1 Thessalonians 5

Be Ready for the Lord’s Coming
5 Now, brothers and sisters, we don’t need to write to you about times and dates. 2 You know very well that the day when the Lord comes again will be a surprise, like a thief who comes at night. 3 People will say, “We have peace and we are safe.” At that time destruction will come to them quickly, like the pains of a woman giving birth. And those people will not escape.
4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not living in darkness. And so that day will not surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all people who belong to the light. You belong to the day. We don’t belong to the night or to darkness. 6 So we should not be like other people. We should not be sleeping. We should be awake and have self-control. 7 People who sleep, sleep at night. People who drink too much, drink at night. 8 But we belong to the day, so we should control ourselves. We should wear faith and love to protect us. And the hope of salvation should be our helmet.
9 God did not choose us to suffer his anger. God chose us to have salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 Jesus died for us so that we can live together with him. It is not important if we are alive or dead when Jesus comes. 11 So encourage each other and help each other grow stronger in faith, just as you are already doing.
Final Instructions and Greetings
12 Now brothers and sisters, we ask you to recognize the value of those who work hard among you—those who, as followers of the Lord, care for you and tell you how to live. 13 Show them the highest respect and love because of the work they do.
Live in peace with each other. 14 We ask you, brothers and sisters, to warn those who will not work. Encourage those who are afraid. Help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 Be sure that no one pays back wrong for wrong. But always try to do what is good for each other and for all people.
16 Always be full of joy. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Whatever happens, always be thankful. This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus.
19 Don’t stop the work of the Holy Spirit. 20 Don’t treat prophecy like something that is not important. 21 But test everything. Keep what is good, 22 and stay away from everything that is evil.
23 We pray that God himself, the God of peace, will make you pure—belonging only to him. We pray that your whole self—spirit, soul, and body—will be kept safe and be blameless when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. 24 The one who chose you will do that for you. You can trust him.
25 Brothers and sisters, please pray for us. 26 Give all the brothers and sisters the special greeting of God’s people.[a] 27 I tell you by the authority of the Lord to read this letter to all the believers there. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

5 弟兄姊妹，这件事会在什么日期、什么时候发生，不必我写信告诉你们， 2 因为你们已经清楚知道，将来有一天，主会突然来到，像贼在夜里忽然出现一样。 3 当人们正在说一切平安稳妥的时候，灾祸会像产痛临到孕妇一样突然临到他们，令他们无法逃脱。
4 然而，弟兄姊妹，你们不是活在黑暗里，因此那日子不会像贼一样突然临到你们。 5 你们都是光明之子，白昼之子。我们既不属于黑夜，也不属于黑暗。 6 所以不要像其他人一样沉睡，要警醒戒备， 7 因为睡觉的人是在夜里睡，醉酒的人是在夜里醉。 8 我们既属于白昼，就应当保持清醒，要把信心和爱心当作护心镜遮胸，把得救的盼望当作头盔戴上。 9 因为上帝不是预定我们受惩罚，而是预定我们靠着主耶稣基督得救。 10 主替我们死，使我们无论是醒是睡[a]，都可以与祂同活。 11 所以，你们要彼此鼓励、互相造就，正如你们一向所做的。
劝勉与问候
12 弟兄姊妹，我劝你们要敬重那些在你们当中辛勤工作、在主里领导和劝诫你们的人。 13 因为他们的工作，你们要怀着爱心格外敬重他们。你们要彼此和睦相处。 14 此外，我劝你们要告诫懒惰的人，鼓励灰心的人，扶持软弱的人，耐心对待所有的人。 15 你们要小心，谁都不可冤冤相报，总要彼此善待，也要善待众人。
16 要常常喜乐， 17 不断地祷告， 18 凡事谢恩，因为这是上帝在基督耶稣里给你们的旨意。
19 不要抑制圣灵的感动， 20 不要轻视先知的信息。 21 凡事都要小心察验，持守良善的事， 22 杜绝所有的恶事。
23 愿赐平安的上帝使你们完全圣洁！愿祂保守你们的灵、魂、体，使你们在主耶稣基督再来的时候无可指责！ 24 呼召你们的主是信实可靠的，祂必为你们成就这事。
25 弟兄姊妹，请为我们祷告。 26 要以圣洁的吻问候众弟兄姊妹。 27 最后，我奉主的名吩咐你们把这封信读给所有弟兄姊妹听。
28 愿我们主耶稣基督的恩典与你们同在！

5 Pero acerca de los tiempos y de las sazones, no tenéis necesidad, hermanos, de que yo os escriba.
2 Porque vosotros mismos sabéis perfectamente que el día del Señor vendrá del mismo modo que un ladrón en la noche.
3 Cuando estén diciendo: Paz y seguridad, entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, como los dolores a la mujer encinta, y no escaparán de ningún modo.
4 Mas vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas, para que aquel día os sorprenda como un ladrón.
5 Porque todos vosotros sois hijos de la luz e hijos del día; no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas.
6 Por tanto, no durmamos como los demás, sino velemos y seamos sobrios.
7 Pues los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan.
8 Pero nosotros, que somos del día, seamos sobrios, habiéndonos vestido con la coraza de fe y amor, y con la esperanza de salvación como yelmo.
9 Porque no nos ha puesto Dios para ira, sino para alcanzar salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo,
10 quien murió por nosotros para que, ya sea que velemos, o que durmamos, vivamos juntamente con él.
11 Por lo cual, animaos unos a otros, y edificaos unos a otros, así como lo hacéis.
Pablo exhorta a los creyentes
12 Os rogamos, hermanos, que reconozcáis a los que trabajan entre vosotros, y os presiden en el Señor, y os amonestan;
13 y que los tengáis en mucha estima con amor por causa de su obra. Tened paz entre vosotros.
14 También os rogamos, hermanos, que amonestéis a los ociosos, que alentéis a los de poco ánimo, que sostengáis a los débiles, que seáis pacientes para con todos.
15 Mirad que ninguno devuelva a otro mal por mal; antes seguid siempre lo bueno unos para con otros, y para con todos.
16 Estad siempre gozosos.
17 Orad sin cesar.
18 Dad gracias en todo, porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios para con vosotros en Cristo Jesús.
19 No apaguéis el Espíritu.
20 No menospreciéis las profecías.
21 Examinadlo todo; retened lo bueno.
22 Absteneos de toda especie de mal.
23 Y el mismo Dios de paz os santifique por completo; y todo vuestro ser, espíritu, alma y cuerpo, sea guardado irreprensible para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
24 Fiel es el que os llama, el cual también lo hará.

25 Hermanos, orad por nosotros.
26 Saludad a todos los hermanos con beso santo.
27 Os conjuro por el Señor, que esta carta se lea a todos los santos hermanos.
