Ruta de los israelitas

33 Éstas son las etapas del viaje que hicieron los israelitas cuando salieron de Egipto en formación militar, guiados por Moisés y Aarón. Moisés iba anotando los nombres de los lugares de donde salían, etapa por etapa, según se lo ordenaba el Señor. Éstas son las etapas con sus puntos de partida.

Los israelitas salieron de Ramsés el día quince del primer mes del año, al día siguiente de la celebración de la Pascua. Salieron con gran poder y a la vista de todos los egipcios, mientras los egipcios estaban enterrando a todos sus hijos mayores, pues el Señor los había hecho morir, con lo cual había dictado sentencia contra sus dioses.

Los israelitas salieron de Ramsés y acamparon en Sucot.

Salieron de Sucot y acamparon en Etam, en los límites del desierto.

Salieron de Etam, dieron la vuelta hacia Pi-hahirot, que está al oriente de Baal-sefón, y acamparon frente a Migdol.

Salieron de Pi-hahirot, cruzaron el mar y llegaron al desierto. Caminaron tres días por el desierto de Etam y acamparon en Mará.

Salieron de Mará y llegaron a Elim, donde había doce manantiales y setenta palmeras, y acamparon allí.

10 Salieron de Elim y acamparon junto al Mar Rojo.

11 Salieron del Mar Rojo y acamparon en el desierto de Sin.

12 Salieron del desierto de Sin y acamparon en Dofcá.

13 Salieron de Dofcá y acamparon en Alús.

14 Salieron de Alús y acamparon en Refidim, donde la gente no tenía agua para beber.

15 Salieron de Refidim y acamparon en el desierto de Sinaí.

16 Salieron del desierto de Sinaí y acamparon en Quibrot-hataavá.

37 Salieron de Cadés y acamparon en el monte Hor, en la frontera con Edom. 38 Por orden del Señor, el sacerdote Aarón subió al monte Hor, y allí murió el día primero del mes quinto del año cuarenta, contando a partir de la fecha en que los israelitas salieron de Egipto. 39 Cuando Aarón murió, en el monte Hor, tenía ciento veintitrés años.

40 El rey cananeo de Arad, que vivía en el Négueb de Canaán, se enteró de la llegada de los israelitas.

41 Salieron del monte Hor y acamparon en Salmoná.

42 Salieron de Salmoná y acamparon en Punón.

43 Salieron de Punón y acamparon en Obot.

44 Salieron de Obot y acamparon en Iié-abarim, en la frontera con Moab.

45 Salieron de Iié-abarim y acamparon en Dibón-gad.

46 Salieron de Dibón-gad y acamparon en Almón-diblataim.

47 Salieron de Almón-diblataim y acamparon en los montes de Abarim, al oriente del Nebo.

48 Salieron de los montes de Abarim y acamparon en las llanuras de Moab, junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó. 49 El campamento junto al Jordán se extendía desde Bet-jesimot hasta Abel-sitim, en las llanuras de Moab.

Normas para la ocupación y repartición de Canaán

50 En las llanuras de Moab, junto al río Jordán, frente a Jericó, el Señor se dirigió a Moisés y le dijo:

51 «Di a los israelitas lo siguiente: Cuando ustedes crucen el Jordán y entren en el país de Canaán, 52 expulsen a todos los habitantes del país, destruyan todas sus estatuas de piedra y de metal fundido, y echen abajo todos los lugares de culto que tienen en las colinas. 53 Conquisten el país y establézcanse en él, porque yo se lo entrego a ustedes para que lo ocupen. 54 Pero deberán repartirlo por suertes entre los clanes de todas las tribus; a los clanes numerosos se les dará un territorio grande, y a los pequeños, un territorio pequeño; cada clan recibirá lo que la suerte le señale. 55 Y si ustedes no expulsan a los habitantes del país, los que se queden allí les molestarán como una astilla en el ojo o como espinas en el cuerpo, cuando ustedes se instalen en el país; 56 entonces yo haré con ustedes lo que pensaba hacer con ellos.»

