Exodus 17
Young's Literal Translation
17 And all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;
2 and the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'
3 and the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why [is] this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'
4 And Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'
5 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:
6 Lo, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,
7 and he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'
8 And Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,
9 and Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'
10 And Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up [to] the top of the height;
11 and it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.
12 And the hands of Moses [are] heavy, and they take a stone, and set [it] under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;
13 and Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.
14 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set [it] in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'
15 and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,
16 and saith, `Because a hand [is] on the throne of Jah, war [is] to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'

3 Pero el pueblo tenía mucha sed y quería tomar agua, por eso siguieron quejándose en contra de Moisés. Le preguntaron:
—¿Por qué nos sacaste de Egipto para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y al ganado?
4 Entonces Moisés rogó al SEÑOR y le dijo:
—¿Qué voy a hacer con este pueblo? Un poco más y me matan a pedradas.
5 El SEÑOR le dijo a Moisés:
—Pasa delante del pueblo y hazte acompañar de algunos ancianos líderes de Israel. Lleva en tu mano el bastón que usaste para golpear el Nilo y ve. 6 Yo me voy a colocar frente a ti, sobre la roca que está en Horeb. Cuando golpees la roca, saldrá agua de ella para que beba el pueblo.
Entonces Moisés hizo exactamente eso, frente a los ancianos. 7 Llamó a ese sitio Masá[a] y Meribá[b] porque los israelitas se quejaron y pusieron a prueba al SEÑOR preguntando: «¿Está o no está el SEÑOR con nosotros?»

8 Los amalecitas vinieron y lucharon contra Israel en Refidín. 9 Entonces Moisés le dijo a Josué:
—Elige algunos de nuestros hombres y vayan a pelear contra Amalec. Yo me voy a parar mañana en la cima de la colina sosteniendo el bastón de Dios en mi mano.
10 Josué obedeció a Moisés y se fue a pelear contra Amalec. Mientras tanto, Moisés, Aarón y Jur subieron a la cima de la colina. 11 Cuando Moisés levantaba sus brazos, Israel ganaba la batalla; pero cuando bajaba sus brazos, Amalec comenzaba a ganar.
12 Cuando se le cansaron los brazos a Moisés, le colocaron una roca debajo. Él se sentó en la roca mientras Aarón y Jur, uno a cada lado, le sostenían los brazos. De esta manera sus brazos se mantuvieron arriba hasta que anocheció. 13 Así, a filo de espada, Josué derrotó a Amalec y a su ejército.

—Escribe este mensaje en un documento para que se le grabe en la mente a Josué: “Quedará sólo vaga memoria de los amalecitas. Los voy a destruir por completo”. Así el pueblo nunca olvidará lo que he dicho.
15 Luego Moisés construyó un altar y lo llamó «El SEÑOR es mi estandarte». 16 Y dijo: «Tomemos el estandarte del SEÑOR, él siempre va a estar en guerra contra el pueblo de Amalec».

Water from the Rock(A)
17 Then (B)all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of (C)Sin, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to (D)drink. 2 (E)Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.”
So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you (F)tempt the Lord?”
3 And the people thirsted there for water, and the people (G)complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our (H)livestock with thirst?”
4 So Moses (I)cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to (J)stone[a] me!”
5 And the Lord said to Moses, (K)“Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which (L)you struck the river, and go. 6 (M)Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.”
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 So he called the name of the place (N)Massah[b] and [c]Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they [d]tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
Victory over the Amalekites(O)
8 (P)Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with (Q)the rod of God in my hand.” 10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And so it was, when Moses (R)held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became [e]heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, (S)“Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that (T)I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, [f]The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; 16 for he said, “Because [g]the Lord has (U)sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”
