9 El árbol genealógico al cual pertenecía cada israelita, está registrado cuidadosamente en el libro de los reyes de Israel.
Los que regresaron a Jerusalén
Los habitantes de Judá, debido a su infidelidad a Dios, fueron llevados cautivos a Babilonia.
2 Los primeros en regresar y establecer otra vez su hogar en los pueblos en que antes vivían, fueron familias de las tribus de Israel, como también los sacerdotes, los levitas, y los ayudantes del templo. 3 Posteriormente llegaron a Jerusalén algunas familias de las tribus de Judá, Benjamín, Efraín, y Manasés.
4 De los descendientes de Judá, regresaron: Utay hijo de Amiud, hijo de Omrí, hijo de Imrí, hijo de Baní, del clan de Fares hijo de Judá.
5 De los descendientes de los silonitas, Asaías, hijo mayor de Silón, y sus hijos. 6 De los zeraítas regresaron Jeuel y sus parientes, seiscientas noventa personas en total.
7-8 Entre los integrantes de la tribu de Benjamín que regresaron, estaban los siguientes: Salú hijo de Mesulán, hijo de Hodavías, hijo de Senuá; Ibneías hijo de Jeroán; Elá hijo de Uzi, hijo de Micri; y Mesulán hijo de Sefatías, hijo de Reuel, hijo de Ibnías.
9 Todos estos eran jefes de núcleos familiares. El grupo que regresó fue de novecientos cincuenta y seis miembros de la tribu de Benjamín.
10-11 Los sacerdotes que regresaron fueron: Jedaías, Joyarib, Jaquín, Azarías hijo de Jilquías, hijo de Mesulán, hijo de Sadoc, hijo de Merayot, hijo de Ajitob. Este último fue el jefe de la guardia del templo de Dios.
12 Otros que regresaron, fueron: Adaías hijo de Jeroán, hijo de Pasur, hijo de Malquías; Masay hijo de Adiel, hijo de Jazera, hijo de Mesulán, hijo de Mesilemit, hijo de Imer.
13 En total regresaron mil setecientos sesenta sacerdotes.
14-16 Entre los levitas que regresaron estaban: Semaías hijo de Jasub, hijo de Azricán, hijo de Jasabías, el cual era descendiente de Merari; Bacbacar, Heres, Galal, Matanías hijo de Micaías, hijo de Zicrí, hijo de Asaf; Abdías hijo de Semaías, hijo de Galal, hijo de Jedutún; y Berequías hijo de Asá, hijo de Elcaná, que vivía en la región de los netofatitas.
17-18 Los porteros fueron: Salún (jefe de los porteros), Acub, Talmón, Ajimán y sus parientes. Todavía tienen la responsabilidad de la puerta del este, correspondiente al palacio real.
19 Los antepasados de Salún fueron Coré, Ebiasaf y Coré. Salún y sus parientes, que son los coreítas, estaban a cargo de los sacrificios y de la protección de la Tienda de reunión, tal como sus antepasados habían ejercido la vigilancia del santuario del Señor.
20 Finés hijo de Eleazar, fue el primer director de esta organización en tiempos antiguos, y el Señor estaba con él. 21 En ese tiempo, Zacarías hijo de Meselemías, era responsable de la protección de la entrada de la Tienda de reunión.
