12 我實實在在地告訴你們，我所做的事，信我的人也要做，而且要做更大的事，因為我要回到父那裡。 13 你們奉我的名無論求什麼，我必應允，好讓父在子身上得到榮耀。 14 你們若奉我的名向我求什麼，我必應允。

15 「你們若愛我，就必遵守我的命令。 16 我要求父另外賜一位護慰者給你們，祂要永遠和你們同在。 17 祂是真理的靈，世人不接受祂，因為他們看不見祂，也不認識祂；但你們卻認識祂，因祂常與你們同在，並且要住在你們裡面。 18 我不會撇下你們為孤兒，我必到你們這裡來。 19 不久，世人就看不見我了，而你們卻能看見我，因為我活著，你們也要活著。 20 到了那一天，你們就知道我在父裡面，你們在我裡面，我也在你們裡面。 21 接受我的命令又遵行的，就是愛我的人。愛我的，父必定愛他，我也要愛他，並且要親自向他顯現。」
22 猶大，不是後來出賣耶穌的猶大，問耶穌：「主啊，你為什麼只向我們顯現而不向世人顯現呢？」
23 耶穌回答說：「愛我的人必遵行我的道，我父也必愛他，並且我們要到他那裡與他同住。 24 不愛我的人不會遵行我的道。你們所聽見的道不是出於我自己，而是出於差我來的父。 25 我還與你們在一起的時候，將這些事情都告訴了你們。 26 但護慰者，就是父為我的名而差來的聖靈，將教導你們一切的事，並使你們想起我對你們說的一切話。 27 我把平安留給你們，把我的平安賜給你們，我賜給你們的平安不像世人給的平安。你們心裡不要憂愁，也不要害怕。
28 「我對你們說過，我去了還要再回到你們這裡。如果你們真的愛我，就應當為我去父那裡而歡喜快樂，因為父比我大。 29 現在事情還沒有發生，我便先告訴你們，到了事情發生的時候，你們就會相信。 30 我不再跟你們多談，因為世界的王快要來了。他根本沒有力量勝過我， 31 但這是為了讓世人知道我愛父，父怎麼吩咐我，我就怎麼做。起來，我們走吧！」

Jesus Comforts His Followers
14 Jesus said, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. 2 There are many rooms in my Father’s house; I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”[a]
5 Thomas said to Jesus, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. So how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me. 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father, too. But now you do know him, and you have seen him.”
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father. That is all we need.”
9 Jesus answered, “I have been with you a long time now. Do you still not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. So why do you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you don’t come from me, but the Father lives in me and does his own work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or believe because of the miracles I have done. 12 I tell you the truth, whoever believes in me will do the same things that I do. Those who believe will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And if you ask for anything in my name, I will do it for you so that the Father’s glory will be shown through the Son. 14 If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, you will obey my commands. 16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper[b] to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he lives with you and he will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you all alone like orphans; I will come back to you. 19 In a little while the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live, too. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and that you are in me and I am in you. 21 Those who know my commands and obey them are the ones who love me, and my Father will love those who love me. I will love them and will show myself to them.”
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you plan to show yourself to us and not to the rest of the world?”
23 Jesus answered, “If people love me, they will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Those who do not love me do not obey my teaching. This teaching that you hear is not really mine; it is from my Father, who sent me.
25 “I have told you all these things while I am with you. 26 But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.
27 “I leave you peace; my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don’t let your hearts be troubled or afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going, but I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you should be happy that I am going back to the Father, because he is greater than I am. 29 I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it happens, you will believe. 30 I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me, 31 but the world must know that I love the Father, so I do exactly what the Father told me to do.

The Way to the Father
14 “Your heart must not be troubled.(A) Believe[a] in God;(B) believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places;[b] if not, I would have told you. I am going away(C) to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back(D) and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.(E) 4 You know the way to where I am going.”[c](F)
5 “Lord,” Thomas(G) said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am(H) the way,(I) the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Jesus Reveals the Father
7 “If you know Me, you will also know[d] My Father.(J) From now on you do know Him(K) and have seen Him.”
8 “Lord,” said Philip,(L) “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time without your knowing Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father.(M) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me?(N) The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own.(O) The Father who lives in Me does His works.(P) 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe[e] because of the works themselves.(Q)
Praying in Jesus’ Name
12 “I assure you: The one who believes in Me(R) will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these,(S) because I am going to the Father.(T) 13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified(U) in the Son.(V) 14 If you ask Me[f] anything in My name,(W) I will do it.[g](X)
Another Counselor Promised
15 “If you love Me, you will keep[h] My commands.(Y) 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor(Z) to be with you forever. 17 He is the Spirit(AA) of truth.(AB) The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be[i] in you.(AC) 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
19 “In a little while the world will see Me no longer,(AD) but you will see Me.(AE) Because I live, you will live(AF) too. 20 In that day you will know that I am in My Father,(AG) you are in Me, and I am in you. 21 The one who has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me.(AH) And the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father.(AI) I also will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”
22 Judas(AJ) (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it You’re going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”(AK)
23 Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.(AL) 24 The one who doesn’t love Me will not keep My words. The word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me.(AM)
25 “I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit(AN)—the Father will send(AO) Him in My name—will teach you all things(AP) and remind you of everything I have told you.(AQ)
Jesus’ Gift of Peace
27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.(AR) 28 You have heard Me tell you, ‘I am going away(AS) and I am coming to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced that I am going to the Father,(AT) because the Father is greater than I.(AU) 29 I have told you now before it happens(AV) so that when it does happen you may believe. 30 I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world(AW) is coming. He has no power over Me.[j](AX) 31 On the contrary, I am going away[k] so that the world may know that I love the Father. Just as the Father commanded Me, so I do.
