29 大衛王又對全體會眾說：「我兒所羅門是上帝特別揀選的，但他還年輕，缺乏經驗。建殿的工程浩大，因為這殿不是為人造的，乃是為耶和華上帝造的。 2 我已竭盡所能為我上帝的殿預備了製作金器、銀器、銅器、鐵器和木器所需的金銀銅鐵及木頭，還有大量的瑪瑙、鑲嵌用的寶石、彩石、大理石及其他貴重的石頭。 3 而且，我因為愛慕我上帝的殿，除了預備以上物品外，還把自己珍藏的金銀獻上，用來建造我上帝的殿。 4 我獻上一百噸俄斐金、二百四十噸純銀，用來貼殿牆， 5 供匠人製作金器銀器。今天，有誰樂意向耶和華奉獻？」

6 結果，各族長、以色列各支派的首領、千夫長、百夫長和負責王室事務的官員都樂意奉獻， 7 他們為上帝的殿奉獻了一百七十噸金子，三百四十噸銀子，六百二十噸銅，三千四百噸鐵。 8 有寶石的人都把寶石交到耶和華殿的庫房，由革順人耶歇保管。 9 因為他們誠心誠意地把東西獻給上帝，百姓歡喜不已，大衛王也非常歡喜。

大衛頌讚耶和華

10 大衛在會眾面前頌讚耶和華，說：「我們先祖以色列的上帝耶和華啊，你永永遠遠當受頌讚！ 11 耶和華啊，偉大、權能、榮耀、尊貴和威嚴都是你的，天上地下的一切都是你的。耶和華啊，國度是你的，你是萬有的主宰。 12 富貴和尊榮都從你而來，你掌管一切，你手中有權能和力量，能使人尊大、強盛。 13 我們的上帝啊，我們稱頌你，讚美你榮耀的名。

14 「我算什麼，我的人民算什麼，怎麼配向你奉獻？因為萬物都從你而來，我們只是把從你那裡得來的獻給你。 15 我們在你面前只是客旅，是寄居的，像我們祖先一樣；我們在世的日子就像影子一樣轉瞬即逝。 16 我們的上帝耶和華啊，我們為你的聖名建造殿宇所預備的這一切財物都是從你那裡來的，都屬於你。 17 我的上帝啊，我知道你洞察人心，喜愛正直的人。我懷著正直的心甘願獻上這一切，我也看見你這裡的子民甘心樂意地將財物獻給你。 18 我們祖先亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝耶和華啊！求你使你的子民常存這樣的心志，使他們的心忠於你。 19 求你賜給我兒所羅門忠誠的心，以遵行你的誡命、法度和律例，用我預備的材料全力建造殿宇。」

所羅門被立為王

29 2 The offering of David and of the princes for the building of the Temple. 10 David giveth thanks to the Lord. 20 He exhorteth the people to do the same. 22 Solomon is created king. 28 David dieth, and Solomon his son reigneth in his stead.

1 Moreover, David the King said unto all the Congregation, God hath chosen Solomon mine only son, young and tender, and the work is great: for this house is not for man, but for the [a]Lord God.

2 Now I have prepared with all my power for the house of my God, gold for vessels of gold, and silver for them of silver, and brass for things of brass, iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood, and onyx stones, and stones to be set, and carbuncle stones, and of divers colors, and all precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

3 Moreover, because I have [b]delight in the house of my God, I have of mine own gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, beside all that I have prepared for the house of the Sanctuary,

4 Even [c]three thousand talents of gold of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of fined silver to overlay the walls of the houses.

5 The gold for the things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all the work by the hands of artificers: and who is [d]willing [e]to fill his hand today unto the Lord?

6 So the princes of the families, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly,

7 And they gave for the service of the house of God, five thousand talents of gold, and ten thousand pieces, and ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of brass, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

8 And they with whom precious stones were [f]found, gave them to the treasure of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 And the people rejoiced when they offered willingly: for they offered willingly unto the Lord, with a [g]perfect heart. And David the king also (A)rejoiced with great joy.

