Saludo

1 Pedro, apóstol de Jesucristo(A):

A los expatriados(B), de la dispersión(C) en el[a] Ponto(D), Galacia(E), Capadocia(F), Asia(G) y Bitinia(H), elegidos(I) 2 según el previo conocimiento de Dios Padre(J), por la obra santificadora del Espíritu(K), para obedecer a Jesucristo(L) y ser rociados con Su sangre[b](M): Que la gracia y la paz les sean multiplicadas(N) a ustedes.

La esperanza viva del cristiano

3 Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo(O), quien según Su gran misericordia(P), nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo(Q) a una esperanza viva(R), mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo de entre los muertos(S), 4 para obtener una herencia(T) incorruptible, inmaculada, y que no se marchitará(U), reservada en los cielos para ustedes(V).

5 Mediante la fe(W) ustedes son protegidos por el poder de Dios(X), para la salvación(Y) que está preparada para ser revelada en el último tiempo(Z). 6 En lo cual ustedes se regocijan grandemente(AA), aunque ahora, por un poco de tiempo(AB) si es necesario(AC), sean afligidos con diversas pruebas[c](AD), 7 para que la prueba[d] de la fe de ustedes(AE), más preciosa que el oro que perece, aunque probado por fuego(AF), sea hallada que resulta en alabanza(AG), gloria y honor en la revelación de Jesucristo(AH); 8 a quien sin haber visto(AI), ustedes lo aman(AJ), y a quien ahora no ven, pero creen en Él, y se regocijan grandemente con gozo inefable y lleno de gloria[e], 9 obteniendo, como[f] resultado de su fe(AK), la salvación de sus[g] almas.

10 Acerca de esta salvación(AL), los profetas que profetizaron(AM) de la gracia que vendría a ustedes(AN), diligentemente inquirieron y averiguaron, 11 procurando saber[h] qué persona o tiempo indicaba el Espíritu de Cristo(AO) dentro de ellos, al predecir los sufrimientos de Cristo(AP) y las glorias que seguirían[i]. 12 A ellos les fue revelado que no se servían a sí mismos, sino a ustedes, en estas cosas que ahora les han sido anunciadas mediante los que les predicaron el evangelio(AQ) por el Espíritu Santo(AR) enviado del cielo; cosas a las cuales los ángeles anhelan mirar[j](AS).

Exhortación a la santidad

13 Por tanto, preparen su entendimiento(AT) para la acción[k]. Sean[l] sobrios en espíritu(AU), pongan su esperanza(AV) completamente en la gracia(AW) que se les traerá[m] en la revelación[n] de Jesucristo(AX). 14 Como hijos obedientes[o](AY), no se conformen a los deseos(AZ) que antes tenían en su ignorancia(BA), 15 sino que así como Aquel que los llamó es Santo[p](BB), así también sean ustedes santos(BC) en toda su manera de vivir(BD). 16 Porque escrito está: «Sean santos, porque Yo soy santo(BE)». 17 Y si invocan como Padre(BF) a Aquel que imparcialmente(BG) juzga(BH) según la obra de cada uno, condúzcanse con temor[q](BI) durante el tiempo de su peregrinación(BJ).

18 Ustedes saben que no fueron redimidos[r](BK) de su vana manera de vivir heredada de sus padres(BL) con cosas perecederas como oro o plata, 19 sino con sangre preciosa(BM), como de un cordero sin tacha y sin mancha(BN): la sangre de Cristo. 20 Porque Él estaba preparado[s](BO) desde antes de la fundación del mundo(BP), pero se ha manifestado(BQ) en estos últimos tiempos por amor a ustedes(BR). 21 Por medio de Él son creyentes en Dios(BS), que lo resucitó de entre los muertos y le dio gloria(BT), de manera que la fe y esperanza de ustedes sean en Dios(BU).

