希西家作猶大王(A)

18 以色列王以拉的兒子何細亞在位第三年，猶大王亞哈斯的兒子希西家登基作王。 2 他登基的時候是二十五歲；他在耶路撒冷作王二十九年，他母親名叫亞比，是撒迦利雅的女兒。 3 他行耶和華看為正的事，效法他的祖宗大衛一切所行的。 4 他廢去邱壇，打碎神柱，砍掉亞舍拉；他又打碎摩西所做的銅蛇，因為直到那些日子，以色列人仍然向它焚香，稱它作尼忽士但。 5 他倚靠耶和華以色列的　神，在他以前或以後的猶大列王中，沒有像他的。 6 他忠於耶和華，沒有轉離不跟從他，謹守他的吩咐，就是他曾吩咐摩西的。 7 耶和華和他同在，他所有的征戰都得到成功。他背叛亞述王，不再臣服他。 8 他攻擊非利士人，直到迦薩和它的四境，從哨站以至設防城。

撒瑪利亞被攻陷

9 希西家王在位第四年，就是以色列王以拉的兒子何細亞在位第七年，亞述王撒縵以色上來攻擊撒瑪利亞，把城圍困； 10 過了三年，他們就攻取了撒瑪利亞。希西家在位第六年，就是以色列王何細亞在位第九年，撒瑪利亞被攻取了。 11 亞述王把以色列人擄到亞述去，把他們安置在哈臘、哈博河和歌散河，以及瑪代人的城裡； 12 這是因為他們不聽從耶和華他們　神的話，違背他的約；耶和華的僕人摩西吩咐的一切，他們都不聽從，不遵行。

亞述王攻打猶大(B)

13 希西家王在位第十四年，亞述王西拿基立上來攻擊猶大所有的設防城，佔據了它們。 14 猶大王希西家派人往拉吉去見亞述王說：“我有罪了，請你離我回去吧，你們加於我的處分，我必承當。”於是亞述王罰了猶大王希西家九千公斤銀子和九百公斤金子。 15 希西家就把耶和華殿和王宮寶庫內找到的所有金子都給了他。 16 那時，猶大王希西家把耶和華殿門上和自己包在門柱上的金子，都刮了下來，給了亞述王。

17 亞述王從拉吉派他珥探、拉伯撒利和拉伯沙基率領大軍，往耶路撒冷，到希西家王那裡去。他們就上來，去到耶路撒冷。他們到達以後，就站在上池的引水道旁，在漂布地的大路上。 18 他們呼叫王；希勒家的兒子王宮總管以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和亞薩的兒子史官約亞就出來見他們。

拉伯沙基的恐嚇(C)

19 拉伯沙基對他們說：“你們要對希西家說：‘亞述大王這樣說：你所倚賴的這種防禦算是甚麼呢？ 20 你說有作戰的智謀和能力，只是嘴上空言，現在你倚賴誰才背叛我呢？ 21 你看，你倚賴埃及這壓傷的蘆葦做的手杖，人若是倚靠它，它必刺入他的手，把手刺傷，埃及王法老對所有倚賴他的人正是這樣。 22 如果你們對我說：我們倚靠的是耶和華我們的　神，希西家不是曾把他的邱壇和祭壇廢去，又對猶大人和耶路撒冷人說：你們要在耶路撒冷這祭壇前敬拜嗎？ 23 現在，你可以和我主亞述王打賭，我給你二千匹戰馬，看你能否派出騎兵來騎牠們？ 24 否則，你怎能使我主最小的一位臣僕轉臉逃跑呢？你竟然倚賴埃及供應戰車和戰馬嗎？ 25 現在，我上來攻擊這地方，要毀滅它，不是有耶和華的意思嗎？耶和華曾對我說：上去攻擊那地，把它毀滅。’”

26 希勒家的兒子以利亞敬、舍伯那和約亞對拉伯沙基說：“請用亞蘭語和你的僕人們說話，因為我們聽得懂；不要用猶大語和我們說話，免得傳入在城牆上的人民的耳中。” 27 拉伯沙基對他們說：“我主派我來，只是對你的主和你說這些話嗎？不也是對坐在城牆上，和你們在一起吃自己的糞、喝自己的尿的人民說的嗎？”

勸降的話(D)