10 Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the Congregation, and David said, Blessed be thou, O Lord God of [h]Israel our father, forever and ever.

11 Thine, O Lord, is greatness and power, and glory and victory, and praise: for all that is in heaven and in earth is thine: thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou excellest as head over all.

12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all, and in thine hand is power and strength, and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious Name.

14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer willingly after this sort? for all things [i]come of thee: and of thine own hand we have given thee.

15 For we are [j]strangers before thee, and sojourners like all our fathers: our days are like the shadow upon the earth, and there is none [k]abiding.

16 O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy Name, is of thine hand, and all is thine.

17 I know also my God, that thou (B)triest the heart, and hast pleasure in righteousness: I have offered willingly in the uprightness of mine heart all these things: now also have I seen thy people which are found here, to offer unto thee willingly with joy.

18 O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel our fathers, keep this forever in the [l]purpose, and the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their hearts unto thee.

19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all things, and to build the house which I have prepared.

20 ¶ And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the Lord your God. And all the Congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the Lord and the [m]king.

21 And they offered sacrifices unto the Lord, and on the morrow after that day, they offered burnt offerings unto the Lord, even a thousand young bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand sheep, with their [n]drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

22 And they did eat and drink before the Lord the same day with great joy, and they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him prince before the Lord, and Zadok for the high Priest.

23 So Solomon sat on the [o]throne of the Lord, as king instead of David his father, and prospered: and all Israel obeyed him.

24 And all the princes and men of power, and all the sons of king David [p]submitted themselves under king Solomon.

25 And the Lord magnified Solomon in dignity, in the sight of all Israel, and gave him so glorious a kingdom, as no king had before him in Israel.

26 (C)Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27 And the space that he reigned over Israel, was forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and three and thirty years reigned he in Jerusalem:

28 And he died in a good age, full of days, riches and honor, and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

29 Concerning the acts of David the king, first and last, behold they are written in the book of Samuel the Seer, and in the book of [q]Nathan the Prophet, and in the book of Gad the Seer,

30 With all his reign and his power, and [r]times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the earth.

29 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.

2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

3 Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house.

4 Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal:

5 The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?

6 Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king's work, offered willingly,

7 And gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand drams, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

11 Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.

22 And did eat and drink before the Lord on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the Lord to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.

23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.

25 And the Lord magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.

Gifts for the Building of the House of God

29 Then King David said to all the people, “My son Solomon is the one God has chosen. He is still young and has not had much time to know what to do. It is a very big work because this beautiful house is not for man, but for the Lord God. 2 I have given all that I have been able to give for the house of my God. I have given the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the brass for the things of brass. I have given the iron for the things of iron, and the wood for the things of wood. I have given stones of much worth, stones for setting, silver-white stones, and stones of different colors. I have given all kinds of stones of much worth, and many smooth, special white stones. 3 The house of my God means much to me. I have much gold and silver and I give it to the house of my God, together with all I have already given for the holy house. 4 I gave gold weighing as much as 3,000 men, of the gold of Ophir. I gave fine silver weighing as much as 7,000 men, to cover the walls of the house. 5 I gave gold for the things of gold, and silver for the things of silver for all the work done by the able men. Now who is willing to give himself and be set apart today to the Lord?”

6 Then the rulers of the families gave because they wanted to. The leaders of the family groups of Israel, the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and those who watched over the king’s work gave because they wanted to. 7 For the work of the house of God, they gave gold weighing as much as 5,000 men, and 10,000 gold pieces. They gave silver weighing as much as 10,000 men. They gave brass weighing as much as 18,000 men, and iron weighing as much as 100,000 men. 8 And whoever had stones of much worth gave them to the store-house of the house of the Lord, in the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 Then the people were filled with joy because they had been so willing to give. They gave their gift to the Lord with a whole heart. And King David was filled with great joy.

David’s Praise to God

10 So David praised the Lord in front of all the people. He said, “Honor and thanks be to You, O Lord God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 O Lord, You have great power, shining-greatness and strength. Yes, everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. You are the King, O Lord. And You are honored as head over all. 12 Both riches and honor come from You. You rule over all. Power and strength are in Your hand. The power is in Your hand to make great and to give strength to all. 13 So now, our God, we thank You. We praise Your great and honored name.

