保罗受审

24 过了五天,大祭司亚拿尼亚同几个长老,和一个律师帖土罗来了,他们向总督控告保罗。 保罗传来了之后,帖土罗就控诉他说:“腓力斯大人,因着你的缘故,我们大大地享受着太平;因着你的远见,本国大事改革; 我们随时随地感激不尽。 现在我不想多烦扰你,只求你宽容一下,听我们讲几句话。 我们看这个人就像瘟疫一样,是煽动普天下犹太人生乱的人,又是拿撒勒派的首领。 他还意图污秽圣殿,我们就把他捉住。(有些抄本在此有以下一段:“我们想按照我们的律法审问他。7可是千夫长吕西亚来了,用武力把他从我们手中抢走,8还吩咐原告到你这里来。”) 你亲自审问之后,就必清楚知道我们告他的一切事了。” 犹太人也都跟他一同控告保罗,证实事情确是这样。

保罗在腓力斯面前申辩

10 总督向保罗示意,叫他说话,他就说:“我知道你在本国审案多年,所以乐意为自己申辩。 11 你清楚知道,自从我上耶路撒冷去礼拜,到现在还没有十二天; 12 无论在殿里、会堂中或城里,他们都没有看见我跟人辩论,或煽动群众作乱, 13 也不能向你证明他们现在控告我的事。 14 但有一件事我要向你承认,他们所称为异端的这道,我正是根据这道来敬拜我祖先的 神的。一切律法和先知所记的,我都相信。 15 我靠着 神所存的盼望,也是他们自己所期待的,就是义人和不义的人都要复活; 16 因此,我常常勉励自己,对 神对人要常存无亏的良心。 17 过了几年我带着捐款回来赒济本国,同时也带了祭物, 18 他们看见我在殿里的时候,我已经行完了洁净礼,并没有和一大群人在一起,也没有生乱, 19 只有几个从亚西亚来的犹太人而已。他们若有事要控告我,就应该到你面前来控告。 20 要不然,当我站在公议会中受审的时候,这些人若发现我有甚么罪行,早就亲自说出来了。 21 如果有的话,就是我站在他们中间所喊的:‘我今天在你们面前受审,是为了死人复活的事’那一句话。”

腓力斯听道后害怕起来

24 过了几天,腓力斯和他的犹太妻子土西拉一同来到,他又传见保罗,听他谈论在耶稣基督里的信仰。 25 保罗讲到公义、自制和将来的审判的时候,腓力斯就害怕起来,说:“你先走吧,等我有空的时候再叫你来。” 26 同时他也希望保罗送钱给他,所以又多次传见他,和他谈话。

27 过了两年,波求.非斯都接了腓力斯的任;腓力斯为要讨好犹太人,就把保罗留在监里。

Paul Presents His Case to Felix

24 Five days later, the high priest Ananias arrived with certain elders and Tertullus, an attorney, and they summarized their case against Paul before the governor. When Paul[a] had been summoned, Tertullus opened the prosecution by saying:

“Your Excellency Felix, since we are enjoying lasting peace because of you, and since reforms for this nation are being brought about through your foresight, we always and everywhere acknowledge it with profound gratitude. But so as not to detain you any further, I beg you to hear us briefly with your customary graciousness. For we have found this man a perfect pest and an agitator among all Jews throughout the world. He is a ringleader in the sect of the Nazarenes[b] and even tried to profane the Temple, but we arrested him.[c] By examining him for yourself, you will be able to find out from him everything of which we accuse him.”

The Jewish leaders[d] supported his accusations by asserting that these things were true. 10 When the governor motioned for Paul to speak, he replied:

“Since I know that you have been a judge over this nation for many years, I am pleased to present my defense. 11 You can verify for yourself that I went up to worship in Jerusalem no more than twelve days ago. 12 They never found me debating with anyone in the Temple or stirring up a crowd in the synagogues or throughout the city, 13 and they cannot prove to you the charges they are now bringing against me. 14 However, I admit to you that in accordance with the Way, which they call a heresy,[e] I worship the God of our ancestors and believe in everything written in the Law and the Prophets. 15 I have the same hope in God that they themselves cherish—that there is to be a resurrection of the righteous and the wicked. 16 Therefore, I always do my best to have a clear conscience before God and people. 17 After many years, I have come back to my people to bring gifts for the poor and to offer sacrifices. 18 They found me in the Temple doing these things just as I had completed the purification ceremony. No crowd or noisy mob was present. 19 But some Jews from Asia were there, and they should be here before you to accuse me if they have anything against me. 20 Otherwise, these men themselves should tell what wrong they found when I stood before the Council[f] 21 unless it is for the one thing I shouted as I stood among them: ‘It is for the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”

22 Felix was rather well informed about the Way, and so he adjourned the trial with the comment, “When Tribune Lysias arrives, I’ll decide your case.” 23 He ordered the centurion to guard Paul[g] but to let him have some freedom and not to keep any of his friends from caring for his needs.

24 Some days later, Felix arrived with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him talk about faith in Jesus[h] the Messiah.[i] 25 As Paul[j] talked about righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became afraid and said, “For the present you may go. When I get a chance, I will send for you again.” 26 At the same time he was hoping to receive a bribe from Paul, and so he would send for him frequently to talk with him.

27 After two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Since Felix wanted to do the Jews a favor, he left Paul in prison.

πολλης ειρηνης τυγχανοντες δια σου και κατορθωματων γινομενων τω εθνει τουτω δια της σης προνοιας παντη τε και πανταχου αποδεχομεθα κρατιστε φηλιξ μετα πασης ευχαριστιας

ινα δε μη επι πλειον σε εγκοπτω παρακαλω ακουσαι σε ημων συντομως τη ση επιεικεια

ευροντες γαρ τον ανδρα τουτον λοιμον και κινουντα στασιν πασιν τοις ιουδαιοις τοις κατα την οικουμενην πρωτοστατην τε της των ναζωραιων αιρεσεως

ος και το ιερον επειρασεν βεβηλωσαι ον και εκρατησαμεν και κατα τον ημετερον νομον ηθελησαμεν κρινειν

παρελθων δε λυσιας ο χιλιαρχος μετα πολλης βιας εκ των χειρων ημων απηγαγεν

κελευσας τους κατηγορους αυτου ερχεσθαι επι σε παρ ου δυνηση αυτος ανακρινας περι παντων τουτων επιγνωναι ων ημεις κατηγορουμεν αυτου

συνεθεντο δε και οι ιουδαιοι φασκοντες ταυτα ουτως εχειν

10 απεκριθη δε ο παυλος νευσαντος αυτω του ηγεμονος λεγειν εκ πολλων ετων οντα σε κριτην τω εθνει τουτω επισταμενος ευθυμοτερον τα περι εμαυτου απολογουμαι

11 δυναμενου σου γνωναι οτι ου πλειους εισιν μοι ημεραι η δεκαδυο αφ ης ανεβην προσκυνησων εν ιερουσαλημ

12 και ουτε εν τω ιερω ευρον με προς τινα διαλεγομενον η επισυστασιν ποιουντα οχλου ουτε εν ταις συναγωγαις ουτε κατα την πολιν

13 ουτε παραστησαι δυνανται περι ων νυν κατηγορουσιν μου

14 ομολογω δε τουτο σοι οτι κατα την οδον ην λεγουσιν αιρεσιν ουτως λατρευω τω πατρωω θεω πιστευων πασιν τοις κατα τον νομον και τοις προφηταις γεγραμμενοις

15 ελπιδα εχων εις τον θεον ην και αυτοι ουτοι προσδεχονται αναστασιν μελλειν εσεσθαι νεκρων δικαιων τε και αδικων

16 εν τουτω δε αυτος ασκω απροσκοπον συνειδησιν εχειν προς τον θεον και τους ανθρωπους διαπαντος

17 δι ετων δε πλειονων παρεγενομην ελεημοσυνας ποιησων εις το εθνος μου και προσφορας

18 εν οις ευρον με ηγνισμενον εν τω ιερω ου μετα οχλου ουδε μετα θορυβου τινες απο της ασιας ιουδαιοι

