兩位見證人
11 接著，我被賜予了一根彷彿量杖的蘆葦。有聲音對我[a]說[b]：「起來，量一量神的聖所和祭壇，數一數在那裡敬拜的人。 2 不過要排除聖所外面的院子，不要測量它，因為那裡已經給了外邦人。外邦人將要踐踏聖城四十二個月[c]。 3 我將賜能力[d]給我的兩個見證人，他們將披著麻衣，做先知傳道[e]一千二百六十天[f]。」 4 這兩個人就是站在大地之主[g]面前的那兩棵橄欖樹、那兩座燈臺。 5 如果有人想要傷害他們，火就從他們的口中出來，吞滅他們的敵人；如果有人想要傷害他們，就必定這樣被殺。 6 這兩個人[h]有權柄閉塞天空，使雨水在他們做先知傳道[i]的日子不降下來；又有權柄統管眾水，使水變成血，並且能隨時隨意用各樣災害擊打大地。

7 他們做完了見證以後，那從無底坑裡上來的獸將與他們作戰，並且將勝過他們，把他們殺死。 8 他們的屍體會被拋[j]在大城的街道[k]上。這大城按屬靈的意思叫做所多瑪，又叫做埃及，也就是他們的主被釘十字架的地方。 9 來自各民族、各支派、各語言群體和各國家的人，都要觀看他們的屍體三天半，又不准人把他們的屍體安放在墳墓裡。 10 住在地上的人都因他們的死[l]而歡喜、慶祝，並且要彼此送禮，因為這兩位先知曾使住在地上的人受痛苦。

11 可是三天半之後，有從神而來的生命氣息[m]進入他們裡面，他們就站立起來了。於是強烈的恐懼臨到那些觀看他們的人。 12 隨後，兩位先知[n]聽見一個大聲音從天上傳來，對他們說：「上到這裡來！」他們就在雲中升到天上去了，他們的敵人也看見了。 13 就在那時刻，發生了大地震，那城的十分之一倒塌了，在地震中死去的有七千人。其餘的人都感到害怕，把榮耀歸給天上的神。 14 第二個災禍過去了。看哪，第三個災禍快要來臨了。

15 第七位天使吹響號角，天上就有大聲音說：
「世上的國度已經屬於
我們主和他的基督；
他將做王，直到永永遠遠！」
16 於是，那些在神面前坐在自己座位[o]上的二十四位長老，就把臉伏在地上，敬拜神， 17 說：
「主、神、全能者啊，今在、昔在[p]的那一位啊！我們感謝你！
因為你得了你的大權能，做王了。
18 列國發怒了，可是你的震怒臨到了，
你審判死人的時候到了，
你向你的奴僕先知們、聖徒們、敬畏你名的人，
無論卑微尊貴，賜報償的時候到了，
你毀滅那些敗壞大地之人的時候也到了。」
19 隨後，神在天上的聖所開了，他的約櫃[q]在他聖所中顯現。接著有閃電、聲音、雷鳴、地震[r]和大冰雹。