22 En aquellos días había doscientos doce porteros, y fueron seleccionados en sus propios pueblos, sobre la base de sus genealogías. Sus nombramientos los hacía David, junto con Samuel, considerando los que eran dignos de confianza. 23 Tanto ellos como sus descendientes estaban a cargo del santuario del Señor. 24 Eran designados para cada uno de los cuatro puntos cardinales: este, oeste, norte y sur. 25 Y los parientes que vivían en los pueblos venían para ayudarlos por siete días. Así que cada siete días se cambiaban los grupos. 26 Los grupos de cuatro porteros, todos levitas, tenían un puesto de gran responsabilidad, por cuanto tenían a su cargo los aposentos y los tesoros del santuario de Dios. 27 A causa de la importancia del cargo que desempeñaban, vivían cerca del santuario, y abrían sus puertas todas las mañanas.
28 Algunos tenían la responsabilidad de cuidar las diversas vasijas que se usaban en el sacrificio y la adoración; las tenían que contar cuando las sacaban y al volverlas a guardar, para evitar pérdidas. 29 Otros eran responsables del mobiliario, los utensilios del santuario, y materiales, tales como harina fina, vino, incienso y especias.
30 Otros sacerdotes preparaban las especias y el incienso.
31 Matatías (uno de los levitas, e hijo mayor de Salún, coreíta) tenía a su cargo la tarea de hacer tortillas para el sacrificio de cereales.
32 Algunos de los integrantes del clan de Coat tenían a su cargo la preparación de los panes especiales para los días de reposo.
33-34 Los cantores eran todos levitas prominentes. Vivían en Jerusalén y estaban en el desempeño de su labor a toda hora. Estaban exentos de otras responsabilidades, y la selección de ellos se practicaba tomando en consideración sus genealogías.
Genealogía de Saúl
35-37 Jehiel, padre de Gabaón, vivía en Gabaón. Su esposa fue Macá; tuvo muchos hijos, entre los cuales se contaban los siguientes: Abdón (el primogénito), Zur, Quis, Baal, Ner, Nadab, Guedor, Ajío, Zacarías y Miclot.
38 Miclot fue el padre de Simán. Todos ellos vivían en Jerusalén, junto con sus parientes.
39 Ner fue el padre de Quis; Quis fue el padre de Saúl, y Saúl fue el padre de Jonatán, Malquisúa, Abinadab y Esbaal. 40 Jonatán fue el padre de Meribaal; y Meribaal fue el padre de Micaías. 41 Micaías fue el padre de Pitón, Mélec, Tarea y Acaz. 42 Acaz fue el padre de Jará; Jará fue el padre de Alemet, Azmávet y Zimri. Zimri fue el padre de Mosá, 43 Mosá fue el padre de Biná; Biná fue el padre de Refaías; Refaías fue el padre de Elasá, y Elasá fue el padre de Azel.
44 Azel tuvo seis hijos: Azricán, Bocrú, Ismael, Searías, Abdías y Janán.