28 於是拉伯沙基站著，用猶大語大聲喊著，說：“你們要聽亞述大王的話。 29 王這樣說：‘不要給希西家欺騙了你們，因為他不能從我的手中解救你們； 30 也不要讓希西家欺騙你們去信賴耶和華說：耶和華一定會解救我們，這城必不會交在亞述王的手中。 31 不要聽從希西家，因為亞述王這樣說：你們要與我和好，出來向我投降，各人就可以吃自己的葡萄樹和無花果樹的果子，喝自己水池裡的水。 32 直到我來帶你們到一個像你們國家的地方，那地方有五穀新酒，糧食和葡萄園，橄欖樹和蜂蜜，你們必可以活著，不會死亡。不要聽從希西家，因為他誤導你們說：耶和華必解救我們。 33 列國的神真能解救他們的國土脫離亞述王的手嗎？ 34 哈馬和亞珥拔的神在哪裡呢？西法瓦音、希拿和以瓦的神在哪裡呢？他們可以解救撒瑪利亞脫離我的手嗎？ 35 這些國家所有的神，有哪一個曾解救他自己的國家脫離我的手呢？難道耶和華能解救耶路撒冷脫離我的手嗎？’” 36 眾民都不出聲，一句話也不回答他，因為王吩咐他們：“不要回答他。” 37 當時王宮總管希勒家的兒子以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和亞薩的兒子史官約亞來到希西家那裡，他們的衣服都撕裂了，他們把拉伯沙基的話都告訴了他。

18 以拉的儿子以色列王何细亚执政第三年，犹大王亚哈斯的儿子希西迦登基。 2 他二十五岁登基，在耶路撒冷执政二十九年。他母亲叫亚比雅[a]，是撒迦利雅的女儿。 3 希西迦效法他祖先大卫，做耶和华视为正的事。 4 他拆除丘坛，砸碎神柱，砍倒亚舍拉神像，打碎摩西造的铜蛇，因为当时以色列人仍向铜蛇烧香，称之为尼忽士旦[b]。 5 希西迦信靠以色列的上帝耶和华，在他前后的犹大诸王没有一个可与他相比。 6 他对耶和华忠心不渝，遵守耶和华颁给摩西的诫命。 7 耶和华与他同在，他凡事顺利。他反抗亚述王的统治，不再臣服于他。 8 他击败非利士人，从他们的瞭望塔和坚城，一直打到迦萨及其四境。

9 希西迦执政第四年，即以拉的儿子以色列王何细亚执政第七年，亚述王撒缦以色起兵攻打撒玛利亚城，将城包围。 10 三年之后，就是希西迦执政第六年，以色列王何细亚执政第九年，撒玛利亚失陷。 11 亚述王把以色列人掳到亚述，将他们安置在哈腊、歌散的哈博河一带以及玛代人的城邑里。 12 这都是因为以色列人没有听从他们的上帝耶和华，违背了祂的约，不遵行祂仆人摩西所吩咐的一切。

亚述人攻打耶路撒冷

13 希西迦王执政第十四年，亚述王西拿基立起兵攻取了犹大所有的坚城。 14 希西迦王差遣使者去拉吉见亚述王说：“我知罪了，求你退兵！我愿意满足你的任何要求。”亚述王向希西迦索要十吨银子和一吨金子。 15 希西迦将耶和华殿里和王宫库房里的所有银子都给了他， 16 又刮下他包在耶和华殿门和门柱上的金子，一并送去。 17 但亚述王派他的元帅、都统和将军从拉吉率领大军到耶路撒冷见希西迦。到了耶路撒冷后，他们驻扎在上池的水沟旁、通往漂布场的路上。 18 他们要求见王。希勒迦的儿子宫廷总管以利亚敬、书记舍伯那和亚萨的儿子史官约亚出来见他们。 19 亚述的将军说：“你们去告诉希西迦，伟大的亚述王说，‘你凭什么这样自信呢？ 20 你所谓的战略和军力不过是空话。你究竟倚靠谁，竟敢背叛我？ 21 看啊，你所倚靠的埃及只不过是一根破裂的芦苇，谁倚靠它，谁的手就会被刺伤。倚靠埃及王法老的下场都是这样。’ 22 也许你会说，‘我们倚靠我们的上帝耶和华。’希西迦不是拆除了祂的庙宇和祭坛，又吩咐犹大和耶路撒冷的人要在耶路撒冷的祭坛前敬拜祂吗？ 23 来，跟我主人亚述王打个赌，你若能找到两千骑士，我就给你两千匹马！ 24 你们即使依靠埃及的战车和骑兵，又怎能打败我主人的一个最小的将领呢？ 25 更何况我来攻打、毁灭这地方不正是耶和华的意思吗？耶和华吩咐我攻打、毁灭这地方。”

