保罗的荐信

难道我们又是在称赞自己吗?难道我们像别人一样,需要拿着推荐信去见你们,或拿着你们的推荐信去见别人吗? 你们自己就是我们的推荐信,写在了我们心坎上,众所周知,人人可读。 显然,你们是从基督而来的一封信,是我们工作的成果。这信不是用笔墨写成的,乃是借着永活上帝的灵写成的;不是写在石版上的,而是刻在心版上的。

我们靠着基督在上帝面前有这样的确信。 我们并不认为自己能够承担什么,我们能够承担全是靠上帝。 祂使我们能够担任新约的执事。这新约不是用律法条文立的,而是圣灵的工作,因为律法条文带给人死亡,但圣灵赐给人生命。

新约的荣耀

这最终带来死亡、刻在石版上的律法条文的事工尚且有荣耀,甚至使摩西的脸上发出荣光,尽管很快就消逝了,以色列人仍然无法定睛看他, 那么圣灵的事工岂不更有荣耀吗? 那定人罪的事工尚且有荣耀,这使人被称为义人的事工岂不更有荣耀吗? 10 其实先前的荣耀和现今的大荣耀相比,就黯然失色了。 11 那渐渐消逝的尚且有荣耀,这永远长存的更是荣耀无比。

12 我们因为有这极大的盼望,就放胆无惧, 13 不像摩西将帕子蒙在脸上,以免以色列人看见那渐渐消逝的荣光。 14 但以色列人的心刚硬,直到今日,他们每逢读旧约的时候,同样的帕子还在那里,没有揭去。因为只有在基督里,那帕子才能被除去。 15 时至今日,每逢他们读摩西律法的时候,帕子仍然蒙在他们心上。 16 然而,他们一旦归向基督,那帕子就被除去了。 17 主就是那灵,主的灵在哪里,哪里就有自由。 18 我们这些脸上不再蒙着帕子的人,可以像镜子一样反映主的荣光,渐渐变成主的样式,荣上加荣。这都是主的作为,主就是那灵。

Ministero del nuovo patto

(A)Cominciamo forse di nuovo a raccomandare noi stessi? O abbiamo bisogno, come alcuni, di lettere di raccomandazione presso di voi o da voi? La nostra lettera, scritta nei nostri cuori, siete voi, lettera conosciuta e letta da tutti gli uomini; è noto che voi siete una lettera di Cristo, scritta mediante il nostro servizio, scritta non con inchiostro, ma con lo Spirito del Dio vivente; non su tavole di pietra, ma su tavole che sono cuori di carne.

Una simile fiducia noi l'abbiamo per mezzo di Cristo presso Dio. Non già che siamo da noi stessi capaci di pensare qualcosa come se venisse da noi; ma la nostra capacità viene da Dio.

Egli ci ha anche resi idonei a essere ministri di un nuovo patto, non di lettera, ma di Spirito; perché la lettera uccide, ma lo Spirito vivifica.

(B)Or se il ministero della morte, scolpito in lettere su pietre, fu glorioso, al punto che i figli d'*Israele non potevano fissare lo sguardo sul volto di *Mosè a motivo della gloria, che pur svaniva, del volto di lui, quanto piú sarà glorioso il ministero dello Spirito? Se, infatti, il ministero della condanna fu glorioso, molto piú abbonda in gloria il ministero della giustizia. 10 Anzi, quello che nel primo fu reso glorioso, non fu reso veramente glorioso, quando lo si confronti con la gloria tanto superiore del secondo; 11 infatti, se ciò che era transitorio fu circondato di gloria, molto piú grande è la gloria di ciò che è duraturo.

12 Avendo dunque una tale speranza, ci comportiamo con molta franchezza, 13 e non facciamo come Mosè, che si metteva un velo sul volto, perché i figli d'Israele non fissassero lo sguardo sulla fine di ciò che era transitorio. 14 Ma le loro menti furono rese ottuse; infatti, sino al giorno d'oggi, quando leggono l'antico patto, lo stesso velo rimane, senza essere rimosso, perché è in Cristo che esso è abolito. 15 Ma fino a oggi, quando si legge Mosè, un velo rimane steso sul loro cuore; 16 però quando si saranno convertiti al Signore, il velo sarà rimosso. 17 Ora, il Signore è lo Spirito; e dove c'è lo Spirito del Signore, lí c'è libertà. 18 E noi tutti, a viso scoperto, contemplando come in uno specchio la gloria del Signore[a], siamo trasformati nella sua stessa immagine, di gloria in gloria, secondo l'azione del Signore, che è lo Spirito.

Are we beginning to commend ourselves(A) again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation(B) to you or from you? Such confidence(G) we have through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves(H) to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.(I) He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant(J)—not of the letter(K) but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.(L)

The Greater Glory of the New Covenant

Now if the ministry that brought death,(M) which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory,(N) transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that brought condemnation(O) was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!(P) 10 For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11 And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

12 Therefore, since we have such a hope,(Q) we are very bold.(R) 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face(S) to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull,(T) for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant(U) is read.(V) It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord,(W) the veil is taken away.(X) 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit,(Y) and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.(Z) 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a](AA) the Lord’s glory,(AB) are being transformed into his image(AC) with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

A Living Letter

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don’t need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we?[a] You yourselves are our letter,[b] written on our hearts, known and read by everyone, revealing[c] that you are a letter of Christ, delivered by us,[d] written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets[e] but on tablets of human hearts.

Now we have such confidence in God through Christ. Not that we are adequate[f] in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy[g] is from God, who made us adequate[h] to be servants of a new covenant[i] not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The Greater Glory of the Spirit’s Ministry

But if the ministry that produced death—carved in letters on stone tablets[j]—came with glory, so that the Israelites[k] could not keep their eyes fixed on the face of Moses because of the glory of his face[l] (a glory[m] which was made ineffective),[n] how much more glorious will the ministry of the Spirit be?[o] For if there was glory in the ministry that produced condemnation,[p] how much more does the ministry that produces righteousness[q] excel[r] in glory! 10 For indeed, what had been glorious now[s] has no glory because of the tremendously greater glory of what replaced it.[t] 11 For if what was made ineffective[u] came with[v] glory, how much more has what remains[w] come in glory! 12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we behave with great boldness,[x] 13 and not like Moses who used to put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites[y] from staring[z] at the result[aa] of the glory that was made ineffective.[ab] 14 But their minds were closed.[ac] For to this very day, the same veil remains when they hear the old covenant read.[ad] It has not been removed because only in Christ is it taken away.[ae] 15 But until this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds,[af] 16 but when one[ag] turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.[ah] 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is present,[ai] there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled faces reflecting the glory of the Lord,[aj] are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another,[ak] which is from[al] the Lord, who is the Spirit.[am]