19 ους εδει επι σου παρειναι και κατηγορειν ει τι εχοιεν προς με

20 η αυτοι ουτοι ειπατωσαν ει τι ευρον εν εμοι αδικημα σταντος μου επι του συνεδριου

21 η περι μιας ταυτης φωνης ης εκραξα εστως εν αυτοις οτι περι αναστασεως νεκρων εγω κρινομαι σημερον υφ υμων

22 ακουσας δε ταυτα ο φηλιξ ανεβαλετο αυτους ακριβεστερον ειδως τα περι της οδου ειπων οταν λυσιας ο χιλιαρχος καταβη διαγνωσομαι τα καθ υμας

23 διαταξαμενος τε τω εκατονταρχη τηρεισθαι τον παυλον εχειν τε ανεσιν και μηδενα κωλυειν των ιδιων αυτου υπηρετειν η προσερχεσθαι αυτω

24 μετα δε ημερας τινας παραγενομενος ο φηλιξ συν δρουσιλλη τη γυναικι αυτου ουση ιουδαια μετεπεμψατο τον παυλον και ηκουσεν αυτου περι της εις χριστον πιστεως

25 διαλεγομενου δε αυτου περι δικαιοσυνης και εγκρατειας και του κριματος του μελλοντος εσεσθαι εμφοβος γενομενος ο φηλιξ απεκριθη το νυν εχον πορευου καιρον δε μεταλαβων μετακαλεσομαι σε

26 αμα δε και ελπιζων οτι χρηματα δοθησεται αυτω υπο του παυλου οπως λυση αυτον διο και πυκνοτερον αυτον μεταπεμπομενος ωμιλει αυτω

27 διετιας δε πληρωθεισης ελαβεν διαδοχον ο φηλιξ πορκιον φηστον θελων τε χαριτας καταθεσθαι τοις ιουδαιοις ο φηλιξ κατελιπεν τον παυλον δεδεμενον

Paul’s Trial Before Felix

24 Five days later the high priest Ananias(A) went down to Caesarea with some of the elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they brought their charges(B) against Paul before the governor.(C) When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case before Felix: “We have enjoyed a long period of peace under you, and your foresight has brought about reforms in this nation. Everywhere and in every way, most excellent(D) Felix, we acknowledge this with profound gratitude. But in order not to weary you further, I would request that you be kind enough to hear us briefly.

“We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots(E) among the Jews(F) all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene(G) sect(H) and even tried to desecrate the temple;(I) so we seized him. [7] [a] By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges we are bringing against him.”

The other Jews joined in the accusation,(J) asserting that these things were true.

10 When the governor(K) motioned for him to speak, Paul replied: “I know that for a number of years you have been a judge over this nation; so I gladly make my defense. 11 You can easily verify that no more than twelve days(L) ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship. 12 My accusers did not find me arguing with anyone at the temple,(M) or stirring up a crowd(N) in the synagogues or anywhere else in the city. 13 And they cannot prove to you the charges they are now making against me.(O) 14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors(P) as a follower of the Way,(Q) which they call a sect.(R) I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets,(S) 15 and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection(T) of both the righteous and the wicked.(U) 16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear(V) before God and man.

17 “After an absence of several years, I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for the poor(W) and to present offerings. 18 I was ceremonially clean(X) when they found me in the temple courts doing this. There was no crowd with me, nor was I involved in any disturbance.(Y) 19 But there are some Jews from the province of Asia,(Z) who ought to be here before you and bring charges if they have anything against me.(AA) 20 Or these who are here should state what crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin— 21 unless it was this one thing I shouted as I stood in their presence: ‘It is concerning the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial before you today.’”(AB)

22 Then Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way,(AC) adjourned the proceedings. “When Lysias the commander comes,” he said, “I will decide your case.” 23 He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard(AD) but to give him some freedom(AE) and permit his friends to take care of his needs.(AF)

24 Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.(AG) 25 As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control(AH) and the judgment(AI) to come, Felix was afraid(AJ) and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.” 26 At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.

27 When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus,(AK) but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews,(AL) he left Paul in prison.(AM)