Exhortación al amor fraternal

22 Puesto que en obediencia a la verdad(BV) ustedes han purificado sus almas[t](BW) para un amor sincero de hermanos(BX), ámense unos a otros entrañablemente, de corazón puro. 23 Pues han nacido de nuevo(BY), no de una simiente(BZ) corruptible, sino de una que es incorruptible, es decir, mediante la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece[u](CA). 24 Porque:

«Toda carne es como la hierba,
Y toda su gloria como la flor de la hierba.
Sécase la hierba,
Cáese la flor(CB),
25 Pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre(CC)».

Esa es la palabra que a ustedes les fue predicada[v](CD).

1 Pedro, apóstol de Jesucristo,

a los elegidos, extranjeros dispersos por el Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia, 2 según el conocimiento previo de Dios el Padre, mediante la obra santificadora del Espíritu, para obedecer a Jesucristo y ser rociados con su sangre:

Que abunden en ustedes la gracia y la paz.

Alabanza a Dios por una esperanza viva

3 ¡Bendito sea Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo! Por su gran misericordia, nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo de entre los muertos, para que tengamos una esperanza viva 4 y recibamos una herencia que no se puede destruir, contaminar o marchitar. Tal herencia está reservada en el cielo para ustedes, 5 a quienes el poder de Dios protege mediante la fe hasta que llegue la salvación que se ha de revelar en los últimos tiempos. 6 Esto es para ustedes motivo de gran alegría, a pesar de que hasta ahora han tenido que sufrir diversas pruebas por un tiempo. 7 El oro, aunque perecedero, se acrisola al fuego. Así también la fe de ustedes, que vale mucho más que el oro, al ser acrisolada por las pruebas demostrará que es digna de aprobación, gloria y honor cuando Jesucristo se revele. 8 Ustedes lo aman a pesar de no haberlo visto; y aunque no lo ven ahora, creen en él y se alegran con un gozo indescriptible y glorioso, 9 pues están obteniendo la meta de su fe, que es su salvación.

10 Los profetas, que anunciaron la gracia reservada para ustedes, investigaron cuidadosamente acerca de esta salvación. 11 Querían descubrir a qué tiempo y a cuáles circunstancias se refería el Espíritu de Cristo, que estaba en ellos, cuando testificó de antemano acerca de los sufrimientos de Cristo y de las glorias que vendrían después de estos. 12 A ellos se les reveló que no se estaban sirviendo a sí mismos, sino que les servían a ustedes. Hablaban de las cosas que ahora les han anunciado los que les predicaron acerca de las buenas noticias por medio del Espíritu Santo enviado del cielo. Aun los mismos ángeles anhelan contemplar esas cosas.

Sean santos

13 Por eso, dispónganse para actuar con inteligencia;[a] tengan dominio propio; pongan su esperanza completamente en la gracia que se les dará cuando se revele Jesucristo. 14 Como hijos obedientes, no se amolden a los malos deseos que tenían antes, cuando vivían en la ignorancia. 15 Más bien, sean ustedes santos en todo lo que hagan, como también es santo quien los llamó; 16 pues está escrito: «Sean santos, porque yo soy santo».[b] 17 Ya que invocan como Padre al que juzga con imparcialidad las obras de cada uno, vivan con temor reverente mientras sean peregrinos en este mundo. 18 Como bien saben, ustedes fueron rescatados de la vida absurda que heredaron de sus antepasados. El precio de su rescate no se pagó con cosas perecederas, como el oro o la plata, 19 sino con la preciosa sangre de Cristo, como de un cordero sin mancha y sin defecto. 20 Cristo, a quien Dios escogió antes de la creación del mundo, se ha manifestado en estos últimos tiempos en beneficio de ustedes. 21 Por medio de él ustedes creen en Dios, que lo resucitó y glorificó, de modo que su fe y su esperanza están puestas en Dios.

22 Ahora que se han purificado obedeciendo a la verdad y tienen un amor sincero por sus hermanos, ámense de todo corazón[c] los unos a los otros. 23 Pues ustedes han nacido de nuevo, no de simiente perecedera, sino de simiente imperecedera, mediante la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece. 24 Porque

«todo mortal es como la hierba
    y toda su gloria como la flor del campo.
La hierba se seca y la flor se cae,
25     pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre».[d]

Y este es el mensaje de las buenas noticias que se les ha anunciado a ustedes.