11 然后，我得到一根长茎做量尺，并被告知∶“起来，去量一下上帝的大殿和祭坛，数一数在里面敬拜的人有多少。 2 不要量殿外的院子，因为它已给了外邦人，他们会践踏圣城四十二个月。 3 我要授权给我的两个证人，让他们穿上孝服，布一千二百六十天的道。” 4 这两个证人，就是站在地球之主面前的两棵橄榄树和两个灯台。 5 如果有人想伤害他们，他们就口吐烈火烧死敌人。谁要是想伤害他们，就会遭到这样的下场。 6 他们有封锁天空的力量，所以，在他们布道的那些日子里，不会下雨，他们还有力量，让水泉变成血，让各种瘟疫在大地上，按他们的旨意，想流行多少次就流行多少次。
7 他们做完见证后，有只野兽会从深渊出来攻击他们，把他们打败，并置他们于死地。 8 他们的尸体要横陈在那座大城的街头（那个城市被象征性地称作所多玛和埃及。）。他们的主也是在此被钉死在十字架上的。 9 整整三天半，来自不同民族、支派、国家，说不同语言的人都来观看两个证人的尸体，并且不让把尸体烧掉。 10 地上的居民对此无不兴高采烈，欢庆，互赠礼品，因为这两位先知曾折磨过他们。
11 但是，三天半之后，上帝赐予的生命之气进入他们体内，他们就站立起来。看见他们的人都吓坏了。 12 两位先知听到从天堂里传来一个宏亮的声音说∶“到这儿来！”于是在他们敌人的注视下，他们腾云驾雾升到了天堂。
13 就在这时，发生了一场大地震，城市的十分之一塌落，七千人在地震中丧生，剩下的人都非常害怕，都赞美天上的上帝。
14 第二场大灾难过去了。但是，你们要注意，第三场大灾难就要来临了。
第七个号角吹响了
15 第七个天使吹响号角，从天堂里传来一个宏亮的声音说：
“世上的统治权已属于我们的主和他的基督，
他将永远统治下去。”
16 坐在上帝面前自己座位上的二十四位长老，纷纷匍伏在地，敬拜上帝， 17 他们说：
“昔在、今在，
全能的主上帝啊，
我们感谢您，
因为您开始以您的大能实行统治了。
18 异教徒曾经施逞怒气，
但现在您的愤怒来临了。
死去的人也将受到审判。
这是您的仆人、先知、
子民和敬畏您的人，
无论贵贱尊卑，
受到奖偿的时刻，
这是那些毁灭大地的人遭到毁灭的时刻！”

The Two Witnesses
11 I was given a ·measuring stick [C a reed or cane used for measuring] like a ·rod [staff; walking stick], and I was told, ·Go [Get up] and measure the temple of God and the altar, ·and count [or including] the people worshiping there [C probably to show God’s control and protection of his people; Ezek. 40:3, 5]. 2 But do not measure the ·yard [courtyard] outside the temple. Leave it ·alone [out], because it has been given to ·those who are not God’s people [the Gentiles; the nations]. And they will trample on the holy city [C Jerusalem] for forty-two months [C a period of oppression—either literal or symbolic—equal to three and a half years; see Dan. 7:25; 12:7, 11–12]. 3 And I will ·give power to [or appoint; L give to] my two witnesses to prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days [C 42 months reckoned as 30 days each], ·and they will be dressed in rough cloth to show their sadness [L dressed in sackcloth; C mourning clothes].”
4 These two witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth [C reminiscent of Zerubbabel and Joshua whom God used to build the second temple in spite of opposition; Zech. 4:2–6]. 5 And if anyone ·tries [wants] to ·hurt [harm; damage] them, fire comes from their mouths and ·kills [consumes; devours] their enemies [Jer. 5:14]. And if anyone ·tries [wants] to ·hurt [harm; damage] them in whatever way, in that same way that person ·will [or must] die. 6 These witnesses have the ·power [authority] to ·stop the sky [close the heavens] from raining during the time they are prophesying [1 Kin. 17:1]. And they have ·power [authority] to make the waters become blood [8:8; 16:3–4; Ex. 7:17–21], and they have ·power [authority] to send every kind of ·trouble [plague] to the earth as many times as they want.
7 When the two witnesses have finished ·telling their message [giving their witness/testimony], the beast [C probably the Antichrist; 13:1; 17:8; Dan. 7] that comes up from the ·bottomless pit [Abyss; 9:1] will fight a war against them. He will ·defeat [conquer] them and kill them. 8 The ·bodies [corpses] of the two witnesses will lie in the ·street [public square; C to be left unburied as a sign of disdain] of the great city where the Lord was ·killed [L crucified; C Jerusalem, perhaps here symbolic of the world’s opposition to God]. ·This city is named Sodom and Egypt, which has a spiritual meaning [L …which is figuratively/symbolically/spiritually called Sodom and Egypt; C Jerusalem is symbolically named after places judged by God for wickedness (Sodom) and for oppressing God’s people (Egypt); Gen. 19; Ex. 7—12]. 9 Those from every race of people, tribe, language, and nation will look at the bodies of the two witnesses for three and one-half days, and they will ·refuse to bury them [L not let them be placed in a tomb]. 10 People who live on the earth will rejoice and ·be happy [celebrate] because these two are dead. They will send each other gifts, because these two prophets brought much ·suffering [torment] to those who live on the earth.
11 But after [L the] three and one-half days, ·God put the breath of life into the two prophets again [L a breath/spirit of life from God entered them; Gen. 2:7]. They stood on their feet, and everyone who saw them became very afraid. 12 Then the two prophets heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Come up here!” And they went up into heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched.
13 In the same hour there was a ·great [violent] earthquake, and a tenth of the city ·was destroyed [collapsed; L fell]. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and those who did not die were very afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven [Ezek. 38:19–20; Zech. 14:4].
14 The second ·trouble [L woe] is finished. ·Pay attention [Look; T Behold]: The third ·trouble [L woe] is coming ·soon [quickly; 8:13].
The Seventh Trumpet
15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet. And there were loud voices in heaven, saying:
“·The power to rule the world now belongs to [or The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of] our Lord and his Christ [C Greek for Messiah or Anointed One],
and he will ·rule [reign] forever and ever [2 Sam. 7:16; Dan. 7:14, 18; Luke 1:32–33].”
16 Then the twenty-four elders [4:4], who sit on their thrones before God, ·bowed down [fell] on their faces and worshiped God. 17 They said:
“We give thanks to you, Lord God ·Almighty [All-powerful],
[the One] who is and [the One] who was [C in contrast with 1:4, 8; 4:8, this lacks the future reference, “who is coming,” because here God has commenced his future reign],
because you have ·used [or taken; or received] your great power
and have begun to rule!
18 The ·people of the world [nations; Gentiles] were angry [Ps. 2:1],
but your ·anger [wrath] has come.
The time has come to judge the dead [Dan. 12:2],
and to reward your servants the prophets
and your ·holy people [T saints],
·all who respect you [L those who fear your name], small and great.
The time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth!”
19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened. The ·Ark that holds the agreement God gave to his people [L Ark of his Covenant] could be seen in his temple. Then there were flashes of lightning, ·noises, thunder [rumbling thunder], an earthquake, and a great hailstorm [C typical accompaniments to the arrival of God; 4:5].