2 Los primeros en ocupar nuevamente sus posesiones y ciudades fueron israelitas, sacerdotes, levitas y servidores del Templo.
3 Algunos de los descendientes de Judá, Benjamín, Efraín y Manasés habitaron en Jerusalén.
4 De los judíos: Utay, hijo de Amiud, descendiente en línea directa de Omrí, Imrí, Baní y Fares, hijo de Judá.
5 De los silonitas:
Asaías, el primogénito, con sus hijos.
6 De los zeraítas:
Jeuel y el resto de sus parientes.
En total seiscientas noventa personas.
7 De los benjamitas:

15 Bacbacar, Heres, Galal y Matanías, hijo de Micaías, hijo de Zicrí, hijo de Asaf;
16 Abdías, hijo de Semaías, hijo de Galal, hijo de Jedutún;
Berequías, hijo de Asá, hijo de Elcaná, que habitó en las aldeas de los netofatitas.
17 Los porteros:
Salún, Acub, Talmón y Ajimán y sus parientes; Salún era el jefe. 18 Hasta ahora custodian la puerta del rey, que está al oriente, y han sido porteros de los campamentos levitas.
19 Además, Salún, hijo de Coré, hijo de Ebiasaf, hijo de Corah, y sus parientes coreítas de la misma familia patriarcal estaban encargados de custodiar la entrada de la Tienda, tal como sus antepasados habían custodiado la entrada del campamento del Señor.
20 En el pasado, Finés, hijo de Eleazar, fue el oficial a cargo de ellos, y el Señor estuvo con él.
21 Zacarías, hijo de Meselemías, era el portero de la Tienda de reunión.
22 Los escogidos como porteros fueron un total de doscientos doce. En sus aldeas se encuentran sus registros genealógicos.
David y Samuel, el vidente, asignaron sus funciones. 23 Los porteros y sus hijos estaban encargados de custodiar la entrada de la Tienda que se usaba como Templo del Señor. 24 Había porteros en los cuatro puntos cardinales. 25 Cada siete días, sus parientes que vivían en las aldeas se turnaban para ayudarlos. 26 Los cuatro porteros principales estaban en servicio permanente. Eran levitas y custodiaban las salas y los tesoros del Templo de Dios. 27 Durante la noche, montaban guardia alrededor del Templo de Dios y en la mañana abrían sus puertas.
28 Algunos de ellos estaban encargados de los utensilios que se usaban en el servicio del Templo, y debían contarlos al sacarlos y al guardarlos. 29 Otros estaban a cargo de los utensilios, de todos los vasos sagrados, de la harina refinada, el vino, el aceite, el incienso y los perfumes. 30 Algunos de los sacerdotes preparaban la mezcla de los perfumes. 31 El levita Matatías, primogénito del coreíta Salún, estaba encargado de hacer las tortas para las ofrendas. 32 Algunos de sus parientes coatitas preparaban el pan que se ponía cada sábado en la mesa.
33 También había cantores que eran jefes de familias patriarcales de los levitas, los cuales vivían en las habitaciones del Templo. Estos estaban exentos de cualquier otro servicio, porque de día y de noche tenían que ocuparse de su ministerio.
34 Según sus registros genealógicos, estos eran jefes de las familias patriarcales de los levitas y vivían en Jerusalén.

35 Jehiel, padre de Gabaón, vivía en Gabaón.
Su esposa se llamaba Macá. 36 Sus hijos fueron Abdón, el primogénito; Zur, Quis, Baal, Ner, Nadab, 37 Guedor, Ajío, Zacarías y Miclot, 38 padre de Simeia. Estos también vivían en Jerusalén con sus parientes.
39 Ner fue el padre de Quis, y este fue padre de Saúl, quien a su vez lo fue de Jonatán, Malquisúa, Abinadab y Esbaal.
40 El hijo de Jonatán fue
Meribaal, y este fue padre de Micaías.
41 Los hijos de Micaías fueron:
Pitón, Mélec, Tarea y Acaz.[b]
42 Acaz fue el padre de Jará, y este lo fue de Alemet, Azmávet y Zimri. Zimri fue el padre de Mosá; 43 Mosá fue el padre de Biná, y este lo fue de Refaías. Refaías fue el padre de Elasá, y este lo fue de Azel.
44 Azel tuvo seis hijos, cuyos nombres fueron:

9 So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.
2 Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims.
3 And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh;
4 Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah.
5 And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.
6 And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.
7 And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hasenuah,

20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the Lord was with him.
21 And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
22 All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office.
23 So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the Lord, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.
24 In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.
25 And their brethren, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them.
26 For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.
27 And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.
28 And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.
29 Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.
30 And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.
31 And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.
32 And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.
33 And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.
34 These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.
35 And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife's name was Maachah:
36 And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab.
37 And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren.
39 And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.
40 And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal: and Meribbaal begat Micah.