14 “But who am I and who are my people, that we should be able to give so much? For all things come from You. We have given You only what already belongs to You. 15 We are strangers before You. We are just staying here for a time, as all our fathers did. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and without hope. 16 O Lord our God, from Your hand are all these many things that we have given to build You a house for Your holy name. It all belongs to You. 17 O my God, I know that You test the heart and are pleased with what is right. I have given these things because I have wanted to with a clean heart. And now I have seen with joy how Your people who are here give gifts to You because they want to. 18 O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the thoughts of the hearts of Your people. Lead their hearts to You. 19 Give my son Solomon a perfect heart to keep Your Words and Your Laws and to obey them all. And so let him build the beautiful house I have planned and given for.”

20 Then David said to all the people, “Now praise the Lord your God.” And all the people gave praise to the Lord, the God of their fathers. They bowed low to the ground before the Lord and the king. 21 On the next day they killed animals and gave burnt gifts in worship to the Lord.

They gave 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams and 1,000 lambs, with their drink gifts. They gave many gifts in worship for all Israel. 22 So they ate and drank that day with great joy before the Lord.

They made David’s son Solomon king a second time. They poured oil on him to set him apart as ruler for the Lord. And they set Zadok apart as religious leader. 23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of his father David. Everything went well for him, and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the leaders and the powerful men and all the sons of King David promised to be faithful to King Solomon. 25 The Lord brought much honor to Solomon in the eyes of all Israel. He gave him greater power than any king before him in Israel.

26 So David the son of Jesse ruled over all Israel. 27 And he ruled over Israel for forty years. He ruled in Hebron seven years, and in Jerusalem thirty-three years. 28 Then he died as an old man. He had lived many years, had many riches and much honor. And his son Solomon ruled in his place. 29 The acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the books of Samuel, Nathan, and Gad, the men of God. 30 They tell of all his rule, his power, and of the things which happened to him, to Israel, and to all the nations of the lands.

Gifts for Building the Temple

29 Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced.(A) The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. 2 With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold(B) for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise,[a](C) stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities.(D) 3 Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided(E) for this holy temple: 4 three thousand talents[b] of gold (gold of Ophir)(F) and seven thousand talents[c] of refined silver,(G) for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5 for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?”

6 Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials(H) in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.(I) 7 They(J) gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents[d] and ten thousand darics[e] of gold, ten thousand talents[f] of silver, eighteen thousand talents[g] of bronze and a hundred thousand talents[h] of iron. 8 Anyone who had precious stones(K) gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.(L) 9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly(M) to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

David’s Prayer

10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,

“Praise be to you, Lord,
    the God of our father Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting.
11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power(N)
    and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
    for everything in heaven and earth is yours.(O)
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
    you are exalted as head over all.(P)
12 Wealth and honor(Q) come from you;
    you are the ruler(R) of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
    to exalt and give strength to all.
13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,
    and praise your glorious name.

14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?(S) Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.(T) 15 We are foreigners and strangers(U) in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow,(V) without hope. 16 Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart(W) and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.(X) 18 Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion(Y) to keep your commands, statutes and decrees(Z) and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”(AA)

20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the Lord your God.” So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.

Solomon Acknowledged as King(AB)

21 The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him:(AC) a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.(AD) 22 They ate and drank with great joy(AE) in the presence of the Lord that day.

Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok(AF) to be priest. 23 So Solomon sat(AG) on the throne(AH) of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons,(AI) pledged their submission to King Solomon.

25 The Lord highly exalted(AJ) Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor(AK) such as no king over Israel ever had before.(AL)

The Death of David(AM)

26 David son of Jesse was king(AN) over all Israel.(AO) 27 He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron(AP) and thirty-three in Jerusalem.(AQ) 28 He died(AR) at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.(AS)

29 As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer,(AT) the records of Nathan(AU) the prophet and the records of Gad(AV) the seer, 30 together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.