33 These are the journeys of the children of Israel, when they went out of the land of Egypt by their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. Moses wrote the starting points of their journeys by the commandment of Yahweh. These are their journeys according to their starting points. They traveled from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the next day after the Passover, the children of Israel went out with a high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians, while the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, whom Yahweh had struck among them. Yahweh also executed judgments on their gods. The children of Israel traveled from Rameses, and encamped in Succoth. They traveled from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness. They traveled from Etham, and turned back to Pihahiroth, which is before Baal Zephon, and they encamped before Migdol. They traveled from before Hahiroth, and crossed through the middle of the sea into the wilderness. They went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham, and encamped in Marah. They traveled from Marah, and came to Elim. In Elim, there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there. 10 They traveled from Elim, and encamped by the Red Sea. 11 They traveled from the Red Sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin. 12 They traveled from the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dophkah. 13 They traveled from Dophkah, and encamped in Alush. 14 They traveled from Alush, and encamped in Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink. 15 They traveled from Rephidim, and encamped in the wilderness of Sinai. 16 They traveled from the wilderness of Sinai, and encamped in Kibroth Hattaavah. 17 They traveled from Kibroth Hattaavah, and encamped in Hazeroth. 18 They traveled from Hazeroth, and encamped in Rithmah. 19 They traveled from Rithmah, and encamped in Rimmon Perez. 20 They traveled from Rimmon Perez, and encamped in Libnah. 21 They traveled from Libnah, and encamped in Rissah. 22 They traveled from Rissah, and encamped in Kehelathah. 23 They traveled from Kehelathah, and encamped in Mount Shepher. 24 They traveled from Mount Shepher, and encamped in Haradah. 25 They traveled from Haradah, and encamped in Makheloth. 26 They traveled from Makheloth, and encamped in Tahath. 27 They traveled from Tahath, and encamped in Terah. 28 They traveled from Terah, and encamped in Mithkah. 29 They traveled from Mithkah, and encamped in Hashmonah. 30 They traveled from Hashmonah, and encamped in Moseroth. 31 They traveled from Moseroth, and encamped in Bene Jaakan. 32 They traveled from Bene Jaakan, and encamped in Hor Haggidgad. 33 They traveled from Hor Haggidgad, and encamped in Jotbathah. 34 They traveled from Jotbathah, and encamped in Abronah. 35 They traveled from Abronah, and encamped in Ezion Geber. 36 They traveled from Ezion Geber, and encamped at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin. 37 They traveled from Kadesh, and encamped in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. 38 Aaron the priest went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of Yahweh and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month. 39 Aaron was one hundred twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor. 40 The Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the South in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel. 41 They traveled from Mount Hor, and encamped in Zalmonah. 42 They traveled from Zalmonah, and encamped in Punon. 43 They traveled from Punon, and encamped in Oboth. 44 They traveled from Oboth, and encamped in Iye Abarim, in the border of Moab. 45 They traveled from Iyim, and encamped in Dibon Gad. 46 They traveled from Dibon Gad, and encamped in Almon Diblathaim. 47 They traveled from Almon Diblathaim, and encamped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. 48 They traveled from the mountains of Abarim, and encamped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. 49 They encamped by the Jordan, from Beth Jeshimoth even to Abel Shittim in the plains of Moab. 50 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, 51 Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, “When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their stone idols, destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places. 53 You shall take possession of the land, and dwell therein; for I have given the land to you to possess it. 54 You shall inherit the land by lot according to your families; to the larger groups you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller you shall give a smaller inheritance. Wherever the lot falls to any man, that shall be his. You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers.

55 “But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those you let remain of them will be like pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will harass you in the land in which you dwell. 56 It shall happen that as I thought to do to them, so I will do to you.”

Stages in Israel’s Journey

33 Here are the stages in the journey(A) of the Israelites when they came out of Egypt(B) by divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.(C) At the Lord’s command Moses recorded(D) the stages in their journey(E). This is their journey by stages:

The Israelites set out(F) from Rameses(G) on the fifteenth day of the first month, the day after the Passover.(H) They marched out defiantly(I) in full view of all the Egyptians, who were burying all their firstborn,(J) whom the Lord had struck down among them; for the Lord had brought judgment(K) on their gods.(L)

The Israelites left Rameses and camped at Sukkoth.(M)

They left Sukkoth and camped at Etham, on the edge of the desert.(N)

They left Etham, turned back to Pi Hahiroth, to the east of Baal Zephon,(O) and camped near Migdol.(P)

They left Pi Hahiroth[a](Q) and passed through the sea(R) into the desert, and when they had traveled for three days in the Desert of Etham, they camped at Marah.(S)

They left Marah and went to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped(T) there.

10 They left Elim(U) and camped by the Red Sea.[b]

11 They left the Red Sea and camped in the Desert of Sin.(V)

12 They left the Desert of Sin and camped at Dophkah.

13 They left Dophkah and camped at Alush.

14 They left Alush and camped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.(W)

15 They left Rephidim(X) and camped in the Desert of Sinai.(Y)

16 They left the Desert of Sinai and camped at Kibroth Hattaavah.(Z)

17 They left Kibroth Hattaavah and camped at Hazeroth.(AA)

18 They left Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah.

19 They left Rithmah and camped at Rimmon Perez.

28 They left Terah and camped at Mithkah.

29 They left Mithkah and camped at Hashmonah.

37 They left Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor,(AH) on the border of Edom.(AI) 38 At the Lord’s command Aaron the priest went up Mount Hor, where he died(AJ) on the first day of the fifth month of the fortieth year(AK) after the Israelites came out of Egypt.(AL) 39 Aaron was a hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.

40 The Canaanite king(AM) of Arad,(AN) who lived in the Negev(AO) of Canaan, heard that the Israelites were coming.

41 They left Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.

42 They left Zalmonah and camped at Punon.

43 They left Punon and camped at Oboth.(AP)

44 They left Oboth and camped at Iye Abarim, on the border of Moab.(AQ)

45 They left Iye Abarim and camped at Dibon Gad.

46 They left Dibon Gad and camped at Almon Diblathaim.

47 They left Almon Diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim,(AR) near Nebo.(AS)

48 They left the mountains of Abarim(AT) and camped on the plains of Moab(AU) by the Jordan(AV) across from Jericho.(AW) 49 There on the plains of Moab they camped along the Jordan from Beth Jeshimoth(AX) to Abel Shittim.(AY)

50 On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho(AZ) the Lord said to Moses, 51 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you cross the Jordan into Canaan,(BA) 52 drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places.(BB) 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.(BC) 54 Distribute the land by lot,(BD) according to your clans.(BE) To a larger group give a larger inheritance, and to a smaller group a smaller one.(BF) Whatever falls to them by lot will be theirs. Distribute it according to your ancestral tribes.(BG)

55 “‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns(BH) in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live. 56 And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.(BI)’”