1 Thus all of Israel was recorded by its generations, for behold, it was inscribed in the book of the kings of Israel.
Judah was carried away into Babylon for its unfaithfulness. 2 The first inhabitants who dwelt in their possessions in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levites, and the temple slaves.[b]
3 Among the Judahites who dwelt in Jerusalem along with the Benjaminites, Ephraimites, and Manassehites were: 4 Uthai, the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez, the son of Judah.
5 From the Shelanites there was Asaiah, the firstborn, and his sons. 6 From the sons of Zerah there was Jeuel and their brethren, six hundred and ninety of them.
7 From the Benjaminites there were Sallu, the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah, 8 Ibneiah, the son of Jeroham, Elah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah, 9 along with their kinsmen, according to their generations. There were nine hundred fifty-six of them. All of these were leaders of their ancestral clans.
10 From the priests there were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, 11 and Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief custodian of the temple. 12 There were also Adaiah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai, the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer. 13 Their brethren, who were the leaders of the ancestral clans, included one thousand, seven hundred and sixty men. They were all capable men who were responsible for ministry in the temple of the Lord.
14 From the Levites there were Shemaiah, the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, who was a Merarite. 15 There were Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah, the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph. 16 There were Obadiah, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah, the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah. They lived in the village of the Netophathites.
17 The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brethren. Shallum was their leader. 18 They have been stationed at the king’s gate on the east up to the present day. They were the gatekeepers of the Levites.
19 Shallum, the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren from the ancestral clan of the Korahites were the gatekeepers at the entrance to the tabernacle just as their ancestors had been the gatekeepers to the entrance of the dwelling place of the Lord. 20 In former days, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, had been their leader, and the Lord had been with him.
21 Zechariah, the son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 22 There were two hundred and twelve of those who had been chosen to be gatekeepers. They are registered by their family history in the villages. David and Samuel the seer had assigned them to their responsibilities. 23 They and their children were responsible for guarding the gates of the temple of the Lord (the shrine of the tabernacle) by turns. 24 The gatekeepers served in the four directions of the east, the west, the north, and the south. 25 Their brethren who lived in the villages would come up to join them for a period of seven days from time to time.
26 There were four Levites who held the office of chief gatekeepers. They were responsible for the chambers and the treasuries of the temple of the Lord. 27 They would spend the night stationed around the temple of God because they were responsible for it, and then they would open it each morning.
28 Some of them were responsible for the vessels used in the liturgy, and they would count them when they were brought in and taken out. 29 Others were assigned responsibility for the furniture and all of the other things used in the sanctuary as well as the flour, wine, oil, incense, and spices. 30 Some of the priests were responsible for mixing the spices in the ointments.
31 There was a certain Levite, Mattithiah, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, who was responsible for the baking of the bread. 32 Some of the Korahites, their brethren, were in charge of preparing the shewbread every Sabbath.
33 Those who were singers, the leaders of their ancestral clans of Levites, would stay in the chambers. They were free from other responsibilities, for they were busy working day and night.
34 These were all leaders of the ancestral clans of the Levites, leaders according to their generations, and they dwelt in Jerusalem.
The History of David[c]
35 Genealogy of Saul. Jeiel, the father of Gibeon, dwelt in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maacah. 36 His firstborn was Abdon, then there were Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They lived near their brethren, their brethren who lived in Jerusalem.
39 Ner was the father of Kish, and Kish was the father of Saul.
Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal.
40 The son of Jonathan was Merib-baal, who was the father of Micah.
41 The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
42 Ahaz was the father of Jarah, and Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri.
Zimri was the father of Moza.
43 Moza was the father of Binea, Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.
44 Azel had six sons, and these are their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. They were the sons of Azel.

- 1 Chronicles 9:1 The genealogies end with a description of the population of Jerusalem at the return from Exile. After the Exile the religious restorers will more than ever regard Jerusalem as the holy city; it will become the symbol of the heavenly city that is awaited at the end of time. Other lists are given in Ezek 1; Neh 7; 11.
- 1 Chronicles 9:2 The reference is certainly to the descendants of slaves or foreigners who had long since been incorporated into Israel and assigned to subordinate cultic functions.
- 1 Chronicles 9:35 The second part of the first Book of Chronicles is devoted entirely to David. The Chronicler takes much of his material from the Books of Samuel, but everything that made David so human and such a vivid personage is passed over in silence; there is nothing here of the lively youth, the friend of Jonathan, the hunted outlaw, the repentant and harshly-tested sinner, the man crushed by family tragedies and the intrigues of his successors. The Books of Samuel portray a heartrending drama; the Chronicler, on the contrary, draws a clear but austere picture. He prefers the serious side and emphasizes fundamental characteristics. Here, then, is, first of all, David as founder of the royal dignity; then David as establisher of the cult in Jerusalem; finally, and above all, David, depository of the divine promises.
