Not Carnality but Christ

If then you were (A)raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, (B)where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the (C)earth. (D)For you died, (E)and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (F)When Christ who is (G)our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in (H)glory.

(I)Therefore put to death (J)your members which are on the earth: (K)fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, (L)which is idolatry. (M)Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon (N)the sons of disobedience, (O)in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

(P)But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who (Q)is renewed in knowledge (R)according to the image of Him who (S)created him, 11 where there is neither (T)Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, (U)but Christ is all and in all.

Character of the New Man

12 Therefore, (V)as the elect of God, holy and beloved, (W)put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 (X)bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 (Y)But above all these things (Z)put on love, which is the (AA)bond of perfection. 15 And let (AB)the peace of God rule in your hearts, (AC)to which also you were called (AD)in one body; and (AE)be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another (AF)in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And (AG)whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

The Christian Home(AH)

18 (AI)Wives, submit to your own husbands, (AJ)as is fitting in the Lord.

19 (AK)Husbands, love your wives and do not be (AL)bitter toward them.

20 (AM)Children, obey your parents (AN)in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.

21 (AO)Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

22 (AP)Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23 (AQ)And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 (AR)knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; (AS)for[a] you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and (AT)there is no partiality.

  1. Colossians 3:24 NU omits for

Therefore, because you were raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

The New Creation

So put to death whatever is worldly in you: sexual immorality, uncleanness, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. It is because of these things that the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.[b] You too once walked in these things, when you were living in them.

But now, you too are to rid yourselves of all of these: wrath, anger, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. Do not lie to each other since you have put off the old self with its practices, 10 and put on the new self, which is continually being renewed in knowledge, according to the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcision or uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but rather Christ is all and is in all.

List of Virtues

12 Therefore, as God’s elect, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against anyone else. Forgive, just as Christ[c] forgave you. 14 And, in addition to all these things, put on love, which ties things together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ control your hearts, to which you were also called, in one body. And be thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ[d] dwell in you richly, as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.[e] 17 And everything you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Household Duties

18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not treat them harshly.

20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, so that they do not become discouraged.

22 Slaves, obey your human masters[f] in everything, not just when they are watching you, like people-pleasers, but with a sincere heart, out of respect for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, keep working at it with all your heart, as for the Lord and not for people, 24 because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. Keep serving the Lord Christ! 25 Indeed, the one who does what is wrong will be repaid for what he did wrong, and there is no favoritism.

Am hynny os cydgyfodasoch gyda Christ, ceisiwch y pethau sydd uchod, lle mae Crist yn eistedd ar ddeheulaw Duw. Rhoddwch eich serch ar bethau sydd uchod, nid ar bethau sydd ar y ddaear. Canys meirw ydych, a’ch bywyd a guddiwyd gyda Christ yn Nuw. Pan ymddangoso Crist ein bywyd ni, yna hefyd yr ymddangoswch chwithau gydag ef mewn gogoniant. Marwhewch gan hynny eich aelodau, y rhai sydd ar y ddaear; godineb, aflendid, gwŷn, drygchwant, a chybydd‐dod, yr hon sydd eilun‐addoliaeth: O achos yr hyn bethau y mae digofaint Duw yn dyfod ar blant yr anufudd‐dod: Yn y rhai hefyd y rhodiasoch chwithau gynt, pan oeddech yn byw ynddynt. Ond yr awron rhoddwch chwithau ymaith yr holl bethau hyn; dicter, llid, drygioni, cabledd, serthedd, allan o’ch genau. Na ddywedwch gelwydd wrth eich gilydd, gan ddarfod i chwi ddiosg yr hen ddyn ynghyd â’i weithredoedd; 10 A gwisgo’r newydd, yr hwn a adnewyddir mewn gwybodaeth, yn ôl delw yr hwn a’i creodd ef: 11 Lle nid oes na Groegwr nac Iddew, enwaediad na dienwaediad, Barbariad na Scythiad, caeth na rhydd: ond Crist sydd bob peth, ac ym mhob peth. 12 Am hynny, (megis etholedigion Duw, sanctaidd ac annwyl,) gwisgwch amdanoch ymysgaroedd trugareddau, cymwynasgarwch, gostyngeiddrwydd, addfwynder, ymaros; 13 Gan gyd‐ddwyn â’ch gilydd, a maddau i’ch gilydd, os bydd gan neb gweryl yn erbyn neb: megis ag y maddeuodd Crist i chwi, felly gwnewch chwithau. 14 Ac am ben hyn oll, gwisgwch gariad, yr hwn yw rhwymyn perffeithrwydd. 15 A llywodraethed tangnefedd Duw yn eich calonnau, i’r hwn hefyd y’ch galwyd yn un corff; a byddwch ddiolchgar. 16 Preswylied gair Crist ynoch yn helaeth ym mhob doethineb; gan ddysgu a rhybuddio bawb eich gilydd mewn salmau, a hymnau, ac odlau ysbrydol, gan ganu trwy ras yn eich calonnau i’r Arglwydd. 17 A pha beth bynnag a wneloch, ar air neu ar weithred, gwnewch bob peth yn enw’r Arglwydd Iesu, gan ddiolch i Dduw a’r Tad trwyddo ef. 18 Y gwragedd, ymostyngwch i’ch gwŷr priod, megis y mae yn weddus yn yr Arglwydd. 19 Y gwŷr, cerwch eich gwragedd, ac na fyddwch chwerwon wrthynt. 20 Y plant, ufuddhewch i’ch rhieni ym mhob peth: canys hyn sydd yn rhyngu bodd i’r Arglwydd yn dda. 21 Y tadau, na chyffrowch eich plant, fel na ddigalonnont. 22 Y gweision, ufuddhewch ym mhob peth i’ch meistriaid yn ôl y cnawd; nid â llygad‐wasanaeth, fel bodlonwyr dynion, eithr mewn symlrwydd calon, yn ofni Duw: 23 A pha beth bynnag a wneloch, gwnewch o’r galon, megis i’r Arglwydd, ac nid i ddynion; 24 Gan wybod mai gan yr Arglwydd y derbyniwch daledigaeth yr etifeddiaeth: canys yr Arglwydd Crist yr ydych yn ei wasanaethu. 25 Ond yr hwn sydd yn gwneuthur cam, a dderbyn am y cam a wnaeth: ac nid oes derbyn wyneb.