The Two Witnesses
11 I was given a reed like a measuring rod(A) and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers. 2 But exclude the outer court;(B) do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles.(C) They will trample on the holy city(D) for 42 months.(E) 3 And I will appoint my two witnesses,(F) and they will prophesy for 1,260 days,(G) clothed in sackcloth.”(H) 4 They are “the two olive trees”(I) and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”[a](J) 5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies.(K) This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die.(L) 6 They have power to shut up the heavens(M) so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying;(N) and they have power to turn the waters into blood(O) and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.
7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast(P) that comes up from the Abyss(Q) will attack them,(R) and overpower and kill them. 8 Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city(S)—which is figuratively called Sodom(T) and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified.(U) 9 For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation(V) will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial.(W) 10 The inhabitants of the earth(X) will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts,(Y) because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.
11 But after the three and a half days(Z) the breath[b] of life from God entered them,(AA) and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.”(AB) And they went up to heaven in a cloud,(AC) while their enemies looked on.
13 At that very hour there was a severe earthquake(AD) and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory(AE) to the God of heaven.(AF)
14 The second woe has passed; the third woe is coming soon.(AG)

15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet,(AH) and there were loud voices(AI) in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,(AJ)
and he will reign for ever and ever.”(AK)
16 And the twenty-four elders,(AL) who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces(AM) and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“We give thanks(AN) to you, Lord God Almighty,(AO)
the One who is and who was,(AP)
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign.(AQ)
18 The nations were angry,(AR)
and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,(AS)
and for rewarding your servants the prophets(AT)
and your people who revere your name,
both great and small(AU)—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”
19 Then God’s temple(AV) in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant.(AW) And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder,(AX) an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.(AY)

3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