26 以利亚敬、舍伯那和约亚对亚述的将军说：“求你用亚兰语跟仆人们说话，我们都听得懂。求你不要用希伯来语跟我们说话，免得城墙上的人听见。” 27 亚述的将军却说：“难道我主人派我来只对你们和你们的王说这些话吗？不也是对城墙上的人说吗？他们和你们一样都要吃自己的粪，喝自己的尿。” 28 于是，他站着用希伯来语大喊：“你们要听伟大的亚述王的话。 29 王说，‘你们不要被希西迦欺骗，他不能从我手中救你们。 30 不要听希西迦的话去倚靠耶和华，说什么耶和华必拯救你们，这城必不会落在亚述王手中。’ 31 不要听希西迦的话。亚述王说，‘你们要跟我讲和，出来归顺我，你们就可以吃自己葡萄树和无花果树的果子，喝自己井里的水。 32 以后我会来领你们到一个地方，那里和这里一样有五谷和新酒、饼和葡萄园。你们就可以存活，不至于死。希西迦说耶和华会拯救你们，不要听信他的话。 33 有哪个国家的神明曾经从亚述王手中救他的国家吗？ 34 哈马、亚珥拔的神明在哪里呢？西法瓦音、希拿和以瓦的神明又在哪里呢？他们从我手中救出撒玛利亚了吗？ 35 这些国家的神明哪个从我手中救了自己的国家呢？难道耶和华能从我手中救耶路撒冷吗？’” 36 民众默不作声，因为希西迦曾吩咐他们不要答话。 37 总管以利亚敬、书记舍伯那和史官约亚都撕裂衣服，去向希西迦禀告亚述的将军说的话。

Hezekiah Reigns over Judah

18 Now it happened (A)in the third year of Hoshea, the son of Elah king of Israel, that (B)Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah became king. 2 He was (C)twenty-five years old when he became king; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Abi, the daughter of Zechariah. 3 (D)And he did what was right in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that David his father had done. 4 (E)He took away the high places and shattered the sacred pillars and cut down the [a]Asherah. And he broke in pieces (F)the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the sons of Israel were burning incense to it; and it was called [b]Nehushtan. 5 (G)He trusted in Yahweh, the God of Israel; (H)so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him. 6 So he (I)clung to Yahweh; he did not turn away from following Him, but kept His commandments, which Yahweh had commanded Moses.

Hezekiah Prospers

7 (J)And Yahweh was with him; wherever he went he prospered. And (K)he rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him. 8 (L)He struck the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from (M)watchtower to fortified city.

9 Now in the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, (N)Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it. 10 And at the end of three years they captured it; in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was (O)the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was captured. 11 Then the king of Assyria took Israel away into exile to Assyria, and put them in (P)Halah and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, 12 because they (Q)did not listen to the voice of Yahweh their God, but trespassed against His covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded; they would neither listen nor do it.

Sennacherib Comes Up Against Judah

13 (R)Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and seized them. 14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “(S)I have done wrong. Turn away from me; whatever penalty you give to me I will bear.” So the king of Assyria set a penalty on Hezekiah king of Judah [c]three hundred talents of silver and [d]thirty talents of gold. 15 (T)Thus Hezekiah gave him all the silver which was found in the house of Yahweh and in the treasuries of the king’s house. 16 At that time Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of Yahweh and from the doorposts, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 Then the king of Assyria sent (U)Tartan and Rab-saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a heavy military force to Jerusalem. So they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they went up, they came and stood by the (V)conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway of the [e]fuller’s field. 18 Then they called to the king, and (W)Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and (X)Shebnah the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came out to them.

19 Then Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, “(Y)What is this trust that you have? 20 You say (but they are [f]only empty words), ‘I have counsel and might for the war.’ Now on whom do you trust, (Z)that you have rebelled against me? 21 Now behold, you [g](AA)trust in the staff of this crushed reed, even on Egypt; on which if a man leans, it will go into his [h]hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 22 But if you say to me, ‘We trust in Yahweh our God,’ is it not He whose high places and (AB)whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’? 23 So now, [i]come, make a bargain with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to give riders for them. 24 How then can you [j]turn away one [k]official of the least of my master’s servants, and trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? 25 So now, have I come up [l]without the approval of Yahweh against this place to make it a ruin? Yahweh said to me, ‘Go up against this land and make it a ruin.’”’”

26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “Speak now to your servants in Aramaic, for we [m]understand it; and do not speak with us in [n](AC)Judean in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.” 27 But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me only to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, doomed to eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”

28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in Judean, [o]saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. 29 Thus says the king, ‘(AD)Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you from [p]his hand; 30 and do not let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh will surely deliver us, and this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.” 31 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, “[q]Make your peace with me and come out to me, and eat (AE)each of his vine and each of his fig tree and drink each of the waters of his own cistern, 32 until I come and take you away (AF)to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil and honey, that you may live and not die.” But do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.” 33 (AG)Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria? 34 (AH)Where are the gods of Hamath and (AI)Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and [r](AJ)Ivvah? When have they delivered Samaria from my hand? 35 Who among all the gods of the lands [s]have delivered their land from my hand, (AK)that Yahweh would deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’”

36 But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king’s commandment was, “Do not answer him.” 37 Then (AL)Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah (AM)with their clothes torn and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