Greeting

1 Peter,(A) an apostle of Jesus Christ:

To the temporary residents(B) dispersed[a](C) in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,(D) chosen(E) 2 according to the foreknowledge(F) of God the Father and set apart by the Spirit(G) for obedience(H) and for sprinkling with the blood(I) of Jesus Christ.

May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

A Living Hope

3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.(J) According to His great mercy,(K) He has given us a new birth(L) into a living hope(M) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead(N) 4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable,(O) uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven(P) for you. 5 You are being protected by God’s power(Q) through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.(R) 6 You rejoice in this,[b] though now for a short time you have had to struggle in various trials(S) 7 so that the genuineness of your faith(T)—more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire(U)—may result(V) in[c] praise, glory, and honor(W) at the revelation of Jesus Christ.(X) 8 You love Him,(Y) though you have not seen(Z) Him. And though not seeing Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice(AA) with inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 because you are receiving the goal of your[d] faith, the salvation of your souls.[e]

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets(AB) who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated. 11 They inquired into what time or what circumstances[f] the Spirit of Christ(AC) within them was indicating when He testified in advance(AD) to the messianic sufferings[g](AE) and the glories(AF) that would follow.[h] 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you(AG) by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.(AH) Angels desire to look into these things.

A Call to Holy Living

13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action,[i](AI) be serious(AJ) and set your hope(AK) completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation(AL) of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children,(AM) do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. 15 But as the One who called you(AN) is holy,(AO) you also are to be holy in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.(AP)[j]

17 And if you address as Father the One who judges impartially(AQ) based on each one’s work,(AR) you are to conduct yourselves in fear(AS) during the time of your temporary residence. 18 For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life(AT) inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,(AU) 19 but with the precious blood of Christ,(AV) like that of a lamb(AW) without defect or blemish. 20 He was chosen[k](AX) before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times(AY) for you 21 who through Him are believers in God,(AZ) who raised Him from the dead(BA) and gave Him glory,(BB) so that your faith and hope are in God.

22 By obedience to the truth,[l] having purified yourselves[m] for sincere love of the brothers, love one another(BC) earnestly[n] from a pure[o] heart,(BD) 23 since you have been born again(BE)—not of perishable seed(BF) but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God.(BG) 24 For

All flesh is like grass,
and all its glory(BH) like a flower of the grass.
The grass withers, and the flower falls,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.(BI)[p]

And this is the word that was preached as the gospel to you.

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen[a] who are residing temporarily in the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and for sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ. May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

A New Birth to a Living Hope

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you 5 who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time, 6 in which you rejoice greatly, although[b] now for a short time, if necessary,[c] you are distressed by various trials, 7 so that the genuineness of your faith, more valuable than gold that is passing away, but is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom, although you[d] have not seen, you love; in whom now you believe, although you[e] do not see him, and you rejoice greatly with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 obtaining the goal of your faith, the salvation of your[f] souls.

10 Concerning this[g] salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace meant for you sought and made careful inquiry, 11 investigating for what person or which time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he[h] testified beforehand to the sufferings with reference to Christ and the glories after these things, 12 to whom it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you with reference to the same things which now have been announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which[i] angels desire to look.

Be Holy in All Your Conduct

13 Therefore, when you have prepared your minds for action[j] by[k] being self-controlled, put your hope completely in the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former desires you used to conform to[l] in your ignorance, 15 but as the one who called you is holy, you yourselves be holy in all your conduct, 16 for it is written, “You will be holy, because I am[m] holy.”[n][o] 17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves with fear during the time of your temporary residence, 18 because you[p] know that you were redeemed from your futile way of life inherited from your ancestors not with perishable things like silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb 20 who was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has been revealed in these last times for you 21 who through him are believing in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another fervently from the heart,[q] 23 because you[r] have been born again, not from perishable seed but imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For

And this is the word that has been proclaimed to you.
